Hey guy's... so, I pick up my Nexus that is running stock Android without pushing any buttons and my device comes on and then I'm thinking its a bug? I remind you I'm on stock no mods/ custom kernel BTW Faux123 FTW! Or anything, just stock 4.1.2 later on today the screen is off and I picked up my device, before I can push a button the screen just comes right on without me pushing anything... then, the geek in me said, this is not a bug, its a new feature in the 4.1.2 OTA so I picked up my 7 without pushing any buttons and bang screen on and then I just laid it down and bang screen off. Okay, I'm thinking that this is a new feature for notifications... what do you think?

This seems very likely. Can you imagine the battery drain this would cause if your phone was in your pocket and turned on every now and then because of being moved?
If it really is a new feature, then I damn as hell hope I can turn it off.
Its not a new feature.... there is a magnet sensor of some sort in the N7 and when removed from said magnet source the screen comes on.

False! I'm not using a case, but I do know that with a magic case screen will come on? My nexus has no case on it just me picking up the device turns on screen! Not magnet, but more so accelerometer:what:

is it possible to turn it off? i've got the same fear that this 'feature' could get outta control
I'm all for new features that sounds great! I don't think battery drain is really a big problem. That little thing you call a charger should sort that out. maybe you could just calibrate your gyro sensor to a crazy angle!

Hmm, most likely happening due to an app like 'Auto Screen On'. Even a faulty device would still need the functionality coded into it the stock ROM, which has never been mentioned afaik.
A second possibility is that the OP is Magneto and is interfacing with the Nexus's magnetic sensor
I got it to do it once and I can't reproduce it anymore.

I've taken the time to make this thread to hear about any complaints people may have about the Nexus 7. Keep in mind, this thread is NOT for PHYSICAL defects or imperfections. I'm talking about complaints about the performance, any lag at all, crashes or freezes, horrible battery life, performance with major 3D games, or any bugs you may find, post them here ! :good: Complain all you want about it, let's discuss it. Is the Nexus 7 what you were expecting ? Is it BETTER than you expected ? Is it good for the price ? Are other tablets better in any way ? Say it !
Is this really necessary?
I thought it would be interesting to know. Thank you for replying !

Check it out in the pictures and let me know what you think; I don't have any frame of reference for the quality of these and I don't want to have to be out of a device for a long period of time for an issue that doesn't really bother me.

What version works with the nexus 7?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
version I am using is 11.1.115.11 works fine in Dolphin
Today Asus's Facebook page announced the exciting news that they just released a firmware upgrade to the popular Nexus 7 tablet, which they hope will fix common issues like "screen-lift" and dead pixels.
"要解决这个问题,我们感到非常兴奋," the Facebook page said. "我们发现的代码中的错误导致屏幕解除。"
The update will also fix other issues, including blown-out speakers, screen-streaks, and missing screws.
According to Asus, the screen-lift issue was due to a missing semicolon in the code. "这是一个非常尴尬的错误。," the Facebook page reads.
Hopefully this will appease the growing Nexus 7 fanbase, which has been upset by the many issues they have faced.
The multi-billion-dollar company also has another firmware update in the works. Sources predict that it will add more RAM to the device to compete with other high-end tablets.
Check back later for more information.
EDIT: we have confirmation coming in from XDA users.
"This is a super clever fix," slack04 explained. "It's just what we've been waiting for. Now will you give me a moment? I've lost my sense of humor and can't seem to find it."
"No thanks," said user jcjr81. "I'll pass on this update until others prove it works. What if it causes the screen to shrink, or something?"
Some are afraid Asus's fix could make the problem worse, as seen in the infamous Dell Inspiron case of 2008, in which a firmware update to stop batteries from exploding was successful, apart from the fact that the batteries began imploding instead.

Just because an update might be rolling out for one particular device it doesn't necessarily mean all the Nexus hardware will be getting said update, so keep that in mind.
I haven't seen any mention of 4.2.2 recently, guess it'll happen soon enough (unless some people are trolling Reddit which is pretty common these days as the site gets more popular every minute).

Yes. You have Revision 11, I'd guess.
Those nubs were added after Revision 11. So the only change after Rev11 is to have nubs or not to have nubs. I personally don't have them and my phone is still awesome

There are probably bins full of a mixture of back covers with or without the nubs, so until all the old stock has been exhausted there are probably a mixture coming of the production line. The glass back will be the same, so you could get a back without nubs but with the smaller camera hole or vice versa.
Unless a change is for a safety issue or is required to fix a fault, manufacturers will not throw away all previously good components. With something like the back covers and glass backs, I doubt they are strictly rotated so that older stock is always used first, so you get new stock put at the front, used up and then it is back to older stock for while until newer arrives.

Phil
