[Q] Battery jumping - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i flashed Apocalypse ROM after i heard it was better in terms of battery life for custom roms and from my experience it is even with my 3g on constantly.
however, my battery level jumps from 100 to around 60 very fast, around 20 mins? before it stabilises and decharges at steady rates even if i charge it fully over night
battery calibration did not help
help anyone?

ok, i had the same thing on stock rom and on apocalypse AND on both cm10 and cm9, pretty much with every ROM i tried :/
i've tried calibrating/delating battery stats and nothing helps.

Try with the firekernel 22.07.2012 version.
also you can install better batery stats: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
to see what's eating your battery,
and you did the proper wipes after install the room?
what governor are you using? min and max freq?

i mean the proper wipes after install the rom, try this:
wipe data,
format sistem and cache,
-install the latest apocallipse and the 22.07 firekernel non official and non oc version.
don't wipe your battery stats, after install set up your lenguage, etc
and turn off your phone, charge off until 100%.
use it a few hours, and tell me how's your battery life,

1. Was there any process in the background that consumed battery?
2. Charge it to full, and see if u can repeat it again.
3. 5.2 version, I think, has the regular gallery 3d. Pls install the updated version using 'SGS Tools'.
I've used all versions of this ROM since 2.5 and am on 5.3 now. Never experienced this.
well, is there ANY possible way to conserve battery life, cause battery life RUNS fasttt!
D:
i heard u have to flash some kernel.. ?

Try the ROM in my signature. Even with the bundled kernel, its pretty slick and conservative on battery. And if u want to squeeze a little more, u can try replacing the kernel with the one in my signature.

CPU frequency

I have installed SETCPU and realized the max CPU frequency is only 1000Mhz.
But I thought the Galaxy Note has got 1.4Ghz. Have I missed something or I have to do something to max the speed?
Thank you

Might be your rom limitation.
Provide your rom and kernel details !!
I am using kernel LA4 (rooted stock rom)
to get full 1.4 ghz power and to overclock your device to 1.7 ghz.. u have to use abyss note kernel .. try flashing the kernel.. and ofcourse a good rom..

You realized wrong. Galaxy Note has 1.4ghz definitely. I think you have seen the bold numbers which is shown above the cpu speed slider. That shows the current statistics of the processor. You should see max 1400mhz and 200MHz min in the slider. That is the speed of the cpu.
You can flash latest Abyssnote kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
the sliding bar is showing max 1000 only.
If I flash the abyssnote, it is going to wipe the whole phone??
Thanks

No it wont. After flashing the kernel just wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot after that. All your data will be safe.
Cheers!!

thanks, what's the difference betwen:
CW Touch Custom Logo
CW Touch Original Logo
RedPill Touch Custom Logo
RedPill Touch Original Logo
And do it do the wipe cache and dalvik cache under CWM?
Thanks

CW and Redpill are the two kinds of recovery. Works the same only the menu items placement and color coding is different.
Original logo is that you will get the Samsung stock logo while booting up. Custom means you will get the custom made logo of the developer while you boot.
You can go with the Redpill version. It has got the menu quite streamlined.
And you wipe the caches and dalvik in the recovery itself. In CW recovery it will be under Wipe cache partition and Dalvik will be under Advance options.
In Redpill recovery you will find the option of wiping caches under the Wipe Menu.
Hope this helps!!

it's on 1700 now, and I have read someone mentioned not to set the min too low, what's do you recommend?
Ouch!
Well the kernel would have done the job for you. Not sure why exactly it is showing as 1000 mHz still is it because stock rom...i dont think so. Will have to research it a bit. Will surely get back or see some other member posting something about it.
Just a thought. Adding m screenshot of setcpu. I am on custom rom. ICS Stunner 5.0 and i surely have it max to 1400mHz
thanks for the info.
I am on 1704 now. But what is your recommendation for the min freq? Some posts mentioned the phone will not go to sleep or some function will not work if the freq is too low

And keep the max as 1400. Keeping it 1700 is not worth apart from you want some awesome quadrant scores. It will just eat out your battery amazingly fast. Even at 1400 the phone is fast enough for anything and everything you throw at it !
Cheers! Enjoy your Note!
Hit thanks if it helped!
I personally never found overclocking these devices with fast, very fast processors like SGN worth it. They are insanely fast, the only thing I can achieve with overclocking is better benchmark scores and worse battery life.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
I can feel the speed has gone faster.
Usually when I press phone, I need to wait for about a second for the number pad to pop up. But since overclocked, it comes up straight away
Well that's good. But also keep an eye on how fast it drains ur battery!
BOOMED from my BOMBASTIC NOTE

Idle usage does not count - your phone does not run in top gear when its idle. Its deep sleep saving battery.

Over how long?
I would also recommend: 200MHz min, 1400 Max (as others have said yes it makes for great Quadrant and Antutu benchmark scores but chews battery and adds heat!) If you get a ROM that works well with your phone then the lag will be minimal.
FYI - I used to get 1% power loss overnight (7 hours) on some ROMs. I am still getting 3% on current rom and happy with that because I also get very good responsiveness. HTH.

Heavy Battery draining Problem

guys i didnt used any other jb rom than hellybean
I was on v4 and it was perfect the battery life was awesome and thein I updated to nightly 13/08 and then first I experienced random reboots after every 2-3 minutes of cellphone going to sleep
I did full wipe and installed the rom but still the same problem and the battery was draining very fastly (2-3 % drops in every 5-10 minutes)
Went back to original GB and then again Installed CM 10 alpha and then full wipe and then hellybean but still random reboots and battery draining
went back to GB again and then installed AOKP and then full wipe and then hellybean 17/08 This time there were no random reboots eexcept when I play 720p videos BUt the BATTERY DRAIN IS STILL same 100 % finishes in 3-4 hours (i m not lying)
Any solution
Sorry for such a long topic and my bad english

Have you tried playing with the cpu governors ? But considering the early state of jelly bean development, you should be patient, I think none of the rom are really rady for daily use.

well..I have to say that I had the same problem..
1-st download from market GetRil to see if you have baseband compatibility it may be an issue there. If so fix it, is really easy.
If problem is not solved. I guarantee that changing kernel will do the job. I recommend siyah.
Follow these steps ;
1- install busybox data on your device !
2- go to CWM and wipe cauch ,delvik and battery .
3- reboot your device .
4- enjoy ^=^

BusyBox is a collection of common UNIX programs and utilities. It's required for many root apps and functions. Basically, everybody should have the latest BusyBox installed if they can.

I haven't kept up with the cappy's dev but NeatKernel seems popular. Check its features and see if it fits your needs (that goes for ROM as well).
Maybe flashing twice does the trick

No I didn't care for cm10. If I didn't see any improvement with the latest milestone I was going to go back to the gingerbread kernel and cm7. I would expect there to be more battery consumption with KitKat then gingerbread due to the mere work load on the processor. But its running more conservative than my dual core phone with ICS ever did even with this amoled screen.
The second flash of cm11 fixed my issues. From CWM recovery I first wiped the cash, installed the cm11 zip file on the SD, then wiped dalvik cache. After up and running I did remove some Google Apps that suck battery and bandwidth like Chrome and Google Play sound recorder (which seems to be running all the time searching for music or something).

problem with battery drain on cm11 official nightly

hi xda users and devs
i have problem with battery on cm11 officail nightly
the phone charges normally from 0 to 100 on 2,5 hours with the on box charger

this problem is not on stock 4.4.4 only on cm11 official
i have tried pimped kernel works fine with battery but no video is working facebook nor youtube
great devs i got random reboot and locks
only with cm11 the problem exsists
is there any other kernel i can use or a fix for that battery problem ??
or that noraml the battery drain ??
thanks in advance

for this drop, try to calibrate your battery and try a clean install maybe as well.
But battery life in cyanogenmod is really bad. even with no drops, you get about 3 hours screen one time while on stock rom 5 hours...

hm... i used this kernel all the time on cm11: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/orig-development/cm-x-honami-v1-t2951201 it has dt2w implemented, thats a cool feature also, had no battery drain but battery life for me was not as good as stock sony, no matter which kernel....
for me the best battery life had the FXP builds cause of their kernel... maybe try that or just flash the kernel from the fxp builds
or maybe try cm12 nightlies, they are almost usable:9 with calling camera and so on, just have a look at my thread for cm12: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/general/rom-official-cyanogenmod-12-nightlies-t3007118
i will try the kernel you suggest now ( [CM] X-Honami v1 ) on the latest cm11 build 20150111
i hope it will work fine with no random reboots or video playback problems
also tested fxp kernel from last build but the same drain too ( i think it is the same as cm kernel )
i tested cm12 already nightly official but slow charging problem (5 hours from 0 to 100 without touching the phone ) and no xposed also system ui restart after boot
also i want to ask you about your settings on fauxsound app to fix the low mic problem
thanks again for your fast reply

I got a C6903.
My installation method almost as described in the wiki
Get CM11 M12 from their website
Unlock bootloader
Flash kernel (including recovery)
Full wipe (additionally i freshly formatted /data and /system including my external sdcard)
Installed ROM
I might not be the ideal reference though, since I run without gapps. No idea how much battery they eat.
Maybe try betterbatterystats (also for free here)
I do have a problem where it tells me the AndroidOS is using a lot of CPU time, but that is just a statistics error, it does not actually drain battery. (weird)
Having almost 4h SOT when using it for 2 days, with listening to music a lot. It was the same for me with the stock rom.
