Literally spent all day trying to root my CDMA Hero. Nothing works. I cannot use sync because it disconnects with the debugging and does not allow me to install a previous RUU. So I decided to use an app on the store (one click rooters like z4) it seemed like it worked, got SuperUser, said that my XC Chip was still on...soo I guess Im not rooted. Didn't notice that till I tried to install Cyanogenmod 7 2.3.2 on my device, which sent it back to my saved place (forgot what its called lol). Have no Idea where to go, anyone have a solution to the sync, seems like it would be the easiest way to do it. I have read the wikis, searched, done all I could do. Now I come to you, Help pleaseeee.

well i personally have had the same issues with one click roots,
Id HIGHLY suggest look at the Cyanogenmod wiki
to root and before rooting setting up ABD through the SDK

The XC, you are referring to is actually for Engineering bootloader S-ON or S-OFF. This has no effect on rooting your phone. Everyone here had S-ON until sometime late last year.
What OS are you running? Windows, Mac, Linux
32bit or 64 bit?
Did you flash a recovery?
Were you able to boot into recovery? (Power off phone, while holding home button, press the power button)
What did you get?
Did you try installing titanium backup to see if you were root?
Download busybox from the market and then open it up and install 1.18.
Try TB again.
Or try installing ROM manager and flash clockwork mod from the app.
Without more info it is really hard to help.

When I press home and power to power on I get
"Clearstorage" "Yes" "no"
thats all...
I installed wireless tether for root, when I went to install Cyano it deleted all my apps besides superuser and wont let me download any of them anymore...
You need anymore info?

Yes I read this, this is actually what I used. Problem is that I cannot use HTC Sync. It never lets me update my RUU for some odd reason...
Update lol. Seems like I am still rooted, I can download and use Wifi Tethering for Root Users. And when in Astro file manager I have a file called \root I believe. question is where do I go from now!
Well it depends on what you want to do with your phone. If its running fine then leave it and just boot into recovery and make a backup incase you need it in the future. To do this "make a backup "
Power off. Then hold down volume down and press power. After the white screen appears press home and wait until your recovery appears. Then select backup and restore. From there you should be able to figure it out. If not then just post and you'll receive advice from other members or my self. If you were looking to further mod your phone you could load one of many custom roms provided by the great developers here, increase internal memory to add more storage, load a different kernel to overclock or change the look of your phone
by flashing a custom theme. Its up to you how far you want to take your phone. Well hope this helps.

How do you flash it? Is it basically the same as when I did Cyanogenmod, just go to ROM manager and install it or what? Thanks for all the help btw, I got 2.3 now, just trying to get it the way I want now...
Im a little puzzled as to when you post "flash it" care to share what it is your referring to. If its a rom, then yes you could flash it threw rom manger, but I wouldn't recommend it. The safest way Imo is threw your recovery if you want to flash a rom. Also if your referring to a rom which one??? And when you post "the way you want" what is it that your trying to achieve???

Looks wise and apps is what I mean by "the way I want". And basically what I am talking about is custom themes/looks. How would I flash those through recovery. Thats what I am puzzled about lol
Well if your on 2.3 you should have the theme chooser. If that's the case you locate the theme apk. Download it to your sd card. Then open up a file manger and install the theme apk as you would a regular app. Then exit out of your file manger and go to your app drawer and open up theme chooser. Then select the theme you just installed. After its done installing just reboot. Some of the theme chooser themes have extra add on you have to apply to get the full look of theme. The add ons you have to install via zip themer or metamorph. The zip themer you can find in the android themes and apps thread. It might be on the android market but I'm not sure. Metamorph you can find on the android market. If you need help with that aquire either app and just let me know. Now if your theme is flashable via recovery. Download the theme to the root of your sd card. Which means just put the theme on your sd card and not in any folders. Then boot into recovery by powering down. Then hold volume down. Then press the power button. After the screen appears press the home button. Then when your recovery appears. Always make a backup first. Then choose install update zip or flash update zip. Then locate the theme zip and press the track ball. It will ask you to confirm press the track ball for yes or home for no. Press the track ball and when its done press back and choose reboot. When you reboot you should have your rom themed. Make sure the theme your flashing is for your rom because not all themes are for all roms and if you flash the wrong theme you could be entering boot loop city. Also make sure your battery is at least 60 % to flash anything. This is just my opinion on the battery. Well hope this helps. If you find a certain theme you want to install let me know if you run into any problems.

I feel like an idiot asking this question, I myself get sick of seeing the threads but I've been at it for 3 hours and I give up, I've rooted several Heros before but somehow I'm either stupid today or something is new with this one.
I picked up a replacement today and this is what it came with;
2.1
Baseband - 2.42.01.10.29
Kernel - 2.6.29-ba77cf03
Build number - 2.32.651.2
I couldn't get any of the simple rooting methods to work & ADB is something that I simply can not get working on my desktop (win 7 64) after I dunno say 20 different attempts to get it to work, sync won't work either.
any help would be appreciated, I've been using custom roms for years now & this factory rom is driving me insane
Z4 root should work on all versions, but you may have to run it a couple of times.

sweet thanks, phone rooted then flashed recovery now I'm going to go find a delicious new ROM
Thank you
sooo to add to my troubles, after flashing OMGB 1.2.0 the phone does not work anymore, it doesn't boot all the way & gets stuck at an endless force close loop
now what do I do?
Power down, then hold power + home. That will get you to recovery. Wipe boot, and system, data, & cache and try it again or flash a different rom.
Sent from my.....click, click, boom
I have s-on could that be why?
No....You only need s-off to flash from the bootloader. More then likely it was a bad download, bad wipe, or just a bad flash. You should still be able to get to recovery with power + home or power & volume - (to the bootloader) then select recovery from there.
everything is working now, thanks again
No problem. Glad to help. BTW...if you can't get ADB to work, you might want to consider flashing the s-off bootloader.

Hi all
I'm having heaps of problems with my LG O2X. I'm not gonna write them all down now, but i wanted to get rid of them, so I figured I'd root and flash it again, and throw on a new 4.1.x rom. It was rooted earlier on, but I unrooted it 6 months ago, to try LG's official ICS rom for a while. As it turned out to be horrible, this is where I'm at now.
• It's currently running official LG O2X ICS rom
• I've rooted it (tried both Super one click and some other solution).
• When I go to Rom Manager (Premium v.5.0.2.7), grant superuser rights, and press "Flash Clockworkmod recovery", I select LG-P990 (only option). Then it says "LG-P990 does not have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet, Have you installed a ClockworkMod based recovery manually?"
- If I press "Yes" and select ClockworkMod 3.x+, it says "ROM Manager has been set up to use your existing recovery installation.", when I then reboot into recovery, it gives an error logo (android laying down with open stumach-hatch and a red error triangle). The only thing I can do to make it boot again, is reseating the battery.
- If I press "No", it says "Sorry! Until ClockworkMod recovery is available, ROM Manager will not work with LG-P990!"
What am I going to do now? I've tried two times now. I'll be needing this phone working tomorrow, so this is really not good.
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Frederik

Thanks for replying.
I have already tried that tool, but I really did not understand anything. The guide seems half to me.
If you could answer these questions for me about the AIO tool, it'd be great.
What do I connect the phone with? (charge only, mass storage, media sync, USB tethering or LG software)
What do I press in the AIO tool to do the flash recovery which I'd otherwise do in ROM Manager?
How do I flash a rom? Do I use AIO tool or just boot to recovery on the phone as usual?
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards, Frederik.
fyi - i never used it so far (didn't need it yet), but people here talk only the best about it...
several people got problems with their LG p990 in the past few weeks and all of them managed to revive their phones with this tool... even the total android newbies...
i'm sure the app is as noob friendly as possible and the description and guidances from the app is all you must follow...
to use AIO tool, connect your phone with USB debugging on, I think with mass storage. If windows installs adb drivers automatically then you can step forward, if not then press "I" in AIO tool.
Then select change partition to new bootloader (ONLY if you are not on it already), but be aware as it deletes everything off your device.
Finally, go to change recovery image and select the one, it doesn't matter which one imo. there you go, you 'll have a working recovery. put a rom to external storage (as internal gets deleted) and flash it. I think this is how I did it. you can read more information in the first post of AIO tool. I hope I could help.
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda premium
The phone has to be connected to s/w-download mode when using the AIO tool.
This means: 1)Turn off your phone, 2) remove the battery, 3) hold the volume down button while you connect the phone to the USB cable of the PC
Done.
Then choose the options from the AIO menu.
Do I need to mention that you have to install the required drivers before you do that?
I think the explanations are quite clear in the description of the AIO-Tool.
If you dont like to read the explanation completely and/or dont want to make the effort to read realted threads, I recommend to not do it.
For me, the AIO is magic and worked fine. 5 stars.
Kind regards
Dirk

I managed to figure it out, and the methods you guys explained is the way to do it.
I found a 4.2.2 rom for it, which I'm running now, and seems to be fairly good.

My fellow Android users & developers,
I've been out of the game for a while now (since the HTC incredible). I recently purchased an LG G2 when my upgrade came up. I'm moving back from an iPhone. The one thing that I am trying to do with this phone is some how set up tethering. Previously with my incredible I had to root the phone and then install a ROM. I have been searching around google and the site and all I am finding are horror stories of people bricking their phones. There are a million threads here. Can someone point me in the direction of what I need to enable tethering or how to properly root my device so I can install ROMs from the site? Any tips or links would be greatly appreciated!
My Device:
LG G2 VS98039A (Verizon)
Build: LRX22G
Kernel: 3.4.0-perf-ga038154
Thanks,
Scyth3
Just picked up a used G2 that should be arriving tomorrow so doing some homework today on this device. This is what I am planning to do when mine arrives, best of luck to you
root = http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
hotspot (see post 339) = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456338&page=34
First of all, do you have warranty?
If you do, check if your GPS is working, only GPS sensors. There are a lot of reports with LG G2 gps broken, not working, etc.
If its broken, go and replace it. If its works and you are stock 39A, root your phone with root method that @someguyatx recommended and then, install recovery with this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g2/development/tool-freedom-tool-vs980-39a-twrp-t3053134
When done, do a full nandroid backup prior doing anything. After that, I can recommend xddadeb version of Lollipop, its great and removes a lot of bloatware.
Anything, just ask
Thank you both for the replies. My warrenty should be gone at this point. I have had the phone for more than a little while I should have mentioned. How would I go about checking the GPS to ensure it is functioning? I have never had any trouble with using google maps or anything of that nature. Also on the link to the rooting page I noticed below the first post is a "one-click root". Should I manually do the instructions at the top or just use the one-click root?
Thanks again!
I am planning to follow the one click procedure link tomorrow to root as soon as I verify my phone works. Check out the video in the one click link from qbking77, his stuff is always good.
If your maps have been working properly then your GPS should be good to go.
I didn't even scroll down far enough to see the video originally haha. Thank you so much for your help. I'm in the process of rooting it now! I'll update the post once I am finished! :good:
Hope it went well, my phone just came in today so I will be rooting it tonight. Looks like I need to update first since its still on android 4.4.2

Just an advice: lollipop uses more battery so its not mandatory to update to that versio, its your choice.

I'm updated to lollipop, GPS is working great and I rooted after a few tries with the one click and a driver reinstall. Its refreshing to still have devices that root this easy. IJust need to add recovery and flash the hotspot zip. Thanks Deathsync3 for starting the thread and neondunker. Loving the G2 so far, much snappier than the Droid Maxx

Remember to do a full nandroid backup of your stock rom, including EFS and those stuff.
Everything went smoothly. I did have some initial trouble though. To anyone using this method it does work BUT, when you get to the point after you have installed the drivers for the device and unzipped the .exe. Plug your phone in and click start root. when you get the prompts on the phone DO NOT check the box that says, "always allow". I REPEAT DO NOT CHECK the box. Simple click "ok" on the prompts and the root will complete sucessfully. I am now onto installing backup , a ROM, and hotspot. @neondunker can you link me to the ROM that you were talking about in the post? Also can you explain a little more in depth or provide a link in regards to what needs to be backed up? Is it still like the HTC Incredible where I had to go in and clear the cache, delvik cache, etc? Thanks again everyone!
Well the idea is to perform a full nandroid backup before leaving stock just in case. Then you can leave that backup on a pendrive or computer.
About the rom, is the xdadeb one in android devolpment. You wont miss it since itsa always in the first page. Just follow the instructions, dumb proof hehehehe.

@neondunker One last thing. How do I enter back into recovery mode now that TWIN is installed? Thanks for all of your other help man!
Two ways
One through adb and the other is to power off the cellphone. Then power up while pressing power + down volume. As soon as the lg logo appears release the buttons and hold again volume down.

What is ADB? annd when I power off then power and hold down the power and volume button it puts the phone into safe mode....I just did some searching outside the fourm. It seems this is the way to get into TWRP.
Try holding volume down + power
Immediately when LG appears let go of both and ONLY hold onto power, should boot into option to factory reset
Hit power button 3 times to continue, then it will load twrp
Even though it highlights factory reset it will NOT erase your data and should open up to TWRP.

Thank you illyfilly and bodom_hc. Bodom_hc's method worked. I know others must be having this same issue/maybe someone should post it up somewhere. I really apprecaite the time you both took out to reply to me. Now I can flash rom's like I have for every other device. Much appreciated, thank you!

Thank you for this! I was having the same problem. I have to admit, I panicked a little when it said it was proceeding with the factory hard reset, but then the recovery screen came up. Phew!
Thanks again.
Can anyone quadruple confirm that doing this does NOT erase all user data/settings and factory reset the G2? I'm honestly too scared to do this as I can't do a nandroid backup without TWRP... Thank so much!

@someguyatx In order to access TWRP using the phones buttons:
****PLEASE NOTE this is for the VERIZON LG G2****
1. Power down your phone
2.HOLD the following buttons: POWER button and the DOWN volume button
3. Once the LG logo pops up let go of the buttons
4. Once the LG logo disappears hold both the POWER and DOWN volume button again
5. This will take you to the factory data reset screen
6.You will see some text that says, "Erase all user & restore default settings --> your selections will be yes or no. Select YES ( just trust me)
7. It will prompt you again ---> select YES, but this time press the power button 3 times ( so YES, YES, YES.)
8. The phone will go back to the LG screen and then the TEAMWIN logo will pop up and take you into recovery.
@someguyatx and @neondunker and @amcleod1995 have a question for both of you though.....This version of TWRP seems to be behind in regards to some of the ROMs I've looked at our is 5.x.x.x they use 6.x.x.x. I saw that some of the boot stacks include the "updated version" but how do you flash a boot stack? My brother started another thread asking the question as we have both reasearched quite a bit to avoid bricking out LGs.
Brother's thread ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/how-to-flash-bootstack-t3139847
I flashed xdabbeb 3.1.2 Rom this morning and just followed the directions, first I flashed the 39a bootstack then rebooted to recovery wiped the stuff it said and flashed the Rom. So far it's running great.
Yes, its a great rom and the multitasking apps have improved over the 4.4 version. The only drawback is the battery life.
Hello. I have unlocked bootloader successfully (it says "unlocked" at screen and also "tampered"). I have all the fastboot/adb software on my windows pc and can communicate with the phone. I flash recovery via fastboot and it is successful...includes a "recovery" option under bootloader options but it just flashes a disclaimer screen and quickly goes back to bootloader screen. Without custom recovery I cannot root this phone which is my goal. I have tried to reflash other recovery images, including cmw and twrp - I believe cmw is on it now but it won't open.
Hoping someone can assist me with this.
Thank you

Reflash whichever recovery you plan to use then remove the battery and put it back in then hold the volume down button and then press and hold the power button at the same time and the phone should then boot to recovery. Make a backup after so you have something to fall back on just in case.

Are you actually holding both buttons down at the same time until the screen turns on? Don't let them go hold them both down until your screen lights up. Then select recovery but if it doesn't work then try below.
Try flashing this version of twrp https://twrp.me/devices/htcdesire510usa32bit.html ... If you're not in the USA I need to know.
Flashing twrp didn't change anything unfortunately. I recently tried re-locking my bootloader and attempted to flash stock images back to the phone but when I press "yes" to the question about voiding the warranty before unlocking the bootloader again...the disclaimer just flashes and the phone won't let it.
Also, I cannot seem to restore it to stock through the menu...nor the bootloader screen.
So now I have "tampered" and "Relocked" banners on top of bootloader screen.
One the upside, the phone itself works fine (I currently only use it for wifi).
Only thing I can think of is I originally flashed a corrupt recovery img (or incompatible version).
Hoping you or someone else has any ideas as to how to get this thing working again. I'd be happy with reverting completly back to stock and starting the process over..

What service provider are you using?
Don't toss the unlock code you got from HTC you're gonna need the very first one you got keep it forever.
I'm using Boost but I think I figured it out. It ended up being a corrupt download of cmw. I actually used an ruu to get back stock and now the whole process went smoothly. Just looking for a rom that fits...got any recommendations in that area?

Funny enough I never made a backup before and constantly have to re-locate stock images due to soft bricking. I now am making backups so as not to go through that again.
I have a question perhaps you could answer -- if I install a rom that doesn't include any additional tweaks such as extended personaliation options in settings (transitions, etc, etc.)..is there a mod I can flash to achieve that?

For extended personalizing other than developer options, I'd use Xposed.

Not really since everyone has their own tastes but I'd advise you to create a backup in your recovery so you can use it in case something goes wrong. Currently me and a friend are working on CM13/12..

The USA model because myself and rb don't have the EU phone to even test anything on it.. We still have a lot of booting problems right now. I'd say if you wanted to help I'd have to ask what you know about building roms from source? Have you done it before?
P.S: There's already a CM-12.1 available for the EU model although it does have some issues.. You should read about it if you want to try it..

It's pretty cool and fun once you get the hang of making things and seeing them function right, and the other thing is... You'll need a pretty decent computer to compile/build with and it'll need to have at least 4GB ram (more is better) and about 50 to 100 GB hard drive space for building your rom plus the CM source code needs to be on your system too...

Well how fast is your internet? By the way.. I'm using a Linux operating system... What are you using? It cannot be done on Windows unless you use a VM.
Hey, I also faced this problem but I find the solution and successfully flash twrp

Thank you
