Hi All,
previously i was on stock ics + speedmod kernel, and i've been trying JB custom roms like paranoidandroid and supernexus
however, when i try to type on the onscreen keyboard (swiftkey 3) it is very laggy
performance wise (like opening app drawer) etc is also slower then before
did not installed any apps other den swiftkey 3 to test out the responsiveness hence i doubt its due to apps running in foreground or something liek that
pls advice what i should do to resolve this laggyness
do i have to go back to stock unrooted ics firmware, den root + flash Supernexus again?
clean install procedures on safe kernels is a must first time.
Second jbs butter is not yet working fully.

Dude, I was suffering from somewhat this kinda problems, but the solution is as follows:
First flash to factory GB, then root it, format data, cache n all, then flash to JB or any u like, flash a safe kernel, format data / cache, enjoy lag free performance.
BE SURE TO BE ON A SAFE KERNEL BEFORE FLASHING/FORMATTING CACHE, DALVIK n all
PREss ThAnKs if this helped u

possibly because of Memory leak issue. u will have to reboot ur phone once in a while on custom JB roms,
also try a factory reset.
After flashing a rom, the phone will scan for media files. This can cause lag and heat. Let this finish before you evaluate. Also try the phone without installing Swiftkey. That too could be the problem.

Hello. I've got mu SGS for about an year. I recently installed an ICSSGS ROM on it and I enjoy it but it's kind of sluggish. Also a "low space remaining" notification appears and I don't know how to get rid of it.
I want to ask you how I can clear the internal 6 GB on my phone and make it run smoother(can I just delete everything or are there some system files?), how I can install the Semaphore kernel and a good ICS ROM for a smooth experience and some games.
Thanks in advance!

I think you would just go to Settings - Backup & reset, select Factory data reset.
This will put your phone back into the "brand new" state when it first came out of the factory.
You'll lose all your apps, data and custom settings that you've been using.
Best thing to do now is to flash a new ICS like Slim Ics, Dark knight 5.5 or TWICS (i've tried these and they are very good roms). You can download one of these rom into .zip archive, put it into your device and flash via recovery. After that, you can flash a kernel of your choice in the same way (if it is in .zip format) or through Odin if it is in .Tar format
Factory reset means wiping all data and apps except system apps and data.that will clean your phone from all apps u installed after flashing the last rom(of cause u wipe everything when installing a new rom) this will get rid of any lag or sluggishness u are experiencing.
But first try wipe cache and dalvik in cwm.
Next download "easy cache cleaner" from play store and clean your cache.this normally solves the problem
Ps. I know the adds are annoying, but it's one of best free cleaners. To get rid of the adds download "droidwall" and check the apps that need internet/data connection and apply.it's like a firewall only the apps u allow permission have internet/data connection
I originally planned to switch to the Paranoid Android ROM, which would allow me to run tablet-oriented apps on my Galaxy Note, and whilst that would be absolutely fantastic the process seems beyond my technological abilities. Not only that, but I'd lose the S-Pen applications that I actually use quite a bit, so I decided in the end against switching ROMs. But, I still have a brick-bug infected kernel, so how difficult is changing kernels (not ROMs) and will I lose any data if change kernels? Also, are there any other benefits to changing Android kernels and will it still allow me to update my stock ROM via Kies or OTA like normal?
Switching kernels is easy. Is usually flash zip via CWM and that's it. If you want to make 100% that you got rid of all the remains of your old kernel you can flash jbroid script right before you flash (no reboot in between). Some kernels are only availale via Mobile Odin flash, but that's minority. Even then it's install Mobile Odin and flash kernel -> the end. Swithching kernels shouldn't affect anything unless it's some special kernel with unusual features. Just read the instrucitions carefully and make sure you flash TouchWiz kernels for stock and stock-based ROMs and AOSP/CM9 kernels for AOSP/CM9 based ROMs.
I would recommend trying Paranoidandroid anyways. The process is not much more complicated. Flash Abyssnote Kernel 4.2, reboot recovery (in Clockwork Recovery advanced options), wipe device (factory reset, format data, format dalvik cache), flash ROM and flash google apps. Reboot - done. You will lose S Pen partially but there are apps in the market working with S Pen and even recognizing button press (Papyrus Beta for instance). So the only thing that I've lost is double tap for instant note - I can live with that. Paranoidandroid features and performance make it up for me.
Good luck!
P.S. You will lose KIES and other Samsung apps if you flash PA. It's a CM9 based ROM, all the fancy stuff from Samsung is gone. Not that I miss it, since I've learned how to flash I never used all this crap anyways.

I can't wipe data though because of the brick bug and, as awesome as Paranoid Android is, I need the S-Pen apps (not so much Kies).

That is precisely why you flash Abyssnote Kernel just before flashing the ROM. It has no brickbug so wiping is safe. What other S Pen apps do you need apart from S Memo?
Anyways, you know best what you need so good luck

I use S-Memo to leave myself memos for homework tasks and other simple reminders. I enjoy cooking quite a bit, so when I find a recipe I like I compile it into S Note. S Planner I use frequently to set due dates for homework tasks, remind myself of friends' birthdays, and other important events. The S-Pen apps have ben a life saver when it comes to helping me organise my life.
I understand. In my own experience S Memo can be replaced by Papyrus, but my notes are rather simple so I don't know if it would work for you. I do use S Plannar A LOT (my work depends on it) and I don't see much difference if I'm using just plain stock calendar. Remember that S Pen still works on AOSP/CM9 ROMs like Paranoidandroid, just some things like gestures combined with button (which in all honesty I don't use at all) that don't work.
Warning. Flash paranoid while running on gb. If you flash it while in ics it will hardbrick your device.

If you flash a kernel you dont need a modem to go with it. You can flash modem separately it depends what will the best that works in your country. Flash ics kernel for ics rom and to gingerbread also the same.
Hi,
I have recently updated my galaxy note's firmware to 4.1.2. Eversince the upgrade, the phone hangs several times a day and has slowed down drastically.
There is a huge lag even in simple things like typing on whatsapp, clicking a photo, watching a video, playing music files.
I have seen that there are a few others who have experienced similar problem in Note II.
Can someone please suggest me a way to fix this? I am having to restart the phone atleast 6 times everyday.
Thanks

Hi baz77,
I did the upgrade via samsung kies, connect phone to my PC. few weeks ago.
Thx
system is too heavy on a stock JB rom.. root it and remove some unused apps like chaton , google plus etc etc..
Note 1 hangs after 4.1.2 upgrade
@ nokiamodeln91 - thnanks for your response. I am not completely aware of the process of rooting the phone.
Is rooting very complex? Could there be any warranty issues?
Thx

Rooting does void your warranty but the process is relatively simple. Follow 1a method in this guide.
the link rcheung28 has provided is the perfect way / safe way

If ever you have to return your phone to the service center, simply flash an official wipe ROM through PC Odin (that will remove the root and restore the phone to its "original" state). That's what I did when I had to replace mine (I flashed a Gingerbread ROM, made sure the phone booted fine and I was good to go).

Iam on JB DXLSE. Using Philz kernel DXLSE. Done factory reset but problem is still there. Batt drain quite fast with apps that hang once in a while. Slightly more laggy than ICS. Not the fault of kernel since Philz use stock kernel. Seems to be the problem of Rom. Media service seems to be running too often. But cant disable that app.
Anyone have any problem solving solution?:crying:

I haven't used a stock ROM for while, not because of battery drain (which is mostly app-related and can be checked with BBS), but because it was sluggish compared to CM.
As for the media scanner issue, you can try this app.

Was on stock when I did the factory reset before flashing Philz. Nothing happen to my phone but I cant confirm that nothing is wrong. Maybe its because I got away with it. But I can only let you know that I did the reset on stock JB DXLSE Rom and kernel.
Even after doing the reset. Can still notice the batt drain and sometimes some apps can hang. Theres some laggy interface. Isnt as smooth as when I was on ICS 4.04.

maybe the custom kernel that you installed eats a lot of battery and/or the apps that you installed consumes resource even on the background..
try all stock kernel and rom.. let it settle for a week..
try also to replace the battery..
now if you insist in custom kernels, due to the fact that they are proven safe and has working CWM..
try tweaking with the settings.. through its governors,,
try debloating your rom by removing unnecessary bloatwares..
see if either any of this make sense to your device..

Philz kernel is stock kernel with brink bug removed. So basically its a stock one.
For settings. I managed to set it as the same when Iam on ICS 4.04. For bloatware, all are disabled. Practically I set it as the same when Iam on ICS 4.04. Thats why Iam sure the batt drain and slight lag is there.
Hopefully someone here have a solution to it. :fingers-crossed:

One thing that I've noticed that I haven't heard people talk about (maybe because it's stupid and non-applicable) is to go into your DCIM folders, both on your SD and in the phone and delete the entire .thumbnails directory. Mine somehow managed to accumulate a good GB or so of thumbs and that appeared to be bogging down media searching.
Even after that, phone has been really laggy lately. Going into running apps, I noticed a "Software Update" process running, even though I know this phone will not OTA update. Killed that process and things were ok again. YMMV.
It 's been a week since i flashed saurom rom to my phone and it was really slow so i decided to go back to jb.i ve just installed paranoidandroid romand my phone still lags like hell.Everything is slow even the rom installing takes more time...
i always do all the wipes before and after the installation.Anyone has any idea to help?
You could try another kernel or install greenify and hibernate some apps. If it doesnt chaNge anything, at least you discard those as culprits.
it feels like my internal sd card has gone slow is this possible?

2,5 years old .I ve flashed about 20 roms or maybe more.
You have to start with a clean slate, I guess
1. Backup EVERYTHING you can, even contacts, sms and notes to paper notepad
Don't forget about Nandroid, efs and programs ofc
2. Disable all your tweaks
3. Install the latest stock ROM via Odin 1.82 or Heimdall
4. Root it!
5. Install CM7 then CM9 then CM10.2
6. And Paranoid Android
After this hardcore method your phone shoud work as a charm

Get the JVU stock rom , the repartition makes the .PIT file in odin...
Get a stock ROM , CM7 or CM9 ; cause these 3 are the fastest and best.
To say the truth , you can forget CM10,CM10.1 and CM10.2 ; cause the battery life or the smoothness are quite bad.
I see CM10 and above only as a little gimmick

I noticed on several occasions that within a week or two after a new ROM flash, the performance goes down until it gets really annoying (choppy, actions take a longer time). This has happened to me on both stock and custom ROMs. I read on the boards suggestions like cleaning the cache, having task killers, etc. But I wonder, isn't caching supposed to speed up things by principle? Furthermore, some apps cannot essentially be killed, since they start automatically again shortly after.

Please don't use third party task killer. They are just waste of battery and performance.
It helps to wipe dalvik cache from time to time.

Task killers, really? I had no idea. I have always thought that it's the otherway round, improving performance, because sometimes it's insane how many apps are running on the background.
Anyway, thank you for the tip.

Hi,
I own a Galaxy Note GT-N7000.
I never rooted it, just used two official updates provided by Samsung and then flashed the original 4.1.2 using Odin.
I have rooted my older Android phones (San Francisco) and used to try all kinds of ROM's on many Windows Mobile phones - I am not a exactly a noob, I just did not mess with my Note, because I am happy with it just like it is and because it is my work phone, which needs to be 100% working.
However, battery life is getting shorter (so I just ordered a new original Samsung battery) and, worse, the phone is getting more and more unresponsive.
This is the real problem: whenever I want to do something, it takes like 1-2 seconds, if not longer, before the phone reacts. This is very annoying. I don't have that many apps installed (I just stick with my preferred ones, instead of betting on sheer quantity). Still, the other day, the phone complained that there is no free space to install upgrades of some apps.
To make it short: how can I install a clean original 4.1.2 as if my phone was just purchased, i.e. with a clean flash?
Before you flame me and tell me I should spend the next month reading the forum: I already did!
I am afraid of the brick bug, so I guess that doing a wipe of the flash is not an option, as i guess that the bug has not been fixed by Samsung on 4.1.2. On the other hand, I do not want to root my phone, to install some custom kernel, to then wipe the flash and revert to the official ROM, risking to activate the counter, etc. Not that I don't know my way around flashing, soldering, building the flash dongle or even JTAG - I just don't have the time and nerve.
So my simple question: How do I securely wipe the flash and install a clean official 4.1.2 ROM on my phone, getting rind of 2 years of garbage files and God knows what else is slowing down my phone.
Many thanks for those guiding my way - I don't want to believe that there is a planned obsolescence in course, like Samsung building a timer that makes the phone get slower and slower...
Cheers,
vma
If you really want to enjoy the speed of your phone, IMO, you should go ahead and try CM /AOSP roms. They will give you some time out of the "slowness".
Just saying. On the other had if you want to be on the stock TW 4.1.2 rom, then doing a factory reset from the recovery will do the job. JB kernels for 4.1.2 seems to be safe to do a reset as there has not been cases of bricking on stock JB kernel.
But what my method would be to...
1. Install Philz kernel for JB using recovery and boot into recovery again... to get CWM recovery this time
2. Choose wipe data/factory reset ----> Clean for new rom install. (this will delete the current rom, data and cache)
3. Mounts and Storage -> Format Internal storage.
4. Mount USB storage and connect to PC... delete all files
5. Go to advanced menu and choose reboot download.
6. connect to PC and flash stock rom JB using odin,
Thanks for your reply.
However, you say:

Don't factory reset/Hard reset on stock ICS.
Don't flash any Wipe version of ICS ROM"

Its applies only to ICS stock kernels. There is no evidence to prove that JB is safe. but Samsung seems to have suppressed the bug on JB kernels.
