Just thought I'd share a story.
I'm a medical resident and today, during our daily afternoon lecture, the computer connected to the projector wasn't working. The attending physician giving the presentation of course had his powerpoint slides on a flash drive with no way to display them. However, the overhead projector was still going strong so I took out my OTG cable and Nexus 7 and we were able to get through the lecture using that. It worked surprisingly well with the overhead projector displaying the image on the screen.
Not too long ago I was wondering why I even bothered to carry the OTG cable in my coat since I never really use it and almost took it out.
Here goes a dumb question

If you conected the USB to the OTG to load the presentation, how did you send the presentation (or conected) the Nexus to the projector???
I'm guessing they copied the presentation from the drive then connected the projector. Just a guess.
Overhead projector. He blew up the nexus 7 screen using the same kind of projector that's used to blow up handwriting/paper

There are some overhead projectors that have this device that will project what is happening realtime. For example if you have a book, you lay it down on the projector device and the image of the book is projected onto the screen (your hands turning the page too)
I'm assuming that this was what was used by the OP because all you would have to do is lay the tablet on the device. I think it's called a visual presenter?

Yeah, it's one of these

Heh, it's mostly used to display EKGs.
What IS old school is the dermatologist who likes to use a slide projector for his presentations rather than PowerPoint. Ha ha

Have been using the Mobile Hotspot app off and on for the past couple of days for Netflix streaming and the phone screen gets hot enough to where I can't use it for a phone call without risking burning my face.
Trying to figure out if this is a problem, or normal behavior - haven't rooted the phone yet in case I need to send if back.
Is the phone supposed to get ridiculously hot when running the Mobile Hotspot app?
My Droid 2 would get Seriously hot like that. I just got home with my bionic like 8 seconds ago so i havent experienced it on this, but phone do get way way hot. Especially since they are now thinner, beefier proc, etc.
I started out with a Droid X and it would get that hot when I used it as a hotspot. I have a bionic and it does the same thing even when I'm tethered to my PC.
When it's tethered to my PC I let my phone sit on top of a zip lock bag filled with water and it stays at a nice temperature.
Phew! Good to know that I'm not the only one...thanks.
The water-filled ziploc would be a DISASTER in my house - I've got a toddler and a kitten so the phone needs to be out of reach and nowhere near water.
I think I've found a solution. Hooked a car mount to a fan (that's out of everyone's reach), wrapped a charger cable around it and strapped the phone into it. Seems to be helping.

that's really creative! haha water cooled vs air cooled.
We're doing all this to preserve our hardware that out-of-the-box an overheating machine.
This is ridiculous the things you have to to havea phone with out issues. My thunderbolt reach 113 degrees watching youtube.

I'm kinda meh about all those. Even the dock, with no HDMI or some other connectors I don't see the point to it.
I'm unhappy with the cases out now and if this case is slim enough and has magnet lock and close and some sort of stand mechanism, I'd pay 50ish bucks for it. The cases out now are pretty good for their ten dollar price tags but I want something nicer.

It's called business strategy. No HDMI out on the device or the dock means you have to by the Q. Stupid, yeah, but business wise, that's how the game works. Why put in HDMI when we can charge them $300 to stream everything?
I would love to purchase the Q, but I just spent $200 on this tablet. I bought it because I wanted something cheap yet good (which I got). The only way i'll get the Q is if someone else buys it for me (HA!) or I win it in a competition (....HAHAHAHA! Yeah, right, I NEVER win anything, lol).
But yeah, so there's your business reason for no HDMI.

POGO wouldn't support HDMI anyway, not enough pins... besides the whole point of not having HDMI is that you will be able to do it wirelessly.
Should start seeing this very soon using WiFi direct and the Miracast protocols. The hardware is already there to do it in the Nexus 7

I hate dongles. There, I said it. I. Hate. Dongles.
With the OTG capabilities and the enormous (relatively) storage capability of SD cards these days, it seemed that using a dongle with the N7 was inevitable. So I took the plunge and got one. But what to do about strain relief and <sigh> that damned floppy dongle getting in my way all the time?
I added Velcro strips to the case and to the dongle in order to keep it in place and out of my way when I was using it. Two wide strips on the back of the case, and one on the front provide more than adequate anchoring so that the N7 can sit on my desk in landscape mode AND hold the dongle in place and out of the way without a problem. It also keeps the mini USB socket from sustaining any damage from the dongle flopping around.
Here's the photos of what I did and I'm very satisfied with the end result.

As long as it works for you admittedly otg cables and dongles are not very handy things, I'm sure someone could come up with an all in one solution that matches the base line of the tablet and looks like a short extension of it.
No luck yet but im hopeful
I have send email and a small drawing to a hand full of connector design companies . Asking them about a ribbon like micro usb connector something that would be very slim low profile.. IF i get someone willing to make them . i will start a thread asking for those wanting a low profile usb otg to buy into getting the minimum made. Its like to be about 300 connectors at 25 cents to 1.00 each... There is a unlimited use for such a plug for this and other devices ..
Just thought i would add it as i see the stressful post .. I have a similar thing for my nexus Its ugly tacky and i do not like it .
Nice pics thou
I did something similar to my Poetic case last night., I just used industrial strength velcro, and less of it. Here's a few pics. I'm at work, and in a low light environment, so the pictures aren't great...

and this is how my dash looked before hand
now my current/previous set up was a modded head unit with pre outs to a pre amp which in the picture is above the HU- (that is now underneath the HU) then that to my amp for my speakers and my sub
so it fits pretty nicely inside but
-I want it to be removable
-and there is no space at the side for headphone jack or USB....
anyway, got the facia and fitted
and am now thinking of just getting a plastic case and glueing it to the front and so my nexus can snap in and out
but that means I will have wires hanging out the edge which I will have to connect every time- not the end of the world though.....
so just waiting for this case to turn up and an OTG connector and I can get it in and working
I will use the voulme controls on the pre amp/graphics EQ to control the volume so not too worried about that and tasker to control display
which leads me onto a question about tasker- I only really got it last night so havent had much time to play with it....
but I would like to set up the following
when plugged in: screen on all the time, between 7am and 8pm screen on max, between 8pm and 7am screen on lowest
and on auto brightness when not plugged in
as I want to use this day to day so will be removable so dont want the brightness changing if im using it in the house...
or the other way is use the users and have one for house and one mode for car?
so I need a little bit of help with tasker? thoughts?
once thats all sorted I will be looking into adding a Freeview USB dongle and using a kernal which supports it so I can listen to DAB
I left a long walkthrough on how to do what you want with tasker, including airplane mode here:

Take a look at usbfirewire.com (if available in the UK). I had the same issue with next to no space for headphone jack or USB, they sell a downward facing micro USB extension. Worked perfectly for me in the minimal space I had, also look into adding a USB-DAC as that then cuts out having to run the headphone cable.
Do you have some sort of custom made facing for the nexus? It looks like it in the last pic.

Has anyone gotten desktop mode working? I haven't been able to with any adapter that worked with my mate 10 pro...
Yeah works using a cheap Amazon usb c to hdmi for me..
Yep, cheapest USB-HDMI that I could find on Amazon worked fine.
Yep £10 adapter from Amazon works a charm although one thing I've noticed is that Excel/Word will not work on there without a 365 licence which is a little annoying.
I got it working using an amazon adaptor but the quality of the picture is very suspect for me. Looking at some really nice photos I have taken on there doesn't do them any justice really.

It's most likely because you're viewing on a 1080/4K monitor and not the phones native resolution which is what it outputs at. (Pretty daft if you ask me) Also someone mentioned if viewing on a TV that changing the input settings of the HDMI to PC improves quality too.

Most of the apps including Microsoft excel mobile do not work in landscape mode in Huawei desktop mode. Not sure what is the plan from Huawei to close the gap of compatibility issue.

Allrighty... Guess I was trying to be too fancy by using USB C docks. Though they worked on the Mate.

I wanted to do something like this, so that the phone gets docked into an already setup dock (HDMI/USB Mouse Keyboard) rather than just plugged in to a wire. But couldn't see anything that would fit the bill. Considering making something myself to solve the problem
I'm using something similar to this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/ARKTEK-Cha...F8&qid=1525091973&sr=8-24&keywords=usb+c+hdmi
and thinking of modifying this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Youbeautif...=1525092036&sr=1-5&keywords=clear+phone+stand
So would be a case of mounting the USB C port through the bottom of the stand and then fixing the ports themselves to the bottom base of it.
