[Q] Reduced S-Pen writing and reading capabilities - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After buying N7000, I was able to write with the S-Pen everything including punctuation marks and symbols like @, etc. I could also zoom text on the browser, changed to landscape position and the text would re-wrap to fit in the screen. This last thing disappeared after the next updates.
After the very last update of Android (weeks after ICS) IMM76D.XXLRT, I no longer could write punctuation marks at all. I now need to resort to the keyboard every time I need a dot or a comma. Google Voice does no longer recognise the commands for the punctuation. So I wonder how could I get all these remarkable features back without buying the new N710x? Or is there a way to revert to the first ICS update we had for Note I?
If Samsung does not release adaptations of TouchWiz to every new Android version I fear nobody is going to buy a Note 3.

s-pen in the ROM imilka's AOSP ICS v03

Friends, I need to consult about this rom. I have installed the last few days and it works very well, mainly in the tablet bike is the best thing about this rom.
The problem is that it does not work anything related to the s-pen, is there any way to install something so that the s-pen works as it works to Ginger?
Thank you very much.
there is already a fix for it, a user posted. if you searched the thread you would have found it. its on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516515&page=164

Thank you very much. Already down, and now I'm going to change the root explorer as it says in the post. Now, so fix the issue of s-pen, but how do I get off SMEMO and applications that are SMEMO LITE brings Samsung to operate the pen?
You won't get any sammy app running on ASOP builds. All s-apps are related to the samsung-touchwiz framework.
Does, that mean an app writen with the spen sdk wont run on aosp roms

Finally back on Android! But need some help to get started again!

Hey everyone!
I've had plenty of Android phones through out the years. But recently i had the Iphone 4s. But after 3 months I was so sick of it. So today, i went and bought myself a SGN, and i love it! Have been playing around with it for 1-2 hours now.
I just rooted it via a youtube-clip I found. I'm still on gingerbread though, cuz I don't have a normal sized sim card (the iphone only takes small ones). But here are my questions I need help with.
1) Is there any way to update to ICS without a simcard? Because when I try to update OTA, it just says "Insert simcard".
2) What is your keyboard of choice?
3) I've seen plenty of you guys going in to so called "tablet mode". How do you do that? I want my phone to be in landscape all the time.
4) Is there any good battery packs that works with a flip (book style) case that works like a kickstand if you fold it in a special way? I have seen both good 3rd part batteries AND nice flip book cases that can be folded in to a kickstand, but I want the two of them in one. Or a better battery that are the same physical size as the stock one.
Thanks!
Have a look to my signature, it will be better for good starting

Best keyboard is Swype.
Don't know about SIM free install.
I suspect a CWM install doesn't require a SIM.
Make sure you read Dr. Ketan for all of the critical info you need for safe ROM and kernel flashing.

dude, is there any way u can give me like 5 min one-on-one help on skype? It's so much text on your (amazing) tutorial-threads.. my head hurts haha
I think it was your video on youtube I saw. So, I have rooted Gingerbread, but want ICS and rooted. Do i have to "unroot" to update to ICS? or can I flash a ICS rom just the way i did with gingerbread one? I'm a bit confused here haha.

The best way to mess with roms on a rooted note is mobile odin pro. Flash whatever rom you like without ever loosing root again.

1st :- You can flash ICS using PC Odin or Mobile Odin Pro. Just download the rom from ketan thread and put your phone in download mode by pressing Vol Down+Home+Power button simultaneously.
2nd :- For me Swiftkey 3. Link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&feature=top-paid
3rd :- Tablet mode is the mode that runs on tablets. But as the developers doing wonders day by day you can use it on SGN too. There are some roms in Original Android Development Thread that supports Tablet mode like Paranoid Android/Milestone 6/JB/CM10/CM9 editions. Link to thread :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1700
4th :- You can have a look in the accessories section here :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1348

I think I've messed up a bit haha. I flashed ICS with PC odin, and everything was fine. But I wanted do try Paranoidandroid. And in that thread it said that you should go back to GB before flashing it. So i did via the link in your signature. I flashed back to GB. But now my phone got messed up. I can boot it up. But at the "first-start-installation" thingy i get FC's on RAM and some calender stuff. Also, when i try to type in my gmail in the beginning it just types "null" for every letter I try to write.
Have i been so stupid and bricked my phone? Could it be that your GB in your signature was a full wipe recovery thing? Cuz I remembered somewhere that you shouldn't wipe the stock ICS.
You have any plans?
As for now, i'm downloading Paranoidandroid v0.5 and i'm going to try to flash it right away and see what happends.
Nothing to.worry, just reboot in recovery and wipe cache and data then flash custom rom.
Force closes is normal when you flash gb rom over ics. And null typing error will go with mew rom.

ok so i got ParanoidAndroid to work. No problem. The only problem I have now is installing the gapps. can't find the zip file for it. On the link in the thread, there's like 12 different files, but no complete zip file for gapps. And I tried to download them all, but them on my sd card and install. But all of them fails. it's like frameworks, some settings thingy n stuff. But non of them works to install from the recovery menu.

Updating P7310XWKJ5 with USA's ICS

Hi guys,
Just posting to say that yesterday I flashed the ICS from the USA on my P7310XWKJ5 (Europe).
All I needed to do was follow this great instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582943
The file to flash, by Odin, is this one:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/169458139/5cca4ab/P7310UELPB_P7310XARLPB_XAR.zip.html
Guys... there is no need to worry. This is an official update from Sammy so if you have the Honeycomb stock there will be no problem at all.
I believe that Europe didn't receive the update only to avoid everyone in the world updating at the same time.
ICS with Touchwiz is simply great. The tablet is now much smoother and faster. ICS is much better then HC.
The only thing that you will lose in the update is the config of your 5 homes. Besides that, all your apps will be ok and your saved data.
Don't wait anymore... flashing Odin style and enjoy the best Samsung as to offer.
At least I did...
Cheers! Coragem com isso!
P.S: make sure you have the samsung drivers on your pc... to test it just install Kies and connect your tablet. If Kies recognizes your tablet then you are good to go.
BTW: no need to thank... I didn't do anything... I just pressed my balls against one another (crossed my fingers) and did the update. Thanks for your help almaalma74.

Has anyone else tried this method? I am tired of waiting here in Spain for the ICS update, and with Sammy's background there is a low probability of receiving it in the short-term. Which are the implications of install the USA version? Will I be able to use OTA for update the tablet in the future? Its better to install via CWM? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

LOL, just gave you a free "thanks" - clicked wrong button.
Anyway, lots of people have done that - well, at least the update using the USA ICS, of course they were coming from a variety of ROM (not only that xwkj5)
Anyway, there's no reason it shouldn't work. A few people (strangely, mostly from Switzerland) had an issue, that the ICS failed to work properly (garbled screen) and found they had to Odin-flash a specific HC 3.2 version, and only then it worked. But that's a minority, and the solution is simple.
future OTA - if you load this ROM, you will get future OTA distributed to the "USA" market. (until you flash another region's ROM)
What to install... if you want to make sure to have the original ICS experience from Samsung (with nothing removed or added), I would recommend to use the stock file for Odin. If you want, you can follow that up with an Odin-flashable recovery & a root.zip flashed from recovery.
see e.g.
for download Odin-flashable recovery (I still prefer the slightly older 5.1.2.6 - for a more complete and logical menu than 5.5.0.4; and more reliable than 6.x)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30839339&postcount=52
for root package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30837767&postcount=47
Thanks guys for the help. With the fingers crossed today I flashed the usa version via Odin. Simple procedure and very happy with the update. It preserved everything just like a normal update. So long any bugs, huge improvement of perfomance, certainly a new experience. I will try to root it in the nexts days when I have time. Thanks to everyone except Sammy

I updated my P7300 with this image and it works great, except for the obvious loss of 3G.
If you don't have a current requirement for 3G then I can definitely recommend the update.
I used the rooted modded version, btw, with some apps removed. See the development forum.

I updated my UK GT-P3710 with US Stock ICS via ODIN. Initially smooth and good update. I have had 3 freezes while updating Titanium Backup Pro around 100+ apps. I ended up restoring apps individually with no freezes. I also noticed some brief pauses while playing Airline Control which I have noticed in the past with ICS Custom roms.
I flashed CMW5.5.04 and then used original root from recovery to gain root. No problems. Camera is working great.
I am now trying to flash A1 kernel ver 1.7 wifi to see if I can overclock. FAIL so I restored original boot.img. Overclock might have to wait.
I am liking ICS so much I might get a Galaxy S3 now with rumours of JB update coming.

I just flashed it using ODIN on my 7300... it works without any problem (but without 3G of course).
Just for info: Flashing using ODIN replaces the recovery as well.... so afterwards you will have to re-flash (again using ODIN) a custom recovery in order to continue playing...

Need URGENT help please

Hi guys.
It's 2 in the morning here in the U.K and I have to get up at 7:30, still racking my brain...
I wanted a standard ROM so I uninstalled root. I then did a factory reset, now my samsung keyboard just types as null null null...
I can only use ODIN now to flash, I have no CWM. I have no way of using Mobile ODIN either as I have no root.
What do I do? I have Baseband version N7000XXLRB. With Build Number IMM76D.XXLRG
I have gone on to the main rom page and just downloaded the first U.K one I saw. Is this okay? I'm running stock ICS and stock recovery.
Also when I open up standard recovery instead of the little green droid with the shape in his tummy, theres now a droid laying down with his tummy open with a little red warning triangle?
So the bottom line is, how can I fix it so that when I type it doesn't say null null null. I need my phone desperately and I need all the help I can get.
Thanks in advance.
Oli
Just try flashing the ROM again dude... if the problem persist, got rooted then install RootExplorer go to system/app folder and delete AxT9IME.odex file then flash the ROM again by Odin..

Nothing To Worry. Do this
Just Open PCOdin. Put your phone in Download Mode. Connect it to PC using USB Cable.Select the same rom file which you have on your phone now under CSC tab instead of PDA tab and flash. It will solve your problem
Here you can find all roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Okay I downloaded N7000XXLQ2_N7000XEULP4_XEU... even though my ROM is LRB, would this work? As LP4 was the first U.K ROM there is? The first LRB ROM was German and I can't see an LRB ROM from the U.K there? Or does anyone have any suggested ROMs for me to flash?
As a temporary fix I switched to Swype, then downloaded JB keyboard from the Play Store, but ideally would like to have this sorted.
Thanks again

What if it bricks my phone? Then what can I do about it?

Swyped From My Juicy Flavoured AOKP JB.
So even though I'm in the u.k any rom will work no matter if it says a different country and has a different name

Root current and backup efs on multiple locations, note down original csc. That way you can always go back to original situation, plus you have a fallback in case efs gets corrupted from flashing different kinds of csc roms
Most dont say this, but it is the most valuable advice if you dont want to loose imei, service, warrantee, ota/kies updatability (when back on original csc roms), value when selling phone, etc

Was a question.
Will my note n7000 work with any n7000 ROM despite it being a different country and a different set of letters?

Hi there,
My best bet on the stock ROM your gonna use would be this one - > N7000XXLRK---4.0.4/12.07.24-N7000XEULP5, look and download it from here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 (courtesy of Doc Ketan)
There's instructions on that thread as well on how to flash the ROM.
EDIT: On the setup stage (after you've flash it), you will be prompted on which Language your going to use, Look for English (United Kingdom) and follow the steps from there (clicking 'Next' from thereon)
Thank you very much I will try this when I'm at my dads in an hour or so. I'll also thank your post

I would like to do it with my Captivate Glide too, which isn't supported by that tool. Would simple c&p work then?

Galaxy Note Getting Intolerable !!!

I am on latest stock indian jellybean rom, unrooted. My Note has become extreeemely sluggish and it takes ages to open apps. For example, if I am listening to a song, and I try to tag it with shazam or sound hound, they take ages to open and by the time the song has already finished. Secondly, when my friends ask me to click a pic of theirs at any moment, it feels very bad that the camera takes ages to open.
I want to know, if I root the device, and use the greenify app to freeze unwanted system apps, can my phone become reasonably alright. Also if I want to root without flashing any kernal or roms, is it possible. PLease help !!!
I think you should smash you Galaxy Note.
I don't know what a "Kernal" is but if you want to stay stock why dont you just reset factory settings from the phone setting, it will be as good as it was when you bought it.

Install clean master from play store, clean excessive junk and try.

Sorry , but I think you should just flash it to AOSP roms . I experienced what you are currently having right now the sluggishness , it's all Samsung's part to blame , they ruined the Jelly Bean for the Note 1 , I can confirm that ICS was running way smoother than JB too!
Even tried Custom TW rom with JB , still the same laggyness , opening the Gallery app would take a long time compared to other roms. So my advice is to just ditch TouchWiz Jelly Bean for the note 1.
The answer to your problem is simple. Install sweet ROM version 10 with c.o.h kernel and greenify. Then install nova launcher if you want a butter smooth ui. My phone runs like lightning...has great battery life as well. Stock Samsung roms run like crap as they want you to buy a new phone.
Slim Bean 2.0 is your friend. Android 4.3.

ICS is the only way to go for smoothness. I use 4.0.4 LRK
Sent from my GT-N7000
Use ics if you want stock experience as well as smoothness. Stock Jelly bean for note is total crap. And yes, use a different launcher if you want to preserve 100 mb RAM.

I went for P.A.C. running 4.3.1, and it's a world of a difference! Battery is great, performance is great, and has so many features that it's so much fun to customize.
I do prefer stock, but ICS has that scary bug that can brick your phone and JB for the Note is like a sewer. Thankfully my company is giving me a S4 Mini in the next few days...
The phone is easy enough to root - two files in the main int. memory directory if I remember correctly, and boot into the normal recovery mode to install them.
CM10.2 ran very well for me. Stable, better battery life, more responsive (for a two year old phone anyhow).
I'm currently on PAC as well because I like the extra options, but the cost of these new toys does seem to be minor stability issues, although that could be in part due to the number of memory intensive apps I tend to have running.
Does the exynos hack root app by chainfire work now or not?

No. On the newer jb kernels the exploit has been plugged.

Custom roms based on tw will be able to run it, not CM or AOSP.

And can my note get better on stock rom with root and unwanted apps frozen with greenify, also now what is the best way to root without installing any custom kernel or rom?

Instead of freezing them, just uninstall using tb so will free some space in the system partition. Use the supersu.zip file to root. File can be found in many rooting tutorials in the forum.
