(Q) best kenel for stock ics? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have downgraded back to german ics 4.0.4 .. it's already rooted .. i was thinking of flashing a better safe kernel!
i need a good battery life and better performance one do u recommend any?
Sent from my GT-N7000

Speedmod kernel.
Very stable.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

what bout hydracore?
Sent from N7000 at the corner of this rounded earth ♥

See.you need battery and stability.hydracore ain bad but acc to me sucks battery.in my case speedmod is awesome.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

PhilZ stock kernels are perfect combination for stock 4.0.4 , I use stock germany XXLRT rom and of course a PhilZ XXLRT kernel. It is perfect, not a single issue in about month of using, perfectly smooth and stable. This kernel is in a perfect middle of speedmod and hydracore. I try speedmod and it is a bit laggy for me, a hydracore is good but not battery friendly, so for now and on i recommend PhilZ because its stock, smooth, with very good battery life, and it is a brickbug free
Hope I helped!
Cheers!

Use the stock one. philz kernel. what can be better than that.

thanks guys .. can i directly flash phillz kernel over my speedmod?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

yes. either with CWM using zip file or with mobile Odin using a tar file

i just did , thanks .. though the kernel doesnt say its philz it says n7000 xxlrk 8f something
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

yes cuz its pure stock kernel with emmc erase command disabled, and modified cwm. no need to worry

thanks again one more question .. i have a blackcna jelly bean custom rom .. can i just restore it when i want to? and backup this too
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

if its as a nandroid backup yes u can.
And use the thanks button Sir instead or writing it

hahaha okay.. how do i know if its a nandroid or not ? sorry
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

Hehehe....nandroid backup is made by using cwm recovery.ok.
So if you used recovery advance option to backup ur rom plus files then that is called nandroid.
And why are you so hesitating in hitting thanks.are we demanding money?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

hahahaa i did .. its just that xda app i guess ..
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

if phillz kernel is just stock with emmc erase command disabled, how can it be any better to the battery life?

quoting dr.ketan http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31914373&postcount=6 :
Battery management/performance will same as on stock kernel.
Again input battery statistics or comparing with other custom kernel having no meaning. B'coz this is stock kernel and it will be same as stock kernel, no more no less. So kindly avoid such kind of discuss. Right now Phill have not indicate to add tweak to kernel, so no meaning to put request for under/overclocking and so and so. For this you always have choice for custom kernel, there are already nice custom kernels are available on development section. This is only for people want pure stock kernel but patched brick bug with added recovery function. That's it.

its not.. its just the same as the stock kernel.. no customizations like undervolt or overclock

By flashing a safe kernel like Goku, Speedmod or Notecore for your stock TW ICS you'll get a safe cwm...it is up to you which one you prefer, just try them out...
As I know Speedmod is very stable (no oc/uv but battery friendly), Goku is undervolted/not oc'ed (don't know the voltage table) with a 100MHz frequency, but it makes no sence 'cause 100MHz use the same voltage as 200MHz...and finally there is Notecore with an eye more on performance than battery life (but it is good as well regarding battery)...if you decide for Notecore, flash the STD-version first (not every Note can handle the oc'ed version).
To switch from TW ROM to CM9/CM10 it is recommended to go back to GB via PC Odin to do a fullwipe from there to safely switch over to CM9/CM10. Other's only flash Abyss (a GB-kernel) without going back to GB to do the full wipe, but I read something about that there COULD be some problems at the end...you'd NEVER flash CM9/CM10 directly from TW ICS stock or custom ROM!!!
Ok, so happy flashing for you
thanks for your rich info advices bro, a few questions.
1. custom kernel will render from official ota updates?
2. will mess up my current app, data? like notecore will reverse sd n ext sd
3. needs to restore backup after flashing?

1.-> I don't think that OTA is possible for rooted devices, but via Kies (yes, this buggy software) you'll get official updates if rooted I've read...I always flash my FW via Mobile Odin. You can get the stock FW's on sammobile f.e.!
2.-> No, Notecore overwrites only the stock kernel...your apps'n'data should be safe! The built-in CWM of Notecore kernel shows the correct paths for internal and external sd!
3.-> Before flashing anything you'd allways backup your apps with TB f.e.! And before flashing the kernel, you'd wipe cache/dalvik cache (not DATA!) or use the jbroid kernel cleaning script (this wipes cache, dalvik and fragments of old kernel for a clean flash)! After a kernel flash there is no need for a restore backup if all went as it should.
When on Speedmod, Goku or Notecore you can also do a nandroid backup before flashing any other kernel (I allways do).
And just to clear things before you'll try to flash...You have a rooted device already???
ok thank you :thumbup:that clears my doubts, yes im already rooted with mobile odin but no cwm injected well m ready to try out..

If you want to use Hydracore Kernel, please check with the developer first whether this is a safe / unsafe kernel (in case you want to do full wipe on your phone).
I just read 1 case saying the phone brick when wiping use the Hydracore v2 kernel.
Pls check with the developer first.

I don't want to dampen your expectation but don't let your hopes soar high. Every Custom ROMS I know has their own bugs and kinks to be worked out on the next updates again. That's why there are always updates release on every custom ROMS out there.
+1 Cleanote ROM + HydraCore Kernel = Awesome !
The safest kernel available for the note !

Cassie's xtralite room. Most stable, most speed, less bugs, best deep sleep despite being a gb rom.
after flashing many original development roms, I'm back to xtralite rom and I'm not planning to flash another for quite awhile.
it's not the latest and greatest but hey, you asked. Peace out.
Alliance Rom! You just need to go into Android Develeopement thread and see which is the most popular one
I was on Alliance ICS Final for a long time and this is the most stable and absoultely smoothest rom , but it is ICS, you may try if you like...
Now I am switched to Alliance XXLSC, requires the installation of some fix over the Rom customizer, but worth the effort. I just installed 240dpi mod and a few others with nova launcher and it is amazing... contains everything you requested in your first post
EDIT: you know that the stock ICS kernel is not safe for wiping? be sure that first thing you need to do is flash a safe kernel if you are on ICS (from stock recovery it is best to flash PhilZ kernel first, then you can continue to rock )
the best is Stock official rom preinstalled on your NOTE.

oh...if this rom is what you want, you should buy a Note 2 instead of flashing a jellybean daily driver for Note 1. I'll be flashing a multiview rom soon but I don't expect to be on it for very long.
stability is what I want too.

Help noob

I have stock ICS 4.0.4 rom and I want to root
my Note and flash to Cyanogen ROM or paranoid rom.
1 question: Will I be able to flash using Philz Cwm6 Kernel, or should I use other Kernel?
2. Does a stock ICS rom is a peoblem flashing to Jelly Bean Cyanogen or is the kernel which is important for flashing?
P.S Sorry if I wrote something because I'm still noob on phone modding.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
just go to install a safe kernal here for ur ICS4.0.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
my advise is do a backup using the safe kernal b4 flashing any roms it might help u in case something when wrong.
if u really don't know how to flash CM u can go find a rom manager it might be the easiest way for noob.
Flashing cm requires first flashing a cm 10 or 10.1 kernel, have a look in chasmodo's kernel repository in the stickies somewhere for cm based kernels.
Doesn't matter what rom you're on, you're right it's the kernel that's the important part.
Also if flashing cm base, make sure you perform full wipes before and after flash for best stability.

Philz has fixed th error 7 on the 3.99 release. So you can go ahead and do the formats and flash the cm rom. There is actually no need to flash the th cm kernel first.

[Q] Safest-best- kernel+rom for note gt-n7000?

Hello. i want to sure not to mess with my father's not rooted galaxy note gt-n7000 so my questoin maybe lame but i had a bad experience rooting gs2 and without
i need to know what is the best and the safest kernel for the note. and best custom rom 4.1.2 based on touchwiz
i alredy downloaded Kernel_CM10.1_20130320_n7000_CWM.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789397 this will work fine ?
Thank you
If you flash that kernel you will have boot loop for sure that is a cm10.1 ROM kernel not touchwiz. And you have to be rooted to flash. I don't mess with toichwiz to much I use a cm10.1 ROM I build my self and theme my self but in the terms of kernels for touchwiz look into philz kernels they are safe and I do believe they can be flashed from stock recovery and will root the phone. As for ROMs they are all safe. JUST DONT FLASH ANY ROMS FROM STOCK ICS KERNELS. and also if you look into the how to root part of the ROM forum you will find a lot of info. Then just research the different ROMs to see which one is right for your use.
