[APP][BETA] Bookviser 2 ebook reader - Windows Phone 7 Apps and Games

Hey,
I've prepared a new version of Bookviser. If you want to test it, please email me your Live ID associated with your Windows Phone device, I will add you to the beta testers list and send you the Marketplace download link. My email is [email protected].
What's new:
1) Lock screen prevention. When ON this will prevent your screen from dimming and locking when you read.
2) Page transitions can be selected separately for Portrait and Landscape mode. Tap zones are bound to transitions.
3) Bookviser now displays images and has a limited formatting support.
4) You can read in Portrait or Landscape mode. The screen either can be locked or can rotate automatically.
5) A slider has been added to jump between different book locations.
Thank you.
Alex

Already the best reader I've ever seen...this is the icing on the cake! I'd love to test.

saniotchak74, Bookviser is useless to me, at least until you'll add OPDS support. IMHO, reader without OPDS support is obsolete.
Do you have any plans to support OPDS? If "yes" could we discuss implementation details here?

"useless"? That's pretty harsh!

Nope, just a "naked truth". It's basic functionality to me.

Great reader - having landscape is great and images are a welcome feature SkyDrive sync is perfect, feedbooks and browser loading flawless. Quick settings have just the right features and main settings allow full customisation

Yes, of course, the OPDS support is coming. And sure, let's discuss it. I haven't touched to it just yet.

[APP] Moxier Mail

I don't think there is an existing thread on the subject, and I just came across a fantastic tablet-optimized replacement for the native email client. Moxier Mail is far prettier than the native client, has support for Exchange TASK synchronization, allows you to flag items complete (not just "star" or "unstar" them), access your mail folders via their actual tree structure, and turn on synchronization for any number of folders (not just your inbox).
Unfortunately, its widgets are neither re-sizable nor terribly attractive (IMO), but I think that is a small price to pay for the other functionality it adds.
Definitely a good looking app. I am going to give it a try. One big feature I am looking for is the ability to actually turn off the account temporarily. For example, if I setup my work/corp email on there, and I go on vacation, I don't want my xoom beeping all day lol.
But definitely nice find. Thanks!

There's actually a toggle switch in the app (looks like a light switch) that flips auto-synchronization on and off. It's in the bottom-right corner of the main dashboard screen.

Double thumbs up ;D
Just installed it, going to give it a go. I also just noticed that it works for Phones as well. I am going to give it a shot on my EVO. (Not a fan of Touchdown). So this could be a nice alternative.

I actually use Enhanced Email on my phone. It is a slightly tweaked version of the native client that gives me most of the above features in a clean and simple interface. (Touchdown is just SO ugly.) Let me know how Moxier looks... I might switch if it transitions well from the tablet to the phone.
Thanks. I will try this out.

I use EE too. Mostly because the server security protocols / device admin rights can be tweaked by user. The remote wipe security option is optional on EE. Trying Moxier today and the interface is pretty cool and it seems to avoid defaulting Exchange admin rights to wipe device. Anyone with knowledge or skills about this able to confirm this?
Fyi: Decent widgets.

It's a bloody beautiful app, no two ways about it. Highly recommended. Tried everything, ended up buying this one. For tasks support mostly. Veruy polished and stable. Can turn emails to tasks and calendar. Nice widgets.
I almost purchased Moxier Mail Tablet version until I discovered that there's an issue with attachments download in the current version. Link to the support thread for this issue below :
http://support.moxier.com/entries/20186321
I noticed there is no RSA security support. Is there any word if support is coming? My wife's work is predominantly email based, and she would love this for work, but they're RSA secured.
I've got another one for you guys- Kaiten Mail - It's like K9 reall but slightly adapted and works brilliantly with gmail-type interface
Moxier (tablet) downloads attachments without any problem for me, from Hotmail to 1 device and Exchange to another. Does it nicely also, since the interface is pretty intuitive.
Confirmed...no issues downloading, opening/reading, and sending attachments with Exchange.

Can someone tell me how it works with folders for exchange account.
I have loads of folders for server side automatic rules and moving. My problem is I have a few sub sub folders with the same name. The every all so far has issues with this. The I want to see how many unread emails per folder rather than just unread.
Also there seems to be a couple of versions which one is the best?

[APP][BETA] Bookviser - ebook reader

Hi,
I published a BETA of my new ebook reader, Bookviser. If you want to test it, please email me your Live ID associated with your Windows Phone 7 device, I will add you to the beta testers list and send you the Marketplace download link. My email is [email protected]
Bookviser can read EPUB, FB2 and TXT files. You can download books using incorporated Feedbook search or upload books from your computer.
Thank you.
Alex
Ebook readers without OPDS support are nonsense today. Also, you don't support hyphenation (especially for Russian), don't you?
New ebook reader app may have some sense, if you (at least!) implement all functionality of Jim Chapman's "Freda" ebook reader...

Thank you for your comment . Honestly I did not think about OPDS support, but will add it for sure.
As to hyphenation, it was planned and will be added in new versions as well. This is only the beginning. I just decided to publish a version with basic features first and then add new one by one.
If there is dropbox support, that's enough for me.
UI looks way better than freda.
Also, single book pinning to start screen is a must.
Just used the app for some time. UI is smooth and beautiful. Page transition is smooth too.

What about navigation and font sizes ?
help
I am trying to use bookviser and even downloaded the sync tool, there is no confirmation it is uploaded, can't view online library. And it appears to be available to download on my device but then it errors out am I doing something wrong, epub is about 170mb

The font sizes are going from 25 to 40, but I will add smaller sizes by the time of release.
What do you mean by navigation?
Loving this app, just what I needed.
The "goto page" is great, nice interface, smooth page flip. Once you get the skydrive support working (or do folders/management of Bookviser account storage) this thing will be top shelf!
Looking good! Serious alternative to Freda and Raccoon. But please add DropBox support! All my books are there.
I think there's a bug somewhere. When I try to open a book in epub, downloaded from net, 1.74 mb of space, the app crashes. And also, a dropbox support would be great. In rest, if dropbox will be added, I will uninstall FREDA and never even try other ebook reader. Cross my heart. Cheers and great work

Well I hope you'd at least take a look at the new Freda update (2.5) and send me feedback about how you'd like it to be improved
still needs settings for line spacing to be usable

good google reader app?

Hi, I have rooted nook touch and now want to find a handy google reader app.
I have tried the following apps:
newsrob: This is the app that is closest to what I want except that the cons is unacceptable.
pros: font is large and clear. plenty of configurable functions (sync, display, etc.)
cons: no on screen pagedown/up button and the page scroll is very unresponsive. Often need
4 - 5 times try for a scroll.
greader pro:
pros: plenty of configurable functions (sync, display, etc.), screen zoom in/out
cons: font is dim. no on screen pagedown/up button and the page scroll is unresponsive, a bit better than newsrob?
easyrss:
could not remember clearly the pros and cons. Still not handy though.
google reader website:
tried several browser but the font is small. page scroll is hard though.
I found that the biggest problem for google reader apps on nook touch is that
the page down/up is difficult.
I want an app or web browser solution that satisfies:
large/clear font
on screen pagedown/up button.
Thanks.
I went with newsrob because of the font size changes. I only tried a few others including google reader. I found the site http://fulltextrssfeed.com/ useful for getting the full article rss feed address instead of just the summary. It is nice way of gaining the full article to read when you are away from wifi.
I will stick with newsrob until I find something better.
do you have the problem of unresponsive page scroll?
I've been working with the dev to use the NST page up/down, so here it is. Note it does not sync with Google Reader, but it's easy enough to grab the OMPL file from the site and download it via dropbox/etc.
Enjoy
It's my favorite by far so far (for the NST). Note scrolling with the finger still has issues...seems to be a screen issue with our device. Hard keys are better anyways

I'm a bit confused. Is the apk you are offering modified to allow use of the hard-keys? Or are you just saying that you like this app even though it does not currently have hard-key compatibility but that you hope that hard-key use is forthcoming by this dev?
[update]
I downloaded the apk. Hard keys do not seem to be working.
[update 2]
I spoke too soon. Since I'm right handed I tend to only use the right side hard keys.
The left side hard keys work but, the right side hardkeys do not work. Left side's better than nothing!
I've been testing several google reader apps, and here is a quick comparison of the best ones I've found for the NST:
NewsRob
Pros:
- Works with side buttons (for both article and page switch).
Cons:
- Annoying article list bug: when you go back from article view, the article list is not at the same scrolling position it was before.
- Free version forces to sync all your google reader feeds.
- Font sizes are less than ideal.
SparseRSS
Pros:
- Simple and lightweight.
- ace7196's build have support for left side buttons.
- Free and open source.
Cons:
- Also have the article list bug.
- Doesn't sync with google reader and doesn't support folders.
GoodNews
Pros:
- Works with side buttons (sometimes needs pressing twice).
- Only app I've found that doesn't have the article list bug.
Cons:
- Offline sync doesn't download images and is quite slow.
- Interface is not very e-ink friendly (you can tweak the apk files, though. I removed most ugly color gradients)
For now, I am sticking with GoodNews and only missing offline images feature, but it is very nice anyway.
I use gReader, its contrast is not great, but can sync with google reader and can adjust font size

official google reader app?
I just got a nook touch and used official google reader app last night, that seems to be pretty good. Has font size settings and the text is very readable, not grayed out like some websites in the browser.
Page-like reading?
Hi, I've been following this post for a while. I love my NST but I would really like to have a RSS reader that allows me to read in a page-like format, scrolling with the e-ink screen sucks and google currents and feedly do offer a page-like reading experience (much closer to an e-book) but both require newer version of Android. I've tried every other application out there without much luck so if anyone has some suggestion I'd really appreciate it.

Hi,
I really would love to have Pulse News on the Nook and you can even install it. But probably due to the fact that it uses Flash for its animations, the app crashes right after the splash screen where I presume the Flash starts.
I noticed on my HTC that you can disable Flash in the Pulse-settings. Is it somehow possible to modify the settings without starting the app? Or maybe make an APK where Flash is disabled by default or something like that.
I have Pulse installed on mine, only that it's an older version of it that I download somewhere. Try some apk's, one for sure will work but the market version won't.
I still like SparseRSS the best, simple and fast.
Two issues:
-Frequently get "error: broken pipe" or "error: line 2.."
This probably happens to 1 out of every 10-20 feeds, so after the refresh is done, I have to individually refresh each one that returned an error.. a hassle.
-No folders - any plans for folders in the future? Hard to use when you follow 50 rss feeds

Not exactly an RSS aggregator solution for the NST, but you can use Calibre on your desktop to read RSS feeds and create an .epub from them. You can then set Calibre to email it to you, or create a dropbox script, or something similar on your desktop so you can retrieve the files remotely.
I'm doing this for several newspaper "subscriptions".
The big plus is that I can use the native B&N reader with all its associated features.
Newsrob has very small font. Is there a way how to make it larger?
Is it so small that you can't see it? Or is it as small as the smallest font for reader?
how to scroll down a article in sparse rss? I can't swipe and the side buttons neither work. thanks for a hint.
Runs now fine, sorry for spamming.
Has anyone tried rssdemon?
edit2: rssdemon is perfect for the nst!

the font used in the list of unread items is too small and probably cannot be changed. I can change the font while reading particular item but not the font used in the list.

I'm sorry, i should have mentioned this. It's completely based on IE
Everybody who couldn't install yet, try this:
1. copy the zune-link i sent you.
2. write a mail to yourself.
3. open it on your phone.
for the 12 folks that are already in i sent a mail to their live-inbox.
hope that solves the installation issue.
Installing got no problem.Try google you tube it's quite fast and manage toplay video without any problem. The only thing I must get used to the tab.Well so far there's not any bug yet .
When I make a new tab it seems I can't search when I type xda developers it says ERROR Invalid url.I think every tab that we make if possible make to the home page.

BETA tester
My response from BETA-testing. (Note: Even if you have posted some bugs I'll still fill my list with what I experience)
Phone: LG Optimus 7
Status: Works perfectly!
My current status: Stopped BETA testing.
Positive:
100% fullscreen
Customization!
Live tile with information about current session!!
Slide up the URL tab on fullscreen to get to normal view without fullscreen.
Fast web browser
Share page function (lovely!!)
It's now my official MAIN browser!
-
-
Things to maybe improve & suggestions:
First startpage is google.de, could have been google.com (but nothing special actually)
Maybe you could make your own videoplayer to play eg. youtube videos on, instead of using the phone's player (not required since the videoplayer of the phone is also good)
Also have the abillity to press the favorites url instead of only the visit button at the bottom. But keep it.
Maybe slide with 2 or 3 fingers down on the screen for entering/exiting fullscreen mode?
-
-
Negative and or Currently found bugs:
When entering fullscreen mode, it's hard to get back to regular. I had to tap like 5 times on the black button at the bottom left. (hard to use the button)
If the application opens without internet connection it will say ERROR, no network available. But it does say it when I change to other menus such as settings (keep spamming ERROR everywhere)
Theres no suggestion of websites when entering a url for eg. if you enter www.fa it could show up some suggestions like facebook or failblog.
-
I'll edit this post with more when I find
thanks for that wonderful feedback, so much inspiration
some response to the bugs:
- i'm currently working on the suggestionlist, shouldn't be that difficult.
- for the fullscreen-button i got a new solution, what should make it much
easier.
- the Network-check must be fixxed, thanks for your discovery.
@Ttblondey: search function is now included
I have given my review here and video review here.
Overall I found the app to be very nice and smooth. A good alternative for sure but there are few things you can look into except the bugs which is already reported.
1) One is integration with skydrive for syncing bookmarks etc.
2) More Gestures
3 ) Open up option for both Google and Bing as search engine.
4 ) cookie turn on and off.
Rest is all good, keep us rolled in beta.

I would like a "Search for text" function in the functions menu Would be awesome to be able to search for words on a page
And else I can say that I'm really happy with the browser, works well, and hopefully soon releasing? Because then you could like update with small minor updates incase something is needed
Happy New Year roqstr!
there's a search for text function ;O it's just not my own at the moment, a provisional solution,if you will
Yea, but i always find features that shouldn't be missing in the release-version, to make it working right
next week i'll be busy with school, shouldn't fail my exams
afterwards, i'd be able to release an open beta, just for some extra feedback
next step is fixing last issues and then i'll release ;P
if somebody do have experience with apphub, pubcenter & co, he can pm me to help me understanding
thanks, hope you all enjoyed New Year's Eve, i did ;P
Still waiting to test this thing
it looks nice, can't wait for release :O
I wrote a browser, based on IE its in my signature.
I'll be happy to test your browser and get better result to my and your app.
Biggest issue at the moment is the picture-viewer, but I hope I can handle this soon.
@sma6871: I'll test it and message you when I have questions or suggestions.
Unfortunately I forget to set trial mode, but now I send a trial mode enable update, and it will be up to date soon.
open beta out now. read 1st post!
Here is my feedback :
1.Dropdown to switch between search engines
2 Where did Advance Main Colour Gone ?
3. When I try yo change Main Colour Accent Colour it gives me sorry message "You Should not Overwrite the accent style"
4. Find Text Crashes the app
5. You can think of ignoring pics which are of very small size in the Picture view.
6. Picture viewer also picks up YouTube thumbnail as picture but does not display anything.

App is good
Comes in handy some times.
seems to work as described. thanks! great app!
Really handy bc at the hospital, they seem to be stuck in the fax era, so this is a nice way to get documents to people without having to find a fax machine
great app. very handy and easy to use.
thanks
Looks like a useful app!
What I didn't like in a quick check:
- I don't like the 3D carousel view, an option to have a simpler view would be useful.
- after the edges were marked it asked me to press OK, sometimes it takes very long to accept 'OK' (or process), sometimes doesn't respond to OK at all.
likes:
- good filters to improve resulting scans
- raw image is kept for later edit
It would be easier if I could zoom in the image to determine the edges. Btw its very handy, good job.
