Hum are you sure of this ? I think it was only for the phone rooted....
Gnote has an emmc bug which results in brick.
Hit thanks button please

Actually ics has an emmc bug and you are on unsafe kernel.
Flash a safe kernel like phillz.then you can do hardreset.

Download philz kernel as per yr region.
Flash through stock recovery.
Now yr completely safe to wipe or factory reset.
Then when u factory reset u can sell yr phone.
Still if u ve question yr phone is rooted.
Follow doctor ketan s thread of all stock rom.
Download n flash it via odin. Which is safe n u will get yr phone to factory condition.(os part )
N now off the topic.
Jus take a glimpse of update coming for note before u sell yr phone.

Good luck. hit thanks button if i ve helped u.

No. Not recommended. The ICS kernel has a bug that can leave your phone a brick. It is not advised you do anything in recovery once you're on stock kernel. But I think a soft reset (from settings) will clear all your data since you wanna sell it. I'm a newbie but I hope I've helped.
even from the settings doing a factory reset may trigger a brick. I have read it sum where in entropys thread

There's not such a thing like soft reset... Either if you factory reset from recovery or from settings if you are on ics stock kernel you might end up with a brick in your hands

Yeah, but that's a hard reset, a soft reset is just powering off and on, not erasing any data.

i dont know about phones but in networking
any reset done inside OS options is called a soft reset ( settings )
any reset done outside OS is called hard reset ( cwm )
power on/off is called power cycle

Agreed, but in the old days of pda's, there was no on off capacity, there was alternatives of combo keys for soft off, power cycle, or hard reset to perform a wipe of the data.

Thats better.
And as human concern after sale.
After sale i meant.
Inform the buyer regarding emmc brickbug on stock ics kernel.
Cos most of the seconds buyers usually they try to factory reset jus to wipe off previous users data fully.
Then note can b a nightmare for him.

He is stock and not rooted. Could that be the problem? That he didn't do a factory reset? Judging by the fact that he didn't ever root the device?

did you try his s-pen on another note?
don't have another note to try it on... will sugest going to an orange or vodafone for that
PS: he said after a software update it stopped working... could that be the issue... and be a coincidence the pen broke when he updated the soft.
PS2: dunno if the pen has anything inside that can break:-?
yeah..first of all be sure the s-pen still working good, maybe a coincidence but everything is possible
true ... i agree... will advise him to do that
Just try flashing a different stock rom/kernal. Its probably just a software issue (yes even though it's probably official due to updating from kies). They're all located in the development section

let say i forget my unlock pattern...

what can i do now?
what rom are you on? For following steps, use a rom with your original roms csc. If you dont know, to bad, just use any rom close to country you bought phone in.
if stock ics then go follow procedure in dr ketans thread in sticky section development to flash gb, and after factory reset from recovery.
If stock gb, then just factory reset from recovery.
get into recovery by power down device, turn on and immediately button volume up, home and power at same time. navigate in recovery with volume buttons and select with power button.

And Remember its just byepass the security temporarely. For a permanent treatment you should follow baz77 instructions I think. Sorry if im saying something wrong dr ketan. dunn mind. Just posting this for his knowledge.
Notes:
This application will also run each time the device is booted so you can always bypass the lock screen.
This application does not remove or reset your pattern/PIN, it only temporarily disables the lock screen so you can access your device and backup your data before resetting it.
To remove Screen Lock Bypass, open the application and click Uninstall.
@Sahil
If you aware there is pro version available to disable lock permanently
Now it depends on individual whether to pay 5$ for it or just take backup of application and go for Flashing and restoring.

Should be saft. Reas0n bricked his phone, but they changed the mainboard. So it's not clear if it was the factory reset or the faulty mainboard. I've done factory reset a few times, didn't brick anything.

I have a 4.1.2 android version of GT-N7100. I'm on an official rom. My phone is NOT rooted. Will a hard reset (by entering into a recovery mode, and factory reset) can brick my phone?
Is there any steps that i have to do before doing a hard reset?
I read a lot of threads and i get confused with myself about the SG-note being brickable.
EDIT: Okay nevermind. I will just patch a safe kernel and do a hard reset.
A factory reset will delete all user installed apps, and all settings will be returned to default.
Back up your internal sd card, phone and sms logs.

Not all phones get bricked when a full wipe is performed.
If you got lucky, and didn't bricked yours, you can't suppose it's safe and recommend it to everyone. That is just a plain stupid thing to do.
JB does have the emmc cap erase enabled, so it is NOT safe. Just look at the sources.
