lol yeah same price...and I got my 16gig model just last month as soon as they came to Germany. I got used to the 16gig model anyway..I have about 5.5 gigs free with a few movies on mine but i swap them out. 16gig is alright for me now. would have been nice if the 32gig model came out EARLIER! oh well

No reason to splinter the discussion now that a slightly more concrete piece of news has come out.
Please continue to use the existing thread for all things concerning the 32 GB model

3RD Batch of Production is there such a thing and how can we decrypt the S/N ?

Guys I wanted to ask after reading the forum for a while. Its seems like many of the initial Pre-orders suffered a majority of the defects. At least mine. 8GB from staples I purchased 2 days ago seems perfect (knock on wood) How can we tell if there are different "batches" or production runs. Some people are even reporting of Nexus 7's made by Samsung.
So whats the story?
Lola @ Nexus made by Samsung. People say anything they want to say
Nexus 7 is made by Asus and they would continue to make it. Don't you see the Asus branding on the box? It only say that it is made for Google Play and does not say made by Google. If Google want Samsung to make a tablet for them then it won't be Nexus 7.

I did see 8 gb version on their website the other day.

Staple's inventory

While checking local Staples inventory for a another 16GB I noticed that they've got the 8GB listed as in store only. They also show all local stores as having low stock and that it's a clearance item. Is Google phasing out the 8GB or maybe a revised model? Otherwise its just Staples being Staples. Seems to me the smart move would be to have 16 and 32 gig models ready for Xmas and drop the 8 gig. I wouldn't even consider an 8 gig Nexus 7.

Staples obviously knows something we don't at this point in time.
And I totally agree, the 8GB will have been to make it cheaper, and therefor get alot of the Nexus's on the market so the name is known.
Now they'll slowly ditch the 8GB as already said, and bring out the 32 GB model in time for Christmas = LOTS OF SALES/PROFIT

Doesn't seem like much of a clearance sale!!!
Sounds like the 32GB should be out around the 24th I believe and the leaked images have it at around the same price as the 16GB. So hopefully the 16GB goes down to $199 and the 32GB is $249.
I would have bought the 8GB if Walmart had it.
I don't use any local media so I would have been fine.
The staples around here never seem to have them in stock, yet I was surprised when I checked walmart, they had at least ten of each model.
I was crossed at the time but I figured rather pay more now than regret later having space issues.. though if they have a price drop when the rumored 32 comes out in late October, I'll be a little upset since I just got this about a week and a half ago.
If Google does drop the price on the 16GB I'd expect it not to come with a $25 credit to the Google Play Store.

Thats true, completely forgot about that. Though I'm not big on entertainment (books & video) and I'm already invested in the play app store, so I would personally prefer $25 off the device.

[Q] Who is holding off for the 32GB

We all have seen the news that a 32GB is coming and will be around for the holiday season, my brother works at Best Buy here in Canada and his inventory shows a 32GB as coming soon for $269 CAD so its defiantly coming.
Just wonder how many of you will hold off on the 16 now that the 32 will be out soon.

I don't think you'll get any "Yes I'll hold off" answers in this forum, as most of the people are here because they have a Nexus7
Would have liked a 32 GB but with OTG don't think its terribly necessary.
Since N7 isn't selling in my country (Brasil) i will have only 1 shot when a friend of mine visit NY next week. But i dont think 32GB will be available till desember.

After 3 failed RMAs from Google Play, I got a refund and just picked up a new Nexus 7 from Walmart last Friday. I'm thinking about returning my Nexus 7 16GB and waiting on the 32GB model.
Haven't decided, but will need to in the next few days.

Don't you know this by now, Ravynmagi... what works for 1 person works for everyone. Duh.
I however am doing just fine with 16GB for the most part. The biggest space issue I have is when I go on long trips (which is rare, but happens) and want to watch TV shows or movies to burn up the plane time. Fun fact - even with 64GB of space I'd run into the same issues. It's significantly easier for me to have a 500GB external (which has about 400GB worth of media) that I can pop in, copy media, disconnect, and be done with it. I'd likely use OTG in these situations regardless of what sized tablet I had. That said, these situations are rare, and 16GB is more than enough for me on the regular day to day.
I will say this. I find cloud services significantly easier to manage because everything is in one location. For me, Subsonic is such a win for music/videos because I host it out of my basement and I own the server, the material, etc. I handle it my way.
One centralized box for everything, especially on my own very LAN, is such a :good::good::good::good::good:. Couple that with the fact the same server is running "owncloud" (think Dropbox but on your own server) is yet another :good::good::good::good::good:.
But there again, just my 2c.
Are external storage (2,5“ HD) working with otg?

Im debating returning mine now since its still within the return window. Only problem is that mine is perfect hardware wise and i know asus products can sometimes be hit or miss. I really enjoy using the nexus 7 even more than i thought i would and have grown attached to my device.

it may not be official but we know its coming and the fact my brothers bestbuy inventory shows it plus other stores with a price tag but no date means its coming. I'm sure it will be released for the holiday season, stupid if they don't.
I have a 16GB S3 and i can tell you that is not enough and had to buy a 32GB microSD. I don't like the whole cloud storage thing what if i'm on the go an have no internet access. OTG is fine but its not very portable. I mean if we had a proper micro usb to micro sd then 16GB would be fine, hopefully the kickstart project in the OTG thread kicks off.

I got my Nexus 7 yesterday from newwegg and I didn't get the 25$ credit. I don't know if it may be related to my location - I live in Europe but I am visiting US now. Even if I try to access redeem codes from google wallet, I get the message "Gift Cards are not available in your location.". Anyone knows how to tell google that my location is now USA?
EDIT: Sorry for little off-topic - I found an answer to my question, in case someone is interested, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838710
the thing that stands out in my mind
The way these companies justify their pricing is hilarious... one quote in the article states
Right now, Google only offers the Nexus 7 in two sizes, 8GB and 16GB. 8GB is an extremely small amount of space but it enables Google to sell the device extremely cheap at $199.
Click to collapse
Just seems rediculous for anyone to believe that 8GB more storage would cost $50 ... and with the cost of memory per GB nowadays it would be a no brainer to up it to 64GB and 96GB just to stomp out the competition...
I guess Google was thinking this would be a more wireless cloud based device but consumers are showing that we don't wanna go that way ... would make sense to meet the demand and just flip everybody out with memory numbers that are huge.... cheap way to set this tablet apart from the rest (besides the other things it's already got going)
Got my 16gb n7 a few weeks ago for £180 UK pounds + £15 store credit + Transformers movie. Otg cable gives me unlimited storage if I need it.
I don't think I would be able to get the 32gb model for this price when it comes out, so I am not worried.

Actually, I remember reading an article about this pricing that said the 8gb didn't provide any real room for profit and the 16gb version is more so that resellers could actually make money on the device.
At first this seemed true as I couldn't find a reseller that even sold the 8gb, but now most seem to, so perhaps the build cost went down.
As for a 32gb coming out for the same price as the 16gb now...I doubt it. This thing hasn't even been out for a year. As for the 8gb going to $99...no way. Not unless Google is doing a fire sale and dumping Android like HP with WebOS.
More realistic would be something like $279/229/179 pricing for 32/16/8gb versions...

Yes, we all have the same feeling, the Nexus 7 is a fine piece of hardware and it was indeed worth every penny I paid for it, I'm too grown up to care what other people pay for theirs..
I just wish I had known there was a 32gb coming considering I bought my N7 a month ago. I need more space than 13gb of usable memory, that's like 5 hd games.
I think this is part of the reason behind the Google Play $25 credit honestly, so really I only paid $225

-Brought to you by Marino's Galaxy Nexus-
What bothers me is that the resell value was slashed. I mean if you bought a 16gb for $250+tax, you could probably resell it for $225 on top of all of initial offerings we've gotten from Google. Now it is $199, you'd be lucky to get $175 for it. Plus with the upgraded memory people aren't going to want the 16gb so you'll have to practically give it away.
Oh well. Life is full of surprises. They should have just came out with a 16/32gb unit out of the gate and stop screwing around with 8gb. Memory is so cheap now-a-days that it is pathetic that we allow manufactures keep us in this rut. I mean I had 16gb CF in my old Dell x51v Windows 5.0 "palmtop" haha. Honestly units SHOULD be coming in as 32/64gb these days... or even 64/128gb.
Media consumption is getting deeper and deeper. With games using 4gb each, 8/16gb just don't cut it without sacrifice.
Full agree on that post. But ive learned my lesson, i will wait at least till Christmas to get a Nexus 4 and closely watch the rumors.

Welcome to the world of consumer electronics. It is a game that is impossible to win. There will always be better devices and lower prices right around the corner.

I will second that. I do not regret paying full price for mine. That's always the price you pay for buying tech. It gets cheaper and specs always improve. Give it a few more months and there will be something better and cheaper on the market, that I have no doubt.

ive got a 16gb one and have all my music and books in the cloud,im from uk its not only usa who get cloud ,overall im happy with what ive got and hardly touch my s2(32gb) anymore apart from calls and im due an s3 mid november that will be wasted in my pocket
im stuck
I sold my 16gb nexus 7 to my roommate because 16gb was to small for me and i want to buy the 32 gb version
But i also want the nexus 10 or the new chrome book as a replacement for my Transformer prime
the Transformer prime is ok especially for what i do (I use it for school/occasionally web surfing) but it has no real upside. it still lags, and slows down for no reason.
Anyone have any ideas what should i do?
Im thinking nexus 7 and probably the chromebook, its got the same processor and ram.
I'm being philosophical about this.
I bought the 16GB version three months ago so I've certainly had my money's worth.
Wife seems disinterested in having my N7 to make way for a 32GB upgrade and then Google announces the N4 16GB and I need to upgrade from my HD2 anyway.
Wife needs to upgrade her phone, too, so she can have the HD2.
My N7 still has about 6GB free space and that's with a lot of apps and stuff which would usually be on my phone.
Once I've bought the N4 and moved a lot of apps and stuff over to that there will be sufficient room on the N7 for my needs.
Plus there's still OTG and Drop Box ... Or VPN to my own local server ..
