New Stuff Preview:
(14 May 2010)
Mobile Shell Manager 4.08:
- Optimized activation and deactivation scripts: no more waiting for list reload after activating/deactivating a widget!
- New functions set: create/edit/delete changing pic widget.
The changing pic is a special widget to which users can assign a “pictures set” and it will automatically change picture at set intervals: daily, weekly, monthly… user’s choice as well as at what time the change will take place (please note that Mobile Shell will be automatically restarted for the picture change to take effect, so it’s advisable to choose an update time when the phone is likely not in use).
Users can create as many changing pictures widgets as they want, assigning them to different pictures sets and sizes to enhance screen customization possibilities.
Once created, changing picture widgets will be available as skins for a “current date” object, much like the backing panels.
Pictures sets will be released like widgets libraries, plus users can easily create their own ones following the tutorial written by Jotha (attached to this post, just scroll to the bottom)
Changing Pics Pic Sets:
- Animals (courtesy of Jotha, includes Small and Medium Square, Small and Medium Portrait, Small and Medium Landscape layouts)
- Cars (courtesy of Jotha, includes Small and Medium Square, Small and Medium Landscape layouts)
- Nature (courtesy of Jotha, includes Small and Medium Square, Small and Medium Landscape layouts)
(The images in the abovementioned Pic Sets are taken from the web and should be public domain, should anyone know differently pls report it in the thread and the related pics will be removed)

What is Vostradamus Mobile Shell Manager?
Vostradamus Mobile Shell Manager is a serie of scripts to handle all my mods and widgets, keeping them comfortably on the storage card and “activating” them inside Mobile Shell only when you need them.
Please note that the widgets will use device memory ONLY when activated, otherwise they’ll be simply stored on the memory card.
This new way of managing my widgets is better than the previous one for several reasons:
- No more countless entries in the “uninstall programs” window
- Comfortable interface to activate/deactivate any widget, any time
- Possibility to activate widgets on single basis: for example you can activate just the red digital clock Cats if you want it, you don’t have to install the whole color package including the colors you don’t need….
- Optimized usage of device memory (see previous point)
PLEASE NOTE:
If you have any of my widgets version 2.xx, please do the following before installing the Widget Manager:
- Uninstall all my 2.xx widgets
- Uninstall my Tools package too if you have it
- Delete the registry key “HKLM\Software\Spb Software House\Shared\Spb Menu\WidgetPackages\Spb.WidgetsZioGian”
How to install:
For the first install, you will need to download:
- Vostradamus Mobile Shell Manager
- Vostradamus Base Widgets Library (qvga or vga according to your device)
- (suggested but not required) Preview Images Library
- (suggested but not required) Additional Widgets Libraries, as many as you want
- Vostradamus XML Definition file
Now, how to proceed:
- Install Vostradamus Mobile Shell Manager NOT ON DEVICE MEMORY. Just choose to install it on memory card or any additional memory your device has (that's because the Widgets Manager itself is not large, but the Widgets Libraries will be)
- Extract all the widgets library you downloaded anywhere on your device (but keep them all in the same folder)
- Extract the XML definition file in Widgets Manager folder
- Run Vostradamus Mobile Shell Manager
- Choose the "XML update" option from inside "Libraries" menu
- Wait for it to be done
- Choose the "Import Library Folder" option from inside "Libraries" menu
- Select the folder where you stored all the downloaded widgets libraries previously extracted
- Wait for it to be done (it may take a while, according to the number of libraries and their contents)
- Done! Now you can activate all the widgets you want (using the appropriate option)
(Of course I tested the software before releasing it, yet it's still possible that I could have missed some (minor?) bugs here and there, please bear with me and, in case you notice something odd, report it in this thread)
Any future widgets release will only include:
- Widgets Library Package with only the new additions
- Updated XML Definition File
so there will be no need to redownload everything all the times.

Widgets Creation Tutorial
Hans Heigenhauser (Jotha on Xda) kindly prepared a detailed tutorial which will guide you through the steps needed to create a new Widget Skin to be used with Mobile Shell Manager.
The guide is about a Status Widget skin, but the steps are basically the same for the other widgets too
You can find the guide attached to this post (scroll to the bottom)
-----------------
Small guide for "Flash Junkies"
- Before flashing, make a backup copy of the "widgets" folder (it's inside Mobile SHell Manager main folder)
- After flashing (and reinstalling mobile shell of course) do the following
-- Reinstall Mobile Shell Manager
-- Reupdate the XML Definition file
-- Restore the backed up Widgets folder inside Mobile Shell Manager
Done, all the widgets libraries you had before flashing are back there in their place

Thanks!!
Since when I first installed Mobile Shell 3 I wondered why the guys at Spb didn't give us the chance to change the font color... there are a lot of great backgrounds out there, but we need different font colors in order to use the light colored ones, otherwise all the texts would be unreadable.
I was hoping for them to release a patch for this with MS3.5, but they didn't so I thought "Oh well, I'll stop being lazy and I'll do it myself"
Glad to see that I'm being useful for someone else too
Released Ver 1.51, see first post for updates
Enjoy!
Looks fine .....
Does it works for VGA ?

Some of the mods could, surely not all of them, and they're not tested/ready for vga yet.
I plan to prepare a vga/wvga package too sooner or later, but I can't exactly say when yet (hopefully it won't take me too long though)
(W)VGA Finally!
Released version 1.52, this time for (W)VGA too!!!
Check first post for changes.
(W)VGA version has to be tested, I converted my mods for (w)vga devices, but not having one at hand I can't test it.
Anyone willing to try it pls report in this thread if it's working correctly.
Enjoy!
great job Man !!!

Reg Entries
I have imported registry entries before and use either Dot Fred or Total Commander, but how does one apply the .reg entries in the zip file? Thanks for the help!

Of course you have to extract them from the zip before applying them
You can use whatever import method you're most used to... personally, I like to use CeRegEditor, it's a nice free software that allows you to work on your device registry remotely from your pc while it's connected through activesync (or mobile device center on Vista).
If you want to give it a try, here's the link: http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/ but any other method can be ok too
Just curious: you said you've used Total Commander... how do you import .reg files with it? I love total commander, but I really couldn't find how to do it, if not editing the registry manually, but that's kind of uncomfortable for large edits

Thanks for this...the software helped. But to import using Total Commander, you simply copy the file(s) into the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in the registry. I think I figured out why this didn't work using TC or Dot Fred -- the reg files were written for a PC which is why they weren't recognized (at least that was the message I got when I used the software you recommended above).

Uhm, that may be the case, dunno for sure 'cause I always use CeRegEditor and ignoring that message (I got it too) everything works fine every time
Colored fonts!
Thank you...this is great having colored icons to match the appropriate light or dark-colored wallpaper!!!

To change skin colors, simply edit your current layout, then go into the Time widget (for example), then choose change skin...you should have a much larger selection.

[Tutorial][Themes][3-Jul-2010]Themes for SleepSense

Tutorial Skinning SleepSense
Application: SleepSense
What do you need?
The only thing you need is an image-editor to edit the images
A xml editor to change the colors of the menu, borders, chart or other controls Step by step:
the original theme files
Step by step
Download the original default folder
Open the files in this folder in your image editor
Remake the images
Save the images (of course)
Edit theme.xml to change the colors of the menu, borders, chart or other controls
Create a new Theme folder: [Your theme name] Theme
Copy the edited images to your device in the folder [SleepSense installation dir]\Themes\ [Your theme name]Theme
Go to the alarm and select you own theme.
List of images in the \Themes\ folder
Bkg_Clock.jpg
Background of the sleep screen
Bkg_Default.jpg
Background of the menu
Bkg_Item1.png
The first item in the list
Bkg_Item2.png
The second/other item(s) of the list
Bkg_ItemS.png

Icon_Dummy.png
Don’t touch it
To make it compatible with the 200*480/320 screen resolution add _240x400 or _240x320 after the image name
Edit theme.xml
You can edit the xml to change the colors of the fonts, borders etc.
You can change a lot using the XML, but it’s pretty hard to understand (for a noob)
Forecolor is the color of font, Backcolor the achtergrond, other colors are gradients to the backcolor
<ImageFile1>XXXXXXXXX.png</ImageFile1>
contains the imagefile that is used that control
Code:
…="Icon_XXXXX"><ImageFile1>Icon_XXXX.png</ImageFile1>…
…="Bkg_Default"><ImageFile1>Bkg_Default.jpg</ImageFile1>…
<BackColor>XXXXXX</BackColor>
The background color of the control
Code:
… "Img_Chart"><BackColor>D3D3D3</BackColor>…
…="LeftBox_Chart"><BackColor>102C52</BackColor>…
<BorderColor>000000</BorderColor>
Color of the border
Code:
..lor><BorderColor>000000</BorderColor><Font>T…
…olor><BorderColor>000000</BorderColor><F…
<Font>[Font], [Size], [Formatting]</Font>
Font of the control
[Font] Font name
[Size] Size of the font
[Formatting] The formatting of the font (bold etc.)
Code:
…lor><Font>Tahoma, 5, Bold</Font>…
…r><Font>Tahoma, 8, Regular</Font><Fore…
<ForeColor>XXXXXX</ForeColor >
Code:
…nt><ForeColor>D3D3D3</ForeColor><Opac…
…nt><ForeColor>808080</ForeColor></Con…
These sections represent the topbuttons, main surrounding panel of the home menu, panel with for example the instructions, Clock colors, date colors, etc.
In the Beta these values can change. Best thing to do is to change is color to white FFFFFF, save the file and start SleepSense
<Opacity>XXX</Opacity>
Definite the opacity of the control, From 255 to 0, which is transparent
Code:
…r><Opacity>125</Opacity><Ba…
…Color><Opacity>80</Opacity><Ba…
Note: all colors must be in HTML color codes (like FFFFFF or 708090)
How to release your theme officially
If you want to publish you personal theme send it to [email protected] in a zip file. We will check your theme and give, where necessary, advice and update this topic with your theme
Any way of advertising through a theme is forbidden.
When your theme is checked by the SleepSense team, we will add it to this topic.
While choosing a new theme in SleepSense the user will have the option to choose from these themes in this topic too. The selected theme is downloaded, unzipped into the Themes folder and ready for use.
Why?
We decided to check themes to improve the quality of the themes. It has also benefits for the developer:
*He will get useful advices
*His theme will be showed in the theme showcase of this thread
*His theme will be included with SleepSense
What must I send?
The theme folder with the images
At least 3 screenshot
(Optional) a cab installer

[MIUI][HOWTO+REQUEST] Create ICONS for Vexillum Project [ICONS DEV SUBSCRIBE]

Hello everyone!
I've decided to start a new thread here, in the Android Themes forum, to teach you how to create your own icons missing in the biggest icons pack ever, called "Vexillum Project" for the MIUI ROM, that contains over 1300 .png files and also to contribute to expand it!
Even if there are hundreds of icons, it may happen that you use apps that don't have the right icon yet. So i've opened this thread where i'm gonna write, step by step, what you gotta do if you want to create them.
I know that there is already a guide on the Vexillum project thread but i found it a little bit confusing and to make it clear i rewrite the guide as good as i can to help you.
Once you have done your icons i pray you to post them on the original thread, so they would be put in the next release of the pack and everyone would enjoy them.
So, i won't write only the metod to create icons and put them in the pack yourself, i wanna collect all the icons developers (designers) in this thread of the Vexillum Project and everyone who would like to become one of them. This would help all the people that have icons requests and, of course, they aren't considered for the tens of post that everyday invade the original thread.
However, people the have requests should write the name of the app they need next to the market link to speed the process of creating.
<<EVERY ICONS DESIGNER CAN WRITE A POST WITH AT LEAST 2 ICONS AND I'LL INSERT THEM IN THE DESIGNER LIST IN THE FIRST POST>>
HOW TO CREATE AN ICON
1. save the model icon to your PC from the net
(model icon = is picture that contains the symbol or the name of the app)
2. download the public template from here
(public template = is a .psd file that, once opened with photoshop, would help you to cut out the icon so it can fit with the other theme's icons)
3. open the public template file with photoshop
4. open your model icon (source file) with photoshop
5. select the parts of the model icons that you want to keep (with "Magic Wand Tool" or other select metods)
6. right click (don't deselect) and choose "select inverse"
7. click the "canc" button on your keyboard and all the parts you don't need will be deleted
8. select the "crop tool" on the left
9. on the top, in "width" write "80 px" and in "height" write "80 px"
10. crop the icon using "maiusc" (on the keyboard) to do a squared crop then click the "V" on the top to confirm
11. select "rectangular marquee tool" on the left
12. select all the icon and copy it
13. move to the public template tab you opened before and "paste" the icon
14. choose the background color just keeping visible it (click on the little square on the left of the color layer) on the right-bottom layers
15. select the "sample" layer (with a green cicle) then right click
16. select "copy layer style"
17. select "layer 1" (where you paste your icon) and right click
18. select "paste layer style"

[THEMES and ICONS] Icons set F Black&White + template

Hi everybody!
First of all, I am using Buzz Launcher, which means that my "themes" are made following specific parameters such as the grid size, no labels, etc.
But I think that other launchers allow you to customize your appearence as well.
My phone resolution is 854*480.
I had a 720p one but had to send it back, so for now I can't work on that resolution anymore.
So for those having higher resolutions, well I don't know what the result would be on your screens. Except for wallpapers, I guess icons would be displayed well.
Before sharing my files, I'd like to show you what I've done so far and get your opinion: if you like it or not, what I could/should change, etc.
This to get a nice final result.
And obviously I won't and never will sell those resources because:
- I'm using some stuff such as photographs from other persons
- Some icons are directly made from other icons you can find on the Play Store or Google Image
- I'm here to share
To be edited later (once I have posted 10 messages and can freely post direct links):
I. Icons only
II. Backgrounds only
III. Themes: icons + backgrounds
I. ICONS
II. BACKGROUNDS
III. THEMES
Hey!
One of my nicest try so far: a panda theme! (I love pandas)
The panda is partially made from an iPhone game icon named Land-a-panda (see the attached pictures).
Those icons are for HD displays (720p): 144x144. Work fine on lower resolutions.
And I've "made" a few backgrounds too, giving quite a cool result when used with those icons.
Also, because it's quite boring to always have the same face, I just added 2 other kinds of eyes (see Viber and Video Player icons).
What do you think? Worth sharing them?
Any idea welcome
Let's keep up the monologue.
Seems not be be very interesting. Whatever, I'm sharing my work anyway.
Let's begin with the icons:
192 icons (64 app with 3 different kinds of pandas), pretty high quality: 144x144. See the sample below.
And if you are wondering: yes, it took me ages to save each file.
I'll share the Photoshop template once I can post direct links (man that's some weird annoying policy!), so that you can create your own icons without having to wait for updates (as I may not update this theme anyway).
If you give it a try, please share some photos/screenshots
ZIP file size: 3.62Mb
Note: if you find the icons resolution too high (say you want a 96px² size), you can use a (free) software such as ImRe to massively convert the whole folder. It perfectly and quickly does the job.
Laterz
Hey oi!
New icons, "copied" from a screenshot I saw somewhere (I think it's called themer, it's new and not compatible with all phones (not my X720D).
So here we go, 3 samples and the template file (PSD, Photoshop CS5).
The PSD is made as follow:
- A folder with the white pictures representing the icons (that's the part you really need to work on if you want to make your own icons)
- The icon's shadow (layer)
- The icon's color (layer), locked to the edit mode (you pick your color, use the brush tool and paint: it will paint ONLY the visible pixels).
Theme 5: Japanology (again)
The principle of this theme is simple: the background is the main deal, then there just needs to add the app and choose a transparent PNG to make them invisible.
Main problem with that theme: icons cannot be replaced, which means you must always keep the same applications on your screen.
edit: well it seems that uploading pictures isn't working at the moment. My PC or the servers, I don't know. I'l try to re-upload later if it keeps showing a 404.
Hum there seems to be a problem with uploading pictures from the forum. Even after having edited my post 2 times.
Hoho but I found a way to post links without having 10 posts: quotation (I hope you won't mind)
Click on each picture to enlarge it. See the above post for more information about how to use that "theme" (Buzz Launcher); Note that you must create your own date/time/battery widget (as in the screenshot below).

Could a moderator do something about that ?
That's really becoming a pain...

[ICONS][GUIDE] Creating Mask Based Icon Themes (with Example)

I've only created two icon packs, but they seem to work, so I'll take you through my process.
The first thing to research is how mask based icons work in general. There's a dearth of good information, but I did find the Icons Special Features section of the ADW Theming Guide to be useful. Alternatively, you can follow along and examine my images to gain an understanding of what I've done.
Let's proceed.
I began with mathur's Icon-Pack Template, but I've modified it to fit my needs by removing unnecessary bits and the parts relating to non-mask based icon packs. See the attached example, Crinkle.zip
Once you've downloaded Crinkle.zip and imported the code into eclipse, there are several things you'll need to alter:
First, you must rename the package. This can be done by doing one (or both) these actions:
[project (context menu)] > Android Tools > Rename Application Package
[package (context menu)] > Refactor > RenameSecond, ensure the correct scale factor. This can be found in two places:
assets / appfilter.xml
res / xml / appfilter.xmlThird, make sure your informational strings are correct. There are two locations:
res / values / strings.xml
res / values / theme_config.xmlFourth, and most important, add your own icons. These can be found in res / drawable-xhdpi, and they are:
icon.png - the application icon
iconback.png - the background image
iconmask.png - the transparency / opacity mask
iconupon.png - the overlay imageNow test it out.
My finished icon pack is live on Google Play under the title Crinkle Icon Theme.
Enjoy!
This looks great, but how would you create a mask for making all the icons black and white? Something like this:
com.seangrondin.icons.filmstripdesaturate (sorry i can't post links yet )
I want to make a sepia themed icon mask.
Thanks
error
Also, I'm getting an error as soon as I import.
Is there a way to make this target api 10 instead of api 19?

I looked into it a bit, and here's what I've discovered. If you include a res/xml/shader.xml file, you will be able to affect the color in at least Apex and Nova. I found a fairly detailed explanation that should help you get started.
I will soon update the original post to include more details about this, as well as a cleaner icon pack framework.
How do I make it compatible with Smart Launcher? The icon pack applies but the shader doesn't work and the theme doesn't show up under "Themes"
