Verve Folio Stand for Kindle Fire [ used with Nexus 7 ] - Nexus 7 Accessories

I have seen a lot of questions about cases for the Nexus7. I will contribute with my experience with my Verve Folio Stand for Kindle Fire.
I love this case. Simple as that.
It is like rhino skin on the outside and very short durable soft velvet on the inside that sits against your Nexus. There are elastic straps at the four corner that hold the tablet in place and it grips the Nexus snug without any sliding whatsoever. In fact, you can barely budge it at all once the straps are slipped over the corners. I was very impressed with the ease of popping the nexus in and slipping it out while still maintaining absolute firm hold when in place.
All buttons are accessible with the power button being partially covered by the top right corner strap [ not a bad thing ] and the headphone jack being easily accessible with moving the bottom right corner strap over by a 32nd of an inch.
On the back there is a velvety tight elastic strap that can be flip flopped to the front to hold the case closed and to the back to hold the case open when you need it. The case is very light and the corners stick out slightly farther than the corners of the nexus which makes dropping your nexus on the corners and breaking the screen almost impossible.
There is an engineered fold in the top quarter of the back that allows you to flip the case over and use it as a stand. They were able to do this with almost no addition to the thickness at all. This functions perfectly with the velvety interior staying clean and the rhino skin sitting against the surface of your desk.
I would say the depth of the nexus and the case together is only about an inch. Perfectly acceptable and pleasing to carry around. Because of the leathery outside you don't worry about scratches like on a hard case and you just rub it off to get the dust and garbage off the surface from your daily adventures.
I would say looking at this thing in the store you would only give it maybe 5/10. It doesn't stand out with gimmicks much.
In practice the functionality and the obvious tip top engineering that went into this case to make it as useful as possible while maintaining the lowest possible profile make it more like 9/10+. I don't see myself needing anything "better" or different than what I have here for the life of my Nexus7.
These are random pictures of the case off the net...

[MOD] DIY TPU Bumper case for the G2x/O2x with Extended Battery

I just posted this in the G2x forums, but I figured you guys might find it useful as well...
I just got a 2800MAH Anker Extended battery from ebay, and unfortunately, my TPU case didn't fit over the extended case back. FatalityBoyZahy suggested that I cut the back of the TPU case off to make it fit, and this is what I did.
What you need:
Generic TPU Case
Xacto Knife/Some sort of Cutting Implement
Patience
Optional:
File
Match/Lighter/Some sort of small controlled flame
What I did was cut the back of the case, a little at a time, until it fit over my phone with the extended battery in. I ended up taking most of the back off before it fit.
I'm not that great with an Xacto, so the cut was bumpy and jaggedy. I used a file to even it out as best I could. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I wanted a clean edge. So, I used matches to melt the cut edge, and when it dried it was a clean, almost factory finish.

Final thoughts...
I think that It came out pretty well. One thing that I do notice is that the sides dont hug the phone like they used to... I think that this is because the profile is slightly different now and I left a decent amount of material. You could probably fix this if you cut a bit more. Its no big deal and you can still press all the buttons. From a distance, this seems like a manufactured case. You can only tell that it's diy'ed when you look at it from close up. Also, I think that using the file wasn't necessary because if you hold the flame there long enough you should be able to melt it down to be even. But don't hold the flame at one place too long... I had my case catch fire once
Cases are cheap, give it a shot
how secure is the case imean it lowers the damage of a fall or it's just like look nice case ?

It fits pretty snugly on the phone, so it should be just as secure as using a tpu case (other than the exposed back of course). I haven't dropped it yet thankfully, but it fits on pretty tightly and wouldn't fall off or anything... I'm pretty pleased with how it came out!

I purchased this case for £6.95 form AMazon yesterday and it came today. I wanted a thin case that offers as much protection as it could, and I believe this is that case. THis case is listed as $35 on thier website, I just wanted to say I dont think that it is worth that much.
The case has a hard, plastic structure with a layer of Brushed Aluminum on the back. This gives it a cool touch and a very nice texture. All cutouts are very well aligned and I have had no issues with audio or pressing the volume or power buttons. The pogo pins are also exposed which is nice as this is the only case I know where they have allowed them to be open. Overall the case is very good very slim and offers quite a lot of protection.
THe negatives come in the way of the design though. The huge poetic logo on the back of the case (see images) may put some people off as well as the bottom and top silver plastic being exposed on the device. Also the case is not that grippy to hold. Meaning it is very slippy to hold and may fall out of your hand.
Great case at a great price.

Here's my video:
Great review man... does it provide any protection to the front? What I mean is if you put the nexus face down does the glass touch the surface at all?
Thanks for putting up the review. That has got to be one ugly case though. I want my branding to be mostly invisible. That one screams LOOK AT ME!!!!! :silly:
Just recently got my nexus and I've been looking for a new case. I just recently dropped my nexus on concrete and the top right corner the I guess bezel or the silver gray material came off. Am wonder ok by if this case would provide decent protection against such a fall

Lol Im not a fan of the branding, but the case feels really nice in the hand

This would be the perfect "thin case".

I have a Samsung flip case which I love but the lack of drop protection is disconcerting. What would be awesome would be if someone made little clear gel "corner bumpers" that you could just fit over each corner and not all the way around the phone. They could be small and thin with a little stickiness on the inside to hold them on. It would be the ultimate "thin" case as it only protected the corners (the trouble spots).
Does such a thing exist?

Sugru -Different colors, but no clear.

or make your own and don't put any coloring in it. I think it will be as clear as silicone gel.

Thanks but I am looking for something premade and clear. That would look pretty ghetto.

mine doesn't look perfect, but it's only as ghetto as your art skills. get someone else to do it for you. It's not just silicone so not sticky after it sets.
It's the best drop protection you'll get on anything thin. plastic just transfers energy to the screen, rubber on the sides just adds bulk and there doesn't need to be anything on the back in most cases.
In reality though, most cases look ghetto compared to the gorgeous phones we get new and then cover up. My brother's iPhone bumpers are 5th or 6th generation Sugru, so he's getting pretty good at shaping them and they are only raised about 1/16" on the ends but a bit more for the face.

Wouldn't those just fall off if you dropped it on one of those corners? What holds that stuff in place, can it be removed without damage to the device? Residue, adhesive?

[HowTo] Convert the original Asus Nexus 7 Case into a Smart Cover

Hi,
About 2 weeks ago i bought the original asus case for the nexus 7. Unfortunately it is not a smart cover. But with a few mods you can easily convert it into a smart cover which uses the sleep/wake function of the Nexus 7 tablet.
This article is a short tutorial how build such a case without spending a lot of money ...
So, first you should think about a small, thin magnet. I bought some cheap K315 AKG headphones ...

... and saw that the box has 4 magnets. You can see the small round black magnet in this picture.
This magnet is really thin but its still too big. So, just break it into small pieces and take the best one. Afterwards sand it (in german: abschleifen) and stick it on the case. You can see the right position on the following picture. Thats how it looks afterwards ....
... and ....
...and from the side...
So, now you have a working smart cover which activates the screen when the cover gets opened. Typically you fold the cover to the back which would deactive the screen again. To avoid that you need a thin piece of shim steel. I got mine from a beer coaster During drinking the beer i've worked on the coaster and made it as thin as possible. You can see the result on the follwing picture. Make sure that you put this piece of steel on the right place !! You can test it later with your magnet ...
Finally, after putting the Nexus 7 device back into the case, you can fold the cover to the back without deactivating the screen .....
So, thats it. From now on you just need to open the cover and your Nexus 7 turns on
If you've questions, don't hesitate to ask me
I like this. If I was to do it, I would paint the magnet with some rubber paint to match the colour of the case: http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip

Thanks, that's a good idea.
Currently, I am thinking about a more optimized version... The hight of the magnet is so low, that it would be possible to put it to the inner side of the cover in such a way that the magnet is completly absorbed and surrounded by the cover with no contact to the display of the tablet.
Therefore i would need to countersink the cover a little bit for the magnet so that it fits into it. With that solution the magnet would be hidden with no risk to scratch the display. The front cover itself has about twice the high of the magnet. Thats perfect.
But for now, at least the next days, i let it as it is with the solution which i've described in the tutorial. It's a solution with no risk and i could revert it if want to. And it works just perfectly

Kickstand Case

I purchased this kickstand case on ebay and I am very happy with it. This case stands the Note up at good angles both vertically and horizontally and It is slim enough to fit comfortably in my frocket (what my son calls my front shirt pocket) but offers adequate protection and has a nice front lip. It also slides in and out easily because of the hard plastic covering. The unexpected advantage is that the kickstand also can act like a holder for the phone for one handed operation by opening the kickstand and holding the phone by putting your middle finger through the opening of the kickstand and its supporting bracket. I also think the style is very attractive compared to most phone cases of this type and cost.

After trying a few different cases, my wife and I are both using this one now. Mine is black, hers is purple. The purple (not to be confused with the pink) is a stunning, deep, rich color. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the lines on the back. I'd prefer something a little cleaner. I love the case, though. It offers excellent protection, it's easy to get on and off (important to me because I swap batteries instead of charging the phone), and the price is right.

a bit thick for my taste. I'm waiting for this to arrive.
I'm replacing the RED stand with WHITE.

Most are sold out, but I have an extra Red/Red stand case for $10.

The nice thing about this case is it stands the Note 2 up, steadily and at a good angle, in either portrait or landscape.

Cases with the antenna cutout on the upper right corner drive me batty. It exposes 1 of the 4 primary drop points.
