So I got my plug's flipped around for the phone to work, and it fits in, lapdock recognizes it, it asked me what dock I wanted to use it as, I put in office, I think? Now I don't have a moise pointer on my screen, I keep swiping the touchpad area and nothing happens, how to I reset what it's suppose to recognize as docking to so I can get that back?
Or is me choosing the wrong dock type even the problem?

mine (lapdock atrix 4g) never asked for dock type. and No touchpad means no USB connection, check your connectors.

Thx I'll try this
Edit: Worked! USB connection just wasn't as good as the HDMI one was, it's a really fragile connection, I can't move the lapdock around like you could with the 4G OG version, not because it doesn't lay in landcape, the phone is very snug, but small wobbles keep disconnecting the usb...
Is this something I jus thave to deal with, or would maybe getting the new lapdock 400 or w/e be a good fix for this? I'm thinking maybe it's because my lapdock is super old, bought it sameday as phone at release. So is my lapdock showing it's age, or is this something we'll all experience?

my connection was bad too when i first did the dock mod, when i realized it, i took it apart again and did it over better.... but since you seem to already have a good mod, not sure if that would fix it
Agreed, i have done this and i can use it walking around out doing anything really. Didn't ever disconnect.... Might retry just to be cautious?

Thanks for the replies everyone! I tried to re-seat the connections, and it's a lot better. I'm thinking I might seat it in a good spot, dab some super glue on that bad boy, let it sit, and then that'll make sure there's no give to it!
Where can one buy a lapdock 500 on the cheap? Also, is the screen on the 500 better than the 100? I knew this aleady going in, but the screen isn't HD, so sometimes things can come through looking a little fuzzy!

the Bionic and atrix lapdock are 720p exactly like the Atrix HD screen.
My problem wasnt that I didnt shave enuff of the plastic, and I had a bad angle, glue wouldnt fix that one.

Hi - I seem to have knackered my mini-usb port a bit (probably by accidentally sticking my stylus in it).
I can get a replacement one on eBay, but it doesn't come with any instructions. Does anyone know where I could find instructions to fit it? Or is it something that would need a soldering iron (which I don't have) or something too tricky for a clumsy oaf like me?
Thanks
Dan
I'm pretty sure you're stuck with the soldering problem. Hopefully I'm wrong, I have a friend that needs to replace his.

I could, but there's no visible difference. My suspicion is that it just a little bit looser than it should be.

Oh no! I'm not getting into that, but so far it's looking like it'll cost £50 to get it fixed if I send it off to somewhere. At that price I'd prefer to live with a bit of a dodgy connection...
Thankfully you can use bluetooth for most everything.
And a battery charging cradle if reqd

As well as an el-cheapo cradle with battery recharge bay IF the battery no longer recharges in the phone. If dancj was not proficient at soldering, he could get that part done by someone who is but given the 'clumsy oaf' statement perhaps it's best for any work on the phone to be done professionally. Bluetooth dongles are cheap if the PC usually sync'd with doesn't natively have bluetooth but it'd be worth dancj having a good read of the manual to determine how to set up the connection first if this is new ground - this particular clumsy oaf found it quite tricky figuring out which side the connection is initially configured and initiated from until reading the manual

As mentioned in my post above, a cradle with battery charging bay gets around that. They're very cheap too (Here are the details of what I have). If you add to that a Bluetooth dongle for about £15, you're still well on the right side of the £50 repair cost.
Sorry - I misunderstood.
I have a kind of workaround at the moment which is one of these 3 way adaptors.
The plug for this one is a bit different and grips the bit inside the USB socket and still gives a good connection. I could keep that in the car and then have one of those cradles at home and at work...

I've got something that looks like that as well. I guess if its plug connects well with your phone, there's no reason why you couldn't use it for mains charging as well, although I don't know if I'd trust a slightly damaged USB port to not deteriorate. Irrespective of what happens with the port, that cradle and spare battery could still be utilised.
Yes sir,

i don't know if this is what Flying Kiwi is talking about, but you can also have one spare battery and a battery charger, and whenever one of the two batteries is depleted, replace it with the one that you charged with the battery charger, and so on. just keep that spare full one in your pocket.
Yeah that is an option. I really don't want to have to resort to physically changing my battery every day though.

Then you could get one of those big thick high capacity batteries with a matching 'swollen' battery cover and you'll only have to change it every second or third day. The downside is it doesn't look as good and it weighs more but it would still be cheaper than a £50 repair. Which is more important, saving a few quid or fixing it properly and having full functionality back?
If it comes down to that I think I'll swallow the £50 repair fee. At the moment I'm still torn between trying to get it repaired cheaper or living with a dodgy connection
Hi,
I trade out for an Eken M003 8" tablet running 1.6 on it. I can not stand it as of right now. I decided to do a tear down of it to see if it was indeed able to be upgraded. I have search all of the world wide web for anything on this, and so far I have found barely anything. I will be adding Pictures tomorrow.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this device, other than it is cheap? It has a wm8505 Chipset in it and a small ram chip as well. I am not advanced in the Hardware side of things, but I do like tearing apart..lol. I tried Wondermedia, and Via to try and buy another chipset for it, but I cant find one. Hell even if I can desolder the ram, I cant find anything to get back on it. One question I have is does the WM8505 chip actually contain the O.S. on it? If so what would happen if I did indeed replace it with a blank chip? Could I put an operating system of my choosing on it then? What if I increase ram from 128-1g? Lots of questions, and the only site I can find is Slatedroid, but it is non operational. I have a rooted Nexus and it is faster that this POS. I dont care what really happens to it, I just want to experiment. Any suggestions?

I just found tw6805 on everbuying.com,but i don't know whether it agree with yours.
The problem with these things is that, they are so cheap.... you cannot expect support. I really don't see the purpose of an Android tablet if you have an Android phone or a PC/Tablet PC
I agree about cheap, I didnt pay anything for it, I traded out something I didnt want for it. Really just wanting to try and upgrade it and see just how fast it is. I have a Nexus One that I love, and it is faster than this thing by far. Would be cool to stick in 1g memory, and 1ghz processor. Then I just have to learn how to port custom rom on it, and instant Bathroom fantastica!
take it apart
Hi tytngasman, how you dismantled it?
Do you have any suggestion?
I need to open it to check why the display looks garbaged.
Thanks.

There are 2 crews at the bottom, and an additional 2 screws under the bezel on the left and right side. Then just pop the tabs, and there you go!
Great! Thank you.
My M003 has got a very strange issue: if you push back the sim-like cpu card the display stop garbaging. If you leave it alone, all images are scrambled!
I was trying to glue the sim but is a no go...
In the meantime I broke the touch screen
Then... game over.

I dont understand what you are talking about with the glue. What sim-like cpu chip? The only removable thing on the board is the wm8505 chipset. It looks like a piece of Laptop Memory. Should have two silver clips on the board that it snaps into, and should be about 3 inches by 1.5 inches. do you have a pic of the part? also you can get another screen.
yes, the sodimm like card with the chipset.
if I push it, the screen is clean, if I leave it alone the screen is garbaged
I suppose that the problem must be related to wm chip itself (bad balls) or to the sodimm connector.
any suggestion?
ah! I just bought off ebay a touchscreen replacement for 15$ shipped.

i HOPE THAT WORKS FOR YOU, iF NOT SEND ME A PIC OF IT. Soldering is really easy though. If that is the problem, Also could be in the clips on the side. If you pulled out the chipset without first unclipping it, then it will not hold correctly.
Not sure when or if Defy will get its own Deck Dock. But my wife got me these somewhat useless business card holders. However, as they're steel, I stuck a magnet to the back, put in my Defy and voila! Deck Dock!

Wouldn't the BB Torch's charging dock suit?
Hi all,
Within weeks I'll receive my first Android phone, after 5 years using WM. Really hope to get adapted to this new platform. It's that I'm that lucky guy who has happened to win Clove's Motorola Defy giveaway competition .
Anyway, this is purely theoretical, but I have noticed that the Blackberry Torch 9800, closed, is slightly bigger than the Defy, in all 3 dimensions. Besides, its charging dock + home charger (you'll be able to find some of them on eBay, like e.g. this one) takes the Torch in landscape mode, and seems to have its male micro-USB port more to the right side, related to its center, which could match the Defy's. Don't know whether it bears a magnet or not, though. Or, if it is be placed in the same location as required by the Defy sensor. Despite all 'ifs', I wonder if the Defy would fit in.
Anyone here would be brave enough to try one of those and see if it fits?
Just my 2 cents...
Regards,
Carlos
Do you have a BB Torch to compare? The USB adpater would have to be in the same orientation as the Defy's, which is "upside down" (narrow edge up). You'd have to have room to move the USB cover aside on the Defy too.

Unfortunately, not. It was pure speculation. Maybe someone here can make a simple test...
According to Mobilefun.co.uk, this thing should fit the defy as well...
Anyone feel like taking one for the team and putting their claims to the test? Looks like a nice dock but I'm afraid that A) it won't fit snugly and B) the usb cover will get in the way.

It might be worth asking them if they can provide photos to back up their claim.
It's in their best interest after all as I'm sure a few of us are interested in finding a decent desktop dock for their Defy.
What? Milestone (Droid)'s dock?
I don't see how the Milestone's dock would suit the Defy, since the former's micro-USB port is to the left, whilst the latter's is to the right.
I might me heavily wrong though (as usual)...
Regards,
Carlos
Anyone had any luck finding a dock for this thing? I am interested as well.
Some guy's come up with a DIY Dock, credits to uploader
Sorry can't paste links so go to youtube and type in "Motorola Defy media dock"
Looks neat
It's made of cardboard - cereal box style. Good effort tho.
Could be a market for aftermarket stands if someone wants to make them... worked for a guy on maemo.org for the N900. He made them out of laser cut wood and sold them via an online shop he set up. Was very popular.
Considering one of these docks
There are lots of docks for the droids and milestones but none designed for the defy yet. But I did come across a couple candidates that I am considering and wondered if anyone had tried either of them yet.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003DM4KLW/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A2LD2YC4L2Z2RO
http://www.clingo.com/home-and-office/universal-podium/
I am leaning towards the first one listed from amazon but the second also looks pretty nice. Neither has a build in charger that will line up with the defy but they have plenty of open space to allow for a usb to plug in.
I use a Clingo which is simple. It doesn't have the magnet required to automatically activate dock mode, of course.
I ordered a cheap desk stand from eBay, for the galaxy SII and the 4x HD fits perfectly!
I also customised a dock for my car, got fed up with trying to squeeze the phone into a rubbish looking universal mount, then connecting a trailing cable. So I hid the cables hard-wired behind the dash, and dremel'd the dock to shape, bent it with a hot air-gun, clamping it in a vice. Getting the connector to stay in place took a hot glue gun. (leaving a cavity underneath means I can still reach my headlight switch, not that i use it, I leave it set to on 100% of the time on the Volvo, as it makes no difference - the daytime running lights are set up to be the main dipped headlights anyway!)
I think now I've got a working prototype I'll buy another and redo it a bit neater. (The dock is only about £4 from china!) as the plastic has reacted a bit to the heat!
The dock is simply squeezed into the gap in the dash trim, it holds fine.
The phone jiggles a bit and it isn't angled towards the driver quite right, but it's fine, and certainly easier than having to fiddle the phone and charger in every time I get in the car!

look great !!! cool man ^^
I Should add, people have commented on two things - firstly in a crash it's going to fly out very easy and be dangerous (Though surely any cheap phone mount will also! Only something like a Brodit will hold it very securely)
Secondly (and quite worryingly!) Perhaps the charging socket will wear out from sitting wobbling around?
Nice but isn't mobile blocking your air-conditioning channel?
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, but sitting in the flow of air wasn't a big deal for me. Most universal mounts mount onto a vent!
I since removed this! Firstly, the phone wobbles quite a lot - I was worried that the charging socket could get worn out.
Also, in the event of a crash it would fly around quite easily!
I now use a Clingo, but I modified it by screwing the tip of the ball-joint onto a Brodit base, so it's held next to my stereo
Hi, can you please give the url for the dock you bought ?

I have one like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sync-Charge-Cradle-Dock-Station-Charger-For-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-S3-S4-i9300-i9500-/231021608377?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&var=&hash=item35c9f5fdb9
Though I've now added a shim of card (taped on the back part with black electrical tape) to hold it at just the right angle.
Just to clarify, I'm just talking about desk stands here, the car cradle idea was just me bodging a desk stand, but I don't use that any more.
I doubt a real G S2 car cradle will hold the 4x, the width would have to be the same and I'm sure it's not!
OK, so I've searched all over but I haven't seen an actual Car Dock for the LG G Flex. only universal mounts pop up and I have one of those (my wife and i used to have matching HTC EVO 4G LTE's) and it doesn't sit or play well with that one mostly because of the Curve and size. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to find a good LG Flex based car dock? we take trips down south to Austin from Amarillo a lot but it's a pain having to reach down in to my Jeeps cup holder and look away while i check GPS or change song. just curious
Curious about this as well.
One thing I have found (however dangerous and unsafe as it may be) is to use a mouse while driving. Using a OTG cable with a wireless mouse helps me keep much more focus on the road. Much better that reaching up to the phone and touching the screen imho. With the flex I have many times knocked the phone out of the bad-fitting car dock I have when I touch it, creating a dangerous situation. Hence my switch to a mouse
I got this universal mount sideways since I switch phones a lot. I adjust it so it's snug and don't even mess with the button to release it so it's easy to put in and take out. Our Columbus, Ohio roads suck and I've never had problem with it falling out. It's angled up so that helps. I tried at least 10 universal mounts and finally found one I like. I got it at Walmart.
I only mess with my phone when I'm at a light. I had a friend that died driving and texting.
