[Q] Recommend me a quality Digitizer replacement ? - Motorola Droid 3

Hi all
I require a new digitizer due to a portion of it no longer working (my fault =P).
Motorola Droid 3, XT862
Has anyone done this that can recommend me a quality or genuine replacement part ?
I am in New Zealand, imported the Droid 3 so it is impossible or close to it to find a local repair agent willing to help.
If someone can point me to an online reseller that would be fantastic, in a perfect world digitizer already mounted to housing would be good to save having to unglue mine, apply adhesive etc etc but I am not too worried.
Rather not purchase the LCD/Digitizer set that is already assembled due to the price unless this is affordable.
Thanks a bunch in advance.

Source for replacement screens?

Checking to see if anyone knows of or has a source (other than eBay) for screen replacements for the focus. I've got a badly cracked screen that I'd like to replace, but samsung direct wants $156 and the cheapest on ebay is $98.xx coming from overseas. Everyone I found via google is in the $120's give or take now as well.
Kindof kicking myself for not picking one up when I had the 10% off ebay coupon and there were US sources at $98.
Just bought 2 screens from a wholesaler. Installed one and its working great. Need sim card replacement tray now. Can't find them anywhere. If anyone has a link please let me know.

I'd like to know where you got the screens too.
www.wholesalegadgetparts.com, US wholesaler, $99.00 bucks, BBB rated etc... I just ordered one.
******** UPDATE, this seller is legit. Fast shipping, and the new digitizer/screen is flawless.
How about some info on disassembly and replacement?
So, if your 2 year old is like mine, he's quite efficient at shattering your phone's screen. SO, I went online and found a replacement screen and set sbout installing it myself. I make no claim at any sort of electrical know-how... Damn it Jim, I'm a med student not an electrician. But I do enjoy my gadgets. Anyway, I went online and found some you-tube videos and successfully changed out the screen! Woo-Hoo! I used a hybrid of the two videos as one of them seemed a little too, much but it had a good rebuild sequence.
The first video has a good description of how to remove the screen (I didn't use the hair dryier and it worked just fine), and the second shows how to put it back. The second video should also be good to show how to replace other thinsg (camera, etc.).

I hope this helps people out there make their own replacements a success!
I have a cracked glass, the LCD and digitizer are fine. I have found someone that sells the outer glass for $16. My question is if I can get the digitizer off the old glass and onto the new one.
I honestly don't want to spend $100 on a screen replacement when I can buy a slightly used one for $150...

On ebay is 12dlls the glass, somebody told me that they fix it in a mall were i am from (Mexico) they heat the screen to disolve the glue but i'm not sure about this. The total of the price should be like 35dlls the replacement.

[Q] Nexus 6 Front Replacement

Hello Guys,
Yesterday my Nexus 6 hit the ground and my display cracked from one side to another. Of course I want to repair it. I found a tutorial on iFixit which is pretty easy to understand but I´m stuck searching for the right part. The whole display costs about 180 bucks which is a way to expensive. This is for the whole LCD (with Digitizer etc.) But I just need the front panel with the Gorilla Glass 3. Does anyone know a trusted shop where I can buy just the front panel for a moderate price?
German Shops would be the best for me. But American shops with German Shipping would fit too.
Thanks for your help.

I can tell you right now that replacing just the glass yourself is something you should not do unless you have extensive experience in it. I've been repairing phones for years and I still don't do just glass. Either the whole assembly or no service. Most places won't even touch it if you only want the glass replaced. It's fused to the LCD. I have done it plenty of times before but the proper tools are a must for this kind of repair. You can't just slap new glass on because it won't look pretty at all. It's much easier to replace the whole unit. Most first timers end up breaking their LCD anyway trying to replace that glass. I highly suggest just grabbing the whole assembly.

+1 great advice.
The digitizer and the glass are fused into 1 part, you won't be able to separate them with enough grace to mate the digitizer to the new screen

Z3c cracked screen replacement question

Hello everyone!
I recently cracked the screen on this phone. It dropped from my pocket on the parquet. After I took it i saw the one crack across the screen. The display is working but touch works only in small area. So I decided to look for a replacement. But I dont't want to buy the screen with frame, as service suggested me, because it is too pricey in my country. So I want to buy just screen.
And there is a question. Can I find original screen from Sony without frame (i read what it comes only with frame in assembly) or all distributors which sells just display module as original OEM Sony part tells lie?
And if I can't, is there any very good comparable or maybe the same in image quality to original display copy?
Hi. I'm owning small repair service and I can say from experience there is no original LCD without frame. Sony service has only whole sets with frame and speakers but sometimes without flaps. LCDs without frame are never original. Unfortunately there is no tested distributor who always sells good quality replacements. It's all made in China and if You buy one of those it's better to buy from local supplier because You can return it when low quality come out. When You order it from China, You can return only when LCD or touch is not working.

Thank You for the very informative response.
But anyway, if anyone has replaced the screen with copy and it is very good quality, please reply.
It is a lottery. So even if anyone has a very good quality copy, it doesn't mean that you would get (from the same seller) the same. Besides - the good quality would mean different things to different people.
I would buy either original LCD or a new phone. As much as I know, you can get later various problems with 3rd party screens. Besides visual quality the cable connections and built-in chip must be good also otherwise you can see mild to heavy distortions very soon.
If I had to change LCD in my own phone I'd take used but original part instead of new replacement.

I had bought SGS7 a month later but among 3 phones all was with different screen defects. So i decided to return it and wait for SGS8 and now repair my Z3c (I have to use my HTC One V for daily tasks - a dubious pleasure). I don't want to spend much money on this phone. In the case of display quality for me is the lack of differences with the original or if they are not critical (the image is comparable). I read the forums and some people really got good replacement.

d802 glass panel replacement help

hi...
i have a d802 device with broken screen glass...
touch & gestures work... screen works... it only has a few cracks on it...
can i just replace the front glass (cheaper solution?) or must i replace the whole digitizer and front panel...
any suggestions on trusted online shops thazt sell genuine LG d802 parts?
thanks in advance
Digitizer and glass is a single unit, and is readily available on ebay (for cheap) so there is that. The thing is that it is next to impossible to separate the glass from the display itself, and without professional tools the result of the reassembly will be quite awful. The best would be to exchange the display assembly as a whole. This is actually done quite easily. Lots of guides are available online, which just makes the process even easier.
Also for where to get the displays. You can actually contact LG or one of their service providers to purchase the display assembly. This way you are completely sure to get a top quality product. This is a tad more expensive though.
Ebay is also another place to get displays, the quality varies greatly here (have gotten anything ranging from completely original to barely functioning knock off. )
Etradesupply is apparently the best place to get displays at the moment, as their S+ grade is comparable to the ones you get from LG

yes, i saw some youtube tutorials and removing glass from digitizer is a pain in the a$$, it can be done using hot air to melt the glue - but it's a time consuming process...
what interests me more is a whole screen section (glass+digitizer) and buying a proper genuine one for d802 (i think some people had issues with installing wrong panels from other variants to their d802 model)
thanks for your helpful answer :good:

The thing is that the D800 and Veriozon models (as I recall) uses different digitizers. The connectors for these should not physically be able to connect to the D802 motherboard.
But to be able to cure the optically clear glue used for displays you will not only need an uv light but also lots of practice. Air bubbles get caught under the glass way too easily for it to be viable.
One more thing to note. the LCD itself is too easy to bend. Any flex will destroy it. Should also note that I too have watched the video where someone separates the G2 glass from the LCD and have tried to follow along multiple times. Every time resulting the same way. LCD breakage. Both times the polarizing filter got unstuck. So if you really want to go this route, my advice would be to find a professional to do the job.
Recently I had same problem: cracked digitizer. After my experience - first trying to replace only digitizer - NOT GOOD. I had to buy a whole set - digitizer and LCD. Just pay attention to your type of LG G2 - you can find all the types. But I am not sure if you can find a genuine replacement. Usually they are substitute, with no logo. But everything works fine. Pay attention also to where and how the connectors are placed and the most important thing - after you took out the old LCD give it a good heat to the back of the battery pack because is stuck with strong biadhesives and try not to pry too much the battery.
I just replaced mine G2 D802 (from 2013) Lcd, you need to replace the whole thing (screen+lcd)I think, you can buy the Lcd from the Internet. I bought the lcd about $50 and got the shop to replace it for $6. Now my G2 is like new.

AirTriggers unavilable after screen replacement

Hello,
I'm about to order an after market display to replace my cracked display. However, I continue to read customer feedback saying AirTriggers doesn't work after replacing the screen (on AliExpress, eBay and various Chinese whole sale sites).
The explanation provided is that display sold on eBay, AliExpress are generic unofficial display not specifically purposed for the ROG 2, which I just can't believe. Surely all the highly specific displays and digitizers fitting a ROG 2 must originate from the same manufacturing process and assembly line??
Also, isn't the AirTrigger-tech implemented in the frame. Rather than relying on display properties?
Deeper knowledge would be much appreciated

Hello, I'm kinda facing the same problem here, but i think it has something to do with replacing the frame as the new frame doesn't come with the pressure sensor flex in it, so i guess it's only if you're replacing the frame, which what i intend to do.

That's exactly the impression I've got after further reading since posting this.
Although I feel there's lacking any 100% confirmation, which makes me hesitant in placing an order just yet. I'm currently gathering user experience from various Telegram channels, the Vietnamese seem to be positive in that it works if your not changing the frame.

Exactly, i find changing the frame is better since the new lcd comes already glued in place, only gotta figure out if the air trigger sensor can be removed on to the new frame, i managed to do that with my HTC U11+, hope it's the same here. If you want i can point you out to a really good seller on ali express, the quality of the lcd and parts he sell look really good.
