[Q] OOOPS shouldn't have done that - HTC Incredible S

So I was testing new stuff on my ONE S when things went wrong. So I went to my inc S and grabbed the SD. Long story short I formatted it and lost my recovery's. I am wondering if someone can give me a md5 file or even the .img's (boot, system , data....)? I don't want to do a complete reinstall to factory to make another nand backup.
Thanks

What have you lost? You could download the recovery from the 4EXT or CWM sites in img format.

I think he wanna say he lost his bacups.
@rjkitch
Dude, I'm not sure that someone will give you his/her backup will all private stuff (like sms and phonebook) inside.

All nand flash
I have lost all recovery, I am just worried that my phone crashes and can't recover. I have made a recovery (restore) but I am not sure if this will bring me back from a brick state if it should happen. Is installing a RUU the only way that I will get this back? if so do I have to turn S on to get a true recovery, how far back do I have to go?
Again thanks for all the great info

Recovery brick is the softest brick you can come up to, so don't worry (see the link how it works in my signature).
I'm not sure that you can loose recovery just with formatting your SD card cause recovery should work even when you don't have a card in your device. Anyway, if you loose recovery you can always flash it via fastboot.
And at the end, I still don't get it, what have you lost your nand backups or you can't boot to recovery?

I have lost all, I had all of my backups including my nand saved on my sd card. Yes I can still boot into cwm recovery but there is no backups found other then the cm7 that I just backed up. I have tried to find the md5 file as well as the system.img data.img and so on.
What I am getting out of this is I need to install a RUU go back to authentic then re backup? when I do this do I need S-on?

You don't deserve any more help, but ok. What hboot do you have?

So I am not sure how I miss led you I told you on the first post I erased my sd and that all my backup info was on it including my nand. But would still like your opinion, even though I think you had a hasty reply to me.

It's revolutionary hboot, isn't it?
If it's Revolutionary yku should be able to run ruu without loosing s-off. If it's Alpharev hboot I suggest you to flash BlackRose.

K so it Alpharev
I will flash black rose and post results tomorrow.
Thanks again for your help

With Revolutionary HBOOT6.13 you will only be able to the Gingerbread based RUUs. If you attempt to use one of the new ICS RUU, the phone will not boot because the stock ICS ROM needs the stock HBOOT 2.0x.

So installed black then Ginger RUU (thanks for the RUU heads up) I got a new nand. I can't say enough about the users on this site, thanks for your help.
Now to get back cm

Haven't messed with a hero in a long time, but since you can get into h-boot, try to find a HERCIMG.zip of either the recovery or a full rom. (I see you now have an Evo, so HERCIMG.zip is just the Hero version of the PC36IMG for the Evo). Since the hero is pretty easy to root, I would suggest the entire rom to start fresh. If you are not familiar with HERCIMG.zip, put it on the root of your sd card and boot to hboot. It should then prompt you for the update.

If you are using a full rom image, you will need to re-root. Just use the one-click root for the Hero. But yes after you flash the image, I would boot just to make sure you are now good.
If just use a recovery img then try to boot into recovery and flash a very basic, maybe stock like rom.
i downloaded a HERCIMG.zip and hboot wont recognize it.... i think its because i have the latest hboot and radio already installed so i dont know what to do now... i've done hard reset, clear storage and i still can only get the white htc start screen and it stays there for hours until the battery dies i've done a hard reset and now my phone says s-on so somewhere in the process of trying to fix this i've lost my s-off.... i have no idea what to do :'(

Reflash darchs eng-spl to enable fast boot commands. It will give you s-off again. If you can't find it let me know. Also I'd recommended flashing it with ra1.6,1.7 or cwm2.5. After you flash the s-off zip your phone should flash the hercimg.zip

What did u name the zip file?
... it's been a common mistake with this process that people actually name "hercimg.zip", which now becomes "hercimg.zip.zip"
But u have to name it just "hercimg" since it's already a zip file.
Its just a thought ... and plz excuse me for questioning u if u did it correctly and it truly did not work.

Another HERCIMG question...

So my not so brilliant girlfriend tried to flash a ROM herself and its now in a reboot loop with HTC white screen and a sprint load screen. No backup, computer does not recognize the phone when plugged in, it does charge though. Hboot 1.47 does work and so does CWR 2.5.07....I tried to flash HERCIMG.ZIP but its not finding it in Hboot. I can see the file in recovery though. It is S-On, so I know there may be issues with that as well. I did format the SD card via my computer card reader as well.
I have another phone for her but I really just want to see if I can fix it. Anyone have any longshot ideas?
go here,,,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759955,, its an s-off tool. install it and you may be able to flash your HERCIMG.img file. Or you can possibly get an RUU thats flashable through HBOOT and then reroot and start from scratch... later man
Im obviously cool with going back to factory at this point. Given cuurent state of the loop, anything do needs to be flashable I think.
I know you can find RUU's here in developement.somewhere that are flashable from hboot and some from recovery which ever you prefere or are able to. Iust sewrch the developement thread, youll fond what your lookinh for. You need to be s-off the flash a HERCIMG file from h-boot, you can ruu though. If toy can get into recovery, just flash a new Rom and gapps. Make sure you format everything in cwm multiple times. I format boot, system, cache and data 3x. Sounds like overkill, but it cleans out the dingleberries.
You think Meth is bad? Try being a flash whore with a Gingerbread habit and a legacy device! It ain't pretty.

If you use the HERCIMG that is for S-ON it will downgrade your radio automatically.

Have you checked to make sure that you haven't named it HERCIMG.zip.zip? If you put .zip in the name, it will show up twice. If you can get into recovery, I don't see why you want to ruu when you could use something more optimized (like NFX sense roms) or custom CM7, AOSP, etc.
You should be able to ruu without changing the radio. It will change it when you flash the ruu. Use Darchs SPL ENG for S-off and you don't have to change the radio I believe for that one. Regaws is permanent and you need to downgrade I think.

Yes you will need to get a microSD card to install and flash a new ROM using CWM.
Actually I'm not sure if it is CWM... Its a white background with 3 droids down the bottom on skateboards
Selecting recovery takes me to 4EXTRecovery v2.1.0 which also tells me the current ROM is Nik_IncredibleS_TriNiTy_Sen and cuts off, how do i boot the rom from there?
Or is the SD card also required here? backup/restore under Nandroid part tells me it cant mount the SD card.

You are going to want to get a SDcard in there so you can backup the system and download a new ROM or at least download Nik Trinity ROM so you can reflash it.
In the mean time from the recovery menu you could try a wipe data/system reset to see if you can get it booted.
The good thing is that you have permanent S-Off, so you should be able to get one of the ROMs to load and boot.
Will try that now, should i try:
wipe data/factory reset
format system
format data
Or something else? I presume the first option? Dont wanna screw anything up

Personal preference. On my original HTC ARia I went with CM6 and CM7 because HTC Sense was too slow, but on my IncS it runs Sense 2.1 so well I have just stuck with a rooted version of the WWE stock 2.10.405.1 ROM. To each his own.

Really depends on weather u want a Sense ROM or not. Niks Trinity sensation XL v2 is turning out to be a great sense ROM heavy on the eye candy, although this can also be a bit heavy on the battery consumption. CM or arhd for non sense ROMs. Flash one, try it out, back it up then flash another, try that out, if u like back it up, if not restore the older flash and use that or flash another. With CW recovery the possibilities are endless. Happy flashing....once u get an sd!

Any idea when we can expect semi-stable AOSP builds? I have noticed GalnetMIUI have started introducing some of the ICS framework into their builds http://galnetmiui.co.uk/landing/ics-builds/
Anyone want to help guide me through this?
Got the MicroSD and formatted as FAT32, currently downloading ARHD and CM and will use whatever downloads sooner
EDIT: Looks like CM will be done a lot sooner, with the installation process http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Incredible_S:_Full_Update_Guide do i need to put it under a root folder? ARHD doesnt mention a specific folder, only the SD card. Does it really matter?
EDIT2: Installed CM7.1 fine, then ran the super wipe script and couldnt install Galnet's MIUI for some reason. Will try again and also try ARHD

In recovery mode you can do a nandroid backup which is a complete backup of the phone at that point in time; ROM, apps, settings etc. Restoring a nandroid backup will return the phone to that point in time.
To backup apps and then restore them when you flash a new ROM, IMO I like My Backup Root. Titanium Backup is another choice.
Awesome, that was all easy enough, just restoring apps and their permissions one by one is a pain in the ass
That galnet ICS ROM and a ICS theme is really nice
this is the first time i've heard people trying to flash a rom without a sd card. (where did he put the rom in the first place anyway?)

in the supersu app you have the option to completely unroot. it should work..
yes, to access this folder you need a root explorer and a rooted device. then you can copy/move the backups with the root explorer on the device to the sdcard. after this you can find the backups on the PC.

Nope never did find it. I'm still looking. I need OTA update as well! I'm getting bad call reception!
I've heard using stock AT&T recovery.img works, since recovery images aren't really specific to the different carriers. Maybe try that out? Has anyone else ever tried that that can have some input?

[Q] Stuck, in many ways

Hi,
I have the non-Taiwan Butterfly S. I unlocked it via HTC Dev, and installed Clockwork Recovery.
This week, the 4.2 update was released for Singapore. It seems to have been in two parts, one which was a minor upgrade (235MB), and after that was applied, I got the option of the larger, 4.3, 700MB, OTA.
Applying the OTA seems to have left me, at boot time, with a blank screen (there is some backlight visible, after the HTC splash). I read tonight that OTA should not be used with custom recoveries, so I have (using fastboot) been able to flash the stock recovery.
I can now go into Fastboot, HBoot, and even Recovery. But I think I may no longer have an actual "system".
How can I flash either a custom ROM, or investigate the situation?
And also, after I see the Recovery screen (the battery icon), what can I do there?
Thanks,

Applying the OTA seems to have left me, at boot time, with a blank screen (there is some backlight visible, after the HTC splash). I read tonight that OTA should not be used with custom recoveries, so I have (using fastboot) been able to flash the stock recovery.
I can now go into Fastboot, HBoot, and even Recovery. But I think I may no longer have an actual "system".
How can I flash either a custom ROM, or investigate the situation?
And also, after I see the Recovery screen (the battery icon), what can I do there?
Thanks,

What I would do is get TWRP Recovery (Just a matter of personal preference you can get clockwormod too) do a full wipe, clear the cache, dalvik cache and install a custom ROM hope I helped somehow
Do you still have the OTA zipfile on your device? It should be possible to force the stock recovery to install it, I just don't know how exactly. If you manage to achieve that, it should fix any corrupted files or inconsistent state, unless something went completely wrong.
Also, did the CWM recovery actually succeed to install the smaller OTA? I find that somewhat weird, but then again, I haven't tried to install OTAs using CWM, only TWRP and that did fail early.
If it was a 901S, I'd suggest installing the stock ROM from scratch, but since your phone is 901E (as far as I understand) and my stock ZIPs are for 901S, that's not guaranteed to work. Still, you might try to do that, but make sure to make a backup of the current state first, just in case it only gets worse. If it does work, it's probably going to be the easiest way out.
Another option would be to get someone else with the 901E to post a backup of their /system, I could turn that into a ZIP, which would solve your problem.

I have downloaded the Maximus ROM. I am open to doing this, but I cannot figure out how to use the stock recovery (there seem to be no controls).

I think so, too, but at this stage, I am willing to go clean-slate and restart with a stock, factory, look.

Oh, okay, I think I'm getting lost in which area has which version of the phone. Never mind then and thanks for the correction.

Well, to install custom ROMs, you'll have to use either TWRP or CWM, I don't know about a way to do that using stock recovery.
Ok, I did this:
Installed CWM Recovery
Flashed the Stock zip from koniiiik's archive
Rebooted successfully. Lots and lots of force closes, Everything from android.core to ...
Used Rom Manager to restore a backup made a month ago
Rebooted. All OK now
Flashed Stock Recovery (again, thanks koniiiik)
Booted. Checked OTA. Got a small update (1.x)
Applied. Rebooted, Checked OTA again
Got the 4.3 package. Applied.
All is well
Between Step #3 and #4, I got my entire backlog of SMS delivered, which I lost in the next step. But that is a small price to pay.
Thanks to all of you helped,

Would you mind uploading somewhere the /system part of that backup? I'd be interested in comparing it to the builds I have at hand.
Backup of /system, nearly stock
I say nearly stock, because it was taken after HTC Unlock, Clockwork Recovery was installed, and root flashed

I have three files in the directory:
system.ext4.tar (0B)
system.ext4.tar.a (954MB)
system.ext4.tar.b (500MB)
Is the split to avoid files greater than 1GB?
Will upload starting a few hours. Dropbox will do?

Don't worry about that, of these three, only root affects /system and it should be not too difficult to revert.

Most likely – FAT filesystems, depending on inode size and other factors, only support file sizes up to a certain limit. Sometimes it's 2 GB, sometimes 4 GB, sometimes probably as little as 1 GB.

That would be most helpful. Thanks.
Dropbox is back up, I have sent you a link.
Thanks
