Now that I've successfully waterproofed the nook, the only thing preventing it from being THE best device to start your day with is the lack of a good, solid shower mount.
It's amazing how well the ziplock bag works - totally waterproof, and doesn't affect the screen or typing at all. In fact, it might be better than the bare glass.
But how can I successfully mount it to my tile shower wall? I don't trust tape...and of course, it must be able to be removed once a week to charge.
Ideas? Think of the possibilities! Watching the morning newscast, NPR in the shower, using it as a remote to control your audio system, etc, etc.

Why not consider one of the car windshield mounts? I'm assuming that the texture of your shower walls will be compatible with a suction cup.
One question though: I didn't really scrutinize your photos. It looks like you're using something like a ziplock bag. Can you control your nook thru the waterproofing?
/not interested in doing this myself, but I am curious about controlling thru the plastic..

I'm going to try suction cups as well as 3M velcro.
The plastic doesn't interfere one bit. It works perfectly. Though I did just find a company called Drycase - I might pick up one of these and use it with my EEE Transformer. Would be really nice with the bigger screen and better bluetooth range to stream the audio to the bathroom speakers. Either way, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than having a screen professionally flushed into your shower.
Actually, plain Ziploc bags work fine. I use one of the gallon double-seal freezer bags (heavier plastic) when I'm reading in the bathtub. I've even dropped it in a few times.. I don't even worry about it at this point when I do, unless it smacks the side of the tub.
Just make sure you fill it with water to leak-test that it was fully bonded all the way around at the factory. No water can get out? No water can get in later, once you've dumped it out and left it open to dry for a while.
Then just insert NC, zip the bag mostly closed, and suck out as much air as possible before closing it fully. Condensation works with the ambient moisture in the present air, and a temperature differential. Water doesn't teleport through the plastic. Less air means less chance for the present moisture in the trapped air to condense.
The touchscreen works fine through the plastic. Want to try it for yourself? Just lay a plastic sandwich baggie on the screen. Works fine, same way a screen protector does.
The professional versions (aquapac, pelican, otterbox) are generally just the same stuff with a wider bonding margin to make SURE it's sealed all the way around, maybe thicker plastic for durability, and a to-fit size. I'll take the twenty-cent version that I have to fold over itself, thank you.
(edit-)
Have you tried leaving the top flap-bit not folded over, and piercing a couple of plastic grommets through the (non-sealed) flap bits? Could just use suction-cup hooks after that, though I'd be concerned at that point with the possibility of standing water sitting on the seal, which would then be made to hold the weight of the NC too. Could go for a windshield suction cup mount, but I've had bad luck with those holding on... and few are meant for all-weather applications to begin with.
Best option in my mind would be to figure a way to melt a strip together along the side or bottom, pierce the (now-solid) piece with a couple of grommets, and just use some nylon cord to hang it over your shower pipe. After leak-testing again of course.
Nothing really useful to contribute that hasn't been said already, but the wallpaper in the OP is really funny given the thread's subject.
I am interested in this, carry on
Have you thought of shower hooks? 3 total, 2 on sides, 1 bottom, slide it in from the top

do you really think I would be doing this if I could not afford to buy another? These nooks are dirt cheap and I've been looking for a good shower solution for a while. I figure I might as well try this before dropping ten grand on a professional solution.

Er... solution to what? My sense is that a Nook Color shower mount is a solution in search of a problem.
Now, a waterproof Nook Color would be cool, OTOH for reading while a in a hot tub.
Beyond an Pad winshield mount I don't have a good idea for you (though I would prefer something with 2 suction cups, not a single one) I have to admit that once I got past the WTF? momment I realized that using a large, heavy duty freezer bag (or two) would let me use the nook, or any other eReader, much more comfortably while soaking my damaged knees in the spa.
I hadn't been doing that for fear of an accidental drop, and the waterproof plastic case I have that will hold the nook is too heavy to use the screen controls.
If you can't see the use for this, you're just not very intelligent. New luxury homes are already having multitouch displays integrated into the shower for various home control functions. In ten years, they will be ubiquitous and nearly iron-man style (remember Jarvis?).
There are tons of practical uses - for example, using it with tinycam as a young child monitor. Or for your wife to monitor the security cams so she feels safe while you're travelling. Or to listen to the morning news while showering. It's really quite simple - while you're scrubbing your nutsack in silence in some dilapidated cramped cubicle, I'll be watching the morning news in HD via slingbox while being massaged and cleaned by multiple shower heads, all while being soothed by auto-controlled mood lighting.
Because I could think of about 1000 ways to mount it. Mounting it should be the least of his worries. One way would be the right way and it sounds like he would be cool with the other 999 ways considering he seems content with his ziplock bag waterproof method.

I would start off buying a 2 inch usb doggle. Then find a packaging place in your area that will vacum wrap it with the doggle attached. (Mailboxes etc., ups, fedex,) use about .030 guage plastic or whatever works with the touchscreen. Find a rubber tight fitting cap for the exposed end of the 2 inch usb. Buy a nook color case that can be siliconed to your shower wall and snap it in. Lol. I'm trying to be some what constructive here. Goodluck

Very interesting stuff, thanks.
You know, if you're going to mount a tablet into a shower...
... at least get one with a front-facing camera!
If you figure this out, let me know. I want to get a waterproof mount so I can use my NC in the toilet. Maybe mount it in the urinal at work or something.

What's a "doggle"?
Just so it's clear... you apparently want us to believe you have fancy tastes in expensive cars and have enough of an income where gas mileage is of no concern, yet you wrap a cheap hacked e-reader up in a ziplock bag?
Seems like using duct tape as a mounting solution would keep with the motif of using a taped-up zip lock bag as a waterproofing solution. You could even color in a Maserati emblem on the duct tape to make it more water friendly and more baller.
I look forward to the results of your experimentation of trying to charge the nook in the shower.
im not so interested in the use of the nook in a shower, but i do like the idea of using a plastic bag to protect your nook from kids with dirty sticky fingers.
I will admit it. I put my NC in a heavy duty gallon freezer bag so I can read in the bath tub. However, a shower mount goes beyond me.

Hard to fault ya there. That's just plain being sensible!
I'm not quite sure that I understand the need for the nook in the shower, but then I take showers that are usually 5 minutes or less. A shower is really a "get down to business" sort of thing.
A bath, OTOH: That's relaxation time; often involving a glass of wine, and usually lasting at least 15 minutes. I wouldn't think of trying to involve a laptop, but my nook in a ziplock? Hmmmm... yeah, prolly... why not?

I will freely admit I stole the idea from my SIL, who does the same thing with her iPhone so she can read. It really does work just fine through the ziplock plastic. The best way to do it is to put it so that the non-holey bottom corner in the corner of the ziplock, lay it on a flat surface, and then squeeze out as much air as possible. Then seal, and roll the bag up using the zipper part as the core. You can either tape it or hold it and it works like a charm.
Windshield mounts are illegal here, which is fine considering it's not an SUV/truck, and vision is limited.
On my phones I use a small mount that clips into the central heater vent. It's not pretty, but it works very well.
Has anyone found a solid version of something like that, for the Nexus 7?
As nice as some of the custom installs here look, I'm not interested in replacing my stereo or any panels.
I'm just at a loss for if there is something like what I use for my cell phone, but on a larger scale. It would have to clip into the heater exhaust, and be solid enough to safely hold a tablet, but also crush down when not in use. Or if there's a good alternative, I'd be glad to try it.
If the mount can support a small case as well, and crush down into place, that would be a bonus.
Many thanks!

Mountek!
Goes right in the CD Slot you can still use the CD player without any issues. I just leave that one cd in there and normally use bluetooth for all videos and music.
They don't make it official for tablets yet very slow company. But the current one they offer can easily be used for Nexus 7 with just opening and removing 2 parts (very easy) and secure.
This does not block your heating vents or the windshield

Looks interesting....can you elaborate on how to mod it to fix the Nexus?
I don't think that the nexus 7 could be attached to something that would clip into the vent. I think it would be too heavy. I have one of those kinds of mounts for my phone, but it seems to have worn out after a while.
Couldn't you put some sort of a plastic disk onto your dashboard and mount it there? Or would that still be considered obstructing your view and not allowed?
Pro-clip makes mounts specific to your car with very little "install"

My dashboard is much too rounded to allow for that.
However, I just watched a video in the XDA forums that gave me an idea. I could probably mount one of those disk style setups underneath my dashboard, and rotate it upwards. I'm just not sure how well it would hold the weight.
My car is identical to the one here: http://www.carparts.com/roadtests/hondaciviccoupe/photos.htm
The center area protrudes out a fair bit, and while it's hard to see, it's not flat right above the radio. But it is flat underneath the center console.
Maybe I'll give the exomount a try, and see if it holds in place ok.
I saw a while back a clever use of a metal coat hanger and shrink wrap tubing to make a mount for an ipad. Simply bending it to hook onto your heat vents and then shrinking the tubing so it doesnt scratch the crap out of your nexus is the only real setup to it.
I cant put the link cause I'm new to the forum, but its on instructables and just search tablet car dock coat hanger. Its one of the first few results. The title is "How to custom tablet car dock for under 15 bucks".
I guess sheet metal was involved too, making it more complicated than i thought. But, that was for a 10-incher, perhaps with a lighter tablet that isnt necessary? Just a thought, figured I'd put my two cents in.

Hey blade. Do you have that little opening right underneath the radio? The one with the little door in front? I've seen cool installs using that opening and a dash/window mount attached inside. either suction cup to the inside, or using the dash mount disc thing

I sure do! That's where the line in to the car stereo is running.
That's some good thinking right there.

If you have a few air vents, you can try the breffo spiderpodium. The normal size works. There is a tablet version, but those are meant for larger tablets. The normal size works fine. I had an imitation spiderpodium, but the concept was the same. You wrap around to hold the device and then use a few of the "legs" to stick into the air vents.
Here is a pic . But I can attest to that the arms will hold and because the arms are pretty long, they can slip into the air vents and are pretty stable. YMMV.

LOL my 4 yr old loves it. She counts with it haha....
The app I use is Ulysse Speedometer app, the free version.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.binarytoys.speedometer
I may get the paid version because it's a good app and doesn't need an ODBII Bluetooth, which I have lol. And saying that, for all you that have Torque (pro or free) there is a HUD function there as well. You have to play around with the different themes and dials to get the set up you want. However, the torque app requires the OBDII BT dongle depending on what you want to monitor. Not too sure if you can run it without it. I have the OBDII in my Tribute but on my 6, I do not so this app works well and the color can be changed to closely match your dash lights if you prefer, which I do lol.
Oh and to report back. I was using this HUD from the N7 in the 6 last night (Mazda 6 sedan), which I have modified a bit so this fits perfectly lol. But nonetheless the dash didn't accommodate the tablet too well and in this instance the tablet did move a tad. Not too much when going around the corners, but will move if you corner at 50mph lol. So in that case, I suggest a cheapie sticky pad to grip the tablet in this case. YMMV, in your case, it may work fine depending on your dash. Have fun!

I was looking at that a few weeks ago but opted for the Kroppson Aero that fit both my sensation and N7, but just barely. I wouldn't recommend the Aero FYI, the mount you have works better IMO. Now that I am getting a N4 added to the family, which is a bit longer, this may fit both devices as well.

I ended up ordering the ExoGear through Ebay (there are some sellers in the US, and they give free shipping, at the same price Amazon used to sell it for). Should be here today or Monday. Will post a pic of it once I decide how I'll set it up in the Civic.
What's the car app you're running there, or is that a modified UI of widgets? It's a nice setup.
also check out http---brodit.se, they have the nexus 7 mounting kit + car specific adapters for diverse mounting options which do not require any mods to the car.

I keep hearing reviews that the cling part gets gummy in the heat. I stayed away from that one since I'm in Florida and it gets pretty hot here most of the year.
I too am on the hunt for the perfect car mount... I'm leaning towards the mountek just because I'm tired of the suction cup models not sticking to the dash, and the vent models don't work for me.

You'd be correct sir. When the gummy part heats up from being in the sun for a while (or from dust collecting), your phone will shoot off the minute you break hard.
My old HTC One X took a few tumbles from a similar gum-based mount. If you're using in a stationary function, say on a desk or wall near a desk, it'd probably be ok.
How hard do you want to work for it and how much do you care what it looks like?
I butchered a HTC HD2 dock to work. It looks good (subjective of course but there's almost no clips and wires and latches and junk, very minimal) and it's secure (it is suction cup, it's just been a good working suction cup for me) includes usb charging, one handed not a ugly little cable hanging off to the side.
But it was kind of a ***** flipping the usb port over and still having it point at the right angle and not bugger up the wire connecting to it. But all in all took less than two hours and I love it every minute I'm in the car, so, worth it.
ProClip makes an even more convenient mount as far as using it. Like a slot you drop the phone in, no aiming, requires no attention at all. Usb charging. Very stable. But ugly. In my truck it would be fine but in my nice car I just don't want to look at something so blocky and mechanical if I can avoid it. It's not the worst by far in that respect but I just like better if it's possible. Also it's $100 in two parts. If it looked better I'd have no problem with that. The HD2 mount was 70 I think but it served the entire lifespan of my og evo and now works for my gn2 so that 70 is pretty good by now.
The new ibolt one? Blech. Well it looks a little better than most commodity universal mounts. The aluminum rails are at least cooler than the usual all black plastic. But to me it's only a slight improvement. It's still a generic crappola universal gps/phone clamp like all the rest. It's one unique feature is the special usb cable that will trigger smart dock mode. But thanks to Samsung there is no distinct car mode detection, just smart dock mode. So if you assign that to a car home app, you get the car home everywhere i cluding your desk and nightstand. We can use nfc tags and get a better result than that with no special cable. So it's back to being a completely generic, ugly, inconvenient, holder.
The next best option I've seen is this universal one that has springloaded grabber arms, but they have it set up for one handed operation. The arms are open when the dock is empty. When you put the phone in it presses a button that releases the arms to close on the phone. It's surprisingly secure. I shook the mount all around trying to shake the phone free.l and it didn't budge. When the arms close, two buttons pop out at the same time opposite each arm, on oposite sides of the phone. To release the phone you just grab the phone, and your thumb & forefinger are already right there on those two buttons. Press the buttons together and that opens the arms. So you are releasing the phone and grabbing the phone in the same motion. It works quite well. No usb built in but the port is exposed to use your own cable. Looks are fair. They are are thin and unobtrusive compared to many and there's only two arms on the sides and two resting pegs on the bottom. You could hack those rests right off and it would work exactly as well and look significantly neater. Suction cup base. It's called Smart Tap.
Another option is someone Someone on xda here came up with a pretty clean hack of the original note mount. No filing, just a little heat gun softening.
I never heard of Mountek so thanks for the clue I'll check it out.
There is really no "good" solution for the this phone yet.

I ordered one the "iMagnet Cradle-less Magnetic Mount with Quick-snap Technology". It should be here tomorrow. I'd post a link, but I haven't gotten enough posts in to get that ability, even though my account is pretty old.
It's one of the magnetic mounts. You stick a metal disk on your phone/case and bam. Has good reviews, so I thought i'd give it a try.

yeah i saw a couple bad reviews on that as well so it kinda turned me off, i'd rather get something that's more secure.
i really like the ibolt cable, not a big fan of suction cups either so the mountek looks optimal if only i could get that cable separate i might just end up getting ibolt because of the cable
you guys have given some really good insight,i will check out the hd2 as well and see if i could get that to work haha.
about the smart dock mode, i don't have any other dock elsewhere so that's not an issue for me, but it doesn't go into dock mode if i plug in usb to connect to the computer or plug it into my charger does it?
I just got the iOtti mount for mine. I LOVE it!

Not sure where you are located, but I guess we are far away from summertime to test it out if it stays stuck to the surface? I was looking at this case as well, until read in another forum about people having issues with a sticky part of the suction cup especially when it gets hot outside. Maybe it was a defective batch or whatever. That kind of put me away from buying it, plus I was waiting for Arkon to release their slim grip ultra mount with a sticky suction cup I actually have it coming my way next week and will review it once I get it. But I don't think it has any release buttons, etc. like their other grip mount I had for my DX. I guess I'm still on the fence until I get it and test it out. But I'm definitely glad iOttie is working out for you! I just wish they would drop "i" cause I'm sure a lot of android people buying their mounts as well lol!!!
The one from iOttie on amazon is worth every penny it works too well lol make sure where you it is where you want it cause it sticks like rubber cement!

So once you release a suction cup latch you have to pry it off the dash board with a butter knife? Will it take off dashboard textured layer or so? Not sure if you were kidding or serious about it sticking like cement

He is not kidding. Read the Amazon reviews. This thing sticks to anything and the quick release is a GOD sent. It's SO easy to take the phone in and out of the mount, and once you put it in the mount it isn't going any where. Lots of adjustable settings. I LOVE it.
On my previous mounts I didn't even use them that often (only when I needed GPS), but this thing is so easy to take in/out that I do it every time I drive the car. It is worth every penny for sure!
I used my 50% off at Samsung.com and got the universal there. Loving it.

Just got one of these CHEAP, but GREAT slim cases for the N7. I wasn't looking for a case, but when I saw AndroidPolice review it, I jumped on it because of the price really lol.
My take: It's awesome for $4USD plus shipping. Now Amazon is selling it for $5USD plus shipping ($3 in the US). So basically now for $8 bux, this case with free stylus/pen is shipped to you from the USA (for US peeps that's awesome not waiting a week or more for deliveries from overseas).
I have used it for a day and with my 4 year old last night. She found it ok, but she liked the prop up stand on the Seidio Active case better, even though the Seidio made the N7 a bit heavier than I would liked. Don't get me wrong, I still love the Seidio case, just for not everyday use. I intend to use the Seidio for travel.
As for this Ultra slim case, it is true to it's listing. Coming from a bit bulky Seidio case to this is night and day. Yes you don't get the same protection, but the slimness cannot be ignored. Mine is white, well off white, more like French Vanilla ice cream lol. So if you get a white backing or front face, it will NOT match. What you see on the Amazon and Android Police review is what you get. It's true to the pic.
All the holes line up perfect, but also has a hole in the back as well for no reason at all lol. I think the design was for something else but was scrapped. Maybe it was for another device and they changed the design to fit the N7. Maybe it was meant for the ipad mini? Dunno. That whole in the back has no real use. Other than that, all the openings and cutouts are fine. The speaker cutout is perfect and the case flips open without an issue and the bonus, a magnet in this slim thing. I like it that you can't see it in this case. There is only one way to flip the case to have it stand, but you can manipulate it to prop it up to type down as well if you play with the folds a bit.
And to the fold/front flap, this is just like all the slim type cases out there. It will protrude a bit at first, but upon more usage, the bend should subside. There is also a stylus holder on the back. I personally don't use styluses but its there if you need to use it with the free stylus they give you.
My ONLY con is to this case is that when I first got the case, after cleaning the N7 and installing it into the case, it didn't catch in all the corners. Because of that, the front flap wouldn't close. I thought to myself, crap, I have to get a replacement? But I didn't give up on the case lol.
I made it fit lol. The reason why it didn't fit is because of the felt lining in the back where it houses the N7. The backing overlapped one of the ridges where the tablet snaps into the corner and because of that it didn't sit and line up. What I did was snapped 3 of the 4 corners and when I came to the one that wouldn't snap, I used the front flap to gently push down in the corner to snap into place. Now it's held in there real tight and flush. It's not going anywhere. Now YMMV because the felt lining may not be an issue for you or the lining could totally messed up the corner. But for me, this quick trick worked.
As for pics, let me know if you want them but the pics listed in Amazon and Android Police link below has all the pics you really need. :good: It comes in a few colors. As of now (3/26/13), the available colors is the white, blue and grey. At the time of ordering, there was purple IIRC, but I my second choice would have been the grey one. .

question. Does the front flap auto turn the tablet on and off? and does it have a magnetic strip or something that holds the front flap shut so it doesnt open when turned upside down etc?
Looks quite nice. If anything happens to my poetic case I'll be sure pick this one up.

Yes the front flap does. Sorry I did mention it did have a magnet/magnet strip, but failed to state that the magnet works in that way. But it does NOT have anything to keep the cover shut. There is no catch at all. You can use a rubber band if you want, but not really needed in my case. I carry my stuff in a powerbag messenger bag.
I saw this case on Android Police as well and really liked the look of it, though at the time it wasn't shipping to Canada at all. Took another look, and it is now! Sadly though I paid more in shipping than I did for the case, but it's the first case I've seen that I actually like the look of so $15 is a small price to pay! I got mine in blue.
That sucks for the shipping to Canada!!
As for the "hole" in the back. I read that it's used for assisting to grip the tablet, which I can see, I guess lol.
Don't know which N7 you have, but would you happen to know if the mic holes are clear for a 3G nexus? One hole is an inch above the power button, the other us just about halfway down the left side, if you count the dots from the corner it's between the 23rd and 24th one, or between the 12th and 13th one up from the last dock pin.

Great question! I have the first gen wifi only N7 so I cannot absolutely say, but I took pics to explain if it works or not. Based on what you said, the mic hole looks like it will be covered above the power button, but the pogo side is pretty much free and clear. Again please take a look at the pics, they would most likely answer your question.

Thanks for the PSA. That looks nice and the price is good.
Do you think it could be used with a dock? Maybe not the official dock, but a DIY that uses the pogo contacts. Or do I worry needlessly about wear and tear on the micro USB port, and I should just prop open the case and plug/unplug the factory charger as needed.
The only thing I worry about the design is the side that rests on the table when it's open is the side that touches the screen when it's closed, and the tables at coffee shops aren't always clean. Maybe I'm worrying needlessly again.

I have been using the USB port since I got my N7 back in July (wow it's almost a year?! lol) and no issues with the USB port for me. And I religiously charge my stuffs when I can get to a charger lol.
As for using a DIY pogo dock, I guess you can if you have the pogo receptors in the dock that can protrude out and act like a plug to the pogo on the N7. But I guess you can try it out lol. You don't need to prop open the case to charge. There's openings where it needs to be.

Well don't put it on a dirty table...problem solved lol....
For those situations, and if you frequent areas like that, your better bet is the Seidio Active case where you can just wipe off and not worry about stains (on the black version anyways lol). Or even a cheaper tpu alternative.
Hmmm which color should I get? Which do u think would look good with the black carbon dbrand kp?

Well for black CF, you should go pink all the way.
Seriously, for black CF, I would go grey (when they are in stock again) or even blue. They do have black as well if you want to go with the easy route but again, not in stock yet.
Well the french vanilla white would be ok as well. For me and the CF, I'd go black or grey.
EDIT: One thing though DTJB. Because you are getting the CF back and Front as well I am guessing, this case may not fit. The case just fits as it is and if you are adding the dbrand back, it may be too thick, believe it or not. Sorry man.

Ever since the kindle fire days, I never liked the cases with the overlapping "fingers" that grab the tablets. They look tacky IMO. But YOU may like them LOL. Anyways that's what I got. :silly:
I read somewhere that while the magnet on this case successfully unlocks the screen when you open it, it will also lock the screen on you when you fold the cover around behind the tablet to hold it in one hand. Can you comment on this issue?
Thanks.

I have heard of this as well, but that was the first thing I had tried and no, it never happened to me and I have tried to purposely do it with the flap back.
Great, glad to hear it.
The other question I have: several people on Amazon reviews mentioned a similar problem to what you described about the case being tight and having to force it in to get it to snap into place. A few of them went so far as to say it was so tight that they noticed discoloration and/or backlight issues with the tablet display in the corner in question, due to the physical stress imposed by the case.
Have you experienced any such concerns?
Thanks.

Nope. They may have put too much force in the corner to do so, but I don't have that issue. I would have blasted the case if that happened lol.

Hello!
So I am searching for the perfect car holder for dashboard for the HTC M8.
The official one is very expensive and of course it will be limited for M8 only (no future phone)
So I have found 3 interesting models online all universal and one handed usable:
Anyone tried one of these?

I'm about to try this one: http://www.amazon.com/Clingo-Univer...ie=UTF8&qid=1399708629&sr=8-5&keywords=Clingo
Just waiting for delivery.
Tip: The Brodit passive Car Mount for SGS3 fits also the M8.
Anyone have any other good car mounts they've used with the M8, preferably with a case? That doesn't obstruct the cameras?
The Clingo has poor reviews, they all say after a couple months the green sticky stuff comes off on everything
I've tried 2 previous versions of "EXOMounts" and both had horrible suction, couldn't hold my EVO 4G lte caseless. Weights far less than the M8.
The OSOMount isn't even released yet, not willing to be another guinea pig.
The KitAnywhere looks sketchy at best, its holding an iPhone and doesnt appear it has much more give.
The Arkon looks ok, and is slim, but will it hold the weight of the M8, and not let it go when driving over bumpy surfaces? Will be driving a large box truck soon and need to make sure it can take a shakin and not drop my precious
The Arkon has really good reviews, just would like a hands on opinion from someone with a M8.
Thanks in advance!
I just ordered a Mountek. I had been considering getting one of these for quite a while. I really like being able to attach it inside of your cd slot. Just a note though... they have two versions, a clamp down version and a magnetic one. My first thought was to get the magnetic one since our phone is metal, duh =P. But aluminum is not magnetic, and since I prefer a clear case for my phone, the metal plate would look pretty horrible inside of it. So, if you are using a case that is not clear, I would suggest getting the magnetic one, otherwise get the clamp version. There are plenty of other types of mounts though. But for my particular car, a dash or window mount would be up a bit too high for my taste.
If interested, I can post some pics of the mountek with the M8 once it gets here.
I'm using the 'classic' Mountek nGroove Grip, and it's perfect. You have to remove the bottom legs to get access to the headphones jack and the microUSB port, but the grip is strong enough to hold the phone even without it.
What I like about it is that it keeps the phone close to me and facing directly at me (as opposed to farther under the windshield where you have to lean down to use it or stretch) - and also it doesn't obstruct your view - it's perfect, really.
If you don't wanna give up your CD slot it also fits into just creases in your dashboard.
Highly recommended!
I'm definitely interested in seeing pictures of the Mountek mount and hear about opinions, if the M8 can be mounted in landscape mode and if it keeps the phone stable while driving. Appreciate it!

I have actually this holder http://www.maisondugsm.com/a/produit/produit/1852246/support_auto_avec_ventouse_pama_windscreen_couleur_noir_pour_htc_one_m8.html but one of the side doesn't have rubber or soft plastic so it will scratch my M8 with time so it need both hand to put the phone and pull it without scratching it.
About the Exomount suction, I am planning to stick it to my actual disk pad which has double sided 3M sticky paste to stuck on my dashboard,it's the red thingy on the picture.
Though I wonder if its worth 45$ with delivery charges...
Edit: I have found a tailored made holder for the M8 though I wonder if it won't scratch the phone borders as it doesn't look rubberized where it ''clips'' and it will definitely need the disk pad too for the dashboard mount.

I use both the Tetrax Ego and Fix in my car - Ego for summer when I want the phone mounted over an air vent to keep the battery cool (LONG drive from the South to Upstate NY using GPS and/or playing music) and the Fix for winter/daily driving.
No, you won't be able to use the camera while it's mounted (due to the dash being in the way) but it holds my devices rock solid. I've never had it fall off, even with a charging cable plugged into it. I started using it with my Incredible, and used it with the Thunderbolt, the ReZound, the M7, and now my M8. The M7 and M8 I use/d caseless (though I have a skin on the M8, don't want to scratch this beauty) and it holds perfectly. It does require adhering a small button on the back of the device, but this also has helped keep the camera from getting scratched when I lay it on it's back on a table.
The M8 with a case on it might need the XWay or the FixWay (made for larger devices, they have stabilizing rubber "feet" in an X pattern radiating out from the magnetic piece.)
Really can't recommend these enough. They hold perfectly, and are VERY unobtrusive when not in use.

Sorry, don't have pictures of the holder with the device in it.
I'll just note that the holder is adjustable, you can place it either this way or upside down (it swivels 360 degrees), and the grip is adjustable and strong (I actually got my Nexus 7 to fit in it!)
It can easily be turned aside to landscape, and is VERY stable (you can adjust its rigidness).
I used a Mountek in my old car. The felt lining along the CD slot crumpled up and never looked the same again. Depending on how much that bothers you, you might want to avoid them. I'm thinking of getting a ProClip this time around. It uses a suction cup, which goes on a separate dashboard mount that clips into place somewhere on your dash; where exactly depends on your car and what they've made for it. I read a Honda Accord forum; for that car at least, it's supposedly as stable as can be.

Ok so I must decide between Osomount Quick Grip which looks more solid than the U Grip and the iOttie HERE
My main goal is to have a one handed friendly holder, not bulky and of course not falling
I'm going to order the Arkon, after seeing the review here and the reviews online are all really good. It'll also fit my phone with case, and not block the camera. After some run ins with drunk off duty cops, telling me to get out my car and fight (lol), I like the idea of being able to record out the windshield, or front facing camera without obstruction. Will update with a review after I get it and use it for a few days or so. Thanks for all the reviews / suggestions here

I went ahead and ordered the Mountek nGroove Snap 2 (http://www.mountek.com/shop/categor...i-use-car-mount-smartphones-and-mini-tablets/).
I drive a 2013 FR-S and suction cups have an incredibly hard time sticking to the surface of the dash. I also like that it doesn't obstruct the view of the windshield and it's much more minimal than their Grip mount. I have two TPU cases, one clear on the back and another all black. Figure I'll just apply the extra magnetic blade to the back of the case I'll use in my car.
Once it arrives, I'll share my impressions along with some pictures.

Yep they have an official one and very pretty but it costs a leg and an arm (above 70$) for a holder you will throw next year when the M9 will be out
I bought this a few years ago for my Sensation and have used it on many phones with and without cases since: http://www.proclipusa.com/phone-hol...ble-holder-with-tilt-swivel-875214-18871.cmsv
I've used it on the Sensation, GS3, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, One (M7) and now the M8. All with and without cases (you just have to adjust it)
Again, it's adjustable and works perfectly with my M8 and my Seidio Surface case. You have to purchase the mount to go with it. It is expensive but you'll never have to buy another car mount again.
Just got my Mountek grip yesterday. Here are some pics with and without the M8. Sorry for the poor quality of the ones with the phone in the mount. They were taken with an S3.

Nope. Doesn't hit any buttons, but does obstruct some of them. Not really a big deal for me, but might be for others. Obviously it also depends on the car, and where you decide to place it. It doesn't have to be mounted in the cd slot. It can be mounted in other crevices. I'll probably test it out in some other spots and see what I prefer.
