You can install Overcome 2.0 Gold. It's Gingerbread ROM based on 2.3.3. Please do read the instructions very carefuly. Go here for the installation guide. It's very well done.

i originally fudged my tab and fixed it with http://www.thegalaxytabforum.com/index.php?/topic/443-how-to-flashing-euro-firmware-on-samsung-galaxy-tab/[/URL] im wondering if my tablet is rooted or not as it states
Basically is you’ve never installed a custom ROM before, if your Tab is running the stock ROM or if you’ve installed a ROM from samfirmware.com, it’ll be best to look at this preparatory steps below, especially if you’re coming from the stock Froyo 2.2-based ROMs:
* Your Tab must be rooted. (Please look for SuperOneClick root method as it’s usually the safe bet! But for more information on rooting, please refer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367)
* IF YOU’RE FROM A 2.2.x/Froyo-based ROM: You are not using protected bootloaders! Just to be sure, please go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 and download the bootloader patch apk. Install it and patch your bootloader!
(Don’t assume you’re might not have protected bootloaders! Just download the patch and test it, if this is the first time you’re using Overcome! It’s not a big file to download…)
(NEW EDIT/WARNING: If you’re already on Gingerbread… DON’T TOUCH THE BOOTLOADER! I REPEAT: DON’T TOUCH THE BOOTLOADER!!! The note above was for Froyo-based users that want to upgrade to Overcome ROM 2.x only)
* You must have the proper drivers installed. Your best bet, if you’re coming from the stock ROM, is to have the Samsung Kies software installed and connected at least once.
and was wondering if i could brick it as that step is the only confusing bit (the rest im confident in doing just not this bootloader bit
It is stated in the instructions that if you're coming from Froyo, you must patch the bootloader before flashing 2.3.3. Just follow the link I provided in the previous post and read about bootloader.
Basically:
If coming from Froyo: download bootloader patch and install it then follow instructions to flash Gingerbread.
I hope this helps

Question re. rooting a UK Tab

Hi all,
Tesco in the UK are selling the 7 inch Galaxy Tab for £149, down from £399, so had to buy one.
I'd like to root it but not sure if it is one of the rootable Tabs.
This is the information from About Device:
Model number: GT-P1000
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWJP9
In the Mobile network type it says HSDPA
Is this Tab rootable, and if so, which method should I use, and which files do I need to download?
Many thanks
Gaz
Hi Gaz.
I managed to get one last night from tesco too.
Just rooted it using the method on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367
Very easy.
Now I'm on the hunt for a decent custom rom, but need to install recovery first :s lol

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you rooted it before updating the ROM to Gingerbread in kies. You would have been running the original Froyo ROM, which I believe the method above works for. I don't think it works with Gingerbread.
I don't want to install a custom ROM, just want more control for backing up, removing bloatware, etc.
Thanks
Gaz
You're right (sorry I had missed you had Gingerbread right out of the box). I rooted the stock Froyo version, then updated to Gingerbread via the Samsung Kies updater.
Then I re-reooted using the following:
http://www.review-ninja.com/2011/08/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-gingerbread.html
Very simple and works for GB ;-)
Thanks for the link. Nice to know it works. If it works on yours it should work on mine; I just wasn't sure which of Chainfire's kernels to download as he lists several here on XDA and none seemed to match my Tab. I'll give it a go.
Cheers
Gaz
That worked a treat.
Thanks for your help. Always safer to check before doing this as it would be embarrassing if I'd bricked a 1 day old Tab!
Great value at £149. Thank you Tesco!
Glad you're sorted
Yeh kinda impossible to take it back for an exchange if you brick it, seems like the stock is well and truly gone now.

[Q] help to root galaxy s i9000

hi folks ive not done a samsung phone for a while and looks harder than ever to root so if some body would be kind enough to point in the right direction on how to root my phone. details below
Model number
GT-I9000
Firmware verion
2.3.3
baseband version
I900XXJVO
KERNAL VERSION
2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVO-CL182937
[email protected] #2
build number
GINGERBREAD.XXJVO
would also like to put an up to date stable and reliable rom on it as i had an xperia and i had all sorts of problems with bugs and crash issues.
Treat me as a noob as its been some time and im back to the android world after owning a nightmare iphone that i jailbroke so know my way round phones
I'm a rookie myself, so here is what I read and it helped me with my first steps. I did follow those steps and went for Cyanogen ROM at start.
Take a look at "Installing the ClockworkMod Recovery" section. After you installed CWM, everything else is piece of cake.
Download cf-root for your phone. Cf-root is in development section. You will need the cf-root with jvo in the name. I. E. Last three characters of your build number?
Also download odin from sammobile.com. You need to register but it's free.
Once you have root and if you want cm then that will is good.

Send it back to three, this happend to me a few months ago and now ive just rooted my phone and thats about it... Im gonna wait till theres more stable developement.
@OP : You can Google for your stock rom. Shouldn't be hard. If you are planning to flash gapps , choose gapps for gingerbread.

I ended up using 5830i XXLA2 PDA XXLK1 MODEM and BTULK1 CSC Works fine with these!
I am hoping to secure an S2 from a friend when he upgrades next month so I am looking forward to AKOP or CM10 or some hybrid of them like P.A.C who knows but I have more experience in Android now and I can have some funky fun with the 5839i now xD Lost count how many times I have bricked it due to experiments while I learn!
Even managed to Format the EMMC to Ext4 and install a rom I cooken in dsixda kitchen and use latest kernel from our friend in Rio using the CWM version of the kernel. Next on my list is making a kernel.
I learn by breaking stuff and its fun normally fixing it.
No matter how messed up it can get I can always restore the stock fw from samfirmware or the custom frankenstien split pack I 'assembled' *cough*
