[MOD] Drivelink (Mirrorlink) Full Mirroring - Galaxy S III Android Development

j0ep0 and I are currently working to get the mirroring that we were promised working with Drivelink and the Galaxy S III. Currently we have mirroring working successfully but there are a few bugs with the Drivelink app getting wiped and restarted. Here is a list of everything so far:
Full Mirroring without the drive link app resurfacing - Working (random restarts due to memory cleanup in android)
Work with Any Launcher - Currently Nova and Apex work
Reassigning the Home button -
Bypassing the two warning Messages -
Compatibility with Non-touchwiz Roms-
Compatibility with Other Devices -
Dim or turn off Phone screen when mirroring-
Automatically go into launcher (minimizing drivelink) -
Currently the setup we have is working for the following devices:
GSM Galaxy S III
CDMA Galaxy S III (No Data)
If it is working on your device please post, or PM me with the Following:
Carrier
Phone Model
Any Bugs
Rom/Kernel (If custom)
Installation Instructions:
Code:
Non-root:
Go into Settings and Enable "Install from Unknown sources"
Install the APK and run it.
Plug into your head unit and pray.
This method has worked for some (including myself) and not for others.
It will give you the standard Drivelink app and
no custom code by us, you need root for that.
Rooted users:
Download the TMServer zip to your Phone
Reboot into recovery and install (Like a ROM)
No need to wipe anything, you're just replacing
a system APK which is why you need root.
Install the Drivelink APK after enabling Unknown sources.
Run the Drivelink app and plug your phone into the head unit,
After accepting prompts you should see the drive link app.
There are several ways to get to your stock home screen but the easiest for me is to hold your home button down the bring up task manager, Click on another open app, when it opens hit the home button and viola, you're at your home screen. We are trying to find a way to bypass this but drivelink puts the phone into car mode and that disables the home button. Car mode is required to get the audio to route correctly to the head unit.
Here are the Links:
TM Server- Must be flashed in a custom recovery:
TMServer
Drivelink- Remove all versions, allow unknown sources and install this apk:
DriveLink
Both j0ep0 and myself have full time jobs and families so we are working very hard to get this working on our own time. So please be patient. We will get this working fully!
Nice description write up by Olywa123, Thanks
What is it
Drivelink is Samsung's application used to facilitate ‘Mirrorlink’ connectivity with supported car headunits. Currently their are several aftermarket car stereos by Sony, Alpine, and JVC that support this technology. The majority of users here have the Sony XAV-601BT headunit but it is believed the protocol for connection is the same for each. This standard is known as Mirrorlink (formerly Terminal Mode) and uses the VNC RFB3.8 protocol allowing for two-way communication between the smartphone and headunit over a usb connection for both display duplication and key-inputs and uses Bluetooth A2DP for Audio.
Videos
The following videos best provide a summary of this technology
Mirrorlink Overview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWNpK...eature=related
Example of MirrorLink on XAV-601BT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsT1l8bLOfU (shows Nokia and Samsung phone support)
Example of Drivelink App: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHVmogapY9U
Why The Drive Link App needs Modification
Although Samsung have released the Drivelink application, this is not only very limited but also compatible only with the Galaxy SIII currently. It provides a ‘dashboard’ interface allowing for the use of only stock Music, Phone and Navigation (limited to Google maps) functionality. You cannot get back to your phones home screen or run any other apps while Drivelink is running/mirrored on the headunit and killing Drivelink kills the interface meaning the stereo no longer sees and mirrors the phones display. This appears to be a restriction coded into the Drivelink software as the video above shows that the Nokia interface allows for full phone control in addition to just the Nokia released Mirrorlink app on Symbian (Car Mode).

I haven't been following my other thread lately but you mention here you have CDMA version working without data. I'm in verizon gs3. How do I get this baby running even without data? I tried flashing that tmservice.zip abiut a week ago with no luck. Is this one a revised version ? I will try again anyways thanks

Something like this. Except the goal here is to have full mirroring of the launcher and everything that's on the phone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHVmogapY9U&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Checking in for updates as the U.S. siii gets more progress (especially with cm10).

Verizon galaxy SIII with CM10 nightlies, and this is my result.

Updated OP with more information

Question... do you have to flash tmserver if you are using a rooted touchwiz rom?
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2

If you use Touchwiz based Rom, first check in /system/tmserverapp.apk exists. If it is there, just install the DriveLink apk. If it's not, install this TMServer: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?3926b2kuewyn84i.
(the one in OP is a test version).

So can I use Sony XAV601BT with a Verizon running CM10 nightly on 4.1.2
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Drive Link works on CM10, but the screen mirroring app doesn't.

3 weeks or so and I should have my Verizon Note 2 and will be back in this for some testing. assuming it doesnt just work right off.

it works! thanks!
but if I run Temple Run game, the USB link will fail.
I guess the memory killer may kill the tm server that cause USB link fail.
BTW,
I remember the USB link requires the CDC/NCM support in kernel or the mirrorlink cannot be activated, correct?

Eureka!
Installed the DriveLink APK from the first post.
Carrier: Verizon
Phone Model: Samsung Galaxy SIII SCH-I535
Any Bugs: None that I could tell. I only played with it lightly for 15 minutes
Rom/Kernel: JellyWiz Stock [VZW LEAK] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853337
Results:
So what does the leaked VZW have that CM10 doesn't? Because I can't stand TouchWiz anymore after months with CM10.

Nice to see that my mod is working for you
You're answering your own question, VZW is Samung based and has the Touchwiz framework. You can always switch launcher to Trebuchet or Nova to get a less "Touchwiz" sensation.

Strange... there must be something with that rom. I could never get my VZ S3 to work, but i never tried a jellybean rom.

read the sony thread. seems the device authentication is by key. i'm assuming the mysterious device identifier component is in that key. but i'm also assuming that the key code is closed on both the client and server. but just wondering if you've looked at that yet, j0e0p? if i recall you don't even have the deck?

To do a little braindump, I've checked in /system/security/security/cacerts but can't find much differences between the several ROMs. In the code of the Drive Link app there are some checks in build.prop to identify the device but if that's really restricted the app shouldn't work on the Verizon as that device id isn't in the code. Finally I've found some references to the bootloader/kernel. That might be the cause.
I don't have the deck, the keying part isn't published in the source code from Sony and mirrorlink doesn't seem to be working on the latest XXDLJ4 (rooted) for i9300 which I'm running as my daily driver. Maybe someone could confirm that?

(3 August) Unofficial CM 10.2 for Pollux_Windy (Wifi Only)

Unofficial, no warranty, express or implied. Not final, nothing to do with the CM people, not backed by them, not made by them, may cause corruption of innocent kittens if used irresponsibly. I am posting this only because the main CM sources are not perfect right now for building for Qualcomm devices just yet, and need some tweaks in new branches.
CM 10.2 Android 4.3 built for, and working on Pollux_Windy, once again thanks to Sony using such nice, open-source-friendly devices.
Working:
WiFi
Compass + sensors
Sound
Bluetooth
Front + Rear Camera
External SD (including ExFAT)
Not Working:
GPS
This is for the Pollux_Windy (SGP311) Wifi ONLY tablet. It should work on the SGP312 (32 GB wifi only) as well, but will NOT work on the Pollux (with LTE).
http://goo.im/devs/pulser/TabletZSGP311/CM10.2/cm-10.2-20130810-UNOFFICIAL-pollux_windy.zip
Tried to flash this but i'm getting an error about device build prop not matching requirements. I had a 312 rom on first, and flashed a 311 stock rom, but still get the error. My device is 311 by default.
Do i need to edit my build.prop? Even though my device shows as SGP311?
EDIT: Ah nevermind, i had the stock bootloader still installed. Doh!
If anyone needs Gapps I found them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2378992

Updated to 30 July build - includes the new Focal camera app. Yes, it has a few bugs with tablets and orientation. It's known.
Is root possible yet? I tried the supersu zip that was attached in op, but still needs the binary according to the supersu app. Do we need to adb push the binary?
Edit: Nevermind, just tried the latest supersu and works fine.
I can't get a restricted user to work for the life of me. All kinds of processes are force stopping and I couldn't pick trebuchet from the list on setup either, though I did manage to work around that with Apex eventually, though Apex kept crashing too.
I assume apps might have to support this (or at least launchers?) But core processes?
I did dirty flash so it's possible that has something to do with it.
Still digging around. I'll clean flash later to retry restricted users too.

Restricted profiles are not tested or a priority right now in CM I believe.
Got this working on my xtz SGP311 seems really quick so far recovery plays nice, only real issues I've encountered is that the screen flickers black every now and then using the aosp browser and MX player pro doesn't work as android 4.3 isn't supported yet which has nothing to do with the rom.
WiFi and GPS seem to working used google maps to find a location and navigate there had no issues with those yet.
Definitely something different over the Sony ui and less cluttered just need the sony remote
Gonna have a play with it and see how I get on with it lots of options to play with hehe

Check out the project by @Apache14 that brings infrared remote control support to non Sony ROMs!
Are you sure gps is working? I don't think it should be in this ROM...
I had a go at the open source IR by apache but had no luck getting it to work, but I'm not sure if I installed it right.
I'll have another play with GPS today as I've got more time and let you know I could have jumped the gun on this one lol. I quickly downloaded an app called GPS test and although it says the GPS is on it doesn't show anything else like coordinates or location I'll keep playing for now though.

Thanks a lot for throwing this together... everything seems to be working great, I'm impressed by focal.
I'm still struggling with is the absence of tablet UI (trying to hit the home softkey in landscape is impossible, so I've been forced to full!screen, which is working well), but it's a small price to pay for the jump from Sony's 4.1.2 to a functional 4.3 Rom.

Interesting. Out of interest, how do you use your tablet ? I'm just trying to work out if there is any link or difference - personally I thought the same, that tablet was good, until I used my Nexus 10... Then I was "sold" - tablet UI was sub-optimal. I tend to use the tablet with 2 hands - one holding it, another free across the top for use. I find keeping navigation to the centre more logical personally, and more ergonomic. It also keeps the notification tray at the top, consistent with the phone. At other times, I use the tablet as a "monitor" and type with a Bluetooth keyboard, where I do not interact with the touchscreen much (except at arm's length), and find phablet UI quite convenient. Moreso than I felt with tablet UI.
It's intriguing though. I am sure I can look at readding it some time, but I'm fairly busy so it will take a while. I noticed Sony seem to be moving to phablet UI for 4.2 as well though...
I hold mine on the sides and mostly interact with my thumbs, thus central on screen controls are hard to reach. But, to each his own. I also use Thumb Keyboard exclusively on my tablets, much more natural than trying to type with one hand holding with the other.
so yeah i finally got around to testing the GPS navigation and it just says "Searching for GPS" the whole time so confirmed its not working.
i also found a issue with the swipe to type on the AOSP keyboard as soon as i tried to use swiping it force closed the keyboard, not a big issue just thought id mention it.
i noticed you've done a couple of updates as well whats the best way to update the rom just flash as usual using the file in op?

Just like with CM nightlies, just flash the latest update right over whatever you have.
In rare cases other changes will be needed, maintainers will usually let you know in these cases.
I'm investigating GPS on 10.1 on the windy - it's proving to be a bit of a headscratcher, although it has many of the hallmarks of the same problem we had with the modem on mint (Xperia T) months ago. Unfortunately, we can't use the same fix/workaround we used on mint.
pulser, may want to check the CM10.1 thread for my SMD debugging patch, might give some useful info - although what I need to do is get a build environment together for stock kernels so I can apply that patch to .370 for comparison.
i hate to sound like a noob but i am still learning lol is it safe to just flash the updates with cwm or is it best to do it with the flash tool?
it seems like gps has got a lot of people scratching their heads at the moment but im sure with so many looking into it there is sure to be a solution soon
Edit: its OK I went ahead and flashed the update using cwm and it worked, I'm to impatient to wait lol but at least I've learned something
Updated to 10th August build
Will you continue to tweak now that official nightlies are out?

Galaxy Gear connect TEST, HTC ONE/GG/custom ROMs

After reading xda member "Clifford's" find that his ONE connected to his GEAR with almost full functionality (thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468522) I had to do some investigations. S-voice, according to him, was the only feature that failed to function, even after installing s-voice. For you knowledge, his phone is running OMJ's 4.1.2 ROM, its not stock.
Test phone: AT&T HTC ONE (unlocked)
The following are the Roms I have tried and their outcome was exactly the same:
Gear manager.apk: first part of install completes. however, none of the 19 additional files install... not does the installer stop trying to complete
Galaxy Gear: Connects to phone for code verification, once code is confirmed, phone/device disconnect. the error is device exception.
ROMs
CM 10.1.3
Android Rev 22.0
Android Rev GE 4.0
CleanRom 5.0
CleanRom 6.0
Maximus HD 14.0
Maximus7 2.0.0
TrickDroid 8.0.0
ViperOne 2.1.0
So, needless to say, I was not only skeptical about the previous xda member's findings...I was frustrated.
So I got on the horn with some of my Dev friends and we found:
RayGlobe 8.0
HOLY S*#T! Gear installed along with the additional files. Now for the real test............(drum roll please)
Samsung Galaxy Gear paired with an HTC ONE!!!!!
Functionality:
All call functions work. Send, receive, deny, speaker/mic, end call, etc
Notifications work, but are slow
Can change watch faces
Find my gear/phone works
Not functioning (so far, will play more tomorrow):
Weather
S-voice
Media player
Gear manager is 50% functional. S-apps begins to load, but fails. Pressing on the settings button crashes GM (does restart/reconnect)
So, "I think", Sammy is intentionally keeping this device in the S-ecosystem. Why, you ask? ...............good question.........Sammy?
I am hoping with the above information, devs can work on how we can make this at least 80%-90% functional...?
Thanks for the information

The Gear acts as a BT headset and in most cases is just relaying info from the host apps of the (Samsung) phone it's paired with. You'll never get the Gear to work (properly) with a HTC phone for the same reason TW won't run (properly) on a HTC phone. Or Sense on a Samsung phone for that matter. HTC and Samsung's proprietary frameworks run too deep. And the Gear won't work on Samsung phones running AOSP for the same reason. S Voice on the Gear is so tightly interwoven with S Voice on the phone you can't clear data or disable it on the latter once the phone is paired with a Gear. And S Voice requires a network connection to work and the server does a device ID check so even if someone ports S Voice to an HTC phone the server will deny it access.

Thanks for the thanks!
Most of the above roms are 4.3. However, this seems to make no difference as I have now confirmed functionality on 4.1.2, 4.2.2 and 4.3.
The most stable rom, so far, is TrickDroid 8.0. Pretty much exactly the same r result as RayGlobe. Calls can be answered /rejected, speaker /mic are working (however, two ppl have complained about quality of my voice), call log works perfect, as does the contacts app. Find my gear /phone also works without a hitch.
I have tried multiple different ways to get s-voice to work. A couple of the roms have s-voice already built in. RayGlobe was the better rom in this respect... S-voice would run it evoked from the watch, but then went to "must agree to terms..." error (I had already agreed). But if you pressed the SV key on the phone, the watch mic takes the input.
Biggest issue... Last night when I very first got the gear.apk to install on the RayGlobe rom, I received an Gmail which was notified by the watch. Since then, I have yet to receive any notification, text/email/FB/twot etc on any rom.
The "settings" section of the Gear Manger is completely unusable. Every time I try to open settings, GM goes to black screen and crashes. My apps is pretty much the same.
All in all, I really don't care about s-voice... It would be nice to link it to G-now!?!? But if I can get the notification part working, and maybe figure out how to clean up the watch's microphone output... I would be happy.

Dude! I was so close to giving up... After 14 installs, bricking my phone twice and wasting my entire day... I had enuf! Just then I got a text from a dev friend who listened to me rant and ***** about Samsung's management! (Seems to be a common discussion these days, hmmm) but, nonetheless, I felt better.
It wasnt long after that we found RayGlobe 8.0.
BTW, I don't have a Sprint phone that I can test with... Maybe u can answer these questions...
1 do you have ANY of the notification functions working?
2. Can you control your media player?
3 have to used it to make calls as a speaker phone? Do people complain of voice quality?
4. Can use Gear Manager's "settings" and/or "my apps"?

Any updates on this? Any progress?
This is great, although we need to try identify and isolate what exactly allows the gear to pair up on certain roms and why it doesnt on others.
If its simply a matter of the APK's the gear manager is requesting to install, We could simply install those manually iv managed to extract them from the gear manager apk if anyone is interested in trying.
We all realize that the touchwiz dependent features will require touchwiz obviously, in saying that tho theres no reason why they cant be replaced with third party applications in the future.

So far I seem to have some notifications and s-voice working as long as the screen is on. Will not wake phone for entry. Getting closer but I think I could really use a seasoned Dev to get these APIs to link and function consistently
Someone please...Need N3/Gear apk's...!!!

Does anyone know any of the devs from RayGlobe? This is the only rom I getting this error, "Need to agree to T&C". When you install the sv.apk, whether you run from phone or watch the first time, no T&C request.
I wonder if that is added back in, this ONE rom could work. This rom has shown the most functionality potential so far.
However, I am worried about the notifications. Very inconsistent. No one has yet to come up with any ideas. i have pretty much converted a ONE into an S3 with the apks installed. Weird using touch-wiz on an HTC.
I don't have access to a note 3. Here's my thought, can someone who has an N3 create a DL of the apks that gear attaches itself to. Mainly the notifications, s-voice, and weather. PLEASE.... Would really be a big help.

Galaxy Gear work on older generation phone running kitkat?

I have been going through this forum trying to get my samsung galaxy S2 running 4.4.2 (CM11) to work with my galaxy gear. Tried installing gearmanager/stub but it loop at connecting to gear even though it is already paired. Can't get pass this. Anyone got this working with older generation phone want to shed some light? Don't know if you need to get your GG rooted first as it doesn't seem like you need to install any specific app on it. Is it possible to get older galaxy phone to work?
Well I guess this is a long way to get a no as a answer..:cyclops:

You can't do it the Samsung way, you would need an official 4.3+ android build from samsung for that. You can, however, try it using a little project I'm working on (porting Kitkat & Google Wear to the Gear) when it's finished, so don't abandon all hope just yet .
I got it working on a galaxy nexus. Put stub into system / app and install stub from there. Then take gearmanager.apk and change its extension to .zip extract all the apps from the zip and install them all. Then install gear manager and reboot the phone. It'll work
If your phone isnt rooted, you cant write to the system folder.

Does not work either on my Galaxy S2 running CyanFox 2.0.2 (CM 11, Android 4.4.2).
Can't run Gear Manager from XDA.
I ended up installing NULL on the Gear, so I have an Android device up and running.
Tried ATN Manager as well, but no luck in receiving notifications on the watch.

I have a feeling you may need a device with Bluetooth 4 le?
I am running with null rom on my Gear and AOKP KitKat on my Original Galaxy Note (same generation as the Galaxy 2, not sure which bluetooth version) with great results.. They pair nicely. I am able to make and receive calls hands free with Google Now launcher and offline voice recognition. I can send and receive texts via Tablet Talk without being tethered to the internet (not completely hands free but with excellent voice dictation- again with offline voice recognition). I receive notifications without having to do anything special (In fact, with Google Now Launcher, I can read the incoming text when I pull down my status bar..When I click on it, Tablet talk opens for me to respond).
While I have Gear Manager loaded, it seems to be useless to me for the most part. None of the Samsung apps seem to work with the exception of the dialer and the contacts on ver 1.6x. I recently tried to update to the latest version in an attempt to get the runtastic pro app working. While I got it running (the latest GM), all I really suceeded in doing was wiping my Gear and losing the samsung contacts app working. I would eliminate GM alltogether but I suspect that the phone application has some dependancy..lol..

Hey android01, what galaxy nexus do you have, GSM or CDMA? I have the CDMA running CM11 and can't get my Gear running tizen to pair with my Gear Manager. I have installed multiple versions of the Gear Manager. I moved the GearManagerStub.apk to the /system/app folder on my Nexus and installed it from that directory. Then I installed the Gear Manager apk's one by one and then installed the app and it doesn't connect to my Gear. Any suggestions of what else I should try? I even tried installing the apk's using adb. It connected when I was running null_23 and on the stock firmware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[GUIDE] Using Samsung Gear Fit with Nexus 5

i made a video explaining how to use the Fit on the Nexus 5. this also may work with other phones im unsure.
mediafire.com/folder/05n572epblf4v/Gear_Fit_Nexus
youtu.be/Sk0vsx6k-cU
download those files
install GR.gearmanagerstub.apk
then install gear fit update 1.25.apk
open the app and pair the fit. it should connect. you can use it like this but the update ads a few features like screen rotation.
now you need to get a samsung phone that is compatible and update the fit to 1.49
now you uninstall GR.gearmanagerstub.apk and gear fit update 1.25.apk
now install gearfitmanager1.49update.apk and gearfitinstaller.apk and pair your device. everything should be working perfectly.
i am also claiming the first nexus 5 working with the gear fit
Edit: I just found a "lite" version of s-health that DOES work. Here's the link

I haven't figured out how it get that working yet. It force closes right away. Nor have I figured out weather. But if you have a problem with notifications just go to settings > security > notification settings and enable it for the gear fit manager. Also still can't figure out how to change the time to 12h instead of 24h.

Scratch that last part. I figured it out right after I posted that. All I did was go to the clock settings on my phone and toggled 24h mode on and off.

That's awesome man. Crazy world, I discovered a very similar process with my HTC One M8 and M7. I just sideloaded the apps downloaded from Samsung's App Store onto the M8 and M7. Connected the Gear Fit and it worked. Only thing I couldn't get working was quick reply and alarm notifications. Just goes to show that it's totally possible though. Great work! I hope Samsung decides to open this up to other devices officially.

Hey dude! First thread I've found that got things working more or less! Good job and congrats on your mad ninja hacker skilz!
Question 1: Where's the video link? I'd love to see it.
Next... I just went through loading 1.25 and pairing as you described. Amazing! It worked! WooHoo!! Thanks!
During the loading process my Gear Fit decided it wanted to update it's firmware over Bluetooth.
After the update, the Gear Fit says "Software Version R350XXU0ANCF" .
Question 2: Do I still need to track down a Samsung phone and do more upgrading for the Fit's firmware or do you think it's already updated it's self as much as it needs and I can install 1.49 now?
I did try to install the 1.49 apk but at that point things fell apart and no more pairing. I went back to 1.25 and all was well. I hear 1.29 also works.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk0vsx6k-cU&feature=youtu.be thats the video its in the OP.
my fit firmware is R350XXU0BND8 which i am pretty sure is a newer version because my fit works with the app version 1.49. if there is no option to rotate the screen in the settings on the fit then you are not on the newest version.
also im pretty sure you heard that 1.29 works from me in another post. that was a typo, as far as i know there is no 1.29.
Thank you very much. I tried it out and it works!
I can also install and open the lite version of S Health. But how can i sync it now? I can't login with a Samsung account. Wh i click on the login button, nothing happens....
Thanks again.
Wohooo, you are great. I could follow your steps.
I have only 2 problems:
a) I have no supported device to upgrade the Fit to 1.49 - will have to ask around in office if somebody has a supported Galaxy. Anyway, it would be great if we could manage to get the upgrading function working so we are independent of any special device requirements... not sure, what's missing here, because as somebody earlier mentioned: when pairing it with 1.25 the first time, it downloads a huge firmware update and pushes it to the Fit who afterwards reboots... but either it didn't work or it is not 1.49
b) Have the same problem with the S-Health lite - it can be started, but it is not able to logon to a Samsung account or sync with the Fit
Anyway, this is a huge progress so far. I bought my Fit today. It was released yesterday and only one single store had it on stock - when I found your thread, I immediately rushed to the store
Thank you so much for all the details you figured out so far.

a) try going to bestbuy or another store that has them on display. They won't bother you about it. The guys at my store were trying to help! And the firmware update to 1.25 isn't an update. Its part of the fitmanager apk. There's also a firmware update in the 1.49 apk that is different. Originally I was trying to move the firmware from the new one to the old one but it wasn't working so I decided to just go to bestbuy and do it with their phones.
b) it doesn't work for me either. Neither does weather. But I'm still working on it.
And I bought my fit when it came out. I got it at the att store. At that point I didn't even know of it would work with the nexus but I decided it would be worth a shot and if I couldn't do it or someone else couldn't either then I'd just return it.
Also to the other question about notifications. Did you try to enable notification sharing in settings?
Hehe, I am really thankful that you tried and posted. You were the reason I dared to buy it. I'm from Germany, so no Best Buy. But not a problem, I work in a huge software company and there are several of these devices for internal tests available, so I may get a grip on one of them tomorrow to do the update. I am so interested to check the sleep tracker.
Notifications works for me like charm. Caller notification worked immediately, for the rest you can enable the general notifications and choose all applications you'd like to receive notifications from. I tried it with WhatsApp, it worked immediately, even showing the text including Chinese characters which are tricky. I am really happy.
As I can workaround the FW upgrade issue myself, my biggest dream would be to get the S-Health app working as this is the way to check your data and statistics. I am happy that the big display also lets you read most of this data, so it is not a total show stopper for now. We must keep in mind that it might happen that we never get the Samsung tools working. They are using TouchWiz stuff and Samsung accounts. So Samsung also would possibly not being happy that people not using their devices (that might also cross-finance the cloud servers) could use their infrastructure and trying to hinder this.

Samsung should be happy we're buying their smartwatches. i dont know if theres a way to get touchwiz on the nexus, but if you could it would probably be possible to get everything working.
is anyones working with alarms set on your phone? i cant get that to work either.
At least I can confirm: having connected it with a Samsung Galaxy S3 and Gear Fit Manager 1.49, it immediately downloaded a new FW for the Fit and now GFM 1.49 can connect to the Gear Fit and sleep tracking is also available now. Great!
would you guys say this is usable enough to buy?
Depends. For me it is. If you are not interested in alarms to wake you up and can help yourself by borrowing a compatible Samsung phone to make the firmware update and receive new functionality like sleep tracking, then you only will face one important issue:
you cannot sync the measured data to your phone, as this is done by S-Health which currently does not work. The Fit with its big display can still show you all relevant data and also historical data, so that is not a 100% no-go. But for the people who like to browse through fitness stats of past months on an app or in a browser, this is still a show stopper.

Great work man!
Works beautifully, and it seems much faster than CM11.
I may have done something wrong though; I seem to have lost root access somehow.
Edit: Never mind, somehow a reboot fixed that.
Running great so far. Still searching how to disable the volume key flip on rotate though. Haven't found any bugs yet!

Had it running. Root was all messed up and it kept erroring when I went to Superuser menu to fix it like OP. Now when I reinstall the ROM from my SD card I get Status 7 failure. Some symlinks failed.
*disregard* gotta wipe data/factory reset to make it work. Not just manually format sys data cache. Oh well... Maybe root will work this time....
Sent from my Optimus G Pro using Tapatalk
To get root access working you must go to developer options and under "Root access" select "Apps and ADB" That will make superuser functional.
Bug/Issue: 1. Settings crashes when going into Superuser and selecting settings. 2. GPS does not work. I couldn't get mapmyrun to get a gps signal.
EDIT* 3. Stock browser does not work well. When browsing a site such as google search there are black squares covering the screen. It happens as well with the google search app from playstore.
Overall, it works well
I can confirm. GPS does not work.

I was about to confirm, but saw this so will look forward to the next version.
One thing I noticed when I tried enabling the swap file with Ram Manager Free (I found that giving this phone 256MB of swap file on kernels that support it makes it work MUCH better with heavy multitasking). It seemed to enable in the app, but when I checked the memory it showed only 64MB instead of 256MB. I checked and ZRAM was not enabled. Any idea where that 64MB came from?
I'm going to like this ROM once these few issues get fixed. It's a lot like the AOIP ROM I have been using for a while.
Which reminds me, one thing that is missing that I really liked was the ability to adjust the hard buttons back light. I like to have it set so it is on whenever the screen is on. Really disliked the auto turn-off after a few seconds even while the screen is still on. Would it be possible to add the settings options like AOIP and CM ROMs have?

4.6 has working superuser and GPS should work. Try performance control with 4.6 if 4.8 is inconveniencing.
I too am thrilled to note the appearance of yet another choice in the Exhibit ROM stable.
Very reassuring to me that this ROM presents no issues FC-ing out-of-the-box. Factory reset works, too. First time in quite a while that installation on my phone needed no extra steps.
I am trying the 4.6 version to see if that helps with GPS and the other issue.

Will you let me know if gps works for you with 4.6? I've fixed superuser fc, but uncertain if performance settings caused gps conflict.
Yes, I'll let you know ASAP.
Someone else may beat me to the punch, though; I won't get back to my wifi until Tuesday.
Currently back on Dark CM. I did however make a Nandroid of Slim.
I was so impatient to fully test Slim, I manually installed most of my apps from the Play store.
You can't restore Ti backups without having root access. I thought maybe you could restore even if you couldn't create backups, but nope.
Weird as it might sound I was interested in using my non-rooted phone for a while. It's been so long since I used a non-rooted device, I wanted to see the limitations imposed.

Tested GPS on GMaps and Map Quest and I can confirm that GPS is working in 4.6.
EDIT: My mistake, @danny8 is correct. GPS is not working in 4.6. nor is it working in 4.9. When I switched to "device only", GPS did not work at all.
One bug I did want to mention is that I am receiving fc's when trying to access SlimCenter.

EDIT* 3. Stock browser does not work well. When browsing a site such as google search there are black squares covering the screen. It happens as well with the google search app from playstore.

I am also receiving these big black squares when using stock browser or Google Search in 4.6.
Well, I installed 4.6 test bed by dirty flashing on top of my setup of the original SlimKat release.
I cannot confirm GPS is working for me. (Deleted.) Update: Rebooted restored my voice service. Still messing with GPS which is not working
I confirm SU is working. Ti Backup allows me to restore apps.
I may play with this some more. Will update here if anything noteworthy pops. Otherwise rolling back to DarkCM.

Did a clean install of slimkat 4.9 and gps does not work. I used the Phone Tester app on playstore.
