Hi ALL, I'm on stock ICS 4.0.4 and would like to install the notification LED! I saw many Thread but I'm little bit confused now!
Assuming I'm rooted and CWM installed, questions is: which is the easiest way to get LED notification installed and enabled?...
THANKS!
what is led notification?
The Note has no LED, the Note 2 does
If you're referring to the Back & Menu buttons lighting up then just do a quick XDA search, Theres a few in development, But i believe it ties into the kernel, so you may have to change your current kernel

Thanks man!
Yes indeed I was referring to Back & Menu buttons lighting up of course (led is not present on Note). I already did search on XDA and basically there are 2 ways (having root + CWM):
1. to flash dedicated .zip + apk (bLED http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389394)
2. to flash custom kernel with LED support
Doubts:
related to point 1--> didn’t understand if it works on ICS 4.0.4 TOUCHWIZ
related to point 2--> didn’t understand which kernel for ICS 4.0.4 TOUCHWIZ has this feature
Abyss kernel supports it, But thats for GB...... Who uses GB any more ? lol
Also, Criskelo ROM supports it too, Not sure what kernel is included with it, but check it out, tons of people say its a fabulous ROM also, but ive never tried it.

..I think Criskelo ROM supporting BLN is GB as well....the ICS one doesn't report any BLN support...
My bad, I saw ICS turns out its just ICS themed...
I think its enabled in some CM9 / 10 ROMs.... not sure if you want to go down that route.. Also, Theres the 'forbidden' kernel which supports it, Not sure if its a TW or CM kernel tho.
Its Thor Kernel, Its not on XDA anymore cause he did not comply with the GPL, but a google search will bring it up.
Other than that im all out of ideas, Not many people want / need it so development on it is slow, Also its tricky to incorperate it into a kernel and it has its down sides too, such as battery draining and causing other bugs too..
But good luck on your quest :good: and if you do find any solution, Please share so other people can try it

Really thanks!...indeed I think only solution is to move from TW to CM9/10!...I miss the led notification (I was on Nokia before) it is extremely useful...
keep you posted!
I agree: the easyest way is flashing CM9 or CM10 with Thor kernel, then install BLN app from the market

1.It's because we don't have Gingerbread bootloaders.
2. CM7 kernels don't work
I'm confused why people are reposting the EDT ROM with basically nothing changed. Users can uninstall and install app themselves. Same goes for Kernels and Modems. None of the original bugs are solved really so I'm confused why this is the second such ROM out today.
I understand it's a great learning experience but from a user standpoint it does not contribute much. I would love when the dev uses the things he/she learned from this to make something.
PS: hayn_pryde46, this is not directed at you nor is this negative. I am very glad you decided to get into the dev game and hope you will become good at it. I'm just unsure your learning experience should be posted as a complete ROM.
why did you port this if it has like NO difference between mine? i mean seriously dude not cool.
Thank you for the previous two posts. I recently got a thread closed because I stated that the dev section is getting polluted with too many roms, which are all the same with minor changes. Im glad im not the only one

ALL he did was download my rom, and re-upload it with some more apps and a different modem/kernel. NOTHING MORE.
Yeah sorry most 98% files are new from xwjvb I just used the rom as base deleted all the files but their init.d tweaks added new build.prop and modem and kernel got mtp sync to work and maybe debugging and original music player remember reboot problems with whitehawks rom, in which he changed it to miui apk

Literally just came to post the exact thing. It seems to be a trend lately, to the point that it's getting ridiculous. The bugs that exist are pretty big, so how about we either work on those, or sit back and wait for other, more advanced devs to fix them before we start "porting" and call it our work.
I assume you don't have the ability to fix the existing bugs, so that alone should stop you when you go to open a thread for a new ROM that you know you don't have the ability to improve yourself.
I mean, then what? Someone is going to work really hard and eventually fix something, you're going to copy/paste it and call it an update? Just relax on these "ports" for now, they're not needed at this stage of 2.3.3 for the Vibrant.
so you DIDN'T tweak it as it says in your post. You give me NO credit even though you downloaded my rom (which has at least some BIG differences to whitehawks) and just replaced the files that determine the build number added a different kernel/modem and pass it off as your COMPLETE own work. Mine at least fixes some bugs his old rom had (battery drainage, made 3D gaming less sucky). Like cmon dude.

Hi,
which ROM can you recommend? I'm on DarkyRom 10.4.2 and want to change to ICS.
Is there any ROM contains tun.ko module for using openvpn or anyconnect? I can't find any information about this.
Hey,
There are so many ICS roms you can try from, we've really got great developers for our device.
My current favorite is ICS333:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618757
It's really stable and everything works!! There's even a guide to install it on the general section.. Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966
tun modules are supported by the kernel. ICS333 comes with semaphore kernel by default, which supports tun modules.. You could check and ask more on the ics semaphore thread in the development section..
For me there are only a few good ICS Roms.
The best ist Dark Knight 3.
But if you want a really stable and fast System, don`t take an ICS Rom. Take a jvt, jvr or jvz custom rom. My favorite is Tornado.
Thanks for you answer.
I've looked at many ROMS but the decision is difficult. My favorite after reading the different thread is SLIM ICS. But I'll now have a look at ICS333.
Should I use nandroid to make a backup before trying any ROM?

Yeah, making a nandroid backup would be a good idea. Although don't restore your GB Titanium backup on ICS, it will create issues.
Cheers!!

You should EVER install without settings if you change your base!

What are your reasons to go back? Was it not stable enough, or battery drain?
For now the CM9 nighltlies are working fine for me no issue.the battery is also fine runs for around 12-15 hours moderate to high use with semaphore kernel 1.1.1s.i tried a DOCMaster's rom also it also great...SLIM ICS is also good but if you are new to flashing you will have some difficulties in it since the dpi is 182 in it and some market apps wont be compatible.Onecosmic was great but since there is no new development i wont recommend it.For now CM9 with Semaphore kernel.Waiting for Gamerzrom with ICS

Exactly what i tought about ICS, until i gave TWICS a try.
I'm on TWICS 2.5, its fast, Battery fine (like Stock JVT) , no FCs., no Lags (after switching from TW4 to Apex launcher).
I use my phone mostly for calls,SMS and a little Tapatalk, no Facebook.
Don't get Faceunlock working, maybe a Face problem *g*, i don't care.
Thats my experience, other user reports some problems with Battery life, check the TWICS-Thread.

Hi!
With ALL ICS Roms on all devices i got a worse Benchscore on QS, Antutu, CF Bench and Vellamo. The "feeling" is even slower too. ALL Roms are buggy. Nice to see what is ICS and nice for flashaholics like me, but nothing for stable daily use. DK 3 is ok- no battery drain- but bugs too. The DK 4 and 5 is poor and DK 5.5 ok but slower than 3 and GB.

You seriously have no idea what you're talking about.
ICS is perfectly suitable for daily use on your phone. Not only is it smoother than GB, it looks better. And there aren't really any bugs. None that you'll see with normal use. It's perfectly stable.
Pick a ROM, any ROM. SlimICS is great; Dark Knight seems popular; CM9 and AOKP work wonders. Take your pick and never look back to the past that was Gingerbread.
I think CM9 is the best. I definitely recommend ICS as it has hardware acceleration and is sooo fast!
There's nothing like ICS isn't stable.. There are loads of roms to choose from.. I'm on ICS 333 for a week now and i haven't faced any bugs, lag or fc..
Everyone has their own views.. I think the best option is to try it out on your own n make your choice.. If you like ICS, great! If not, you can always switch back using a nandroid backup..
Enjoy!!

Doesn't matter, just flash Semaphore. It does. And it's one of the top ICS kernels.
The original release of Samsung Galaxy S [GT-I9000] has come a long way and still powerful enough to accommodate the latest Android release - Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.x.

Since today I got the official german ICS for Galaxy Note and now i know, WHY there is no really good ICS Custom Rom for any device!
ICS is the future? LOL
Only on 5 percent of android devices, months later as planned and in a few month jellybean release.

Can you guys suggest which miui rom i shoukd try? Are there miui roms of both stock and cm9 ? If yes which one to try and is there any brick bug ?

Though it seems you asked for an opinion on which one to use and it does appears that you did your homework and read up on both the main miui roms available at the moment, imo to say that there are to many complaints regarding them is a little unfair as there isn't a rom forum on here that doesn't in some shape or form have an compliant on whats not working or could be improved that's human nature.
As I really can not comment on the VengeanceNote Edition MIUI 2.8.3- v2.4 + Test builds version due the the fact that I'm not a big fan of cm9 but the rom developer (Gerrett) works very hard on improving it for being a test build (as the title suggest) so yes bugs are to be expected as in any rom. I personally do use the TMT-ver 2 and when properly flashed as per instructions it performs very well. Yes it does have a suspected kernel but being a long time miui user I flash mine from a relatively safe kernel , wipe cache, dalvik, format the system, factory reset then flash the rom and reboot, along with formatting my internal sd card and installing from scratch though it takes me a bit (1 hour or so) and everything works fine and it saves me a few headaches along the way, there are the standard things that miui themselves need to fix like the fc's in the About phone Status and in the Mobile Networks when you want to select Network Operators (these have been known issues since my S2 days) and few people have an issues with the theme manager but for me it does what I want it to. I get decent battery life being a semi-light user never less then a day and a half to 2. But it does vary on what I'm doing..
In the end to ask an opinion for what to use you'll get a variety of each individual who answers your post but what might work well for them may not apply to you and your phone so try what you like if it doesn't suit you then move on to another..

and I'm not so sure about it,any feedbacks for pros&cons for this ROM will be greatly appreciated. ]

Welcome!
That is a nice TW (stock samgsung software) based rom, with some tweaks and a diferent kernel you can make it really fast.
On the other hand, as you said you want it to look good I'd recommend you to use VengeanceNote TW, as it's MIUI over the TW base. It is fast. It is beautiful. I'm not sure about the hebrew support tough, you might want to head to the thread and ask there. The dev, Gerrett, is preetty nice and wil most definitely help you as much aas he can.
If you want to use an AOSP ( Google software ) I'd most definitely recommend you Asylum + NX Kernel. This is as fast as my note has ever been. Don't worry about everyone on the thread being crazy tough. Thay are nice after you get used to them
Anyway, good luck with your phone You'll love it

You're lucky then, I had FC on all ROMs i've used on my SGS
I've used VengeanceNote for a long time. It is very stable indeed. Only problem i could remember is that it had a duplicated root manager app, but if you opened the right one you would have no problem at all. I'm just waiting for a custom kernel to support it so i can jump back to it.
Never used Carbon Rom itself, but from what i've experienced with this all-in-one roms, they're not very stable.
I'd say if you're interested on AOSP Asylum is the way to go. It's really clean and fast. And if you don't like the all black look you can always install CM10 themes

Nop, you can use phlz for flashing, but Asylum will overwrite it with CM10 kernel. But i recommend flashing NX after you flashed the rom. It has OC support and GPU clock control. It makes things really smooth.
About the themes you can get them on play store or on some threads here on xda. A quick google search for "CM10 theme" will show you lots of results.

Ummm, actually no,my dad just recommended it to me he said PhilZ is one of the best kernels developers out there,
and that its very safe to use his recovery (maybe I didn't understand correctly but I heard there was a problem some time ago with
ICS kernels/wiping or something, and that this phone got bricked once because of that)
He also said speedmod is great, but I dunno that guy or his kernels lol.

Indeed he's a great dev, and he saved many of us from bricking our devices
On stock samsung kernels, there's a bug, that when you wipe your data partition on recovery it corrupt's the memory chip, rendering it useless. So if you are going to use stock roms on your phone, either don't wipe or stick to safe kernels.
On the other hand, the AOSP kernels don't show such behaviour and are generally safe. So if your going with Asylum, don't worry. You're safe.

No, unfortunatelly you can't add thos features on any AOSP rom. Neither those nor Snote and other TW apps.
VengeanceNote include them tough. Seems you have to make your choice
No problem man I felt lost when i've changed my phone, and if someone haven't made the same thing for me i would have probably bricked it

You can't, unless you decide to figure out how to effectively code it into the cm10.1 kernel.
This doesn't exist on any Jellybean kernels for this device.
Sorry no blinkie blinkie for joo
It's always so much harder when you have to try (David Gray).
You can use flash alerts with an app in play store called flash alerts if i remember well...

Oh man.. i have read a lots of pages here now in search of a stock Jelly Bean rom/kernel with BLN . I really want that on my Note.
But i can´t find anything up to date.
I´m now on Asylum 4.3 rom and i love it. But there is no BLN for 4.3 as far as i know.
Pure stock rom from Kies was not to my liking, buggy and slow.
So i´m asking here instead of making a new thread and hope someone will help me.
Is there a rom (I would like to try a stock TW rom that are smooth but i can go for others) that has these things?
1. BLN
2. Stable
3. Added tweaks and features. Maby even from Note 2.
4. More fluid than pure stock rom. But i would most definitely try a Kernel that has BLN on stock TW.
I´m not picky, but i prefer an answer from someone that know for sure that it´s working.
Kernel and rom together and BLN.
Thanks in advanced for answers.
//Tesla
Ps. I´m still new to my Note and i am learning.
Please don´t tell me to just "read" Link what i should read then

There is no JB ROM or kernel with bln for this device.

You sure? Only GB and ICS :/
Do you know why that is?
Can you recommend an GB and ICS with no brick bug that has BLN?
Btw.. Have you tried GB and ICS on our note?
How are they?

BLN, unless the device has been designed with this in mind, is very battery wasting. You can try the app Dynamic Notifications, since we get a Amoled screen, it's not so battery intensive:
