Which is the best ROM & Kernel for N7000 ?
Please describe based on the following ....
a) Battery Drain - Based on usage
b) How many ROMS's have you tried ??
c) What are the issues with Best ROM & Kernel ??
d) You too confused to choose the GB ROM ? Watch the Thread.
I havent personally chosen ICS coz all ROMS are in Beta Stage. I would love AOSP but for Spen Samsung apps.
I like CheckROM personally due to simplicity and Stock ROM stability. But would really love to hear from all you guys.
I have missed Cassie's Xtralite ROM, Rocket GB ROM . Please message me if you like it. Couldn't edit the poll.
LOOKS LIKE IN CUSTOM ROMS CHECKROM AND DARKYROM with Franco Kernel is Leading the Poll.
I'm pretty sure that everyone claiming awesome battery life from such-and-such kernel are just placebo. Maybe they differ a few %, but who'd notice.

I was so confused with GB rom choices that I went for ICS. Do I need to keep watching this thread as well?
I used CheckRom on my SGS II and the wifes and now on the Note. It's stable. Stability is most important. Battery life means nothing to me as I carry an extra battery, keep one at work on a charger as well and charge every night. I want to USE the phone at max updates, Maps on , BT on, GPS on, Email pushing and all updates at Min. Everything runnning.
I am on WiFI 90% of the the phones on time. I don't set the phone to turn WiFi off when screen is off. I listen to the FM radio 5 hours a day and Still get over 12 hours before the warning. PLENTY Good enough battery life. I don;t play games or watch movies unless plugged up to a Power supply. Only on cross country flights do I carry the two extra batteries.
I am running CF Root Kernel. See too many issues with new releases of others (except SpeedMod which is a great kernel but I don't really need it).
Looking forward to OFFICIAL ICS with EVERYTHING working as it should be. Will likely flash CheckRom's version as well. I can wait. I don;t like ICS theme or Touch Wiz and will likely stick with my current theme and GoLAuncher even when on official ICS

Correct me if I'm wrong but a few listed are not actually ROMs but rather kernels. Also, why no RocketRom?

What I have found is JKay ICS Domination Theme looks elegant and Less RAM consuming hence fast !
Anyhow I appreciate the fact that CheckROM is really good.
I haven't really tried other ROMS.
May be I am too behind the testers who are on ICS.
But I m just waiting for SPEN support or particularly SPen apps support in AOSP and then I am in for ICS.
CASSIE X for sure. Fast and stable

Even if you used for 10 mins continuously (watching videos) had a 1% drop it would be awesome.

I created this poll for GB Roms and I believe RocketROM is an ICS ROM now.
Sorry for not adding Rocket Rom for GB. Do u really like it ??

I Didn't really understand. But I ve edited the post seeing your response.
Does it look OK now ?
Just wondering... what's your current favorite ROM for your Nexy, and why?
I used CM7 for most of my time owning my N1. Have it almost 2.5 years now. Very enjoyable experience.
Currently using MIUI GB 2.3.30, with Go Launcher and Neok kernel. I find it very stable and offers everything I need. I also enjoy the smoother experience GB offers for our device over ICS.
I also frequently try BCM ICS CM9, but always find myself reverting to MIUI as I miss working video camera and flash. Although gap is closing fast; flash now working, and video has just arrived.
Keeping a close eye on Sense 4 ROM too
What gets your vote?
PS hats off to all the rom cookers/developers for making the N1 so much fun to own

gb = cm7>hypersense>miui>aosp in that order
ics = not much preference here but iirc I enjoyed the time I spent with TexasIce.

Cyanogenmod 7.10, most stable, best battery, most performance. I do like Sense , but it has battery drain, so no. ICS isnt complete yet, so I'm waiting for fix.

Which component of ICS that you are holding out for? I have been using ICS on a daily basis.
CM7 patched with PDroid and some solution to place apps in an dedicated partition on the SD card.
I'm currently working with both CyanogenMod7.2.0RC2 and BCMRC3.4Update1 .. I love having ICS working, but to be honest CM7 is better (i.e. more consistent and more stable) if this is your only phone.
I keep on messin' around and just assuming that one day I'll brick the device. That's OK though, a perfect opportunity to ditch AT&T once my GSM device is dead.
Anyway... here is question for you folks going back and forth between GB and ICS roms. Have you found a common internal partition size setup so you can simply nandroid restore back and forth? Or are you using BlackRose to resize each time?
i dont have a favor rom coz every 1 have some thing and not contained with other
now i'm using cm 7.2 its cool and the battery life is good
but the most thing i hate is call program (i dont know the true name) mean when someone call me his pic appear small and all that stile is ugly and cannot sync his facebook account with his name and pic
the sense roms give me a great call program and appear FB account ,....
but drain battery more and i think the camera quality is not good with all sense rom
so
1st - cm7.2
2nd - hyper supernova
ics waiting 4 stable
miui i dont like it
I usually stick with ICS layout when reverting back to CM7 or MIUI.
Now I'm back on BCM ICS

GB: cm7.2 RC - fast and stable
ICS: BCM passion - fast and many options
For those of you on BCM ICS, does it have trackball LED notification where you can set custom colors for different apps?
If not, would LightFlow work with BCM ICS? Thanks.
Haven't tried ICS yet, but as far as GB goes my fav is CM7.1

I wouldn't remember it's been months and I only bring it up because the ROM now is glitchy so I'll keep a tab on it. IF he doesn't buy a new phone beforehand.
What's a ROM you would recommend for this phone though?
recommend??? well. i have tried some roms and all were good.
cyanogenmod,oxygen1mod...
but currently i am sticking wid dis rom for 2 months nw. super stable, colorful, customisations. zero issues

I love all the ics (BCM,Texasice, and Aokp) roms each have their own customization, very fast, and quite stable most of the time. I also like some of the gingerbread roms like cm7 and miui, they are very fast and have amazing battery life. Im not a big sense guy , but with sense 4.0 in dev i will prob give it a go . In the end the rom choice is up to the user.
m so happy
Ok I been using this phone for two years or so
I loved it and had my blue days
I have struggled with a2sd and etc
However I was always unhappy with not having the sense look
And now I am using this hyper sense nova Rom and I am in love with it
I get close to ten hours battery with light to moderate usage
I have a battery caluberation problem but once I solve it ill probably not switch
I am more interested in features than looking so I prefer CM 7.2
I'm running BCM myself (4.0U1 at the moment) but I keep a backup of CM7.2.0 in case anything goes bad.
I'd like to test MIUI someday but AFAIK greek language which I need is not supported, at least for ICS-based roms.
as the title says, are the jelly bean ports any faster than stock GB on the S1 (with lagfix)?
there are thousands of posts saying they work great but none i can find that compare them to stock GB roms?
anyone?
is it worth switching?
Why don't you try an ics Rom first?!

I know what u thinking. Latest stock gb roms are nice and have smooth browser, but cm9 is even better. I've tried JW7 after few months of using cm9 and quickly returned back
I can just tell you from my experience, that at least ICS is incomparably faster than stock GB... Since JB should be even faster due to project Butter I imagine it would easily outperform GB

why would i bother with an ICS rom when JB roms are almost fully working???
Thanks for the replies. My question is would JB be faster than stock GB roms even with the limited hardware (processor/ram)?
Obviously it would be a lot faster on the nexus but how does it perform on the S1?
My stock GB is working great now, except it takes ages to open apps etc, even with the lagfix.
ICS was super fast and smooth. I thought it couldn't be better. Spread a little butter, and flash some jellybean and it is unbelievable. I can seriously compare the smoothness to that of an iphone, and we havent even made it into an alpha jellybean release yet. Expect good things!

It is weird though. My antutu benchmark scores are terribly low, around 2600 instead of 3700. Even though my phone feels faster.
Possibly cause antutu is geared towards ICS, but either way, don't be alarmed at the low scores!

I'm currently running ICS 4.0.4 on nAa-ics-03. I've tried a couple of ROMs, currently got IscreamDX. but I'm really frustrated with it.
Getting loads of lags. Apps randomly shutting down. Slow response times. It will randomly just freeze for several minutes with a black screen - no led response, nothing sometimes i'll do this when I'm running an app (camera, a game, facebook anything really) sometimes it will be in this state when I get it out of my pocket. Then it'll just start working again.
I've seen that nAa ics-04 is out. Will that make a difference or is there a ROM that is stable?
Or should I just admit that the X8 just doesn't have the hardware to run ICS and go back to an older version of android?
there is no absolute opinion.
try it yourself!
try ics-04 kernel and see if there is difeerence, and if this difference is enough for you
try some gingerbread roms and decide what suits you better!
its up to you
 Dude we don't post such questions in XDA
But anyways it's your and your decision only to decide.
How can we tell that on which rom or version you should be ?
You can stay on ICS if you like the UI
If you want performance you can go back to GB

Why I thought I'd get a sensible answer here I don't know.
I can ask this question because 1)someone might have already tried nAa ics 04 and seen it still uscks or it is much better
2)someone might have found a ROM that doesn't freeze all the time
3)saying I can't ask a question is a fascist answer

See if you want a GB rom with good performance you can try the following
GingerZaraki with alfs8 GingerZaraki= Lightweight
Gingerdx with alfs8 Gingerdx=Full of features
Use MiniCM9 if you want ICS..
Actually I forgot how GB feels because I'm using MiniCM9 with naa ics4 for the past 1 and a half months. With minimum apps installed. (Only BMX boy, DoodleJump)
Don't use facebook or maps. They are great ram eaters !
yeah!
if you don't want some laggy just go back on GB!
try and choose some GB ROM in XDA
respect our DEV dude!
remember if our phone (X8) has a low memory..
so ICS ROM like MiniCM9 has a great job to make an ICS ROM for our poor phone!
try and keep trying dude!

Should i buy Cola or Pepsi ?

I mean,personally i adore ics,but videos are slow,youtube doesnt work,cant watch videos over skyfire.
Gb has less bugs, but i think will go for ics.
It depends on whether you are willing to sacrifice performance of GB over beautiful look of ICS. I reverted because I couldn't bear the decrease in responsiveness and speed and I use over 60 apps and that's unthinkable on ICS for X8. As a matter of fact, ICS is really a brilliant display of what great developers can achieve and not a daily-use system for our weak X8. The new Xperia Tipo is quite similar to X8 in price and has better HW and stock ICS

Hey guys, i know many of those threads came here in the past time but i have a question.
I want to give my i9000 to my mother. I need a stable rom which doesnt need to update daily or weekly. I know from many roms that they run VERY fluid in the first few days but barely a week later they begin to lag, stuck, etc.
My mother wants to make calls, maybe whatsapp, facebook, etc.
In addition to that my little brother will pick the phone up and want to play some games likes jetpack joyride or something.
The Rom mustnt be 4.2.2 because i know that many 4.2.2 roms are getting laggy after some time of usage. even slim bean which i used a lot and love it.
anyone any suggestions?
thank you!
why don't u use the stock 2.3.6 rom ? it's ok..plenty of features, god battery life and enough new apps that can run on it. At least you know it's stable and bug-free. After using slimbeam for a few months i went back to stock...it's better for me because i want a stable rom, fast, vith little customization. Slim it's ok but i had some bug's and if u are on a trip or u need to use the gps to go somewhere u don't whant to get force close or other things.

Agreed, stock, or a debloated/optimised stock is the best option. I tend to go back to stock because its rock stable, without losing on too many things.
Especially considering GPS and battery life, stock does incredibly well.

@bialabs. CM10.1 is nice but i think the batterylife is very poor on every cm rom since the gingerbread roms. i dont know why but on the i9000 it uses a lot of battery for some reason.
maybe we can leave this thread open for some other user experiences for people who want to live without bunch of extras and customizations
Great question OP. Just giving my mother an old SGS from a friend which runs CM nightlies. Wanted to find a simple, stable rom for her, as she doesnt have a smartphone. Came on xda to find one. Thanks for the replies.
Try Sexynogenmod 2.5 It's rock stable(don't bother with any changes to governor or OC) battery life ,in my case, is similar to stock, gps working fine and very smooth. It's odd that it's based on cyanogenmod 10, maan it's so much different(better). I personally recommend it, and i flash ROMs since 2010

My experience
I am using Supernexus 2 M1. It is almost Stock for Samsung Galaxy S I9000. It working really good. Stable, good speed, etc...
Slimbean 6 i use and no big problem.
All great suggestions. But i finally decided on a gingerbread, because i believe it is more intuitive for a beginner. Stock was a bit laggy, so now i use Saurom ROM 2.3.6 (JWB) with Menu addon pack + Semphore 2.7.4 kernel. Everything is great and have no issues so far.
I use JB 4.2.2 - CM10.1 + Sempahore, all working great..
