[Q] cm10 gps problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i am using 20121014 nigthly cm10 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778526
It seems for me that gps works kinda bad since my last installed cm 9 or cm 10, i dont remember..
Any advices how to fix it ? It fixes realy slowly and not accuracy..

Try hardware fix(search forum for this) and try fasterfix from market, should work..

It seems that I'm not the only one. I'm quite sure that something's definitely off in CM10 (others reported the same for SGS3, I don't know whether it's relevant or not...). Okay it's great that there's a hardware fix which should make the GPS perform better but still, it's not the primary problem. With CM9 I had a GPS fix in max. 20 seconds, now I can't get a stable one in 20 minutes. (Yeah, I've also tried FasterFix by the way.)

My gps works just fine on CM10, however, for some reason I sometimes have to have internet access when activating my gps for it to lock on satellites, I suppose it's because it updates gps info from the ntp server or something...
The difference is a weak connection to one satellite, and near-instant connection to 10-15 of them.
(tested with LBSTestMode)
I've also changed the server in gps.conf to NTP_SERVER=no.pool.ntp.org as that's my country specific server (norway).

Theres a really good app to configure your gps to right country. Hope it helps.

Thanks, already tried to use it for the country I'm in at the moment. (Yes, my GPS just broke down abroad, as my luck have it... )

[Q] MIUI 2.3.23 (GB) - GPS works only in google maps

Hi,
I am experiencing strongly problem with GPS right now. On my N1 I have MIUI.us 2.3.23 (GB) and for some time I can't use GPS applications (except Google Maps which works perfectly!). I was trying Runkeeper, Endomondo, GPSFix - always the same problem - GPS can't find actual fix. I tried wipe to factory data reset, reflash - still nothing. But, Google Maps as I said earlier works great! It takes about 5-10 seconds to find actual position. I have no idea what could be wrong...
any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
dzordzyk
i had a problem with GPS to it was giving me inaccurate data. The problem for me was that MIUI`s GPS settings was for north america i changed the settings to europe
Steps:
1) go to settings
2) my location
3) GPS configuration
NTP Server Address: 3.europe.pool.ntp.org
SUPL Server Address: supl.google.com
SUPL Server Port: 7276
When applying those settings my GPS readings became accurate
I have the same problem.
Nexus one,
newer version of miui ( 2.3.30) it has the gps setup you just posted by default.
No gps fix on copilot, not sure if google maps catches it (it does by the internet connection on maps, but the gps is not catching a fix)
any other solutions ? i did full wipe aswell and no luck
Oh, and im in uk, but just drove through whole eu union and it wasnt working in poland, germany, belgium and france)
I used 2.3.30 from miuiandroid.com and GPS worked fine for me. Perhaps give that one a go.

I do have 2.3.30 from their website as i posted :| the damn thing just doesnt work, i even did radio re-install as i had the newest one and still same **** :/ i remember i was playing at some point back with the roms and it just stopped working, but i didint care at the moment as gmaps was enough for me. Now that i have a car its v. annoying.
In the co-pilot and gps test it doesnt show any sattelites at all. I surely hope its a software issue, but how do i go about fixing it ? what else can i do apart from reflashing roms, and radios ?
Oh so far i tried it on miui and cyanogen 7.. no luck..
Try the app GPS Status

[Q] No GPS Fix

Hi All,
I got problems getting gps fixes in Germany (Aachen)
In fact, i wont get any gps fix at all, i tried the app "gps status" but nothing happens.
i tried changing the pool servers in gps.conf to de.pool and europe.pool servers,
set near countries (be, nl, lu, fr) as secondary servers and nearly every gps fix thread i found in the last 2 weeks but still nothing works
second mysterius thing is that in my hometown (Duisburg, germany too) there is no problem with my gps connection and i got a fix in like 30seconds.
i dont know if that problem occurs because Aachen is really near to 2 countrie's frontiers but i really ran out of ideas what to try :/
no matter how hard i try to find something myself or edit the gps.conf my gps status keeps like this all the time (attachment)
please help me :/ (and excuse my bad english *blush*)
1. Try "GPS test" from the market. This app will show you the satelites and their position. If after about 20 min. outdoor nothing is showed you have a hardware or rom-problem.
2. If a sat. is shown mybe you have wrong configuered firewall. I don´t remember the process which get the gps-position by the servers.
3. I had never problems with any server, all works fine for me, but with the app "fasterfix" you can change them and give an european a try.
Hope can help you.
1. When im in a good position GPS test and GPS status occasionally see a satellite or two, but they disappear as fast as they appear :/
2. i dont use a firewall at all, i think.. is there a android standard firewall or something?^^
3. i tried fasterfix and some gps.conf tricks from xda, too
also i tried adding or changing different pool.ntp.org servers in my gps.conf
but nothing helps :/
the real funny thing is, that saturday and sunday i was in Duisburg and used GPS for Running and Cycling (Endomondo 30km~) and had nothing near a problem, no edge or something that could indicate gps problems, satfix in under 1 minute and stuff.
Now, back in Aachen, most gps using apps tell me there is even no gps available :/
the hardware and rom didnt changed at all, i really dont know why this mean little thing wont work
thanks for your reply btw!
You should get a gps-fix with gps-test outdoor within 20-30min without an internet-access. Be patient, due a totally new allocation via gps without server-support can take a lot of time (sat-search, time-fixing …). Sats appear and disapper, this is normal during a totally new allocation. After this you can discard a hardware/ROM – problem.
If this work, you can search for the server-access issue to get a faster gps-fix.
P.S.: Android normally haven’t a firewall in stockROM and your attachment in your first post can’t be shown.
The attachment was just a screenshot of GPS status showing no satellites, but trying.^^
so i will try to go out and let that little mean phone search the sky for satellites now^^
humpf... no effect at all...
Then I recommend to go back to stock-ROM (without root of course) an contact the LG support and send it back (don’t forget nandroid backup!). Maybe try it a last time with stock-ROM 30 min outdoor before (to get sure).
It seem to be a hardware defect. The phone don’t get enough signal strength (maybe antenna contact).
Good luck!
May be you can try ny method because i'm using it and it works onder for me..

gps fix
try to look up your countries ntp.pool.org adress.
add it to gps file.
google that.
if you have no clue. download -gps fix- or similar) from market. it has a blue/pruple icon.
this app is not from me, bu it makes it easy to replace the standard ntp adress witha local one.
The standard one = usa based. for me, on my phones, this ment i had 300 to 400 ms ping to get the gps time correction signal (~ntp).
this might improve your gps "location fix" speed. that might thus solve your problem, ebcause after that gps doesnt have to keep trying to find or keep correcting the signal.
in short. if your problem is caused by bad or no fixing the timings of gps (which it always needs to do). then gps will keep trying untill it does get a good fix.
also. disable gps if not used.
hope this helps
btw: yuo talk about the gps signal that drops right?

Poor antenna performance CM10

Hey guys,
I noticed when I went from CM9 to CM10, my antenna performance is really suffering. Its using XXJVT
For example, on the home network, I could download at 2MB/s, now I'm lucky to get 150KB/s.
Also, my GPS signal is very bad, using google maps, it will drop out all the time.
Not sure whats the go, I opened up the phone, antenna cable is plugged in so must be the modem firmware?
Should I somehow flash the modem back to whatever was in CM9?
I'm from Australia, cheers
OK, we'll I've tried different modems, still seem to have the same issue (with download speed anyway).
Basically I check my wifi, it will say its connected at 50Mbps etc, but when I go to speedtest.net, I get 800Kbps all the time.
Is this a CM10 issue?
I remember I could DL on wifi at 2MB/s, now its around 100KB/s... sigh
Try DXJV9 modem and SuperNexus Rom. Works fine for me.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
I just installed CM10.1 nightly (4.2.2) (did a wipe data + cache), also the just installed I9000XWJW1 modem.
I've been reading people from Melbourne using XWJW1 over XXJW4... however sometimes it sounds like they've got XXJW1, when its XWJW1, unless I'm wrong.
Anyways, my WAN speed seems fine again, I don't know if it was the modem or the rom doing it, as my modem/cable was out for 2 hours. No idea but I'm happy its better.
Speedtest via WAN I get 21000Kbps, for the network I have pretty bad coverage but I can get up to 1000Kbps, but usually around 300Kbps.
I'll test the GPS over a week or so and see what happens.
Hrm, still have issues with my GPS
Doesn't seem to find a signal, and if it does, it disconnects and looses it very quickly.
Maybe its hardware?
Whats that program I've seen screenshots of that show how many GPS satellites your connected to and its strength?
Cheers
Fixed my GPS issues, thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697217
Works now in the car. It won't pick up GPS indoors too well, using the app "GPS Test" a lot of the bars are grey, but outdoors is better
Can get 8-10 satellites
Just remove the rubber conductive pad, add solder blob. Don't bother with transferring the un-used spring/tab, its too large, hard and a waste of time, I tried
There's also this thread but I didn't read/do anything here.

[Q] CM11 GPS issue with Glonass

My phone is on unofficial CM11 developed by @laufersteppenwolf.
The GPS is working but just couldn't lock any Glonass satellite. I have tried almost all gps.conf in XDA that claim to fix GPS with no lock.
In particular, I tried the patch from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455885.
Still, my phone doesn't capture any Glonass satellite.
The hardware side should be fine as it can lock normal U.S. GPS satellites.
But without the help of Glonass, the locking takes much longer time.
Anyone shares the same symptom? Could it a bug in the existing CM11 build?
Tested topNTP?
This app solved my problem with gps in customROMs.
Maybe can help in your case. :fingers-crossed:
Best Regards.
Thanks but I've tried topNTP already.
It seems that the phone has never attempted to download any XTRA file no matter what gps.conf is in place.
It seems your phone is working as it is supposed to be. May I know which ROM you're on?
