follow the thread to install clockworkmod.
If u dont have Xrecovery i've attached one for u.
Extract the rar and u'll find 3 files.
Using Root Explorer place the 3 files in /system/bin/...dont forget to change the permissions to r/w
boot into xrecovery by pressing the back key while on the sony Ericsson logo and flash cwm recovery.
But I already have xrecovery.. and my phone version 2.2 now, but don't have clock workmod..

I search but still don't understand need more detail... please..

x8toolbox
then just follow the thread and download the req. cwm recovery and install it using xrecovery!
If you are having xRecovery, flash "Amend" package
So that means place the attachment in the sdcard..
switch off ur phone and boot into xrecovery...then select "install zip from sdcard"
select CWM-recovery-3.2.0.0-r3-e15-Amend.zip and flash it!
thats it.
And than what should I continue to do?

It is not error my phone?? (sorry for my question) before I have 2.3+ version on my phone and don't have cwd like this... I read the threat from Google, they give me to flash cwd****.zip, ( I forget what cwd ***.zip file that I flash) I download it and flash, it brick my phone.. so scare... if I do it is can be? Cause now I am stand for mini cm 6 version 2.2.

the method i follow usually is I flash the GingerDX v14 using xRecovery.
This way after flashing the rom i have both xrecovery and cwm.
Maybe u can do the same to flash cwm and then flash watever rom u wish to install using cwm.
This is the easiest method and brick proof.
I've done this several times before.
So it mean if I flash cwd already, I must flash other room, do like this I can't brick my phone?
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
there is no problem if u flash other rom from minicm 2.2..u wont brick ur device....and there is no need to flash any other rom after flashing cwm its upto u. the recovery will work just fine!
So just flash cwd.zip normal ?? Ok... i try now if successful I will come here to say " IT WORK " . but if not see u tomorrow...

Ok,download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=729395&d=1316853490 ,then download root explorer, install it and extract the downloaded zip, then go to extracted and open the folder of extracted zip.open the system, then bin folder and copy all three of them to system/bin and replace with existing files.BUT FIRST MOUNT R/W-LITTLE BUTTON TOP RIGHT.then long press on chargemon and select permissions.select:read,write,execute,read,execute,read,execute.save.DO that to other 2 you pasted witlh chargemon.after that, return to sd card, speed software, extracted, cwm folder and go to system, xbin and copy the sh to system/xbin and replace.you will have to copy sh again because system rejects it the first time:no free memory left.after you copyed sh again, change its permissions to read, write, execute, read, execute, read, execute.then reboot and rapidly press the back button when white Sony ericsson logo appears.

NANDROID ? Don't use stock recovery. Don't make nandroid backup for stock rom.
so how should i flash cwm recovery .
and which recovery is best suited for nandroid backups and comptability with all apps.
does it necessarily require me to install custom roms.

I am in same situation with a GT-S5570, it has stock rom and is rooted. I downloaded Clockwork Manager to it's SD card.
Then from stock Recovery manager I tried to install CWM from sd card. The screen got distorted and graphic looked awful.
Had to reboot and nothing got installed.
Tried Odin but it won't recognize my phone while in Downloading mode.
I want to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 Android 4.2........any ideas? I guess I need somekind of backup first, if I mess up and need to reinstall stock? Hard to do with stock recovery mode though.

To make it detect in odin you need drivers... install those by installing kies.... flash CWM from stock recovery only and not by using rom manager....

At least, you must backup your apps. In case you unable to backup your stock rom.

Apps can always be reinstalled in no time I think, problem is I can't install CWM from stock recovery, when selecting update from sd/zip or whatever it says, I pick the CWM file on my SD-card.
Then the graphic gets messed up and I can no longer see the menu clear.

before you flash cwm make sure its in the root directory of your sdcard... . So to say sd root is to say the topmost folder on the sdcard, which is just on the sd and not in a folder.
without getting odin recognize your Mobile you should not flash anything as if you get in any trouble it would be easy for you to flash the stock rom
and best and safest method to flash cwmr is to flash it through odin
you cannot backup stock rom with cwm recovery only custom one's can be backed up
to backup apps and data you should use titanium backup
Galaxy Mini running Android version 2.3.5 (Gingerbread)
How do I install this CM10.1 ROM on my phone?
I've rooted + flashed ROMs before on my i9100 but it appears the Galaxy Mini process is much different. Help is greatly appreciated!
Does the Mini have to be rooted prior to installing CWM or custom ROMs?
As far as I know I simply plug my phone into computer, download a CWM file and flash it to phone with Odin. Then I drag the CM10.1 zip file onto the phone and using the CWM recovery menu, flash the ROM?
Thank you in advance

I don't understand what you are meaning here. I asked in my original post the instructions for flashing CM10 onto my Galaxy Mini and whether or not the steps I outlined above are correct or if I am missing something.
Ya thats right, but u before must do hard reset, cache and dalvik wipe but i think u already knew that

First root it , then flash cwm tar file in odin as one package , and thej you can put custom rom on sd and go to cwm recovery wipe cache/data and cache partitation. Then just install the rom zip and there you go.
If you dislike the rom just flash another and if your tired off custom roms flash back stock rom

Dude ! It's already solved ! Read the OP !
Hi guys!
I will try to mod a Galaxy Ace (stock 2.3.6), but the home button is dead.
So, I suppose the most part of my job will be made under adb shell. I'm thinking to start rooting it using SuperOneClick. But I need a recovery version that don't use the home button. I was thinking to flash the PX Recovery, which have touch support. But all the versions I looked for are flashable via recovery (I found a Galaxy Mini recovery flashable via Odin instead).
I was noticed by this forum search engine a same issue with a Galaxy S phone user, solved using CF-Root (its CWM shifts home for power button, a nice workaround), but I don't want to make a mistake and brick this Ace.
I could flash PX Recovery, extracting the img file from the CWM package, pushing it to the phone and flashing it manually, but it could be risky also. Just an idea, since the recovery interface do the same thing, but with a GUI.
I'd like some directions before perform any flash on this phone. I found a lot of resources here for my old phones (Motorola MB501, Samsung Galaxy 5 and Ace), but this Ace will be a challenge, for sure!
Thanks in advance!

Unrooted 2.3.6 stock ROM. As I said above, first thing is root it, using the instructions from this community. Phone is "untouched" yet.
You'll be wanting the home button anyway. So why not take it to a service center & get it fixed ? There are a few work arounds but why do all that ?

Out warranty, and the service center will, for sure, replace the entire board, so they can charge more money than the service I need. In Brazil, it's common raise the service prices more than needed. Would be easier find for another Ace than fix it =)
Try to root your your phone using superoneclick. Then install cwm manager & select install update from sd card. And flash px recovery. Choose a stock based rom with ext4 file system & flash without wipes. I think you won't be able to wipe anything off stock rom as it isn't in ext4 format. Now after flashing the rom, reboot. Now reboot into recovery, do full wipes & flash the rom again to get it clean ! Done !

Venomous, just don't forget my dead home button. I can't make selections on the recovery interface. If you read above, I'm thinking to use adb commands to flash it (adb shell flash-recovery cwm.img, for example). So, if I extract the recovery img file, push it into the phone sd card, and flash using adb/fastboot, will it work?
As well I can switch to download mode through adb (reboot-download).

But px recovery doesn't require home button & cwm manager is just an app, not recovery. I haven't tried superoneclick & I donno if it uses home button during the process. But if not, my method should work.

Is CWM Manager a frontend of CWM Recovery, or is it an Independent app? Once this ace is still stock (stock recovery, I can't flash unsigned packages), I'm not sure it will work. Did you got it now?
CWM manager is an app. You can access it from app drawer, grant su permissions & select install update from sd card. Choose px recovery zip & it automically reboots into recovery & flashes it for you. And then you can use px recovery to flash roms. I'm sorry I cannot help any further unless you try or I'm sorry if I ain't able to understand what you want to convey.

As it says installation is bad then the zip file may not be fully downloaded OR it may be corrupted. The other roms r working right?

Maclaw's site no more supports resume on downloads & there's a high probability that the file you downloaded is corrupted. Try downloading the file again.

Your sdcard might be corrupted too, so test the advice of fellow and if it doesn't work format your sdcard in FAT32 format using your pc or your phone and then try to flash the rom again
