Hi,
I want to view movies from my Kindle on my Panasonic plasma TV. What cable do I need exactly to connect the Kindle to the TV?

An HDMI to micro HDMI cable or adapter. I can't post external links yet, but just googling "HDMI to micro HDMI" will get you the necessary results.

i'm not sure if the quality will match your expectations. tried earlier this week to watch the nfl gamepass via KFHD, but quality wasn't fun at all. let us know how it works with movies.

Just curious, when you connect it to your TV do you need to leave the tablet screen turned on like on MHL mirroring?
And overlaid items like subtitles on Netflix or MXPlayer are showed on TV?
Thanks!

Bump.
I would like to know about this as well. Particularly if anyone has tried using it with cyanogenmod installed.
(Sorry if I'm not supposed to be posting in a dead thread. I Didn't want to make a new one when this one was already here. If it would be better to start a new thread I will gladly do so.)
Works on stock but not currently in cyanogenmod. As soon as you plug the device in on CM10 it reboots to stock.
Has this been tried with the native 10.1 install to the EMMC? I've been on the fence, as $40 is a big chunk of cash compared to the device cost...
Thanks for the reply. It's a shame it doesn't work as it seems this would be very nice for presentations and such.
Update
Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to direct you to this post.
It seems we now have at least one confirmation of HDMI adapter working on the cm 10.1 emmc install. Sound seems to be a problem, but it should be a very simple matter of using a separate pair of speakers plugged into the headphone jack until that's worked out.
Any one know of a retailer in the UK who stocks the HDMI Dongle?

No UK retailer currently stocks it - I ordered mine from Barnes & Noble's website in the UK, it cost around £30 including shipping from the states, and arrived in about 2 weeks.
Do videos play well over hdmi? I assume that playback will be the same as on the screen or are there any jitters etc through hdmi?

picked up a nook HD+ the other day with father's day sale, also picked up the hdmi at half price. We watched a downloaded 1gig *.mkv game of thrones episode with MXplayer on our 55inch plasma and it worked great. first time starting the show the audio was slightly off but just paused and hit play again and it was sync'd. Mind you we are still running stock at this point. I'm very very tempted to rom it soon. hope it still works...

curious to see if anyone has XBMC running on their HD+ with the HDMI adapter. I am about to buy one but if XBMC is a no go then there is no need for the HDMI for me at least

At first they lady said none of the accessories were half price, but there was a sign sitting right on the counter next to the nook display saying they were... They did say that normally the accessories are not on sale during the nook sale, but to just wait another week and they should have them for sale.

To answer my own question HDMI out with xbmc works well. Screen is not projected full screen unless playing a video like in YouTube or using MX player

Seeing that there was no recent mention affirming that the adapter works under cm10.1, I'm jumping in here to say that it works beautifully (though captions is not being reflected on the HDTV ). I installed the CM10.1 to the emmc of my Nook HD.
If you go into developer option (tap repeatly on the build info in about section) you can enable the show touch option. It will show a small opaque circle wherever you tap. I think this would be useful for presenting too since you can put your finger on the screen where you want the audience to see.

I completely forgot to see if the hdmi would work with cm10.1 this weekend, thanks for letting us know.
also cool tip for the show touch option.
Probably not any new news here - more an FYI.
I have a 32GB HD+ running stock 2.1.0 with leapinlar's Extras rev-3. I have successfully used the HDMI adapter with MX Player, XBMC, Amazon video (via Firefox and Flash Player), VUDU, and I also found that the HDMI adapter is another way to play streaming audio to my HT receiver -- definitely better than bluetooth. All these are with stereo/Dolby Surround over HDMI.
I used Handbrake to transcode about 30 mkv files and all of those are quite reasonable in size. So portable video is a go! I am also able to play the original 720p mkv files with MX Player and there are no problems there. I don't have any 1080p sources since I'm still waiting for my old CRT television to die. But, hey, holding out might be good fortune or a blessing-in-disguise with the advances now in video tech.
My only wish is that I could get Dolby Digital playback over HDMI. Seems to be a constraint of this hardware OR at least with the hardware I'm using. If Dolby Digital playback is different for anyone else I'd like to know.
hi, does anybody know if it is possible to connect a usb device and hdmi output simultaniously? the hdmi connector has a 10-pin connector, but i don't know if it can be used as a usb or it is for charging only (using cm10.1)

Have you used the Nook w/ the HDMI connector much more? How do you feel about the Nook HD+ as a HTPC? It has bluetooth, so connecting a bluetooth mouse to it as a remote works, right?
Just wondering about other file formats (full 1080 mkv's and xvids), and the HD quality when using Netflix or Google video or Amazon video.

I do not believe there is a way to stream a game to your laptop. Videos yes but not a game.

I stream anything from my phone to my HDTV with the MediaLink device which you can buy at Sprint store for about $80.00. So if your computer has a hdmi slot than you can and you purchase MediaLink. If your computer does not have a hdmi slot but some other type of video input you could maybe get a converter to convert hdmi to your video input type. I play all kinds of games like real racing, ski challange, xplane, etc. on my phone and stream to my tv.

Alright, guess I've got my foot in my mouth. Things have changed in the last couple of years, hdmi capture cards exist. They'd be laggy as all hell, but you could hook up your phone to a laptop. My mistake.

Does anyone know or have they experimented with slimport/mhl to HDMI adapters for this thing? I have rooted this thing and installed my own launcher and have a projector I'm interested in hooking it up to.
If one of the adapters on Amazon works then my hope is to set this on top of the projector in an always on manner, and use VNC or some other android-to-android mirroring software to play content on it.
You may be thinking, why not just use Chromecast? Well this would be specifically for apps that don't have chromecast such as Xfinity TV Go. So just wondering if anyone knows about past fire tablets and these adapters or if they have already tried some and found success.
I haven't seen any mention that the fire 5th gen supports slimport/mhl. Have I missed something?

I'll believe it when I see it tho. I can't find any reports of successful hdmi.
The mediatek page for MT8127 does mention hdmi. We don't know if there is any difference from the MediaTek MT8127 D that amazon lists. Or if the chip supports only a standard hdmi port not slimport/mhl usb.

There are tablets that use a MediaTek MT8127 and have a slimport, such as the Iconia Tab 10. However, I couldn't find any tablets that use the D version of the MT8127.

Oh, that gives us hope! Thanks!
Tho if it had slimport capability, why wouldn't amazon enable it in the stock FireOS. It would be a selling point & help get people to buy tv shows or movies from amazon. Perhaps the best resolution it could push out wasn't so hot & amazon left it out to avoid a disappointing experience? Yep, I'm trying to hold onto hope for slimport here.
Wish we knew WTH they did to the D version MT8127.
I don't see any HDMI adapters for the 5th generation Fire on Amazon. The reviews for the 4th generation adapter claim that it does NOT work for the 5th gen (it's a shame, this one lets you charge while using the adapter):

Edit: the following was a brain fart, thanks blueberry.sky for pointing it out

Wow! Nice job finding that report! And he specifies " $50 7in fire 5th gen".
Tho I'm not understanding what he could mean by this "I've tried lots of work arounds to supplement it memory and this one works great."
Wait . . . . .
That is a USB OTG adapter, not a slimport adapter. So excited for hdmi, I nearly brought one! :silly:
I have the model number PS56GR, Amazon HDMI Adapter for Fire Tablets (4th Generation)
It does not work at all the the 5th Generation Fire 7" . All it does is pass through the charge. BTW it works very well on my Nexus 7 2013
Has anyone had any luck using newer roms?
Anyone had any success with this?
MHL with cm-12.1-20160203 is still a no go.

Not sure I would accept that premise just yet. I used Chromecast's "Cast Screen / Audio" feature to stream an episode from my computer via TVersity, wirelessly to the Fire, wirelessly back to the Chromecast, and it worked better than expected. Casting the entire screen would be one alternative that actually works.
Is there an update to this.i just got the 5th gen just to stream movies in the car but need to know if mhl has been figured out for this
Hi,
I have buy a chromecast ultra at the airport yesterday. I have try to connect it to my TV without success.
At the first boot, I have a black screen on my TV and my android phone with google home apps saying that their is an update for my Chromecast ultra.
Now, if I make a factory reset or press the reset button I get this :
- On the TV, I can see a blue screen with Chromecast Ultra and a yellow circle. After a few seconds, the chromecast seems reboot, the screen become black and the LED on the chromecast is blinking in white.
- I can configure the chromecast using google home apps or the chrome extension. After the configuration, the screen on the TV is always black and the LED on the chromecast ultra is white and fix.
You can see all of this on the video below :
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9YcqL1nFiDaXzBBOWRGR3A2clk
I have only one HDMI port on the TV and I don't know the manufacturer. Devices like SOny PS3 work on my TV using HDMI. I have disconnect and reconnect all but it doesn't change anything.
Google say that some old TV are not compatible with their device. Can you help me to solve the problem ?
Thanks for your help.
Is your TV a 4K TV, the ultra is for 4K TVs?

Yes it may be meant for 4K TVs but it should still display on lower resolutions as well.
My suggestion is to bring the unit back to where you bought it and let them test it on one of their monitors and see if they get screen.
It is very possible you just got a lemon unit.
I can't bring back the unit. I have buy it in an airport during holiday.
I test it on the new TV of a friend, I get a picture. I hope that the device can work on old TV or on TV that is not smart.
Is there a solution to make the ChromeCast Ultra compatible with my old TV ? Is there a configuration file that I can edit or an adaptator that I can put between the ChromeCast and my TV ?
Thanks,

The age of the TV doesn't matter...If it has an HDMI input then it should display in whatever resolution the TV supports.
Since it works on other TVs the only thing left is that the Input to the TV is bad.
Is there another input you can try it on?
Bad news, your TV is too old since it works on your friends TV.

So this is a French TV? (which could explain your problem.)
What Airport did you buy this Chromecast?
I'm going to bet that you have a SECAM TV but the CCast may only supports NTSC or PAL.
If you bought this in the US it is possible it won't support a SECAM TV but the UK version might since PAL and SECAM are very similar.
It's a combination of things working against you here...Yes the TV is a bit old and not very forgiving in what signals it will accept. coupled with the fact that France, and the Former Soviet countries were the only ones who used the SECAM standard where most of Europe uses PAL and the rest of the world uses NTSC.
The cheapest solution is probably to buy a new TV as there is no guarantee that any CCast will work with that one.
You could probably buy a PAL adapter and convert the signal but that is likely to cost as much as a new TV will.
Thanks for your answer.
I don't know if my TV is Secam or Pal. I only use it with my Sony PS3.
I have buy the ChromeCast in Australia.

The Aussie CCast is definitely PAL compatible.
I'm guessing your TV was one of the tweener models many people got stuck with in the time where SD was being phased out and Digital standards were not yet set.
Hello,
I have the same issue here and it seems that the chromecast is outputting at 1080p when ur TVs are only going up to 480p
Not nice to mention this risk on google side

I know theta no video out. But there's a lot of mhl cables that you can buy. That's where I was looking at thanks.
sorry I should have explained better. My bad. When I said no I meant there is zero way to get any kind of video out from the phone, I have looked everywhere. No MHL, SlimPort, or HDMI. Like most companies today, OnePlus has not included it in the hardware. For the most part, everyone is pushing for wireless video like the Chromecast.
