Hello, I have noticed that my device has taken a long time to respond by pressing the unlock button. I've tried to give a full wipe, install other roms and the problem continues ... Anyone have an idea what I can do to solve it? thanks!!
how long?
if its like a second, its normal
if more, you might want to see the minimum frequency, governor etc
what rom are you on?

I tried a lot of rom... with all of them I had this problem... I`m using now the MercurySandwich ROM, at times it unlocks in a second, but sometimes it takes too long... about 30 seconds or more... even I need to press the unlock button more than 1 time...
try changing the governor to smartass and disable DVFS
try zeus
Normaly it's unlocked in much less than a second, but I already had it a few times that it takes some seconds. ROM doesn't really seem to make a difference, even if I had the feeling that it happend more on CM7 than other OS. Seems to be not directly a HW thing, but normaly it's: press the button and it's unlocked directly.
As i said, try changing your governor etc. There is a thread in the question and answers section itself, search for it. Its pretty recent

Hello,
Is there a possibility to disable the delay that I have from the moment I press the unlock button to the moment the screen turns on?
At the moment I have 2.5 seconds delay from the moment I push the button until the screen turns on.
Am I the only encoutering this delay? didn't see a similar post anywhere on the web

My phone has the same behaviour and the "problem" (if you want to call it a problem) is also described in some german forums - so no, it seems that this is absolutely ordinary.
I had the chance to compare it with a I9000 and the I9000 will outperformance the I9001 at this point, but nonetheless for me it is not really disturbing or so.
any updates on this one? Can someone please help? It's driving me crazy
Hy
I've read about the same problem on a hungarian forum, but I don't have it, mine turns on in less then a secound.
I think if this is such a common problem, Samsung will fix it. Maybe write them a mail.
When the screen has been turned off for a long time, the first unlock takes a lot longer than the following unlocks. For me, I think the 'cold' unlock is 2.5 seconds while a 'warm' unlock is just 1 second.
But yeah, this clearly is a standard problem. Let's hope Samsung brings out a firmware update soon to fix issues like these.
Mine has same "problem". It seems that the phone is in somekind of sleep.
i believe that problem is fixed in 2.3.4. Try flashing that and i hope you won't have that problem...i mean this is how it works:
1. I9000 uses SGX540 which uses less ram for its vram so you have around 250mb+ free ram
2. I9001 uses Adreno 205 which uses a lot of ram for its vram so that you have about 120mb left only
3. Try using no frills CPU app using root and set the minimum frequency to 245 mhz or maybe higher...and you won't get any delays..
Unfortunately it is not fixed with 2.3.4 as I still have the issue.
I will try your suggestion with the CPU frequency

The standard value for the minimum frequency is 245mhz! But it would be stupid to set it higher, because this will of course drain more battery.
I set my minimum frequency to 122mhz (scaling: on demand) and I noticed no differences regarding the delays (like I said before, I do not have a problem with a delay of 2,5sec) - but I have a better battery lifetime without charging.
I will give both ways a try, but to be honest the 2 + sec delay is anoing for me.
Edit:
Even with 1.4Ghz as frequency there is a delay, not that long but still about 1,5 sec.

yup it will...then you should wait for a better custom rom with all those JIT and ram compress tweaks enabled and then you can enjoy the speed.
To be honest if you guys want your problems to be fixed, do support the devs as much as possible in this thread

Yeah but in my opinion setting up the minimum frequency is not an option, because it is a more battery draining setting.

mate, you can never have performance with battery conversations...it's inversely proportional.
1. Set maximum value to 1 ghz with minimum of above 245
2. Do a hard reset from going into settings -> privacy -> factory reset because i just did it recently and my phone's running much faster.
Just had a chat with a guy from samsung support and he said that there is nothing they can do.
There must be a tweak or something to decrease this delay

I did, one day it shut down on me twice. It turned out like you turn it off, but then I couldn't turn it back on, just after battery reset. Never happaned again since then.
You mean factory data reset by hard reset?

Interesting....what version of android do you have (also kernel)
Mine reacts slower if I leave it longer. (samsung explanation "It is because the phone is entering in some kind of sleep state"). When I said that Galaxy s2 reacts instantly the answer was that Galaxy S2 has a better microprocesor and has a different platform.. hmmm
If you find this useful, press the Thank you button

well, i've done that a couple of time already without knowing it being a fix for random shutdowns...but really it's a bit annoying, it just turns off by itself..
Obviously I have an N7000 and I am noticing a peculiar problem for the past 2 days.
When I use the Power / Home button to wake the phone up, it takes close to 10 seconds to wake up.
When the phone is sleeping and I receive a call, it takes 10 seconds to wake up again.
When the phone is awake and someone calls, and I slide to Answer, the slider gets stuck and the phone is answered after 10 seconds.
I tried various ROMs, did a factory reset as well.
Interesting bit - All these problems vanish when am charging the phone. These problems occur only when am on battery. Could this be a battery issue ? Will replacing the battery help ?
Thanks,
Amit
So have you tried different kernels? Imho, I would flash a rom that is stable. I assume you are 4.0.4. After you fully wipe and install the rom of choice, check if you still have the lag. There are so many reasons that could cause it. Cable you're using, kernel, rom, etc. Do you use setcpu? You can actually set it to change when and how the cpu acts while screen off, on etc etc. In the past if I had a lag like that it was a problem with thte rom itself or an app that was causing the lag. If you need more help just PM me. Please post your results here so we can all follow the symptoms until we find a cure.
Thanks DBY,
I tried AbyssNoteKernel 4.2 and CF-Root. Both are showing the same issues. I am going to try another battery today. If the problem persists, I will let you know.
Thanks,
Amit
Which various ROMs ?
Please post the ROM name, version and the kernel which you are using.
Check your power save settings.
Disable all power saving and see if this resolves your problem.

I recently started getting this issue where when I receive a call or even make a call, my phones screen turns black from the status bar down and all buttons and actions are frozen along with the screen, I can hear the person on the other side of the phone ( I don't know if they can hear me though) and after a bit of spamming the home button it unfreezes and I can only hang up through the dropdown menu.
I don't know if its a ROM problem or a phone one, I was on CM10 and I had the problem then I changed to HellyBean and I still have it.
Has anyone had or heard of this? PLEASE HELP!
Bump c'mon someone has to know a fix!
If you have OC on, turn it off to see if the problem goes away or not.
Sometimes going back to stock and then flashing the new rom helps solve such problems.

Can you explain what OC is?
OC means overclocking your cpu. You may also want to reset overclocking/underclocking and also reset the voltages if they are changed. Go into settings and check it out. Go into the recovery menu and if the kernel you're using has any special settings there regarding the above, try resetting there as well.
If you flash a stock rom, this will be done automatically for you. That would be a better test anyway in my view.

I don't think that could be a problem because this was happening on CM10 and it was still happening on HellyBean, so the CPU is at normal speed? Right?
Hello everybody.
I just got myself an P880 a few days ago. All in all, I am rather content, but there is something that bothers me sorely: the lock screen lag. There is a delay of about 3 seconds between pressing the power button and the screen coming to life. I've had this on stock ICS, stock JB and now on CM 10.1.2. I tried different lock screen and also no lock screens - all to no avail. I even checked another P880 (it was running stock ICS) and it was the same story there. Yet I can't really find anyone else reporting this problem, so maybe I'm doing something wrong? I don't know!
I took a video of my old SGS and the P880 next to each other: youtu.be/RyrgdiLGhoU
All hints and suggestions are appreciated!

There is no real answer to this question, my 4x is fine, perhaps half a second delay from pressing the lock button to seeing my lockscreen.
However there are many contributing factors to what could cause this, for example the phone may be locking to a certain frequency too low and it's finding it hard to come back from, if you lock the screen whilst on a RAM hogging app it will also lag, background processes will also slow it down, for example, always clear your recent apps (Long hold Home button) and clear them, if you have root access (jb only i think) Then try using greenify and freezing background apps you dont want either running/receiving notifications from.
If you are still on stock you may want to remove bloatware (apps you don't use) Which will also be churning away in the background slowing down your phone, make sure in your settings you will also have that there is no delay and that lock button INSTANTLY locks the phone and then try again and post back if it's helped or not, if not then we should start looking at other factors it could be, perhaps a week tegra variant and we should look into a custom kernel and raising the minimum frequency a tad and seeing whether or not that will help.

I maybe should have mentioned that it isn't every time that there is this delay, maybe every second time on average - sometimes more often, sometimes not at all.
Having had this problem with different firmwares and also with a cleanly wiped phone, even with a fresh install of CM when I hadn't even flashed the Gapps package, makes me think that this very likely isn'ta bloatware issue.
Changing the CPU governor to performance had no effect either.

Hello guys...
well... this is will be my first flash using android tools ((from symbian i'm quite used to it)).... this is my second android ((today I own a Xperia Z1 and before a Motorola Razr i, which i never flashed))...
and I have some questions regarding this flashing procedure.... some one mind just clarify me around some doubts ??
1 - after I flashed my mobile and if I regret, can i reinstall the flash the sony fw in the same way? i mean, download it from sonymobile.com and flash it? is this works?
2- these custom roms to Z1 ((cyanogem, miui, and so on)) are the pure android with sony drivers OR are they the same from sony but modified? I'm asking this because i like ((and use so much)) the sony features like stamina, throw, screen mirroring ((I use this one a lot to play on my tv))... If these ""sony features"" doesn't come ""out of box"" when I flash a custom rom, can i install them later?? I never saw any video showing these stuffs or any at all...
3- these custom roms can I enable and disable animations and other things to enhance my phone?? because with my previous phone ((Motorola Razr i)) i was able to do this and much more, and this save battery a lot... can I do this?? if yes, mind to attach a screenshot to show what can do? I was reading many other forums ((including from sonymobile) and even there they complain about drain battery and random freezes, just like I'm having these days....
4 - Ok... i read a lot but I couldn't understand exactly what is TWRP.... mind to explain as if i 6yo?? =)
5 - Is it normal to screen not shows up when I press the power button to ""wake up"" the screen?? I mean... sometimes i want to check my phone, and when I press the Power button the screen just freezes in black, not showing anything .... and just show something after some seconds ((ten or more)) or after i press the Power button for some seconds as if i want to shut it down.... this happens more ""often"" if i press the Power button to lock and after 2, 3 seconds i have the need to use the phone again ((which this never happen with my Razr i))...
6 - my phone heats a lot.... i mean.... a really lot.... is that normal?? i was reading about this and many other z1 owners complains from this same thing...
thanks in advance =)
1. Yes
2. If you install cyanogen or other AOSP roms, you need to unlock bootloader. also you will loose stamina mode and other sony features. i dont think you can get them back, look around in other sections.
3. It could. Honestly, my z1 hasn't frozen on me ever. I am on stock rooted 761 fw. If you want to disable animations go to developer options and disable the animations there, you can do it both in stock sony and aosp.
4. Twrp is a recovery, you need it to flash roms and do backups of your phone. Team win recovery project.
5. I do not know if its normal as my z1 is very responsive, no delay in screen opening time even when i underclocked the cpu to 1.7Ghz
6. Yes it does tend to heat up after prolonged gaming etc. You can lessen it by underclocking. It works trust me

minor questions regarding your answer...
#3 - mine z1 freezes everyday... and i dont have too many apps installed... just a few.... for real... like 20 apps... only 2 games...
#4 - ok... finally i got it =)
#5 - mind to make a test with your own? press the power button normally, as if you gonna lay it down... then, after 2 or 3 seconds, press again the power button, as if you wish to check the hours or a message.... try this at least 5 times if you dont mind..... so... it worked all the times flawlessly?
#6 - nope.... even if im not using it.... not doing anything at all...

#3 - maybe the RAM is cluttered?
#5 - I did it around 8 times. Turned off the display, waited for 2-5 seconds then turned it on. Works flawlessly. No lag. My device is even underclocked when it is in sleep or display off. When the display is off, i set it to run between 300 - 900something Mhz because I found that the device could still respond without any lag with that setting when turning the display on. When the display is on its 300Mhz to 1.7Ghz.
#6 - maybe have it checked at a sony center.

You can underclock in stock rom, just need root access.
