Congratulations. Not doing anything with your tablet. What's the deal. Just use it the whole day and charge when you are sleeping instead of vice versa.

I'm having a strange issue with mine. Every time it goes down to around 8 or 7 % my nexus 7 completely dies. I've tried a couple of different kernels and same issue. I'm on CM10 nightly right now but I've also had the same issue on stock

Deep discharges can be bad for Lithium Polymer batteries, I hear.

I was working mostly with my laptop, so didn't get to use the tablet as much. But it's nice to see that the battery (and possibly JB 4.1.2 standard power management) can get my stock, rooted 16GB Nexus 7 to survive for over a week between charges.
Good job, Google / Asus !

This is still far away from the 300 hours which are written down by Google in the technical specs. I really wonder how they got this.
If you leave it on standby with wifi disconnected it can easy go a whole day and only drop 1-3% mine stays in my bag 8-10 hours a day without the number changing.

Interesting. Do you have some background apps installed?
Anyway, I think the Android System needs too much battery. The Apple devices have an amazing standby time. (I have an old iPod touch 2g MC, a short while ago the iPod had a standby time of 19 days. And the battery wasn't empty...)

Yep. I also turn off my WiFi on standby time and it can manage easily like 2-3 days of normal use but with the WiFI ON I get poor battery performance. No idea what is causing it. It basically shows no difference if the screen is on or off. When I leave it with WiFi On and I have like 3 inboxes/Facebook Messanger/ It just drains battery like crazy.
I tried to optimize it by looking into services and processes that run in the background. Killed everything and still it was that bad with WiFi turned on. It is a little sad : <

This is very easy to achieve. If doing nothing, my Nexus 7 consume about 1% per 8 hours.
as "normal" people above have stated multiple times, nothing amazing there. quite the contrary: even with more or less the same usage, my work-provided ipad 2 (3G and WiFi) runs much longer. WiFi is a real battery killer with the 7, no doubt about that.

Yes, I go into wifi advance settings and set it to never be connected while sleeping. I think I can go a month without charging if I set it up this way and never touch it like OP did.

Jesus how do you do it? I go through withdrawal after a few hours without using my tab.

I agree with others, that's not too hard to reach if you just leave it sitting there the whole time. I haven't charged my iPad 3 in probably two weeks and it's still holding a charge, but I haven't been using it. I actually use my Nexus, normally at work to conserve the battery on my phone lol.
Standby time doesn't matter. Screen on time is more important (to me at least). I just got over 9hrs on my last cycle

They're called wakelocks. You can get better battery stats from the xda app section to see what is causing it. It's usually a rogue app or sync settings.

Agreed. Mine has blown my E4GT away in battery life, and I haven't even been using the little tricks like turning data off when I'm at work yet.
I normally would have to plug mine in by noon after being unplugged since 7am. And that was screen halfway dimmed and barely any use

All phones have ****ty battery life when you're hacking and popping bursters everywhere. But my GS4 has done the best so far!
I'm excited to see it. I'll leave my house with a full charge, and streaming radio over 3G to my bluetooth headset for 2 hours and browsing the web for 20 minutes knocks my Evo 3D down to 30%.

How?? I only get 4 hrs of screen on time when I have wifi on, power saving mode on, and have brightness at the bare minimum.. Did you 5 hr screen timers do something else to your device like disable sprint bloatware or something?

Not doing anything special here. Haven't removed any bloat yet, not using power saving mode, using auto brightness.
Maybe I just have a strong signal. Weak signal can cause the radio to ramp up power and chew up a lot of battery...

Six and a half hours and it's almost at 50%. I had an iPhone before this phone, and if I used it half as much as I have been using my phone today, it would probably be at around 10-20%. I love the battery life. Screen has been on half brightness, WiFi/Bluetooth off, no battery saving mode on.

That's good to hear. I've been using a One M8 practically in place of my 5s all day today and with battery saver on (only decreasing CPU speeds) but Wi-Fi off the entire time (just 4G LTE), I'm only down to 48% after being unplugged for 13.5 hours. Looking forward to what my GS5 will deliver.
Coming from the iPhone 5 (had the 5S, but got damaged so I switched back to the 5 during the waiting period) the battery on the GS5 is incredible. I'm just now doing a full charge cycle, so I'll report back later with some battery results, but I can already tell I will be very happy with this.
I just plugged my phone in so I wasn't able to take a screen cap. I was at 32% battery left with 16 hours on battery with about 4 hours and 2 minutes of screen on use. Most of the day was on LTE, but I did not turn off the wifi radio. All background data options were left on along with location services.
not great..barely got through the day with fairly heavy use. 4 hours screen on time.
Not doing so good. It is the first full charge so I will judge it after it has a day or two to settle in.

Mine is hit or miss, doing the same things with the phone at the same places every day, some days it is decent and I will have 40-50% left when I get home, other days (like today) it was almost totally dead. That's with sync and wifi on, but location turned off. Its decent, but far from great IMO.
The battery life is WAY better than my wife's Nexus 5, but it is garbage compared to my international Note 2 I was using previously. I'd have 70-80% left when I got got home doing the same stuff as I am with the S5, plus I would leave Bluetooth, wifi, sync, location, and GPS on all the time.

Holding up much better than my S4 which I returned as I could barely get it to go 3/4 of a day without dying with normal usage. Now I end the day with at least 30% left. Also outperforming my iPhone 5S which would be close to dead by the end of the day. Very impressed!
great battery
I had an S3 before. When left alone at night, I can see phone 'Awake' numerous times. As viewed from Battery settings.
Except Gmail, I had sync disabled on every app. I also had most of the apps greenified. Still phone wakes up numerous times at night when not in use.
With S5, I have installed all the apps I had on S3. I have configured only few of them. None of them are greenified now. Also, I have left more apps to sync in background. Previous night, in the 9 hrs I left it alone, it woke only 2 times. Thats really good. In that 9 idle hours, battery dropped only 4%.
Battery is similar to the m8 (very good)... I'm thinking I'm going to have to return the htc

I'm really not getting very good battery life at all. I am shocked when I hear of others getting 5+ hours of screen on time. I'm getting nowhere near that and unfortunately for me I'm on my phone all day for work (calls, emails, etc.) because I work from home. This is also my 2nd SGS5. The first was having major screen issues and the capacitive buttons stopped lighting up for some reason.

Have you disabled all of the built in apps you aren't using? Try to cycle your battery. Go on your Google account and disable sync on thin you don't need. Or call ATT and ask for a replacement under warranty maybe your battery is bad. They are very good when it comes to warranty exchanges. Best of luck.

Fantastic battery life so far. Since unplugging it from the charger Wednesday morning, my battery is at 86% this morning! I do have the power saving mode on (not the ultra power saving mode, the regular one), and don't use it a whole lot during the day (not for hours on end at least, just a few minutes here and there)
Better battery life that I was getting on my S4.
I average about 5-6 hours screen time every day no matter if on WiFi or data.... I bet I could crack 7 if I was on Wi-Fi the whole time but yeah, coming from the nexus 5, this thing kicks the crap out of it in battery department

The stats you posted shows there isn't much running in the background. I would say do a factory reset:
Turn the phone off
Hold volume up+home+power buttons
Use volume keys to scroll down to wipe data+cache. Power button to select. Warning: your apps and progress are gonna be gone.
Let it boot up normally. Start installing apps and setup your phone. It takes 2 or 3 charge cycles and a couple of reboots to reach optimized battery usage.
Tip: dialing *#*#4636#*#*
1- you can check the health state of your battery (does it charge to 100%? My battery voltage at 74% charge is 4013mV)
2- you can go to device information and turn off LTE from preferred network types. This saves battery when phone is sitting idle or if you're on your homes WiFi and it is faster than LTE anyway

Yeah, you definitely have something going on there. Assuming don't have power hungry apps running in the background, I would say you either gotta do a factory reset or swap out the battery. Those stats are definitely not normal.
I'll get the screen on time up to about 7.5hrs before it dies out on me on this cycle. After the few few initial cycles, my stats have evened out and become more consistent. Have you tried doing a hard power cycle by removing the battery and keeping it out for at least a minute? If not, I would give that a try before your next full charge.
I'm also experiencing pretty subpar battery (I disabled all the bloatware etc.). It was rapidly draining at first but I managed to 'slow it down'. That being said, I only charged this phone once since I just got it. Is it possible that my battery will 'optimize' after a few cycles or should I save myself the trouble and factory reset now?

Yup, that's basically all you do. Either let it die completely or have it a few % off from dying, take it out and let it sit for at least a minute. I'd keep it out for about 5 minutes, though. Pop it back in, fully charge and see if anything has changed. If not, it looks like a factory reset or replacing the battery would be your next steps, unfortunately.

If you can't see the problem in app usage stats, try an app like Watchdog .

After my first full charge from 0%, these are my battery results at 9%. Has been mainly used for Tapatalk, Facebook, 2 email accounts, Web browsing and general messing around. Only used for a small amount of video useage. Screen brightness was set at about 35-40% most of the time. Hopefully will get even better after a few more charge cycle's.
Whats other people's results?

My "screen on time", is the same as my " battery time." I had my brightness on 50% and it was also on power saver. The only time I don't use power saver is when I'm using games. My battery drain was for watching videos (YouTube, Netflix) ,Tapatalk app all day, and web browsing.
Almost 7 hours with 53% battery drain. That's fantastic for me and my usage.
so far mine is pretty awful lol my nexus 7 seemed to have better life but we'll see!

hmm lost 7 percent idling overnight. don't really like that.. hoping this battery is just breaking in because a 4900mah battery should be getting better life than my 3000mah LG g2, and so far it isn't lol

So far the Tab S seems to be getting less battery life in mixed use than my Gpad 8.3 and Galaxy Pro 8.4. I've been spoiled by the Nexus 7's 10+ hour of screen on time and none of the 8+ inch tablets get near it. I find when I leave home I take my Nexus 7 because of the great battery life. Sometimes 6-7 hours is not enough.

It seems that our device, for some reason, is not going into deep sleep mode. I saw my battery info under the settings menu, it's always awake. Can someone confirm this?

Go into settings, connections, wifi and check the setting that switches wifi off when in sleep mode. Saves battery for me.

honestly I don't get why the standby time on this battery is so bad. it's 4900mah and yet I drain 10 percent within 11 hours, whereas my 3000mah g2 will drain 1 to 3 percent. it's ridiculous. this is with 8 min screen on time and the Google search awake time is only about 5 minutes. stupid TouchWiz.

I actually find standby time on the 8.4 really good. Screen on time is between 5 to 6 hours for me with moderate to heavy use. I would like more, maybe future updates will improve this.
Have you calibrated the battery? I let my battery run down until it switches off. I usually do this about once a month on my other gadgets. It seems to help. Also battery life should improve after the first week.

Letting a lipo battery die completely shortens it's life.
GM only let's the lipo batteries in the Chevy volt go down half way before the volt stops using them. This makes the volt battery last 10 years instead of the 2 to 4 years most electronic devices get out of lipo batteries

As far as I know the batteries don't die completely. They automatically power down when the battery gets to near empty.
Been doing this to my iPad 3 since they were released and battery life is still great after all this time. My galaxy Note 2 hasn't suffered any ill effects either.
