[Q] Regarding ROMs and firmware upgrade - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I just upgraded my Galaxy Note N7k to the leaked official JB ROM, Build:N7000XXLS1. I wanted to ask that when the official firmware will be released, would I be able to upgrade to the official JB via OTA even if i am using the ROM? Or do I need to go back to Stock ROM and update it from there?
Kindly answer this question as I am quite confused.

In my opinion -NO.. you will have to go back to last official ics before you can update ota to official jb..

Ofcourse you will recieve the ota update of jb but i guess you may not get it as soon as the jb gets released
The updates will be released on the country basis and i guess it will be first released for germany
You will get the update when the update for your country gets released

That's probably an official ROM.. Where did you get it from?
Hey there,
I grabbed it off samfirmware.com
Anyway, can anyone verify with me?
you can get official rom from KIES
If you flash a older firmware I'm sure Kies will update you to the newest official firmware of your region.
Also this should be in Q/A...

Your ROM has a valid date code and hence should be official. All the leaked ROMs have date codes like JMx (Eclair), JPx (Froyo)
For your ROM J = 2010 and G = July (A = Jan, L = Dec). There could be no M or P month after that, hence they are essentially leaked ROMs which are not officially supported.
I see a caveat here - some people report that a JMx ROM is officially supplied to them through KIES or their local service centers. I don't believe so and can only see valid timestamped ROMs as official and supported.
Hey, I have a Singapore I9000 and am on stock FW.
I am basing the official FW based on Kies which says that for me I am on the latest official FW which is DXJG4. Official firmwares I believe only come through Kies.

latest firmware for singapore users should be dxjg4.
at least off kies anyway!

New firmware received via KIES

Yesterday I received a new firmware for my Swisscom 3G Galaxy Tab when i launched Kies.
First it asked me to update Kies, then after system reboot, it suddenly asked my if i'ld like to update to the new firmware. Anxious of getting Gingerbread, I chosen yes.
Guess what ...
No Gingerbread but Froyo 2.2.1
GT-P1000
Baseband: P1000XXJMI
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: Froyo XWJMJ
Kies did not give me any further updates after this.
So, still, no GB
Cheers
Martin
Gingerbread has started rolling out and you can now update to it via Odin.

Did you read the 1st reply to the OP?!
is there a way not to do a full wipe when installing gingerbread?
I heard that firmware 2.2.1 must be installed before gingerbread can be deployed. So it is probably good that you installed it.
Now if you really want gingerbread today go to the developers section and install the Overcome rom. In its thread you'll find a great guide if followed the installation is very simple.

Same here.
But on my Tab it still says Froyo 2.2, but the kernel is the same, as well the baseband and Build.
I was hoping for GB...

4.1.2 for unbranded phones

Hi.
Is it normal that some devices started receiving 4.1.2 in December, while others like mine, there is still no update for 4.1.2 (CSC-I8190OXXALJ8, Europe, Portugal, UNBRANDED)?
My unbranded Xperia received ICS (4.0.3) the day Sony released it. Also, when Sony released ICS 4.0.4, there was also no waiting time. Is this normal on Samsung?
PS: I know i can use Odin.

I have XXALJ8 and have 4.1.2.
Ok. Just checked. Looks like there is no 4.1.2 update for Portugal on Sammobile.
Well i guess you will have to wait.

I'm tired of waiting for 4.1.2 (I8190OXXALJ8).
So i'll use odin to flash this firmware I8190XXAMB2 (Spain), downloaded from sammobile, official, not rooted.
Two questions:
1-Will i be unable to update through Kies?
2-Will i lose warranty?
3-When 4.1.2 is released for my phone can i revert back to 4.1.1 (I8190OXXALJ8; already downloaded from sammobile) and update to 4.1.2?
4-Will this increase counter?
Thanks

What version of GB you have? Maybe it is not from India, and that is why you do not have OTA update.
This JB (India I9070DDULP8) is in http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
But I have runnig I9070XXLQE and works like a charm.
Take any you want on sammobile :cyclops: i'ts safe!
