Hi,
I am experiencing problems with my Galaxy Note when doing any type of browsing through 3G. The problem started when I first upgraded to ICS 4.0.3. At that time I wanted to limit some applications from accessing the internet through 3G, so DroidWall was installed. Eventually the device was upgraded to 4.0.4. However, after that upgrade, the phone started behaving awfully when using internet through 3G. That is the only problem and since it happened after I installed DroidWall, I don't see any other cause of the issue.
So far I have re-installed the official ICS quite a few times. UK versions as well as Germany. Also installed 4.0.3 again. No luck.
DroidWall was also re-installed, but it doesn't help at all.
It is actually really strange to describe the issue as the Internet through 3G is not completely inaccessible. Its more like most of the modules that require Internet does not connect. For example, when trying to browse, I get the following error:
goo gl/77nTx
Also when I browse the Apps on Play, it shows only the text, but not the picture for example and it also does not allows me to download:
goo gl/xSX9I
The only option that I am currently considering is re-partition, but that might cause even more problems. So I am completely open for suggestions if someone has experienced this before or have an idea what might be causing it and how to fix it.
Sorry for not being able to provide the links properly and if that way is also against the rules, please excuse me and remove the links. I just couldn't figure out a better way to describe the situation without screens.
Thanks,
Nikolay

Have you tried removing DroidWall completely & accessing 3G?
May be the droidwall has messed up ur iptables.
u mite need a factory reset. but do it on a safe kernel.
I've tried with and without DroidWall. It doesn't make any difference.Tried with different version of ICS. Again no difference.
Factory Reset as well as deleting the cache also tried. No difference. It is like you described maybe IPTables has been messed up. Just wonder why Factory Reset and re-install didn't help at all. It looks like a permanent change that has been made and I have no idea how to fix it.
Nokia, did you mean I might have to do factory reset after changing the kernel? And what did you mean by 'safe kernel'?
Thanks for the responses

Safe Kernel means, any kernel with "EMMC_CAP_ERASE" command removed frm it..in Stock ICS kernel EMMC_CAP_ERASE exists & doing Factory Reset/Wiping Cache will hard brick your phone..there r many safe kernels like Hydracore, Philz, Speedmode etc etc.. here is the link for the kernel repository.. u wl get all the safe kernels here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789397
where did u do the factory reset from? settings ior cwm?
first of all, check if your access point settings are correct. may be try removing and re entering them again after confirmation that it has the right details
installing ics again and again mite not work cuz its a non wipe rom and doesn't clear all settings as all ur data is preserved.
what I would suggest is to install a wipe GB rom using pc odin. Make sure u have backup. The links can be found in one of the stickies in android original dev section. thread by Dr ketan.
Okay guys. Tried everything. Changing the Kernel included as advised above. Got tired and decided to risk it and try a re-partition. Seems like this completely erased everything and the phone is now working as it did. It was a really risky move, especially for someone who hasn't done it before, but it worth it.
Thanks for all the input. Hopefully this will help anyone that experience this specific and strange issue.
Nikolay
so u used a PIT file with ICS?

OK, I have tried absolutely everything. I have scoured the bowels of XDA and cannot find a resolution so please don't say UTFSE.
Ever since the 8/23 nightly on CM6 I cannot get WiFi to work properly. I tried flashing alternative kernels which work fine temporarily. After an extended time the WiFi will stop working randomly. I checked to see if the WiFi sleep policy was set incorrectly which it wasn't.
I have used IntersectRavens, WildMonks, Pershoot's and Cyanogens stock kernels. IR and WildMonks kernels works temporarily. Other people are having the same issues on Google Code. The link to that is https://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=2211
The logcat for the issue is at https://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/attachmentText?id=2211&aid=-2810531155679896350&name=CM6_wifi_bug.logcat.txt&token=1da7e89ef60e0b20b3aa36c3b1af6746 I have flashed alternative ROM's such as PFY, Enomther, MCR, KingKlick's ROMs, Sense ROM's and the WiFi works perfectly. Can someone please help me out as I have been a month without WiFi on CyanogenMod and its driving me nuts?

A.) No its not the wrong forum. It is a development issue.
B.) Yes I have tried EVERY nightly and of course CM6 Final.
Thanks for the no help.
Do you have your SSID set to not broadcast, are you using MAC filters, what type of encryption are you using? All things that would get you an answer quicker.
PS. Also, obviously not the right forum as the moderators saw fit to move it to Q&A
PSS. Have you tried doing a full wipe and then installing the latest CM6 nightly (obviously do a nandroid first) to see if there's any issue with a clean install?

Yes my SSID is hidden, I use Mac filters (I checked them), and I'm using WPA2.
I also wiped before I tried every build. I had no issues with ANY other ROM's. I've flashed EVERY build since 8/23 including updates during the day and still can't get it to work. I've also formatted my SD card every different way also.
P.S Your absolutely right
Well, with the extensive security you have set on your network, may I ask; why are you still hiding your SSID? It seems a little overkill and doesn't really solve keeping a hacker out of your network if they really wanted in as every single wifi-analyzer application can detect hidden SSID's (netstumbler, kismet, wardrive, etc). Does the problem still exist if you turn back on broadcast SSID?
PS. When you say wipe, are you doing a full wipe or just a wipe of dalvik and cache?

First of all I know it's easy to find the Mac addresses and spoof them blah blah. My router has been working fine and with all my other electronics. If it was a problem with the network then SenseUI and non-CM ROM's wouldn't work either. Also wipe as in everything. I've been doing this since the G1 came out.
That's why I didn't want this question in Q&A. I'm not trying to troubleshoot a problem with wiping or flashing a ROM. I attached a logcat so a DEVELOPER could look at it. It's a problem that cant be solved by wiping or flashing or my network settings. I have been at this for a month. I'm also not the only one having this issue as you can see at Google Code. A couple of people are having this issue not just me.
EDIT: MOD'S - Can you please move this topic back into Nexus One Development please? I believe they would be able to help me better over there. Thanks
I did see this being discussed for awhile in the CM6 final thread and I think they came to the conclusion of just broadcast your SSID for now. It's a known bug and set to Low priority on the tracker. That's about the best you can hope for at the moment. Might I also suggest that you post this issue in the official CM forums? You might get more of a response from the actual developers over there.
Hey guys,
I'm fairly new to the modding of Android phones (my previous phone was a TYTN II) and I'm having some problems restoring my backups via Clockwork mod (which is a bit of a pain in the ass for me, as I think you understand).
Ive tried to flash my phone and stuff, but I can't download apps from market/start google talk (I know this is related to eachother) when I have a mdc rom installed. This is not really the problem I'm asking a solution for, but the real problem is, that I can't go back to my old rom and stuff. I have rooted my phone, installed CWM, made a backup, but somehow it keeps freezing at the loading screen of the phone whenever I have restored a backup and reboot the phone.
Atm I have resetted my phone with NVFlash, I have not yet innstalled anything but I still have a backup which I'd like to restore. This is my situation:
LG-P990: Android 2.2.2, Baseband 1035.21_20110315 (I updated this with Paul's update), Kernel 2.6.32.9, Build: FRG83G, LGE version: v10b.
Anyone has an idea what I'm doing wrong? Did I miss a step in the process? Please help me out!
I'm no expert, so you should probably wait for one of them, but I had a similar problem and it's important to do a wipe before installing the ROM. (There's two wipe options, run them both)

please check if the DATE in your settings is correct. the rom I had previously installed was set to MAY and this made it impossible to use gtalk and download roms.
yeah sounds silly, but worth checking
ah well since you have reset already. but maybe you get back in the same situation at one time.
Thanks for the quick replies.
@Marco_ch: I already tried the date problem, literally went thru 100 of pages to find out what the issue was with the gtalk, but nothing helped, so I'm guessing I made a mistake with the rooting or something...
I already reset, but this is the third time I've reset, I've already tried flashing my device 3 times and each time I end up not being able download apps.
@Jakkelomme: As far as I know there is only 1 wipe option? Reset factory settings? I always do that before I install a rom yes.
well I had the same problem (gtalk, market) but I gave it another shot with this:
http://romkitchen.org/lg/?s=generator
its running brilliantly on my device. have you tried that one yet?
Tried it a few days ago, when it was anotehr version, might try it again now, thanks. Which options do you suggest (I'm not that much of an expert )
Edit: Though i wish someone had a solution for me not being able to restore via CWM!
oh you dont want suggestions from me - I have that device for a couple of days only and dont even know how to properly make a backup
but I chose the following:
EXT 4
Pauls Kernel
Left out all the LG Stuff as I find it kinda useless and laggy
good luck!

Did everything you asked, installed new version of Romkitchen with the stuff you suggested... Still doesnt download appss. Still stuck at "Starting download...". Help, anyone?
Nevermind guys, I fixed it. Turned out the problem WAS with date & time. My provider made the date 12/05/'11 instead of 12/04/'11. It was why I couldnt download from the market. Thank you all for helping out anyway
Hi guys,
My phone has been working great until today. for some reason now when I install a new app, if it is forced close or if I reboot the phone, I lose all the setting for the apps. It only happens to new apps, the one installed before today are (so far) keeping the settings.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Please help. I know some of you might suggest a factory reset, but unless somebody had this problem and reset helped with it, I will hold off on that because if it ends up not working I will be left with all my apps losing their settings all the time.
I am on I9000T on stock Froyo 2.2.1 if that can help.
Anyone? Please I really need help on this one. This has to have happened to somebody here?
Problem with the firmware.!!
I think that there must be a problem with the Firmware .. Try updating your phone via kies or Flashing Gingerbread using ODIN..

Before this, you could try and do a factory reset and see if the problem persists! If it does, then reflash with Odin! Good Luck!
Thanks for replying guys. I have a question: if it is a file system problem, will a firmware update or factory reset help?
Also, I have had this firmware for almost a year now, why would have I a problem with it now, I am not rooted and I have attempted (yet) anything with flashing.
If ur phone has a file-system error Reflashing or factory resetting ur phone will help 4 sure as the files will be cleaned up and installed again..u phone may have dis problem due to any virus... u need to root ur phone 1st then flash gb

I have also had this problem come up on my phone. The phone just crashed on a Sat night and on reboot the software looked like I had taken it out the box brand new. Lucky I had Titanium Backup and restored everything.
Only thing then is that the vast majority of apps don't remember settings and on a start of the app it's in 'first time' mode.
Did a ROM flash using ODIN and default ROM (search this forum for instructions and software if you need it) and this fixed it properly - 12 hours in and no issues.
Credits to Titanium Backup here - like insurance you only know if it's any good when you actually need it.
Hello, I'm using Semaphore + CM10 JB for few weeks (installed with your support).
However I have a problem. The stability. My phone likes to resets byself, even few times per day. It happens irregularly. What's interesting, sometimes phone resets to the CWM. Sometimes resets and backs to work, sometimes totally offs the phone (and i need to pull out the battery) or freeze on cyanogenmod start screen (but not on normal start, only when resets)
Sometimes it happens when i'm using the phone, sometimes not. He likes to do that when i'm sleeping (for example, goes to the CWM and discharge the battery by whole night on full bright).
And much smaller, but maybe important issue: when the phone starts, shows the message Warning! A problem was detected with your device. Your device IMEI number is invalid. And invalid IMEI number could cause network issues including the inability to call emergency numbers.
Firstly I installed CM10, i had the problems with the network, but after @xsenman's help (reinstall with older ROM before flashing CM10) everything works correctly and i can see IMEI too. I made an EFS backup in that old ROM, should i use that? This message doesn't intrude me, but i'm just thinking if this could be connected with reseting problems. My SGS works really nice, but that one issue is really annoying.
100 views and really no one can help?
Come on, i feel so lonely
I'd recommend flashing a clean GB stock, restoring your IMEI, flashing CM9 twice and then flashing CM10 ROMs (if you want them lol). Always be sure that you wipe your phone after installs.

thanks for your answer. However, maybe it's not a ROM problem? Maybe some application makes an issue. Is there any log where i can check that?
That IMEI stuff definitely isn't app-caused. I can only repeat my statement above. Don't worry about data, you can backup everything using Titanium Backup and SMS Backup+.
Btw: What ROM are you on?
Best regards

True, IMEI not, but it's not a real issue for me. Actually, i'm absolutely satisfied of my i9000 (maybe flashlight absence, but it's hardware). Everything works fine, but reseting problem makes me nervous when I use the phone as car dvr or for endomondo ect.
I use Cyanogenmod 10, one of october's nightly versions.
So basically you don't want to change anything but you want us to help you? Sorry, that's not the way a community works.
You didn't understand me. My problem is phone reseting. I want to find the reason of the issue. Because without it, i can install new software and still have the same problem.

Since when has this problem occurred? I doubt an app makes a phone reset itself.
Edit: I looked around your post history and you seem to have posted in the semaphore thread. Maybe something is wrong with the kernel?

Thanks for your answer. It's hard to say because I've flash a ROM and out of hand I installed the applications. It's the worst type of problems, because it doesn't happen instantly or regularly. Actually since i wrote the topic, i didn't see the problem, however i saw two-three times the attention about IMEI, so i think, the phone resets, but not seen.
/// amerkiller: you are using i9000 too, could you recommend me any other ROM? Probably I will need to install a ROM and wait, two-three days and check if the ROM makes any issues.
/// maybe, but how can i check it? It looks like work nice, my question in Semaphore's thread was about the features
I use Remics-JB, you can try it out if you want a Samsung touchwiz feel, and apps from the S3.
Slimbean if you want a minimalist ROM.
Hopefully, the problem will disappear.

Edit: regarding the kernel, you can flash Devil and see if the problem persists.

Ok, so i want to reflash my i9000. So - i have JVU's gingerbread ROM, is that correct stock ROM? Should i make the WIPE here? I'm not sure about restoring IMEI. Should i do that in GB's temporary ROM or (as I think) later in JB's? Of course, earlier I need to backup the efs folder with IMEI so i think i should do that in GB's and restore it in CM10 (or in Slimbean which I want to test). And one more doubt. You said flashing CM9 twice. Why is that? And how can I do that if i'm installing the ROM in CWM?

You can find tutorials about flashing to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Flashing the stock ROM will recover your IMEI number if you currently don't have it and will wipe your personal files. Backup your IMEI while you're on GB and if you lose it, then restore it. Fyi I never lost my IMEI, it's not common. You should flash JB / cm10 twice, ICS/cm9 should be okay after one flash. Remember to wipe if the instructions say so.
When you'll attempt to flash cm10 in recovery, you'll get a warning about partition change. You'll have to chose to flash second time, this time it should work and the phone will reboot into a bootloop. Pull out the battery and enter recovery and flash cm10 again. This time it well install and reboot successfully.

Hi, thanks for your interest
Two days ago I made a re-flash Stock > CWM > CM9 (twice) > CM10
Attention about IMEI doesn't longer appear
I've installed apps. The phone has resets for a one time when I was using some app. It is not a big problem for me if SGS makes that from time to time (maybe some apps are not adapted to the JB very well). However today I used him to record my drive (dailyroads voyager) and when i tried to stop the recording, he doesn't backs to life (just I needed to pull the battery out) and video file was corrupted. But when I was getting back to home it worked correctly. I have no idea why that's happen.

Ok, I'll look on it.
I have one other question and maybe you will know.
Call recording. There are two options for use this feature. Simple MIC recording apps and 'two-way call recording' which is much better, however it needs kernel with handle of it. I didn't find anyone for SGS, so I want to use MIC recording. There are many apps in Google Play. However any of them makes 0kB files of record on JB's CM10. When I was using gingerbread it didn't worked too however files were good, but the second side of call didn't hear me.

Hi guys, I have an old G1 at home that I've been using as a time killer, to play chess and some music. I want to try changing the ROM on it, because I have some problems with it, but i'm not sure where to begin. I'll give a quick rundown of the phone's problems and what I'm trying to do. This is an old machine I bought for my dad awhile ago. It's not been used for some time and I wanna to do something with it. It has a lot of problems which I don't understand. For example I cannot connect to google nor through a data plan on a simcard or through Wifi. I've seen threads having some tips on this but none helped. Same problem with some applications - facebook, teamviewer and so on. They just won't connect, although wifi works fine with the browser, so I don't know what going on. There are other problems as well and I think it's running slower than it should because it won't even manage to do stuff a generic G1 should - videos have to be heavily converted to even run - trying any video player is useless - it'll lag as hell. I have to convert to a specific audio and video format with lowered fps, then it runs ok, but still only using the generic video player. Anything else will just become a comic book.
Anyway - this is a phone I got off eBay and it already came rooted and with the Super D rom loaded (kernel 2.6.29.6-SuperD) So because all the problems I want to reflash it completely to try find out, whether it's all hardware related or the rom's unstable... Now, because it is already rooted and I'm new to this, I don't know where to start.
I have looked through a few rooting/flashing guides, but my problems is: I don't know whether I need to do it all, or can skip a few steps, because it being rooted already. For example whether I need to downgrade anything again, or not before going on. My first important question is, is there a point in flashing anything higher than android 1.6? As the phone is very limited with it's resources, I'm not sure, whether for example flashing the 2.2 froyo CM rom will do any good. Secondly: there are several different guides out there and I don't know which one is good for me. I believe I tried the one click thing once, but it didn't work then, but not sure what was the problem. I presume it is because I either didn't have to do all of it, or I didn't do something else I was supposed to.
So all in all, if someone could point me to a good guide, that would take in account the option, that it already is rooted and I just need to change the Rom, it would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I would do is just factory reset it through recovery (power on while holding home) and see if all works after this. Super d is for sure one of my favorite donut ROMs and it shouldn't be having the issues you have.
If that does little or nothing than write down all info from bootloader (power on while holding camera) here and the version of recovery you have (written in recovery screen)

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. I've already reset it multiple times, but it didn't change anything. What most angers me, is the Wifi issue (because I know my dad has been using his dataplan and it worked fine and when I tried it later, it just didn't work anymore) and the video thing.
As for the info:
Hboot-1.33.2005 (Drea11000)
Clpd-4
Radio-2.22.23.02
Recovery is ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.7

Yes it is strange, try finding a ROM called donut by Laszlo, search is down right now but it should be within the first five pages or so in developers thread. Put on sdcard along with this
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291678371
First flash super wipe in recovery and then flash new ROM
If it all does not work still we will go from there

Right, so I've got some new info on this. I wanted to go reflash, but just for the sake of it, I re-wiped though recovery and nothing changed. then on the second time, the market suddeny started working through wifi, which it has not for the past few months, even after 3 or 4 wipes. So it started working, but the signal kept failing. It found the first application, downloaded, installed, then "network problem" so I reflashed using the files you mentioned. It worked beautifully on the first fly, for which I am grateful. This was my main concern - I had no idea, whether I needed to change the radio or bootloader or anything prior to trying to flash the rom. So the rom works nice, the market and facebook and teamviewer do connect now using wifi, but I keep loosing the signal. Better said - he stays connected to wifi, just that the applications keep throwing network errors and loose connection. So I presume, it will be either hardware related, or I was wondering, if a change of radio might help... Secondly, I keep getting one more problem I had with the old Rom and that is - when using ES File explorer, when I close by pushing the back button, it closes and then an error says it stopped working and needs force closing. Wondering how this kind of error can transfer between different Roms. Again - posibly hardware related? I don't know.
Anyway, the rom works nice, so I'll try it out and see if it's better than the previous one. One question though - when flashing to a different Rom, do all of them have specific requirements for radio and bootloader and recovery and so on, or is the setup I have ok for flashing anything, that is suited for the G1?
EDIT: One more thing I just remembered. The Superwipe, as I read the description, was supposed to wipe everything + the SD card as well. First of all I noticed that it took just about a second or two, which I thought was a bit too quick, but the SD card was not wiped at all, so I'm thinking, that theoretically there could be a file on there, that causes the problems, that have transfered from Rom to Rom, as it was not wiped at all. I'll reformat the SD card, superwipe it, reflash the Rom and see what will happen. Will post the results first thing tomorrow.
It only wipes ext partition not fat32
Only newer ROMs will require a different bootloader/radio, which also will give you more ram so it is preferred. See ezterrys post on the 2708+ update or read the through the thread below this on where I discussed the benefits of upgrading with another dream user

Right, so from what I see from the other thread of yours, CM5 should be a good Rom to try. I will definitely wanna go there, cause while the current Rom seems a bit better than the Super D, it seems it uses up more memory - can't install as many apps as before and I'm keeping it pretty low on apps. And I definitely want to see, whether it will improve any of the lingering problems I've been having, or whether it'll be worse. So judging by what you told the other guy, I already have the right bootloader as I have the 2005 with fastboot enabled, but I'll have to update the radio. Here's what I'm not sure and that is, which to choose. Should I stay with the current SPL and get the same radio the other guy had (RADIO-2.22.19.26i) or should I go straight for the 13d SPL with radio-2.22.27.08? I would say, for now would be safer to stay with current SPL, update the radio and then flash Rom + Gapps and see what it does. Plus if I remember right, you said that to get the ramhack I need the 13d spl, which doesn't support fastboot...
You got it all, well you don't need to change radios, the one he has is a Europe version, yours is more us. Both work fine for cupcake, donut and eclair ROMs. You can try out the other if you were getting poor reception but not needed
Cm5 will work fine for you as of now, just full make a backup, wipe, superwipe, fastboot -w whatever, then flash ROM, then gapps then reboot
The ram hack is awesome but so is learning fastboot. I do recommend you at some point upgrade to the .13d SPL but I think its a good idea to flash a few things first and be comfortable before doing so. If you have issues having fastboot is helpful in fixing things

Ok. So what I did is partition the SD card using the nice "Mini tool partition wizard" and went for a 250 MB ext4, made a backup, left the radio be so far, wiped, flashed the CM5 and Gapps and I have to say I'm impressed at how swift the Rom works. It appears to be generally faster than both the SuperD and Laszlo Donut Roms. I have been testing it only a short while yet, but the wifi, although it shows constantly weak signal (one or two lines), it hadn't lost connection yet, which gives me hope and the apps2ext seems to work perfectly right away. At least I'm able to move them around and it installs straight there, without any failure so far and the apps work so thumbs up.
This deserves a big thanks to you for the supplied info. Before I wrote this thread, I was about to try one of the long guides - which would take me through downgrading and everything - you saved me a lot of stress man I'll play around with this and will try going for the ram hack a bit later. I'll let you know any bugs I notice...
P.S.: You were right to suggest getting familiar with fastboot and adb - it's a great thing and it's good to know I've got it set up and running fine.
