So i'm at a point where my wi-fi wont turn on, background syncing is having problems, cpu is running slow, and i've already restored my phone once.
so far how i managed to **** it up:
-tried editing framework-res.apk causing brick, 4 hours later i manage to restore to stock, reroot, and restore apps/settings through titanium backup
-download one power guard, sees phone is slowing down and it not helping much so remove it
-having issues with background sync, emails don't come in, calendar doesn't automatically update, smartwatch not receiving notifications
-flash a kernel 77.12.22 using the kernel changer on forums
-wi-fi doesnt turn on
-flash back to original kernel with wi-fi still not working
i'm wondering if anyone could point me to what i can do to fix it rather than reflash the stock OS and having to load the backup again
UPDATE: flashed to 77.12.17 and wifi is working again
I still cant figure out how to make the background sync work again for me, it's very frustrating

Since I manually upgraded from EPE54B to FRF85B to FRF91, my phone has been freezing a lot. I don't really see a pattern to it as far as which apps are open when it freezes. It has happened on Handcent, browsing, Gmail, and probably a couple other apps. Anybody know what could be causing this?
yes u are right, its freezing.
Try this, from lostinbeta:
Yes, boot into recovery (turn off the device, then hold down the trackball while powering on the device)... then follow the instructions to navigate to the recovery window)... I believe when you get to recovery you get an android with an exclamation point.... press volume up, volume down, and power button all at the same time to access the submenus. Wipe should be in there. Works for non-rooted and locked phones. It's the same way I did my manual 2.2 update.
Wouldn't that wipe all the data on my phone?
Select the wipe cache option first and see if that fixes the issue. That only clears the cache partition and not the phone data.
If it doesnt then you might want/have to do a factory wipe which will delete all ur info (so back them up first).
I wiped the cache, but that didn't help. I decided to try disabling some applications to see if one of them was causing the problem. I think I may have found it. I disabled some of the options on LauncherPro that said they could cause instability, and I haven't had a problem since.
I'm having problems with the phone freezing as well.
i had a problem freezing too and i jus did a factory reset/data wipe in recovery and everything came out good no freezes, did manual updates too
I ended up doing a factory reset/wipe as well, and that fixed the problem for me.
Go to the market and grab Process Manager Full. Kill some of the apps running in the background like mail, browser, music or stuff that isn't a service. Free up some memory and see it that temporarily fixes freezing. We all deal with this and for myself, closing apps always unfreezes the phone.
Is there a way to solve this problem without factory wipe? Mine freezes 5 times a day....
On FRF91

I was going through this as well. If I fell back to the original ERD PASSIMG and then updated to ERE27 and stayed there things were fine.
As soon as FRF91 got pushed to my phone it would begin running hotter and lock up / restart many times per day. Yesterday alone I counted five lock-ups in 45 minutes while out shopping with my wife.
I finally got frustrated and last night I rooted my phone and did the hack needed to block the 2.2 OTA. I am currently running rooted 2.1 ERE27 (otherwise stock) and my phone is behaving nicely.
I haven't had a single lock-up/reboot since I rooted. There are some things I miss from FroYo now (like properly working hands-free Bluetooth) but I can live without if it means my phone is behaving properly.
Your still going to get the OTA, I restored one of my nandriod backups FRF85, and the OTA was waiting for me after bootup. You can't flash it though if you have custom recovery. They have rooted stock FROYO, try it out maybe you'll like. I would never go back to 2.1 that's insane.

I have a bit of a problem here. Today I was at work and I notice that my Gmail app was unusable (it forced close on opening).
So, I restarted the phone and now all the apps I had installed on the phone are not showing in application list as well as gapps that are missing.
But the funny thing is that they are all there if I go in :
Setting>Application>Manage Applications
Everything is there, even google apps and I can uninstall them (I've tried with lookout and it uninstall perfectly). Once uninstall I can't install anything even if I have the apk file on my sdcard.
What can I do appart from hard reset? I have bell SGS i9000M UGJH2 stock, rooted and lag fixed wit OCLF. Arround 150 apps were installed.
I don't have any recent backup on Titanium and I will lose a lot of app data. It doesn't matter for sms as I had them backed up automaticaly on gmail before all my apps stopped working.
I've already tried wipping the cache partition and it didn't solve the problem.
Do you think I can flash back my firmware without partitionning and keep my data this way?
Could it be dangerous to flash gapps from Cyanogen wiki to see if once the market is back I have my installed apps showing again?
Update : I've tried to flash google apps from recovery and it seems to works at first as it showed up as "Installing package - Installing google applications" but the phone restarted before the bar reached the end and nothing changed. My phone is still showing only 21 apps (stock apps). Everything installed by me is not showing and google apps (Market, gmail, gtalk, maps, navigation etc..) are also gone.
It looks like something is preventing me from using my apps and installing anything.
Update : I just turn off the phone after I remove some apps to free space and see if it chages something but when I turn back on the phone it hangs on the big S logo.
Then I had the worst feeling ever. I tought my SDCARD was dead cause it's one of the symptoms of a dead i9000m sdcard.
So I just start in recovery and did a factory reset followed by a flash with odin of stock UGJH2 firmware and I tick repartition. Everything went fine and the phone is now factory fresh except that my internal sdcard is full of stuff.
Now my question is : Do you think this proble might be related to OCLF??? I applied the fix when I had some apps already installed (arround 100). I still had 500Mb free at this point. Had 380 when my apps stopped showing up.
The same thing happened to me shortly after I installed voodoo lag fix. Ended up having to get the phone replaced. Eventually my phone stopped booting up all together.. I would avoid lagfixes..
My phone is working fine for now. I applied voodoo lagfix right after the flash with odin and restored all my apps from a 3 weeks old back up, it's been good for today. The phone is not as fast as it was with OCLF but still better than stock. Hope it's not related to lag fix. Only future will tell. Waiting for other to comments on that!

First of all, great work on fixing a crippled Sprint product!
I love what cm does, but 1 problem I can't seem to get around is this: Ever since I first rooted my Hero in early November with CM 6.0 and after upgrading it to 6.1 when it came out, my phone will not vibrate. It doesn't matter what settings I try, there is no vibration. I seem to remember that when I first rooted, the vibrate feature disappeared. Even trying to use the screen that allows you to pick what vibration pattern you want, doesn't work. Is there a fix for this?
Thanks again for all you do!
Mark
That's strange because vibrate works just fine on mine.
I'm sure you already tried this, but did you check under the sound settings to make sure Vibrate is enabled? How about haptic feedback under Language & Keyboard settings?
Also, when you upgraded from CM6.0, did you install with or without a complete user data/cache wipe?
My suggestion would be to backup your user data with Titanium backup if necessary, backup your current ROM with Nandroid and re-install CM6.1 from scratch, this time clearing user data/cache. Restore your user data that doesn't automatically restore from your Titanium backups.
Hope this works for you.
theres a program called sound manager in the market. i get that, enable vibrate within that app. test it, reboot, test it and the vibrate will work. then i uninstall that app and good to go.
thats how i fixed the vibrate issue
I would try downloading it again, checking the md5 and reflashing it.
Rooted (stock) VZW moto x
A couple days ago my phone app started force closing immediately upon opening it every time. It doesn't work at all now. I am rooted, but I rooted weeks ago and this just started yesterday or the day before. I haven't messed with anything. The only thing that I have done is download apps from the play store... None of which 'should' mess with the phone app.
I have since downloaded an alternative dialer app which works, but I'd rather use stock. I tried rebooting, tried clearing the app's cache and data (in system settings - apps) and no luck.
Any help would be great. Either finding/fixing the issue or a way to reinstall the stock phone app? I am rooted and I believe write protection is off, which I had to do to install busybox. Thanks!

What version are you on. 4.2.2 or 4.4
There is a couple things i would try i have had to do it with other phone specially my old S3
1. restore from a backup when i the dialer was not FC
2. try reinstalling the dialer from the APK located here device/system/prvi-app/dialer.apk
3. pull the dialer.apk out of the correct stock ROM or recover img and replace the one located in the above folder and install it.
but to be honest option one is normally the best way to go and the fastest.
Thanks. I'm on 4.4. I'm going to try option 2 when i get home. I'm not exactly sure how to restore a backup on this phone yet being that i dont really have a recovery.
Edit: option 2 installed ok, but still force closes
let me get you the .apk from the restore img give me about a hour to download it and get you a link
also do you know how to use titanium backup if so i would install it and back up all user apps and data because you might have to do a factory reset. but if you backup with TB you and restore everything right back to ware you was
I have been running CM 14.1 20161219 since that date, with few problems. Sometimes I enable an cm automobile system profile in the settings menu so I can easily get on the phone while driving or otherwise.
Yesterday I turned it on and forgot about it, and today I rebooted my phone while charging and I get a black screen with the <| back button on the bottom and my notifications and quick settings visible on the top. I can receive calls and toggle wifi and what not, but I cant reach the settings menu to switch back to the default profile (or the launcher for that matter). I have rebooted to recovery fine, but I dont want to reflash unless its necessary as it messes up my Authenticator settings on Steam, google, etc. Usually I turn those off before flashing new ROMs.
Hopefully there is a simple fix I can do from fastboot or recovery...
Thank you for any help.

Yeah. I installed it before it was dead, and when I installed it it was working fine for a month or more ... until today. I was waiting for a couple revisions before I installed Lineage OS.
Regardless, when upgrading ROMS there are several steps I take beforehand that would benefit from fixing this bug first.
* backing up apps via TB
* Turning off steam multifactor in steam app
* Turning off google authenticator 2 factor temporarily
* backing up some of my data, just in case
* Trying to upgrade to Lineage OS using experimental dirty flash method
* Upgrading TWRP via the app before flashing my next ROM
* others
I ended up trying to flash LIneage OS in the 2 part methon of i.) flash experimental ROM, ii.) flash Lineago OS nightly. That didnt fix the problem with the Launcher and settings not working. And I was unable to do any of my pre-upgrade checklist.
I think there was something was messing with the Pixel Launcher, and I ended up whiping and reflashing the normal way. This was a real problem because I lost the ability to use my phone 3 hours before requiring Navigation to meet family across town. Not to mention having phone call access. I hope I don't randomly have this same problem with LIneage OS now since I was unable to solve... I will stop using that system profiles feature for the time being.
