[Q] Reverting to Stock ROM - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI guys, I've just sold my Note (I know, I know) and want to revert to stock ICS before sending. I've got CWM with a custom ROM. I think I read somewhere that all I need to do to revert to Stock is flash a Stock ROM?
Is that it? Will this wipe CWM etc? Anyone have a guide I could follow please?

Download the stock rom from samfirmware.com and install it using pc odin.
I recommend installing a GB rom and the reboot into recovery and do a factory reset.
connect to pc and format usb storage.

Cheers mate, any reason to go GB rather than ICS? If I revert back to GB could I then update to ICS via OTA?

reason is its safe to do a factory reset in GB and not safe in ICS. to do a factory reset in ICS, u will need to install a diff kernel
yes kies or OTA will be applicable.

Awesome, I am running Hydracore, which I thought was ok, doesn't matter better to be safe then sorry. Thanks again

Hydracore is a safe kernel and you can flash a stock rom
But it think its not required to be on a sfe kernel when you are about to flash a stock rom through pc odin

[Q]Problem encountered while reverting from ics to GB

I've searched the entire forum and Google as well, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24656901 should provide the best explanation on how to revert back to GB.
However, in that thread, he mentioned that I need to flash abyss 4.0+ kernel first before restoring the backup. How about if the backup file is corrupted for some reason, are there any alternatives to revert back?
Also, if my phone was bricked one day(assume I can enter downloadmode but not CWM, which means I can't flash the abyss 4.0+ kernel), can I use the USB jig and flash the ics leak according to Dr Ketan's guide?

Yes. Download any custom GB rom to your PC (Darky, Cassie's XL, whatever), pull your SD card out, slot it in SD Card reader, transfer the GB rom from your PC to your SD card. Put the card back into your phone.
Boot into CWMR, flash Abyss, reload Recovery to get the Redpill one.
Do your wipes (data, cache, dalvik).
Tap 'install zip from SD card', navigate to your GB rom, and flash.
Reboot when the flash is done.
Pour yourself a stiff drink.

I wouldn't recommend that. I'd flash a rootable stock Rom via PC Odin, root it, flash the 1st ICS repack and flash the ICS rom of your choice. It's safer this way.

However in that situation I got a bricked phone with other kernel not Abyss Kernel.
People just emphasize flashing Abyss Kernel b4 reverting to GB, is that really viable to flash stock GB rom via pc odin?

If soft bricked (you can just reach the Download mode, not the Recovery), flashing Abyss is out, because you have no recovery to flash it from.
The only way to get yourself out of the sticky situation without triggering the binary counter and getting the triangle is the PC Odin and stock Rom. That way your binary counter stays at NO (meaning 0).

Bootloops note ICS

I upgraded from rooted GB rom to Rocket rom ICS but my note is going into a bootloop mode. Can i flash LB2 rom using PC odin and then flash LP8 rom using PC odin again.
Would appreciate if someone can guide me as i dont wanna risk bricking my phone.
Thanks
Yes you can do that. And while you are back on gb, do a factory reset. Before flashing ICS.

Will i loose my root after installing GB stock rom ?
Yes thats what I mean and yes you will loose root if you flash stock roms.

I would flash a gb rom. Get it working, factory reset. Then flash ICS. Just to avoid any trouble

Well the odin way, is the safest way in my opinion.
Flash a safe kernell and then Flash the gb rom you wish via odin.
Search in the forums and you will find the exact safe steps

thank for your anwser
I wondering why flash a safe kernel before?
I can just flash the full stock rom via odin on a dangerous kernel right?
Straigh way flash any stock GB ROM with PC Odin.
Very likely you will face force closes after flashing GB stock ROM, nothing to worry, just reboot to recovery and wipe cache and data, everything will be fine. Remember wiping should only perform on GB ROM.
So thank you very much everybody
so i flash the rom via odin , so the flash pass, aftert i get a bootloop on samsung logo so i shutdown my device, and
press home and power button and volume up and select wipe data and wipe cache
reboot the device and everythings is fine

As long as you flash with odin, no need to flash safe kernel as odin does not uses recovery, but it is not advised to flash stock ICS as you may have to wipe immediately after flash. And wiping on stock ics can brick your Note.

Most of the times we may have to wipe in stock recovery after flashing stock rom using odin (specially if flashing over custom roms or flashing GB over ICS), and we all know that Samsung ICS kernels are not safe to wipe, it may brick your device if you have to wipe in ICS stock recovery.
Best is to first flash GB, wipe and then flash ICS using odin.

Rocketrom comes with philz kernel and it is brickfree..So you can directly flash gb rom using pc odin
Hydracore doesnt work with leaked jb roms
when using pc odin, it doesn't require you to be on a safe kernel
its possible to returen to ics stock from jb? i looked and the guide says that you have to be on gb and from there flash ics
pc odin can flash stock rom on the phone no matter what rom you are on.
are you sure?the guide says the you have to be on gb first,so just to put the tar file in pda?
?

You can flash ics directly from jb..but i guess you will get a bootloop
You can flash a safe kernel, then do a factory reset and it boots up successfully
iam confused ...so now flash the hydra 7 do wipe data and flash from odin?

Use PC Odin to flash stock ICS directly. No intermediate steps, like flashing a custom kernel or going back to GB, are needed.

I guess he gets a bootloop after he flash ics..and he need to flash a safe kernel to do wipes..isnt it??
May be, but that's a step after flashing ics. I don't know why op wants to flash hydracore before using pc odin
too many ideas.i afraid to try it.
there are not many ideas.
All comes to one. Don't confuse yourself
put phone in download mode
connect to pc
open odin and select the rom file in the pda tab
flash
once done, don't do any wipes till you install a safe kernel

If you have a backup, you can flash Philz kernel if you are not already running and restore it. Flashing stock firmware with Odin PC is fine also, but you will lose data.

Stock ICS kernel is not safe, JB devs are not sure yet. So, I would recommend to flash Philz kernel in stock recovery, then reboot recovery, do a full wipe and there you can re flash stock firmware.
That is the safest way to do it. DO NOT WIPE in stock kernel.

ODIN is always safe, but stock ICS kernel it is not....take that into consideration before wiping data.
