You can do it going to seetings -> storage -> format SD card.
Or
going to recovery: mounts and storage -> format /sdcard.

If you format sd card you will lost all pictures, data (like savegames), musics, etc, but the phone will work fine, of course.
I don't see a problem there. You can take out the SD card and the phone will work good without it or you can connect the card to a computer and backup and format it.

So I switched sd cards to a new 8gb class 6 one. I'm running mlign 3.2B right now. So what I did is I took all the stuff off the root of the card and put it in a folder on my computer. Then I opened up recovery with the new card in and put everything back on. When I rebooted it just loops at the htc screen with the android.

You never transfered all the files in the ext2/3 partition over. I would make a full BART backup including the ext partition on the old sdcard, copy the files from the backup to the new sdcard, and just restore it from there to get a full copy of your ext partition back.

well instead, I just did the following: in recovery I partitioned at 128, 512, and rest, then I did ext to 3 then 4. Then I rebooted to recovery, put the rom on, wiped data, dalvik, and ext, then I flashed the rom. Then it says htc provider has stopped working, along with google maps.
Did you format the ol card?
You could do the EXT+Nandroid option in Amon_RA.

well I did this just with it straight out of the box so no. Should I format it, and how?
every time I unmount the card it's fine, but once I remove the card the phone restarts.

Oh yeah lol, sorry about that meant to say sd card.
well now what happens is I partition, then when I try to upgrade ext it gives me an error telling me to do it using the console.
I have been experiencing a weird issue. For some reason, when I save something to what I want to be the sd card, my phone is mistaking my internal storage for an sd card. I first noticed that with titanium backup. I backed up everything in preparation to flash my first rom. But when I looked for the backup file on my sd card it was not there. When I went to flash similar problem. I noticed while in safestrap (ver 3.05) there was a folder "sdcard" but my rom was nowhere to be found. It was in "sdcard-ext". This seems to be persistent, because i had wiped cache and delvik, then factory reset, things still aren't saving to the sd, but to the internal storage.
Anyone experience something like this? I'm on .906 running minimoto if it helps.
My only thought is this is my second sd card, i used to have a 1gb my roommate found, but obviously that doesnt cut it, so i bought and now use a 32gb.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Sdcard-ext it your micro sdcard
SDCard is the internal memory
That's how it's supposed to be
Your data(internal memory) is in a separate partition at /data

So just today I got my phone working with CM 9 and everything works but the phone wont accept my SD card data.
If I go to the gallery it says I need a SD card, so it didn't recognize it but if I go to the file manager I can open my SD card and see all my files it I still can't access them. For example a song I had on the SD card I can see it but it won't let me listen to it.
I'm sure that the SD card isn't broken or anything it works fine on other phones and it did work on this phone until I installed CM 9.
Does anyone know of a solution?

There's two ways to do it first I suggest you back up the files to your PC then place you sdcard back in your phone go to storage and format the external card that way or once you've backed up the sdcard whilst it is still connected to our PC right click on our sdcard and format should list of options

It may help... Just try once.. nothing can happen to you device..
I was running rooted stock ICS for Turkey and I installed JB for Germany after it released. When Turkey update for JB released, I moved on it and tried to restore my settings and apps. However when I tried to restore, while Titanium Backup in progress I got the error memory full and couldn't achieve the restore process. I erased backups more than one and tried to do wipes but no solution. I made a clean install again and there were about 1GB space but when I rooted and installed Titanium Backup again, the space decreased to 400MB. I guessed there was a problem about TB and now I decided to run a complete new install.
So my question is how to format SD Card completely? There are a lot of folders about apps and apps that I removed etc. I want them gone and I want my phone as it is on the first day. How can I do that progress? I tried factory reset but it didn't involve SD Card. Everything remains same. How can I erase all the things on SD Card?

If you are on safe kernel then yes you can format your internal sd card. Just go to SETTINGS>STORAGE>FORMAT SDCARD(INTERNAL STORAGE)

I tried taking a picture yesterday, as it was taking my phone crashed and rebooted. Usually I don't find this to be a big deal, but when it rebooted the phone came up with a notification that "Blank SD card: SD card is blank or has unsupported filesystem." When I click on that it says "Format SD card? All data on your card (under path '/storage/sdcard0') will be erased. This action can't be reversed!"
Although I believe sdcard0 is internal memory, I backed up my sd card just in case by plugging the micro sd card (32 gb patriot class 10, about 22 months old) into my computer and it read just fine, so I copied all the data off of it, formatted the sd card, copied all the data back on, and turned on my phone. I still get the same error and can run ES File Explorer and it shows all my data on the sd card in /storage/sdcard1 (although opening up the Gallery app shows "No external storage available" but opening up pics from ES File Explorer still shows them behind the message). Just to confirm, sdcard0 is the internal memory right? If I format sdcard0 will that format my entire rom? Am I better off wiping and reflashing? I don't think I have anything important on the internal memory.
I'm running cm-10.1-20130806 (waiting to upgrade to 4.3 when Bluetooth is working).

Wiping internal memory worked fine, thanks again for the help. I thought I would have more free time to try out your pac rom, hopefully I can get around to flashing this weekend.

Dunno what to tell ya. It worked for me the entire time while on vacation. Make sure to click bluetooth and go into the deeper settings and turn it on in there.
