Not sure if this deserves to be here but I have rang a few different google people and they have confirmed the unlocked version does support 42mbps (DC-HSPA) if your carrier has it . Thought I'd let people know.

what the .... you're right. I could have sworn the Play Store said "HSPA+ 21" in the tech specs earlier today, but now it says "HSPA+ 42". Maybe I'm just going nuts. Not the first time

Very true but remember in order to get the T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling app to work it would need a different radio/kernel so updates wouldn’t get pushed out as fast as on other devices …
Unless T-Mobile its not planning on supporting it…

OK, guys, stop calling it "unlocked version". There is no "locked" version. The version of the phone sold by T-Mobile is literally the exact same version that is sold on the Google Play store, no distinction whatsoever. There will be no custom modem or wifi calling apps on their version.

Why? It is unlocked. It is a very important distinction considering it is a pentaband phone. There have been locked GSM Nexus devices in the past btw.
Canadian Carriers
Can we expect HSPA+42 on Rogers in Canada or will we only get 21. I know Telus and Bell can both do HSPA+42. If not, I may have to switch to Telus or Bell...
For those in Canada, as far as I know Bell, Telus and Sasktel have some 42 mbps DC-HSPA coverage while Rogers, Wind and Mobilicity only have 21 mbps.
Here is Bell's coverage map. The light blue areas have 21 mbps while the darker areas have 42 mbps. Telus' coverage map should be indentical since they share the network.

No. CDMA=no SIM. and if it is a CDMA world phone I doubt people will be able to hack the SIM slot and unlock it. And even if they did it is not equiped with a T-mo US 3G radio.

Yep, CDMA RIP (include the USA as well)! Such a waste of "space"
Yeah, with LTE (4G), the whole world should be following a unified standard hopefully on not more than two frequencies.
Oh, I hope they use more than two frequencies otherwise there will be too much interference
Very interested in the Motorola Droid.
Questions about Android...
Can you get real time push hotmail?
Is there a wifi router app?
Is there a logmein app?
Is there an orb app (or able to stream from orb site)?
Thanks in advance...

I doubt you'll have an interference problem, being that the rest of the world has the same standard it's only the states now that don't use one standard (we have to always be different). I'm on the bandwagon with CDMA being phased out, even if it is better tech (I don't agree with that statement I'm just saying....) with the rest of the world on GSM it's hard to come out with a good phone that will support either or both.

I have no idea at all sorry.
Try googleing for Android forums. I'm sure they are out there.
I too am slightly concerned about that. We'll need to get to work on rooting the thing as soon as possible. Has anyone started digging into the thing who has a review unit?
We certainly need to find a central location to collaborate.
Hello, I just received my unlocked HTC one dev. edition from the manufacturers website, and I was wondering which carrier would be better suited for the phone. I was reading that the dev. edition isn't well supported for T-mobile, unless the branded version was bought. Then I read that for an att plan, I would need to go to the corporate store in order to maybe get a plan if they allow me to. I would just like to have optimal speeds, with this optimal device. Any suggestions on what I should do?
ps. I don't know if this was addressed earlier but I tried looking around
My suggestion would be to try T-Mobile first. See how it works out for you at home and at your job, or other places where it might be important to you to have good reception. Check the coverage maps on the respective carrier websites. If it doesn't work out then see if you can try out AT&T. If you are friendly and you let the reps know your intentions maybe they will work with you. T-Mobile is cheaper than AT&T last time I checked so that's definitely a plus.

Thanks for the reply. Before I head out to T-mobile, I heard that the dev. edition doesn't support HSPA+ nor 1700Mhz for LTE speed. So if I do get a plan, I wonder if I'll end up with EDGE. Is that possible?

According to the article below it should support at least HSPA+ when using T-Mobile. Give the article a read.

Knowing that AT&T locks their bootloaders (bastards), I'd like to get a version with an unlocked bootloader that I can mod, swap ROMs, etc.
I've found lots of 32gb versions, but I can't find many 64gb versions out there except those that are ~$1200 and I just can't spend that.
Wondering how others are solving this and getting their hands on one that's AT&T LTE friendly...
Thanks!
edit: also, if you knew a model #, that would be helpful as I'm a bit confused on all the variations.

T-Mobile (N920T) is probably the best, simplest choice. you can sign up for new service, purchase at full price, root it, get it sim unlocked using a root method (search xda) or hassle with T-Mobile and then cancel once you have it SIM unlocked. N920I also works but it's an international model. i'm using the N920T and the dual-sim N9208 on att and both work flawlessly. search-xda is your friend, you'll find all the answers you're looking for. good luck

I bought an N920T for use on at&t. here is a lengthy discussion about the potential drawbacks to the missing bands when using a tmo on att. TL/DR; on that one is that you might not get service in the boonies using a tmo on att; i haven't ever had a problem with my tmo note 4 in over a year on att.
here is a guy that can provide free SIM unlock (he's fixing to do mine in about 2 hours. many have reported success with him.) in fact i bought a tmo phone under the premise he'd be able to help me, as TMO will make a big fuss about helping you.

thanks for quoting me; i had lost this thread, and there are updates:
there was nothing wrong with the process @stifilz used to unlock the phone. the problem was that my IMEI wasn't recognized by AT&T, so they wouldn't send me LTE service. but i got that straight.
it appears i use primarily bands 4 and 5 here.
ooo so band 17.. you are speaking about an AT&T phone huh?? that's not as good, as there is some debate as to whether or not a TMOBILE phone will receive at&t's band 17 correctly. i think i already linked that thread previously, so you might re-read that to see if it'll provide an issue for you.
cheapest, tho not the easiest, way for you to figure out if you'll have problems is to find a person using an unlocked TMO phone and put your sim card in it, and then see if it gets LTE (particularly band 17)

Good to hear. AT&T made that same mistake with my OPO. Always a chuckle when you know more than the service reps.
Yeah, I've been checking LTE discovery anytime I go anywhere different in DC and it's always band 17 which the TMO version doesn't have. There is band 4 here, but it's considerably less frequent and a much weaker signal. So, that likely means that I'll get spotty LTE service most of the time and have extra battery suck as it works to switch between LTE and 3G. Not sure it's worth it since I'm pretty constantly on the move...

I think that's gotta be a mistake. According to TMO's site, it doesn't have LTE 17 and they're standard frequencies.
But, the question for me will be how strong LTE4 is. It might be enough. I'm trying to figure out how to disable 17 on my OPO for testing...
