hi all tomorrow im getting mi razr i, i have a few questions do, should i unlock bl or wait till jb update appears, then unlock bl ?or ther's not an issue on having bl unloked then update to jb? i mean in your oppinion because ther's nothing official yet.... i come from an atrix and i really dont give any more credit to what motofail says , another thing is related to battery endurance with a underclock lets say about 1.2 ghz, should it be as smooth as 2 ghz? ive seen phones that runs great at 1 ghz, the last thing is related to internal storage, is it 5 gb u-can-actually-see-at-your-pc user available?

Unlocking by itself and rooting by itself won't affect updates.

i got a early upgrade today and i am wondering what development has gone on. i know it has recovery mode and i know that you can put roms on it. but does it have a asop rom? also is the rom fully unlocked or is it like how the droid x used to be? thanks any help will be great because i dont know if i want to wait for the galaxy prime(nexus prime/droidprime) or get this already.
I've deodex my phone so far.

The bootloader is locked like the DX there are people working on finding the unlock procedure for it but there will be no ETA on that (if ever) until it happens. Honestly if you are concerned with Modding, considering the amount of attention this phone has already received from the Dev community it should be a heavily developed phone. It has been out for just over 10days and already rooted, strapped, and CM7 under development. However remember the phone does have a locked bootloader so that means no kernel flashing, which sucks but, considering I don't feel the need to overclock just yet and my battery life if wonderful, I just don't see the need for a new kernel yet.

I'm using fido optimus 2x. I don't intend to upgrade to gb. Whats the point ? It still wont let you use your front camera to video chat. A feature that I already have using miui.

I just want a more stable and less problematic os. My gf's Xperia arc with a single core runs better... lol
Many folks have different setups they have reached via trial and error. As per my findings most stable setup is Miui + Owains Tweak Pack.
Miui on its own is a little slow and laggy, with owains tweak pack it gets upto speed and then adds cool things like voodoo sound and google talk video. Currently I am on miui 1.10.28 and I will be upgrading to new miui with new tweak pack next week.
The only issue you will face is the phone will say that you have to turn on data roaming. It shows up as rogers wireless and I have been running it like this for a month and have not incurred any extra charges. So its fine as far as I'm concerned.
This same issue is also in Cyanogenmod (miui uses cyanogenmod code). Cm7 is very good but takes A LOT of tinkering to get to a decent state and also I got horrible battery life with it. Thats why I moved to miui and then discovered this wonderful forum with people like fajarep and higsy and owain94 who are doing custom things for my phone.
Fido has release the GB update through the LG Support Tool.
The only bad thing for me was that the Support Tool can't detect my firmware version after the update. Oh well, I'll deal with that if the roll out the ICS update for us

Not fair. The LG Update tool is not working for me it says I'm at the latest firmware. Im on 2.2.2. I'm on Fido aswell and I can't get it to work. I'm calling Fido on monday I'm so upset. The 2.2.2 is so buggy and has screen unresponsiveness issues. (many froyo roms do)
Same thing here
I am having the same issue. What's the deal here. It says phone is already latest , no need to update. But my firmware is still listed as being 2.2.2 Althugh few months ago when I checked using the tool it said there was an update required and it actually did flash my phone . Afterwards I noticed my " version #" had changed to v21b . However to my dismay, the firmware version remained unchanged at 2.2.2. What's up . Is this what people mean when I read references to " fake gingerbread" In relation to Optimus x2 updates??
Sigh, the crazy part is I recently heard a statement from LG saying that the x2 was one of the phones that has been slated for an ICS 4.0 update! huh? One empty promise at a time please ,LG
Thanks to anyone who can clarify .

Stop using lg tools and come with us into the dark side....
It's been months since I've used those toils for the last time, and I'm running Ics for now, after many GB versions...

I was in the same sinking boat as you are now. I have the O2X while i ot my gf the Xperia. I haven't rooted her phone, but mine was done a day or two after i got it.
I tried using the LG tool to update, and gave up. Way too so for my taste.
So i turned to CM7 and followed it religiously, till i turned pagan to my new lord(till ICS comes out officially), Temasek.
Im currently running Temasek's nightly Kang, 66 i believe. I had tried CM7's #218 nightly, but wasn't crazy about it. Didn't seem as stream lined as Tamasek's.
Just tried the ported version of ICS from Ricardo Cerqueira, very nice introduction. But i myself had too many issues with it, maybe should have done a full wipe, swipe and dump before installing it.
But all in all L1qu1d, don't be scared to root.... you won't regret it.
And good old nightly or kang can work wonders...
I think the only thing that concerns people about rooting is that they may not be able to get the official ICS update WHEN they finally decide to release it. Obviously you can revert/deroot etc and then you should be fine.. but still... lol. nerves.
LOL
i even forgot that there is such thing as lg tool.
Am planning to buy a second hand, unmodded OB thats one month old for just INR 10k from my friend.
I presently own a Moto defy. As moto fones come with a locked bootloader therefore they are IMPOSSIBLE to be bricked. We use RSDLite (flashing tool) to flash the stock roms in .sbf format.(system binary files)
So if my OB gets into bootloop or stuck at some logo, will i be able to revert back to stock ROM and start the modding process afresh ?
Are there any cases where the OB has been completely bricked ?
One more thing, as you guys have unlocked bootloaders, so have you ported WP7 or Ubuntu into your OBs ?
Also what is the upper limit of safe overclocking for this fone ? Is 1.4 Ghz stable ?
Sent from my MotoDefy using XDA App
Have you read this and this? If the problem comes from Operating System, it can be recover. But if it has a kind of hardware problem, then it can't be recover...
And AFAIK, OB can only handle 1.2GHz overclock, above that I don't know..

Thanks for the reply mate.
What kind of hardware problem may arise during the modding process?
Does the phone battery charge when stuck at lg logo or in bootloops ?

well...none of us have hard bricked our black. there is a .kdz flashing method if you brick it.
byw, i will NOT suggest you getting a black. the DEFY is one of the best cells when it comes to custom ROMs. and of the custom ROMs...we have 2,umm..uhh...err...no 3 custom ROMs. and that's all.
and of OC...1.2 is stable and not beyond that in most cases.
hope i helped
Thanks, u sure helped a lot.
And the fone has just 3 custom roms ? :wall:
I was interested cuz i was getting it at half price.
Anyways i got bored of my defy already ... so was planning to lay my hands on a new victim
I wud rather start saving for HD2 now... that is one hell of awesomeness
Thanks to all who posted here.

Well as far I'm flashing my phone for development, not just once, I don't know how many times, at least almost hundreds times I'm not getting any hardware failure. But considering overclocking, then it's possible to burning the CPU (or another component) if it's not handle well, might comes from heating devices.. Another hardware failure perhaps comes from the factory, bad product or something..

Well I don't know about that (battery charge), but for sure it's going to heating when it stuck at bootloop..

I'll be getting my O4X by tomorrow or Saturday. (rooting within 2-3 hours upon getting it)
I read about how to root, seems simple, one click tool kind of rooting system is there.
Is it compulsory to update to 4.1.2 first because it is ICS out of the box?
And do recommend me a starter ROM to try on, I'm thinking the official CM10.1(sounds tempting).
And any thing I should do to preserve battery more? Like switch to a certain suggested kernel.
No need to close 2 core because I'll underclock it to 1.0 or so by default.
And I heard something about factory reseting after root, but that applies to stock rom only right? To fix battery drain issue.
Do help me out. Thanks!
It is compulsory to update mainly because If you root and then update you loose root..
Iodak kernel and optimus prime are good with battery life, try any one of those

first update to jelly bean, then root and unlock bootloader, then install rom manager and cwm, then install cm 10.1 latest nightly and the eternity project kerlnel (realy good kernel, fast smooth, good performance and good battery life, and awesome screen colors). then install nova launcher, cause its better than cm´s trebuchet launcher
I'am not from here, but my friend has this SU660 Korean version of O2X running stock ICS, unmodified but she wants a cm10 rom on it
My Questions:
1. what is the difference betweeen new and old bootloder ( aside from the new is pink and the old is white )
2. how to switch bootloader and why we should switch?
3. this is I gonna do to the device, am I good to go?...
1st, unlock and install cwm recovey
2nd, then back up rom
3rd, wipe
4th, install cm10 rom from international version ( which has edited asserts )
5th, install the su660 kernel for cm10, then gapps
is my method correct or I'am missing something...

About the differences, my P990 (CM10.1) in the old bootloader charged the battery very slowly and battery life was really bad. When I switched to the new bootloader it was like Gingerbread times, battery life is good again and charging is normal. I don't know if this happens to SU660 also.

Okay, first of all, sorry OP for hijacking your thread, but I have to ask too a few questions about these bootloaders. I wanted to open a new thread, but thought there should be one concerning my question here.
I'm on the old bl, running CM10.2 by tonyp and was seriously thinking about switching until I thought that there was no need because everything works more or less fine. Until now. You say battery management is better? Then let me ask a few questions.
1. First and foremost, what are the main things to consider switching? What changes and is it better to stay on the old one?
2. I know about the AIO Toolkit, but as far as I know, I can only switch from new to old (or am I mistaken?) so, I wanted to ask what is the fastest way to switch? Should I NVFlash or LGTool flash the official ICS in order to change the bl?
Once again, I'm sorry OP.

Then let me ask a few questions.- I dont think so....I would say that it is shown as the same.
1. First and foremost, what are the main things to consider switching? What changes and is it better to stay on the old one? Dont think change is necessary as I dont see a major dofference....so if you are happy with your present one....stay
2. I know about the AIO Toolkit, but as far as I know, I can only switch from new to old (or am I mistaken?) so, I wanted to ask what is the fastest way to switch? Should I NVFlash or LGTool flash the official ICS in order to change the bl? You are mistaken my friend....AIOT offers conversion both from old bootloader to new and vice versa. fastest can be NVFlash but the easiest is AIOT (AFAIK). The Official ICS is on new bootloader but then you will be in stock and then you have to root it, use the unlocked bootloader....so more pain compared to AIOT....so my vote is for AIOT
Hope this helps you
