This is probably the most praising device review I have seen on the web so far.

I have about three pounds of dust accumulating on my Galaxy S3 in the gap between the casing and the glass. I see the LG Nexus 4 also has a similar gap. As do most devices, really, but this Sammy is sure a dust magnet. Here's hoping the LG will NOT be like the Samsung in that regard.

I read somewhere that the nexus 4 uses the Zero-Gap Technology, which practically leaves no space between the screen and the touch panel..?

I think you're talking about something a bit different. I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, that matt310 was referencing the gap between the front glass and the side edging on the outside of the device.

That's how I read it, too; frankly, I think it would be pretty hard from any of the N4 release photos that would reveal distance between the display & glass.

First use of Zerogap Touch for Real Touch
It’s nice to be part of a conglomerate. Working with its vertically-integrated sister companies, LG incorporated the industry-first Zerogap Touch technology into the Optimus G.
As the first smartphone with the Zerogap Touch, the Optimus G boasts a cover glass that’s different from typical touch screen cover glass. While the others are typically topped with ITO film or a glass sensor, the Zerogap Touch has an ITO sensor film printed directly on the glass, removing the air gap that is normally trapped between the two elements.

Wait, you exhibit poor reading skills yourself, then chide another for the same? It wasn't nonsense at all, clearly on-topic. Nobody can stay abreast of the latest at this neck-breaking pace.
That said, this phone will have at least one less area in which dust can congregate. Yay!
Hmmm I just don't understand the glass back design...? Everybody have laughed at the iPhone 4 and 4s design which broke almost just by looking at it - or at least when dropped from little height. And now Google - as I see it - makes the same mistake!

The difference is the plastic has a lip over the glass so if you were to drop the phone on it's corner The glass itself wouldn't make contact. However I could be misinformed.
It'll be interesting to see drop tests of this device, though. I do love drop tests.
EDIT: I must agree with you, though. The glass back wasn't very wise... :/
That's a good deal bro. imo you should return your GNII and buy the N4 first. Then wait the the 3G/4G version of N10. It will be better thought.
Glass back doesn't bother me. I just won't drop the phone

I bricked my phone and it seems that the fix is replacing the motherboard. Since it seems I may be going down that road I was just wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my regular S3 to an LTE S3? What parts would I need and where to source them?
(I know this sounds silly but Im a big car guy and whenever you blow your stock engine its an excuse to get a bigger one hehe, Im just thinking if this is the same with the S3 having a "better" version)
Flame away if this isnt possible
AW: [Q] Uprade regular S3 to LTE S3?
I think it is possible. But when you change to i9305 you will loose the possibilities of using different and official CM roms or other AOSP roms. Most of the custom firmwares available for i9305 are Samsung based.

The OP meant exchanging the motherboard with one from the i9305.
It's possible provided the setup is the same and the screw locations are the same.

You're not wrong in your assumption. But I think the biggest problem would be fitting it in the case, in order to make phones as thin as the Galaxy S3, enormous efforts go into making sure the motherboard *just* fits in, and assuming the non-LTE models motherboard is exactly the same shape as the LTE model is a little silly in my opinion. In all honesty I think OP would be better off just not buying a new motherboard and instead just buying a new phone. The Nexus 4 comes to mind... yeah you heard me! Flame away!

This is exactly what I meant, you won't be able to fit i9305 motherboard in i9300 casing, simple as that. There's only one cheaper solution, buy i9305 with broken screen and swap it.

If you're thinking of literally removing a faulty SoC off your I9300 board and replacing it with the I9305 equivalent:
No. Don't do it. That's the worst idea I've heard in years.
If you're thinking of using an I9305 motherboard as a replacement for your I9300 board:
I started writing a very long post here about why you can't use most of the I9300 internals, but honestly it's neither interesting nor worth the bother to type.
In short, here is a list of things you can use from the I9300:
-Cameras.
-Battery.
-The rear outer plastic case,
-Volume/power switches.
-Proximity sensor.
-Vibration motor.
-Screws, gaskets, etc.
-Assorted minor components which didn't spring to mind.
You can't use the frame, or the antenna. You might be able to re-use the display, screen, and touchscreen controller; but have fun trying to remove the former two from the frame without damaging them or rendering them unusable. Heat guns are out, for a start.
Compared to buying a new I9305, you won't save much money, if any, and it might conceivably cost more to get all these things separately. It would also take you a lot of time, which carries its own cost.
Believe it or not, portable electronic devices bear little resemblance to cars.
Screw assignments and everything else are exactly the same.
I9300

You realize the dimensions are exactly the same, right? Instead of just saying that it won't work why don't you show me proof. Everyone is so quick to jump to conclusions but not one person in this thread said "I tried it and it doesn't work." The pictures tell me it that it is possible. Dude, you're annoying now. I've got 15yrs experience as mobile phones maintainer and I know what I'm saying. It's not about size and screws only ffs!! Motherboard is double sided, Hardware needs drivers and specially designed for each component room in chassis. It will work I think if your replacing the board which has the soc, ram and so forth.
The only think that seperates the two is the main board which contains these parts.
But I think you should try it and if anything u prove it and if not well, buy one and said you did!!!

I don't think you realize how similar the i9300 and i9305 are, lol. They are literally the same except the chips on the motherboard. Oh well. Until someone tries it there is no point in throwing your 15 years of experience into the mix. It's always nice to meet someone who thinks they're better than everyone else and rude. It's just a forum, lighten up and try not to be so mean. Have a nice weekend.

As you would never use an antenna made for one frequency to pick up another frequency. But I guess you already knew that.

Mine drops calls when held in a lot less than the death grip. Sprint signal has always been marginal in my area but with this phone I need to be extra aware of how I hold it. I thought it was supposed to switch to the upper antenna during a call but I'm not sure...

Have you had any reception issues, or are you just looking at some bars?
The phone switches antennas to the top one when the bottom one has poor reception. Yeah, I can make this happen too, but I haven't had a single dropped or difficult call, so I'm not sure what the complaint is.

Try switching to EVRC-B as mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292530
Your dropped calls may go away.
I had this problem in a big way, especially with losing Wi-Fi if I rested my index finger on the top-right corner. Seems to have gone away by putting the phone in a $5 clear TPU cover of eBay. Protects the phone, prevents death grip, doesn't hide the beautiful design....win/win
What is the death grip? Is that when you grab your phone like a retard? Okay I'll make sure not to grab my phone like a retard.

Knowing where the antennae are would do a great deal to avoid this problem. The top right corner is where the wifi radio is. Don't hold the phone there for better wifi reception.
There are two mobile network antennae on the phone. One runs along the bottom of the phone, while the other is from the top middle to top left. Both run all frequencies, and are on-the-fly interchangeable. Try not to cover both locations at the same time, and the phone will adjust to the proper antenna automatically.

Sure... Use Google. Apple can appeal the ruling and the white house has quite a bit of time to intervene, which I no doubt Obama will just as he has in the past. And what the hell does me posting something have to do with this? Lol... I was unaware that I shouldn't do that as I see people posting threads like that all the time... Either way it has nothing to do with the validity of what I said.

Quit arguing over irrelevant things.
Under what circumstances does one hold a phone in a "death grip?" I pretty much rest the phone on my pinky and lightly curve my fingers around the back. It's not safe, but it's what I'm used to. Maybe because my hands are smaller.
Wow, people are certainly defensive here, and don't want to admit their new phone has an issue. This is identical to the iPhone 4 death grip, which didn't always cause you to lose the signal completely, but drop it severely. It's not just the signal bars either, you can see the actual dBm reading is far worse while holding it.
Can you still make calls? Probably, but the majority of us use data these days. Comparing a 4 bar to 1 bar of Sprint 3G service makes a huge difference.
I have a Note 2, and I can tell you that no matter what way you hold it the signal strength doesn't vary by more than a couple dBm.
What are these bars of 3G you speak of? Bars and 3G dont belong in the same sentence unless you are using an iPhone.
Just like everyone else, I'm patiently waiting for the mailman to ring my doorbell. Not only for the cases and screen protectors ive purchased, but most importantly for the Nexus 5 I've ordered!

Does it feel a lot thinner then the N4? My wife has an HTC One and I love the thinness of that device. My N4 feels like a brick next to it. Do you notice much difference when holding the N4 and N5?
Also, how is Kit-Kat. Dies it feel like much of the same? What about screen size? On a 4.7" screen the nav bottons feel like they take up way to much room. On a 5" screen, do you now feel like there is plenty of screen real estate to do what you want to do?
And last for now, how does the screen quality compare to the N4 or any other top of the line phone out now?
Thank for any responses....

And last for now, how does the screen quality compare to the N4 or any other top of the line phone out now?
Thank for any responses....

Doesn't feel any thinner to personally, When I lay the N5 flat next to the N4 is actually pretty level due to the camera hump.
Kit-Kat is smooth and really responsive, the translucent Status and Nav bar is a great touch imo.
The screen real estate is ok for me, especially considering this is about as big as my hand can support with one handed use. I'm sure as soon as custom roms start coming along we will be able to utilise PIE controls again.
In terms of Screen quality it's really sharp but the colours appear to be slightly washed out but once again I'm sure custom kernels will remedy this.
after some time please share battery life impressions.. !!!

That sucks about the size! So no wow factor with the screen. I love the HTC One screen so was hoping the N5 would be just as good or better.

Can you please post some camera samples? Doesn't have to be anything photogenic, I just want to get an idea of quality when it comes to random pictures in non-optimal lighting situations etc. Could be outside a window, your foot, a wall/chair, doesn't matter.

Does the N5 feels bulky in hand? Because it does on the picture.

The soft touch plastic is really nice and doesn't feel cheap at all, It is slightly slippy however.

How does the battery drain look so far? How much screen time on do you have right now -- and how much battery is left?
Can you tell us about the notification LED? Does it work out of the box or do you need to install a 3rd party app?
Thanks!
Has anyone seen any unboxing videos yet? That's my pre-order porn man.

Worked out of the box.
Works fine with lightflow and It's super bright as well!
It's actually better than the LED on the N4
Before all the angry people kick off, this is not just another "problem thread".
Reading through forum I realised that a lot of people won't notice light bleed of they put their phone down when booting as background on KK is grayish. I've seen a few people ask how they check for light bleed. I'm also curious how bad it gets.
Now, before you do it, please keep in mind once it's seen, it can't be unseen, don't blame me for that, I gave you a fair warning and if you didn't read it or ignored it, you suck

Right, download this app, set brightness to max, go into dead pixel tab and scroll horizontally to the black panel. Voila!

Ignore everything but top left corner (2 points) on this pic as this is simply due to the angle. It appears like light bleed, but it's so minor, it's barely visible in reality. Top left corner though is very prominent.
Have fun.

I will give you kudos of posting some actual light bleed instead of just being brighter at certain angles.
I fortunately haven't noticed this on mine, but even if I did -- like you, I wouldn't bother getting it replaced.

Not much hassle, phone call, deposit, wait and use current N5. Mine other one already shipped. Wonder if it's going to be any better....

If the replacement is worse *knocks on wood*, can you just return it to them and keep your current one?

Let's put it this way, if next one is perfect, I'm keeping it. This device only has that one issue. Most of the time I don't see it, but I KNOW it's there. So, if replacement is not perfect, I'm keeping my my first one... Probably...

Fair enough. I just know that, admittedly through the constant rehashing of friends and family, I am too critical of my electronic devices and nothing is perfect. With this in mind, I'm trying to just see the brighter side lol. Good luck to you though man!

I can "live" with things.. Heck, I did with ipad and a few other things.
However display on this device is supposed to be sealed AFAIK. Light bleed like that shows its not, which is an inherited hardware fault. Another reason for this thread is to see if majority of devices is like that and looking for a perfect one is like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Which is obviously not worth the hassle.

Do you think this problem will be solved when they will release the next batch?
Look, @undercover , nothing against you personally, I actually enjoy most of your posts, but if you put any device under a microscope, you'll find issues. If slight light bleed visible only during the boot process while in a pitch-black room is the only issue with my phone, I'd consider myself lucky and move on.
I guess what I'm saying is, every device deserves a little margin of error. Every single unit off of the assembly line can't be perfect, and a unit with only the aforementioned light bleed should probably be considered slightly-less-than-perfect-but-acceptable, in my humble opinion.
No bleed here. Goooood!
I guess I'm lucky. I only have light bleed on lower bottom corner and its not even bad. Just BARELY.
Its very very little.

With all due respect this thread is not to discuss what is acceptable error margin to a person.
To simplify, here's the bleed, how much worse/better/same it gets and on how many devices. Everything is relative so I'm trying to work out just HOW relative it is. That's all. I'm not slagging LG, Google, users, nor am I saying every user should return his unit because of certain amount of light bleed. Most of the threads I started are either help threads (passed on to other people now) or analysis of this or the other.
Tis all

Hi Guys, got a G Flex when they first came out and have been really happy with it so when I needed a new work phone i bought another one.
The new one has REV 1 in the model number and is obviously a later serial number.
Side by side next to each other both set to normal and full brightness the new one is much sharper, everything the screen displays is sharper for some reason, the resolution is exactly the same though obviously so how is this possible?
The original unit is running Jelly Bean based OS and the new one updated to Kit Kat which is also strange as they are both D955 and the old unit always says its OS is up to date when I check?
Has the change in OS sharpened the screen or have they change the screen or processing on later models?
Though someone on here might have some answers.
Cheers

It's on the bar code in the bottom left hand corner of the box, mine is MEZ65407931(1.1)BL The (1.1) was a (1.0) on my original unit so I'm assuming the (1.1) indicates a hardware revision.
Either way I'm pleased as the screen is so much nicer and also has less to no image retention.
it might be placebo effect, but since the kitkat update, I dont have any where near as much of the screen retention problem that was so horrible on 4.2..Maybe there is a new graphics driver in 4.4..

Look i found and this.
Go to dialer and enter 3845#*955#
If you have another model try to change the last three numbers with your model. 3845#*xxx#
after go settings/version info/HW Version.
Mine is Rev1.
don't touch anything else inside there because you can damage your phone

ok thanks for the awnser.
I noticed the same thing when I got my replacement earlier this week. On the new one the screen looks better and has no image ghosting.
I'm on the latest update 6/18. When I'm on tapatalk the black background looks black now as before it was like a light black. Lol. It looks a tad sharper.

I bought my first Flex online but in order to get a deal on my 2nd Flex I had to return my 1st one. I didn't notice any ghosting on the first one but did on my 2nd one. After the 6-18 update I don't notice it but didn't really notice all that much. I'm very happy with the Flex especially the battery life and my Vest case/skin combo but I'm already wanting a new toy/phone.
To shoe her off... I got the Vest case for $20 instead of $60 on Ebay from Korea. The skin was free since I did a review on it.
