[Q] Serious battery problem after upgrading to ICS 4.0.4 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my note is experiencing serious battery problem after upgrading. The phone screen flashes, mobile data turns off itself and restarts itself everytime when the battery reaches around 50%. After restart, the battery level drops to 1%. I have wiped my phone to factory settings etc but the same is still occurring. Is anyone on this forum having the same problem? Does anyone know how to get it fixed? It is causing so much trouble in my daily use. Thanks!

Try a different battery first of all

Tried and unfortunately it's still the same.

Make sure you install a safe kernel, then do full wipes.

So you said you wiped your phone..did you do that on the stock kernel??
And to go back to gb,download a gb rom from here, you can also find the instructions to flash the gb rom there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
If you did all the wipes on stock kernel and your phone is working fine, then you are really lucky and dont do that again,it may brick your phone

Yes you can
You can flash any rom from any rom if you were on a safe kernel
After you flash a gb rom,if you want to go to ics, then do all the wipes and flash 4.0.4
After you flash ics, flash a safe kernel like hydracore, philz or speedmod

Problem solved following the steps you all suggested. Thanks again for your help!

i moved from ios.....but....

Hello forum
last night i got a galaxy note and finally made my move from ios. I could not resist the gorgeous display. I had been using ios since early days with jbreak ofc.
Now my friend installed a custom rom for me Criskelo on ICS 4.0.4 or smthg like that. I freaking hate it its laggy and buggy and i dont know why battery drains like crazy.
I really want to rwmove this os and hard reset and go back to the "out of the box" ICS 4.0.4. Please if uou know of any step by step guide kindly lik it here. I am starting to hate android and mias the stability of my ios so much but i really hope its because this rom is buggy and would like to give android another chance. Thanks a lot team..

Thanks i went through this but didnt understand everything i am completely new ro android so all these terms i am not familiar with.
Download Samsung kies and install it to get drivers
Download Odin(you can find it all around the forum)
Download latest stock ics(android 4.0.4) from www.sammobile.com extract it (its zipped) (firmware section search for n7000)
Put your phone in Odin mode volume down+power+home buttons all together
Once you get the warning press volume up to enter odin mode
Make sure kies its closed and connect your phone to the pc and wait until all the drivers gets installed
After that open odin and do not change any check box
Make sure a yellow block turns on in the top left corner of odin indicating it recognizes your phone
Press PDA and put there the file you downloaded (and extracted) from sammobile.com
Press start and that's it.. Wait until it finishes and you will have a full stock phone
Edit: Hey make sure that you have at least 50% battery before you go through this

The latest android now is ice cream sandwich(4.03&4.04). It has a bug, when you performed a factory reset, recovery data wipe, and nandroid( backup&restore ) it will corrupt your pit files and the result is they called superbrick, the only remedy is to replace your mobile board.
The only safe solution for it now is to flash safe custom kernel( the stock rom has a stock kernel inside) like speedmod k3-12, notecore v12, and goku to be safe from doing factory reset, recovery data wipe, and nandroid ( backup&restore ).

Samsung already stated that if you are completely stock brick won't happen and there's no evidence of it as entrophy could not prove it to Samsung

If your in stock rom there is less percentage of brick, but still your in danger. Before i dont believed just like you that stock rom is susceptible of being brick, then i read some brick there note on stock rom, i change my mind.
I dont spread fear, it is documented here in xda. Better safe than sorry.

It might not sound right, and I understand you are new, but just like learning a new skill, rooting any Android device requires some amount of self-reading. People are helpful here but if you know the basics, you will be in a much better position to decide what's good for you and understand the instructions.
Android inherently treats all processes, including the touch interface, with the same priority. iOS treats the touch interface as a priority process, so Android might feel a tad laggy, but the benefits of using an Android device are way more than using iOS, which you can realize only after using the Note for around a month.
One of my friends switched to the Note from an iPhone, after using her iPhone since the first one, and she is enjoying the Note, as are many.
Criskelo's ROM is actually one of the fastest and most stable on this ROM, so it seems you have some unusual issue that's ruining your experience. Always try watching a video on YouTube of the ROM you are considering to flash, so you know how it looks and feels before flashing.
Welcome to Android!

THanks for the info , yes I was told that Criskelo is the fastest and most stable but I dont know why for some reason it feels very laggy and drains battery like crazy. So I thought that maybe going back to stock ICS would solve the issue.
Lets say I want to keep Criskelo ... can I just go to Back up and Reset and Factory resset the phone ? is it safe? i dont care about the data and apps , ill have everything backed up and i can download again manually. but that might solve my lagging issues?

It's safe from safe kernels lol.. Why don't you flash notecore, then factory reset?.. Notecore its a hell fast kernel and with over clocked version I'm getting 15/16 hours with 4/5 hours screen time.. And yeah notecore its a safe kernel
If you want a nice experience with your note I really encourage you to buy for a couple of bucks mobile odin.. Will make your life hell easier and safer
With mobile odin pro you can change custom kernels like changing your underwear without risking your phone and allowing you to try custom kernels with no yellow triangle.. Notecore and speedmod are the main kernels for tw roms
You can flash notecore and speedmod from cwm too though but for that you need custom recovery and a safe kernel wich criskelo already provided to your phone..
You gotta read a lot hehe

I think I already have notecore ?
http://i46.tinypic.com/6yhdlv.png
ur right i certainly need to read a lot and i thought jailbreaking an iphone was a pain !!!
So is it safe for me to factory reset now ? It looks like I have NOtecore and CriskleROM v11
ALso for some reason Kies wont detect my GN in USB form.
I looked everywhere, tried reinstalling a zillion time, it wont do
Once you learn the basics you are good to go.. Erm yes you have notecore.. Download the latest release from his thread its v12 and yeah you are safe to perform a factory reset on your phone
Forget about kies on cuustom roms.. You only need it for drivers but nothing else... Heck not even being stock you need kies.. And if you want kies to detect your phone you gotta go settings/development /enable usb debugging
Edit: you need enable debugging

Question about rooting!! Newbie

Hey
I have afew questions. Im goin to root today but just need some advice. Im on ics 4.0.4.
Can i flash any rom i want?
each time u flash a rom do u need to flash the correct kernal with that rom or just pick a good kernal?
I want to flash that rocket rom v10 but it looks like it downloads with just a rom, is that normal or do i look for a kernal.
Cheers

This is a custom Kernel which includes root and cwm recovery, ROMs includes their own kernels, so you do not have to flash kernel every time unless you need some kernel of your choice.
The method which you want to follow is the safest method to root but it will raise binary count and yellow triangle, which can be removed using triangle away app by chainfire.
---------- Post added at 09:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:32 PM ----------
Yes you can flash any rom after rooting and flashing cwm recovery but make sure you flash some safe kernel before performing full wipe in recovery, I recommend using Abyss GB kernel for that. You do not have to download any kernel for Rocket ROM, it has its own kernel but make sure to flash Abyss kernel in recovery and then reboot to recovery and perform full wipe before installign Rocket ROM.
Speedmod kernel is good and will work on all TW ICS roms.
Follow the instructions given in Dr ketan's thread in Android developement
This method seems the quickest and its done by cursed4eva on youtube. You dont loose no data or apps. It only works for ics 4.0.
You flash cwm and then superSU and your rooted. Lastly you flash speedmod kernal by mobile odin and thats it.
This method takes afew mins and does not mess up anything. Video tutorial is great but from your replies, when i go onto flashing roms etc i just flash them in recovery as normal right??

Do not use this touch recovery method, this has been reported unsafe, you will end up with a brick in your hand. It is better you use custom kernel to root and flash cwm recovery. Flashing custom kernel does not wipe your data.
Could you please give me the instructions in steps...cause his video has no bad comments, everyone said it has worked fine without loosing no data or anything. But if its unsafe im sooooo confused lol

5. Whats the best rom to use for ics 4.0.4 and are their any htc sense looking roms.

Okay, lets start, i used few short word as was using note to write,
Best app to backup apps is titanium backup but dont think it can restore odexed apps (apps on stock rom) so i prefer root explorer to remove apps from system and save them on sd card.
All newest custom kernels are known to be safe but better you go through kernel threads to be sure, since you are rooted now so can use mobile odin to flash kernel.
Best way to flash custom roms is cwm recovery.
And there is no best custom rom, as all are best, it depends on your choice.
Yellow triangle doesnt affect anythin except claiming warranty.
Hope this helps

That has cleared up so much for me....lol thanx
Can u flash stock roms thoe also?
As for the backups of all data, cant a nanroid backup be done? Titanium says it backs up everything but then their is a appp called mybackup which is for root and says it does the same thing. Damn maybe your way might work but 2morrow i will flash a new rom for sure so all help is welcomed....thank you kindly.
Yes you can flash custom roms but just make sure you are on one of the latest safe ics custom kernel (go through kernel threads), you can download your stock firmware as backup and backup downloaded apps using titanium backup, thats it.
Sent from my GT-N7000
What do i use to back up my stock firmware? Is that the nandroid back up in recovery
Yeh for the apps i might just use titanuim or my back up. Both of em seem to work for that purpose.
Mobile odin seems like a great app but it seems ppl just flash kernals with it but that can be done in recovery right.
Yes you can flash kernel through recovery but custom only, for stock you have to use odin/mobile odin.
Yes you can do nandroid backup but it was not recommended so far as it was not safe on ics kernels but now some custom kernels/cwm recovery are safe for it. But I personally dont use it, i have my stock firmwares on my pc as backup, best for me.

Just backuo with titanium
All user app + syst data
But when restore, just use
Restore all user app+data
(And data of msg n call log in yellow color. If you get it back then only

Downloading stock gingerbread for your region as backup is best in my opinion, you can always flash it through odin when required and can update via kies or OTA, You can download latest ICS as well and keep it on your PC, your wish. not sure about nandroid backup, never used on Note.

[Q] Rocketrom JB Qeustion.

Hi there,
I got a problem with this rom I dont know if it is something eybee1970 write in it so i can't go to another rom but its frustrating.
I want to go to de paraniodandrod rom but everytime i want to flash, after a full wipe of all, it gives me the error status 7.
It has something to do with version check i think.
How can i fix this because i dont want to be stuck on this rom..
I also have the same problem if i want to flash to Rocket MIUI rom not only the PA rom.. same error same problem.. I formated all the disks fixed primissions many times en read the logs after every action...
Hope you can assist me in this.
Thanks
Greetz
Mike,
go back to gb or ics usin pc odin and flash pa from there
Status 7 usually means it's the wrong file.

Yes, even reroot it..
I've done some searching and its either the zip file is corrupt. Or other with this problem have reported that updating cwm to the newest available and then flash fixes this problem.
ie flash another kernel. Bear in mind you'll have to keep a copy of the phills jb to ree flash if it doesn't work cos rocket Rom probably won't load without it.
Hope this helps

Yeah your right their but I'm guessing if you flash another kernel reboot into recovery and flash a new Rom it will work. Other people with this problem with error 7 report changing cwm /kernel and it flashed.
Edit. I wonder if lots of other people will experience this issue now cos i haven't even though about flashing another Rom yet from rocket Rom JB lol

Help! New Galaxy Note user, Custom ROM

Hi, Guys!
Yesterday i bought a SH Galaxy Note, in a minty condition.
Like my S3, i want to put a modern Custom ROM, on it, and install CWM Recovery, but i find hard to gather all the informations. I was searching the internet, and i found that the Galaxy Note, is very vulnerable to soft/hard bricks.
Help me install CWM Recovery Touch and a Jelly Bean based Custom ROM. I don't want to brick my new Note, especially that i don't have a USB JIG.
Please recommend me a good Custom ROM (yes... i know there isn't a "PERFECT" ROM, but i am new to Note, and searching for a ROM, that is like FoxHound 1.4 on Galaxy S III.)
Thanks button to every one that can help me!
Cheers!

Post a screenshot of Settings/About phone here first, you don't want to brick in your first attempt to flash something that is not meant for your device.
Also, do not post questions in General forum in future. Q&A forum was created exclusively for that purpose.
Sorry for that... maybe a moderator could help me? Please?
SH = second hand, it's not new.
Android Version = 4.0.4
Baseband = N7000XXLRB
Build Nr. =IMM76D.XXLRI
Kernel Version = 3.0.15 - N7000XXLRI-CL811902/[email protected]#3

Hi!
Thank you for the help, but i have a problem.
My stock recovery, doesn't have the function to install from phone SD, and for my shame... i don't have any MicroSD cards in my house.
Is there any way to install that thing without bricking the phone?
you can also flash it using pc Odin. but that will give you a yellow triangle and increase the counter. later you can use triangle away app to reset it
Ok... no problem if Triangle Away can reset the counter for N7000. But is there any risk when using Triangle Away?
Why does my recovery have so less functions?
That's android recovery 3e. its not you.
There,s always a risk in everything you do. even flashing roms. Triangle away has been used by loads or people.

Cheers!

Install a safe kernel if your phone is running on ics. ICS is dangerous that can brick your device if you done any small mistake.
For triangle away, just download it and run. Follow the instructions and it will be reset.
I got mine reset
ONLY TRIANGLE IT WHEN YOU ARE ROOTED. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE IF YOU USE IT ON UNROOTED PHONES.
rerunning the application will not brick your phone
Hit the thanks button if it works.

And that safe Kernel is? The one that @Nokiamodeln91 recommended me is safe enough?

Ok, thanks very much guys, but right now i have another problem...
I used my phone until it dropped under 1%, and when i put it on the AC, it stayed about 5-8 sec, and showed a green battery with a yellow triangle near it, and it doesn't show signs of charging.
I didn't started flashing it... it's all stock. All i did, i used it until it auto-shutdown itself. What can i do?
remove the battery and put it back. charge for a while in off condition before you on
Never mind, it started charging after 10 minutes... Maybe it was too hot, or the voltage dropped down too much.
Tomorrow i'll start flashing the Kernel.

Remember to charge til at least 75% before flashing. You would not want your phone to be bricked right ?
Remember to hit the like button if works.
Ok, thanks again.
I flash it with Odin, right now. The CWM Recovery works great, but i can't see any root aplication.
I don't see SuperSU or SuperUser. Where can i download SuperSU for example? This kernel was supposed to root me too, right?
Sorry for double post, but i can't edit the last one...
What ROM should i choose? I mean, I'm still confused... i flashed that Kernel, recommended by @Nokiamodeln91, but what ROM should i choose? I want the phone to be more fluent, OC/UV possibilities, Galaxy Note specific apps included, and AROMA installer in the ROM.
What can you guys recommend me?
Thanks to everyone!

Reroot again with superuser full version
.
If u flash philz kernel as suggested by nokia, u shld be able to get cwmr + supersu installed.
And if u download the flashable zip, u can just flash it through stock recovery. No odin required.

[Q] Reverting to stock state - Telstra AU I9305T

Hello,
New to XDA, and a noob.
I have a newly acquired GT-I9305T from Telstra Australia Very happy with the device, even the stock ROM, just want root to make some tweaks, uninstall some bloat, adblock etc.
I have read through the forums and think I have a good course of action for backup and rooting ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1967124 ), just want some clarification about returning to a stock state before proceeding.
Current device state
Android 4.1.1
Basband I9305TDVAL15
Kernel Version 3.0.31-178410
Build JRO03C.I9305TDVAL16
I am happy to purchase Triangle Away to remove the counter if I flash custom ROMS etc.
Will the following procedure return me to stock state for warranty reasons....?
1. Revert to a nandroid back-up of stock rom taken directly after CWM/rooting
2. Use Triangle Away to remove "!" and counter
3. Put phone into download mode and flash the files from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971265
Some extra q's
Does the order of flashing in step 3 matter ...?
Am I better using stock ROM from http://www.sammobile.com instead of nandroid backup...?
Alternatively if I use CWM and flash the files from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947920 as step 3, will the counter still be 0 after using Triangle Away seeing you have to boot into recovery...?
Thank you in advance for any help and advice. I realise that this question is mainly answered throughout other threads, but I have read so much different stuff I would just like to clarify.
Thanks again.
You would be better off Downloading the Stock Rom with Odin and keeping the Files in a safe place.
I keep mine Burned to a CD and on a 4Gb USB and keep it with the Original Box.
Flashing a Stock Rom will also Flash the Recovery and Kernel.
I know people that have tried to do a nandroid restore and full Bricking their device.
And Use Triangle Away just before flashing Stock to remove the "!" and make sure Flash Counter is Reset to Zero.
Thank you so much...
Could you point me to a reliable guide for downloading the stock ROM, or give me a quick run-down.
I have Odin3 V3.04 in preparation for flashing CWM/root.

The Best place to Download Stock Roms is SamMobile. http://www.sammobile.com. Free to Join.
I can see they have the Telstra I9305TDVALI6, which is the same Build as your Stock.

All good man.
When you said " Downloading the Stock Rom with Odin" in your first reply... I thought that meant you could somehow download the current ROM of the device. Which was news to me lol, though I might have been missing something.
I have registered with sammobile and am currently downloading the firmware.
In the meantime I have backed-up IMEI/EFS, CWM'ed, rooted and nandroided... so should be all good
Thanks again for the advice, all the appropriate data and instruction is safely tucked away in case needed in the future.
Cheers
