Wifi error - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been running cwm7.2/glitch kernel for awhile.started showing sdcard damaged/safe to remove.reflashed rom, that solved that problem.its been about a week since reflash.now getting error when I turn on wifi.don't think reflash caused this because of timeframe.have 2 other phones I experiment with, both have cwm/glitch and are fine.any suggestions on this problem would be appreciated.thnx

You should probably wipe everything and reflash and try a different rom. Try cm9 or cm10 as many, including I, have seen significant performance increases

Thnx for reply.I reflashed ROM and kernel(sticking w/gb ).seems to be
working.think I had a corrupted backup file when I restored.

I used to have this issue, with a different app - dropbox. Turned out to be a bad flash of ROM. Stopped having this issue once I reverted to stock and installed the ROM again. Issue came in with I loaded my current ROM over an existing non-stock ROM.
That's strange cause odin'd back to stock then applied new rom last week and everything was fine then.. What I would like to know is what causes it, I would hate to re apply rom... Ugh!

I know it was down last night
When the site is down, it keeps prompting for userid/pwd repeatedly. I think the issue here is that it logs out after a period inactivity.

Wife's galaxy s

Hi my wife's galaxy s has started turning the screen on at random..and continuously sometimes. This as we know will start ruining the battery.I've had many issues with her ics. For some reason since installing a kernel. It messed it all up somehow the remains of the boot image or kernel etc is still onboard thankfully I still can boot her. Can't apply custom roms at all. I can send an official rom from the PC but that's it. I managed to get gb on. Its started randomly turning the screen on. Fairly certain its not the rom she's had it since last year
Any ideas? Is there anyway to totally strip the phone of virtually everything to the core and start against

If you think its a kernel issue you could run a kernel cleaner script then reflash, but my sgs did this when it got water damage almost exactly as your described
Sent from my GT-I9000 running remICS-UX using XDA premium
Thanks for the reply do you know where the kernel script is?

Do a nandroid backup. Then copy necessary files to SD card (rom, kernel, modem, whatever.)
Then format /system and do a factory reset. Then do a fresh install of your kernel and rom.
Then in cwm go to backup and restore, advanced restore, and restore her data!
Then your phone is fresh .

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166954 here you go read the guide and flash it , I seriously doubt the other suggestion will work as the nandroid backup restores it to exactly how it was before I mean like if your wifi was left on it will be on after you restore exact, so what ever bug is doing this will almost defiantly restore aswell
Sent from my GT-I9000 running remICS-UX using XDA premium
It will work we are just saving data like settings and apps.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Ill just back up apps. And SMS etc that's it. Need a new rom anyway

It backs all the system apps up aswell and every single thing so if there is a bug it will restore that aswell... your better off just redownloading the Alps from play market after and using a sms backup app if you want a clean install

Is my i9000 knackered?

I have tried flashing various roms and have come to the conclusion that my phone is knackered. What do you think?
Symptoms:
(1) When I go into cwm to flash a zip the phone thinks the internal sd-card is the external sd and can't locate the sd card
(2) Sometimes the phone doesn't boot
(3) Sometimes when I boot the applications I have installed are lost
(4) Sometimes when I try to install an app off the market the phone thinks there isn't enough space
(5) If I flash CM9 it comes up with the Encryption error message
My Solutions that haven't worked:
(1) Flashing stock rom jvu/jvz/jw4 with s1_odin_20100512
(2) Flashing EZbase 4 and Darkyrom Resurrection
Does anyone know how to fix my phone? Is it possible to somehow restore my phone to an 'out of the box' state?
Thanks in advance
I started having problems with /sdcard, last week after flashing a CM10 nightly.
Flashed JVU as a test and everything is fine.
Now back to CM10, but now after I boot I go into "storage" and click "mount"
No idea what's going on but I'm functional gain.
When you reflashed did you tick re-partition
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Yes, i ticked re-partition when i used a pit file
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app
When i go into cwm and storage it can't mount sd card. Thanks though

Hmm I'll look into it and see if I can find a solution otherwise sorry mate don't know

Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app
No offence but could it be that you flashed an i9000 firmware on your i9003? Your signature says you got an i9003 so I'm a bit confused now... I'm not saying you're stupid, I'm just thinking in all possible directions
Nah, i am using someone else's phone lol! Mine is an i9000!

If I turn the phone on about 20 times it boots. Now on android 4.1 and seems stable if I keep it on. Think my phone must just be getting worn out

Getting error code that means internal sd is fried. Have flashed a zip to switch internal with external. Lets see if this works.

if you go back to full stock kk4 now, then do a factory reset, does the problem go away?
if not, then it might be hardware, not software.
i think so but now back kk4 so low but ill try

Nothing solve it???
Im back kk4 and then come slimbean rc2 but same problem
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
did you have the problem when you went back to kk4, while you were still on kk4?
It sounds like you done goofed. Your only salvation is what was mentioned in a previous post: Odin back to stock. I've goofed up my capdaddy many a times. Sometimes Odin will not take the first couple of times but you will get it right. Just be patient. You must have misunderstood the directions. I know I have while flashing and I've paid the price for not understanding what I was supposed to do. You'll be okay.

If your screen works on kk4 then it should work when you upgrade. I know we sound like broken records with this question but did you follow the flashing directions? It's an elaborate process for beginners. I'm not saying anything about your skills. Just that everything must be done as directed for these ROM's to work properly. There must be something you're getting wrong.
