[Possible key to overclocking] Mounting/Unpacking BcmCP.img - Galaxy Ace S5830i General

Hello,
After so much time of no one figuring out how the bcm21533 overclocks, and after I examined the kernel sources and found nothing, I started thinking the override that blocks frequencies over 832mhz was outside of the kernel
So if you unzip a firmware, you'll find that BcmCP.img is the only file that is not "vanilla android" for so to say. And "Bcm" really suggests it's part of broadcom
I tried to extract or mount the file but I have no idea what filesystem it is
I think there might be a chance that this file might have an override because if you search 00b20c00 you get 2 matches. But you don't really know what's going on until you figure out how to extract BcmCP.img
So that's why I posted this thread. Maybe someone can figure out how to open this img file :victory:.
If no one does i'll still try to find it myself but I could use some help from people that know more than me about android

stupid question, i know....
but you know you have to use a linux distro?

Yes. I dont know what filesystem is it though

You need this to unpack :
[KITCHEN] Android Kitchen, v0.211 [Linux / Mac / Windows]

unpack it?
Did you manage to find how to unpack it?
I want to do the same thing.

Hey Maikeu,
Is there a tutorial something like that except for topaz maybe? I can successfully unsquashfs the XDAndroid 2.1 system.sqsh just fine...but when I try to unsquashfs the 1.6 (TopazKernal16) system.sqsh, it makes it to about 70% then stops saying "Killed".
If you could point me in the right direction for help, that would be great! If it makes a difference, I'm actually using Vector Linux instead of Ubuntu.
Thanks!

Ok...it took me forever but I figured it out...
Just a couple things to note (in case anyone else is trying to do this)...when you "unsquash" the system.sqsh, it creates a "squashfs-root" folder where everything is. Move all that stuff up a folder so it's all in the "system" folder and you can delete the "squashfs-root".
Also, when using "mksquashfs" make sure to use " -nolzma" at the end...Don't quite know what it is, must be something with compression because I notices the end sqsh file is slightly bigger...but that's what you have to tag on so when booting Android it can actually mount the sqsh file.

yeah, that will work...but you can just keep it the same name without every creating a "system" folder. I don't even bother using the "genext2fs" tool...I just "unsquashfs" it and it will create the "squashfs-root" folder and then when I'm done modifying it, just
Code:
mksquasfs squashfs-root system.img -nolzma
and that should do it.
You'll know if it doesn't work cuz Android will error while loading system.sqsh. =)

[Q] Downloading BIN/FLS form LG CSMG servers

As you all already know, if you use this, you can check your current firmware:

It's direct link to firmware in BIN/FLS format that can be used with SmartFlash to unbrick or fast flashing our phones.
Unfortunately we can't download this file with our web browser.
Is there any possibility to "cheat" LG servers, by modyfying HTTP packets (or something) to let us download this firmware?

B2C only downloads kdz files. You only need to check out its userdata, and you will find it in there.
So I also dont know, how to get the bin files. I bet that anyone has either gotten them from a friendly LG customer service worker, or he/she him-/herself is a LG worker.
what means the code after OK IMEI...... LGP970 APRTTL 110K ...... DATE when you put the IMEI .... it`s show`s when the IMEI was first time activate or it show`s when the IMEI was created ? thanks
Do you mean this: DEC-31-2011+0.zip?If so, it means, when the software was finished, I think.

After lg update client extracted the kdz file, we'll get cab file and then it get extracted again and we get p970.dll and wdb file. I've check p970.dll and it has reference to AP download and CP download. If the update client did download the AP and CP file, a tcpdump or wireshark capture during the update might be useful. But more likely it just convert wdb to AP and CP using p970.dll before flashing the phone. That we need lg's proprietary tool to do the conversion.
Also, judging from url, i think the link is just for reference for their technian or something like that.

Hey guys,
I tried something interesting today. I upgraded to the latest official firmware with the LG Mobile Update and it appears, that the .fls and .bin files are loaded into memory by LGUserCSTool.exe when the upgrading process starts. I verified this by dumping its memory and looking inside with a hex editor. That means the newest firmware .fls and .bin can be taken from there.
I had a hard time finding out where the files ended inside the dump, though. Also the bin file seems to be in multiple parts (LGP970_AP[0].bin, LGP970_AP[1].bin etc). So in the end, I didn't quite get there, but maybe someone more knowledgeable can improve on this?
Nice finding man. Somewhere to start. I've tried direct download with encoded url but failed miserably. Lol.
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA App
Try sniffing communication between LG and update. Also probably you need to have correct useragent set.
I tried that too. LG Update uses 2 user agents, none of them give access to the bins. Besides, the regular updater only downloads the kdz file which is available to everyone.

Did you just flash an update .zip that included the boot.img and the recovery.img?!
Im pretty sure that you should not do that!
Why are the the 2 Ste_boot. imgs being flashed to the same location? or there in the first place?
From the info you posted above it seems like the Partitions are pretty much messed up.
If you cant get into download mode then there is no way you can fix it.
I ended up having a brick from a CWM touch recovery (not yours) I couldn't fix and I ended up flashing stock everything and rerooting.

Do not format your device with any tools if you don't know what they do.
The device has a single flash chip, repartitioned into several Partitions, if you attempt to format you will format the partition table, then the device will require a new motherboard.
Those 3 files are separate partitions instead of one tar, quite common in other devices.
I would try to repackge the original images into separated tars, something like this....
boot.img as boot.tar
modem bin as phone.tar
cache.image as csc.tar
system.img and all remaning .img files, as pda.tar
then flash the all together via odin with repartition.

Accidentally Parsed "ro.build.description" (In Dire Need Of Help)

Hello ladies and gents. As you may have been able to tell from the title, I made a huge mistake when playing around with my phone's build.prop file. I had tapped on the ro.build.description file and it pulled up the keyboard. I accidentally input an "r", so I deleted it, then saved and left the prop file, thinking everything was fine and proper. Unfortunately, that was not so. Upon my next reboot, I discovered several problems. The Playstore and gallery crash upon every open, and even worse, my internal memory isn't being recognized. I know the problems must be originating from the build description prop file, since that was the only prop file change that had happened since my last reboot. If anyone could give any tips on how to fix this or mount the external sd as internal, that would be wonderful. I need to be able to screnshot, install apps, and perform other functions that require internal storage. Please help me out ASAP.

extract the build.prop file from your rom.zip
make a flashable zip & flash it. will work normal again
(ifm u dont know how to make flashable zip, just get any flashable mod,
extract all files, delete all files , only leave the meta-inf folder with its data inside untouched & a folder called "system",
put build.prop into system folder, now mark both folders --> right click --> send to zip, put on sd & flash)
good luck!

I'm really sorry, but I don't know what you mean by my Rom. Generally, I'm pretty knowledgeable about my Android, but I've only been rooted for about a week. If by rom you mean like ClockworkMod or something, I'm just on my stock rom. If you mean something else, I don't know. And which slot in Odin would put this in? I only have experience with .tar and .md5.

1. download the system image here: http://www.mrcrab.net/viewstockrom/19845-sm-g730a.html (or anywhere if u find, maybe at SAMMOBILE)
2. (try) to extract the parts of it, we need the system image. if u dont know how just google it, maybe some tools needed for diffrent kind of datas. once all extracted the build.prop is inside system (-folder). copy it to SD & replace via any ROOT explorer, set the right permissions, like in this pic LINK, reboot done.
if you CANT extract that image, make you ready for completly new install of your ROM.

I can do that, but I have a problem. I can't download the file from the link you provided. Could you find me a different place to download the image from, or maybe even give me a direct download link? Thanks.

i use slimkat 4.4.4 by android-andi on SGS3 Mini (i8190n).
1. using root explorer, changing perm on the first / (the root dir, i believe).
2. this one is new problem, nothing to do with our recent dialogs, hope can get some idea on this one.
yesterday, i install android tweaker app, and set the auto system/device tweak( can't remember exact) and reboot my device
to apply the setting. and got stuck on boot animation (blinking 'SAMSUNG' anim, after the 'GT I8190N' image on ori ROM). it
didn't loop (no bootloop), just stuck on blinking animation, boot image i guest?
Any idea just throw in please, really want to try and confirm on any solution we got in mind.
thanks in advance everyone.

How to convert boot.bin into boot.img??

I'm unable to figure out how to convert the boot.bin file I extracted from the firmware.kdz file. Magic iso won't convert the bin file to img file. So do I just change the extension from .bin to .img? Something tells me it's not that simple.
Btw I'm asking because I'm trying to build a rom. So I'm gonna need this boot.img to be able to boot in my rom. Any help is appreciated.
Or if someone could point me in the right direction for pulling the boot.img from my phone with adb, that would work too. All the guides I found are for different devices with different partition names. And a lot of the commands aren't working for me.

Did it work, or not? I have the same question.
If you have root you can use app 'Partitions Backup & Restore' by Wanam from app store to pull any partition from your phone.
