Nandroid backup restore not working Philz 6.0.15 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I might lose all contacts :crying: There is 290+ of them. I'm noob in this stuff and i need help!!
So before i was going to flash a rom i did a nandroid backup and i did restore (CMW Touch PhilZ 6.0.15). The same backup i just created to see if it works ( i don't know why). It was restoring files like normal ( about 10 mins). Then i restarted the phone. Samsung logo kept glowing about 10 mins and more but Galaxy Note didn't show homescreen. What it that? Bootloop? And then i tried flashing Slim rom 2.6v and it changed my recovery to CMW 5.5 or something similar with smaller touch buttons and smaller selection rows. Never experienced such things with S3. flashed about 15-20 roms and recovery was never changed. Why did rom change phone's recovery on my Note? But rom worked (homescreen, menus and etc as it should). Then i tried to do restore again. Did latest restore same wich i tried restoring before flashing (in that 5.5v wich was installed by new rom). Got error. Restarted. And my installed recovery 6.0.15 by PhilZ appeared again? Why this happened? Why doesn't this happen on S3 ( s3 always has same recovery as i flashed 10+ typed of different roms or is just this one?) So tried to restore latest point again. It was restoring about 10 mins like normal restore in time. But after restart it could not properly boot and show homescreen. Just showed Samsung glowing logo and phone was warm like CPU would be on load.
Btw. I have almost one month old backups too. 2 of them and they do the same thing after restore. Just glowind samsung logo. As i can remember ( not guaranteeing ) i restored from one of those backups because i was flashing a custom rom and wanted to go back.
Is it possible to get CONTACTS back from that backup? System settings? I will lose sooo much time without those contacs!!! :crying: Please help me!
What tools do i need to get back my stuff?
If there will be correct answer more than one person. The first one will get this gift. I will be back in about 10 hours.\

Hello.
Your contacts are stored here data.ext4.tar\data\data\com.android.providers.contacts\databases\ with *.db extension
Try to extract them and replace.

Problem is that my backups are 20mb. And one main backup with lots lots of folders. That's is how 6,0,15 recovery is made? Yes? And there is no tar file wich i could open with winrar.
Omg.. Just ultima flashed rom with that 5,5v recovery from Slim rom and now i can't even see samsung boot glowind logo. But works in download mode. What should i flash now!?
I'm going to sleep. Hope no nightmares about phones lol...

That's because you used .dup format to backup, so the backup folder is around 20MB as you said and blobs folder is around 800MB to 2GB, depends what ROM you used.
None of yours backup work?

download alliance ROM v2.1 resurection and use odin to flash it. Your phone will be back then, reboot recovery wipe cache dalvik and data, reboot. Download any xxls2 rom and flash it try to restore your data using titanium extract from nandroid.

[Q] Phone won't boot after cleaning Cache+Dlavik on ICS.

Hey guys! First of all-sorry for being one of those people who post a question on thier first post.
I've been happily using TEAMHACKSUNG's ICS Build 15 for a couple of months with zero problem.
Restarted the phone a few hours ago in Recovery mode and cleared Cache+Dlavik Cache and after that, the phone couldn't boot. The Samsung screen shows first, then the CYANOGEN MOD screen, and Smasung again..in a loop.
Tried getting to Recovery mode, and nothing...same problem..
Download mode worked.
Please help me fix this situation. Hopfully without a full system wipe...\=
Thanks in advance! [=

I've flashed the stock CM7 Kernel and know I can get to recovery.
unfortunately, I don't have the rom's zip file on the internal card to flash it. I've managed to put the rom on the external sd card, but as it seems, there is no way to flash it through the external card.
I did a backup of my system thru CWM [don't have another one]. Thought of maybe flashing stock GB in odin, then CM7, then Teamhacksung's build 15, and then restore the backup I've just did.
Will it work or maybe there's a better idea?
Thanks!

I've flashed CM9 build 15 through all the instructions, with a couple of wipes in between...
Then, restored the nandroid backup and when all done-a weird colorful stripes appeared and nothing. So I installed Build 15 again and the phone booted!
Only problem now is for some reason, Messages aren't working, aswell as Facebook. And all my contacts gone [not a problem, but still-they were supposed to restore after the nandroid..]
Did I do something wrong? Can I fix the messages problem somehow?
Thanks in advance!

Dude, download it http://ics.samsung-updates.com/trouble/FixRecovery.tar.md5 and flash it via odin at PDA , than go to recovery snd flash kernel again. And remember if u making a wipe at ics base rom, flash again kernel, its normal..

Fussy GT-S5830

Hello all. I'm having trouble with a galaxy ace, in that it seems very fussy about which ROMs it will run. Bought it about 6mo ago from Optus Australia on prepaid and unlocked it to use on another network. I tried at the time to upload a custom ROM, but failed and ended up having to re-load it with Odin 4.38 and the only images I could then find, which are these:
APBOOT_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
CODE_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
CSC_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03_user_low_true.tar.md5
MODEM_S5830XXKPH_CL260130_REV03.tar.md5
Just recently the device has been unstable so I looked around and found the stable CM 7.2 ROM recently released (cm-7.2.0-cooper.zip) so I grabbed that, installed CWM 5.0.2.6, ran a backup and tried to install it. Device only got as far as the black boot screen with the word Android in uppercase doublespaced and hung.
Booted back into CWM and tried to restore, got the MD5 checksum error. Fixed the nandroid.md5 and tried again, and the device then hung at the initial boot screen for the stock rom (says Samsing Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 or similar).
Back to Odin. Found a recent version (4.42) and a one package ROM, S5830XWKT7_S5830OPPKS6_S5830XWKT3_HOME.tar.md5 and loaded this to the handset. This one gives me an Optus spashscreen followed by the sort of pulsing SAMSUNG text in an infinite loop.
Eventually tried the flasher and ROM I used six months ago (at the top of the thread) and was able to get the phone to boot successfully. Reinstalled the rooting package, reinstalled CWM5 and managed to restore just data out of the advanced backup/restore menu.
So I'm back to where I started, only six hours worse off Has anyone got any idea why this isn't working for me, or any good suggestions of how to proceed?
Cheers,
Alex
Are you sure you are using the GT-S5830 and not the Gt-S5830i ?
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace.
damn, that would be a stupid mistake
No, I'm not absolutely positive. The sticker under the battery says GT-S5830, but from a look at google images the two handsets appear identical? How can I establish for sure?

Use Odin 4.38, download any one package firmware from sammobile with your backup's android version (ie 2.3.4, 2.3.5 or whatever).
Flash it, wipe everything after Flash (from stock recovery), then root, install cwm and restore your backup.
Boot loops are mostly caused when you don't wipe after flashing. Connection issues can be fixed by flashing your region's modem.
Also, restore backups using the appropiate cwm version (backups of cwm5 restore with cwm5)
Cheers. Dunno if I'm being a bit simple here, but I'm only finding 10 most recent FWs here, all of which are 2.3.6 ?
I didn't do as much wiping as you suggest last time though, so i'll give it another whirl and see if I do any better.
I was being simple. Hadn't selected a region.
trying now.
Flash DXKPB 2.3.4 Asian firmware first. If you flash that, it will format all of your partition back to rfs
And after that you can just flash newer firmware like XWKT7 2.3.6 and wipe data. Voila!

i had stock 2.3.6 and i decided to download and flash Jellaxy
it works, but sometimes its slow, lagging and apps crashing
i have nandroids of both (stock and jellaxy)
i tried restoring stock 2.3.6
error restoring /system
advanced restore just system didnt work, too
i flashed 2.3.5 italian through odin (download mode)
odin didnt finish because of bootloop
i dont remember exactly, but i did wipe, factory reset, cache and/or other
it booted, finally (in italian)
then i formatted /data and recovered old data
bootloop
i tried wiping all at once: dalvik, cache, data, factory reset
bootloop
now i cant go to download / recovery by holding vol down/up and home and power, it goes to ramdump
recovery is now home + power
i can restore jellaxy, but not stock
what to do? i'm stuck on jellaxy

To restore a stock rom your file systen to rfs !!!
And all custum rom are ext4!!
Meaning ... Use stock recovery to wipe data causing the system to become rfs again then install cwm and ONLY !!! Restore ! Otherwise if u format it will convert to ext4 again !
U can also use chainfire ext4 app to change file system in jellaxy and then restore.
Take care

Can recover with CWM recovery but no boot afterwards

I installed the NOVA HD software with CWM Recovery. Just to try it. I made a full backup of my original GB with CWM Recovery. When I wanted to go back to my original gb rom I wiped all memory and then I did recover my backup. But after full recovery and a reset the phone got stuck on the startup logo. So again a full wipe and then NOVA HD ROM on it. All went well, and the phone booted normally into ICS. After that NO wipe and recover original GB backup. The logo came. Then the original splash screen also. And then nothing again.
What am I missing here? What should I do to get my backup of the original GB rom back on my phone with CWM Recovery?
Perhaps a file system format problem ? What version of CWM do you use? Touch 6 version has problems with ext3.
Find and try backtoext3 zip to force ext3 on all partitions, before restoring. And depending what version of CWM you use try the Non Touch 6 CWM (see thread about new 6.x CWM first post).

Strange so.... Try back2ext3 anyway.
Try to flash cm7 or other GB rom. And after that restore your backup. Might even try with a stock GB.
working
hey if u dont want to root ur phone then go with smartflash .The below link is give u a original rom and installing method .BUT BE SURE IT WILL WIPE UR ALL INTERNAL DATA u must backup all data first .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1035041
in this u find the 2 files
1 fls file which is baseband file put it in cp bin
2 bin file which is ur orignal rom put it in ap bin
NOTE-- if ur fail in first 1 or 2 attempts then dont worry repeat it for several times. This will put ur device on stock rom and unroot
All thanks for your replys. I think I will give CM7 a try. And then trying to get the backup back.
But maybe I will stay on this Nova HD rom. It is very quick. I have it installed now for two weeks and don't have any problems with it besides the headsetbutton and videocam issues. I like the quick startup of the normal cam function though. And I use holo launcher which is for me the snappiest and lowest memory consuming launcher.

CWM Recovery Won't Install

I'm following this tutorial on how to root my Orange UK GT-I9305 LTE Unlocked phone running 4.1.2.
Everything goes fine with Odin the phone reboots, then I unplug and turn off my phone, and boot into recovery mode only to find it hasn't installed and Android system recovery 3e is still there.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I did follow them to the letter, does installing CWM Recovery actually root the phone or is "rooting" the phone a different process entirely that's required for installing CWM Recovery?.

I initially had a rooted stock ROM that i was using for ages then upgraded to a custome ROM but for personal reasons decided to go back to stock.
Loaded stock ROM with intention of rooting only to get rid of bloatware, but not one of the ODIN Flash recoveries work at all, not one, so like you ended up using CF Auto and that worked but now im still stuck with Stock Recovery. I dont understand why none of the recoveries flash when they did before.

trouble with cwm/ twrp
Hi all. Yes I'm a noob and I wouldn't ask If hadn't tried a plethora of ways to install either cwm or twrp.
It took me a good hour to find this thread so hope I'm in the right place.
Ok I used odin to root and cwm didn't stick so still on stock rec. However I used framaroot to get super su working and titanium says I'm all rooted up. Other apps only for root also work.
I've since tried using goo manager and Rom manager to install cwm or twrp and both say unsupported.
I've searched these here threads and found a few with same problem namely when using odin cwm wont stick and android reinstalls stock recovery.
So I'm a bit stuck, I'm rooted but have no cwm or twrp.
Any help would he much appreciated.
Try Philz recovery .
I have never used a custom recovery on this phone but i think i read somewhere that when flashing by odin the thing to do is not let odin reboot the phone. untick the reboot option. then when odin is done flashing and says pass shut down the phone . dont let it boot up.once phone is off you can boot into recovery by vol up+hom+power Here is the tricky part. as soon as you see the white samsung start to load aka bootloader screen release the power button but continue to press volume up and home. you should see the circle with the hat symbol. and enter into clockworkmod once in clockwork mod you will need to wipe data cache and dalvick DO NOT WIPE SYSTEM then flash a custom rom zip that you have previously copied to either your extsdcard or sdcard0 at the same time you probably will want to flash gapps as well. the thing is if you boot up before entering recovery . the default native recovery from samsung will take its place back. maybe it is easier to just flash rom manager in the play store. flash clockworkmod and then boot into recovery from the app itself. I9300 is supported . dont know about I9305
thanks !

Thats exactly how I understood the cwm not sticking problem. I have tried rom manager and said not compatable with my device as did goo manager for twrp. I think odin is the only way I get it to stick. So il flash in odin and il try to get into cwm as it boots and wipe those two files you mentioned.
But then can I just boot up as normal ? or will android try to reflash its stock rom ? Damn my phone for being so difficult
I only ask because I haven't decided what CR to use yet (or even looked for any). I was gonna get it all ready first then learn how to install a CR - 1 thing at a time i thought.
Anyway thanks for your help :good:
JJEgan I found Philz thread to be helpful but something I feel Im just not ready for. Im new to this and although the updated cwm looked cool there were just to much going on, maybe for a later day.
Thanks all the same :good:
wiping data plus cache plus dalvick cache is done to prepare your phone for the custom rom that you are going to flash. the wiping is to clean those partitions because if they are not erased you will have problems. especially if you go from one android version to another or touchwiz to aosp. it is done so you get a clean install with minimal issues. if it is not done you will most likely bootloop. effectively it is a factory reset. all of your apps and app data will be gone so you do not want to do that unless you have backed up your apps . however sometimes google automatically installs them after you sign in.
I am not sure why clockwork mod does not stick but if you copy the rom you want to your phone install clockworkmod with odin and then use clockwork mod to flas the rom and gapps package then factory reset you will not have the stock recovery anymore. but this has to be done without booting into android stock . PLEASE FOLLOW THE FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY. AND UNDERSTAND ANYTIME YOU FLASH OR MODIFY YOUR PHONE YOU VOID YOUR WARRANTY AND POSSIBLY CAN CAUSE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE. BEST OF LUCK!

think I got it lol
Ok that's sounds good. However I've just read the threads you linked and now I've got to back up my imei and NV files first or il loose them when flashing. The procedure is all there and seems doable for a noob but i read some peeps are having trouble just doing that. I really wanted to root/install a CR regardless of the troubles cos I want full access and more importantly want to learn all the ins and outs so I can get the best use from my phone so glad I found this forum cause I'm sure I would have bricked my phone otherwise.
Might I ask if I've got this right tho?
1: backup imei/NV files
2: use odin to get cwm to stick using your method
3: boot into cwm to wipe data/dalvick cache and gapps
4:use cwm to flash a CR
5:factory reset
I think that's right?

Thank-you for all that,I really appreciate it.
Can I ask the difference between the apps nandroid manager and titanium? I've backed up with both and wondered if i really needed to? The nandroid backup was nearly 3gb!
Also I was gona backup with qpst for imei and NV files but then read its only for US versions? Will the backup of efs folder include those?
honestly i really dont know what the differences are. l do not use custom recoveries or custom roms. i dont use titanium backup .Any rom I flash i get from sammobile.com. one reason i do not use custom roms is that none can support mhl. I use a monitor and bluetooth mouse and keyboard . without mhl I cant mirror my screen so i always stay with stock roms. i use Xposed framework for modifications.

I have never used a custom recovery on this phone but i think i read somewhere that when flashing by odin the thing to do is not let odin reboot the phone......

[Q] Stuck at samsung logo

I have a N7000 that got stuck at Samsung logo without any sort of modification of firmware or similar. I suspect it had 4.1.2 but I can't be 100% sure. First I tried to wipe cache from recovery menu then I tried to flash it with 4.1.2 using Odin without any success. After reboot it got stuck on starting apps just after it had optimized all the apps for 4.1.2. After another boot it's still stuck at Samsung logo. The thing is that I have a lot of pictures of my children that I want to save if possible. What do you recommend, trying an old GB ROM? As saw a special ROM for another phone that wiped everything but data. Is there something similar to N7000?
You may need to format data to get the phone to boot up again. Download philz kernel for JB and flash it from recovery. Then boot onto recovery again and you should see cwm. Then choose wipe data. This will delete all user apps and it's data but will not delete pictures and videos on your internal storage. Then reboot. If phone still doesn't boot then you may need to flash is one more time.

I flashed a GB rom with Odin but got nothing I could use. Didn't get past the setup. Then I flashed 4.1.2 again and could actually get past the samsung logo. It's extremly instable though, crashing all the time. Could copy a single file in the root folder with usb but as soon as I try open another folder it crashes. Is there something I could do to make it more stable? Could philz help? Perhaps the filsystem is messed up....
You need to do a factory reset.

I gradually shut down services and features and uninstalled apps (especially service based ones) until it was stable enough for me to copy files through usb. Success
Now I just need to back contacts etc before I can do a proper wipe and reinstall 4.1.2. Is there a especially good app for it? And if that fails, are the contact info/address book accessable through the file system?
Usually synced with Google but you could make a nandorid back from recovery and then one you have the new ROM installed, use titanium backup to extract app data of contacts and contacts storage using "extract from nandroid backup" functionality.
