[Q] CWM was removed after external SD format - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had just rooted my galaxy S the other day using CF-root and it comes with superuser, CWM and tweaks after rooting.
After that I've flashed my ROM to CM10 M2.
After one day of use, my external SD card is giving me errors like it always do and ask me to format it. So I did since I'm pretty sure I saved nothing inside it. However after the format I realized all my original files, CWM and tweak is missing from the app list, and also my nandroid backups.
Is CWM saved in the external SD card? I'm sure I did not mount in my SD card during the rooting and flashing process, and I did not move CWM to external SD either. OR did i accidentally formatted my internal SD instead?
How can I install back my CWM and tweaks?

most likely you formated the internal SD card, if external SD card needs formating often, would be due to imitation SD card , so remove it or replace it.
To get CWM back, flash the CF root again and do what you did before to get the tweaks

I've always have this sd card problem no matter how many times i changed my sd card..
I flashed it with Odin, so do I repeat the process again? Is that fine? I'm new on this, was thinking of flashing with Odin again but afraid that re-rooting might cause problems

If you flashed the ROM with Odin, your rooting kernel would have been replaced with the stock kernel, so rooting again with CF will not be a problem

one problem though, when I first started CF root my build version is JVH, but now after the cm10 flash my build version is something JZO54K. Is it save to re-root the JVH version?
the build number is XXJVT, should I download the JVT zip instead for the re-rooting with odin?

[Q] Is it possible to install a custom rom (e.g ROCKET ROM) without a SD card?

Sorry for a real n00b question but is it possible to install a custom rom (e.g. ROCKET ROM) on my Galaxy Note without a SD Card?
If it is, can someone please provide me with a link to a how-to/step-by-step explanation?`
Many thanks in advance!!
I think no unless you use Odin software and plug your phone to the computer while in download mode. Although roms for Odin and CWM are in different formats and not compatible with each other.
However, I heard that if you flash third party (non-stock) firmware to your phone using Odin, it will add to the flash counts, which will make your phone lose warranty (if your Note even have warranty when you imported it).
Maybe there is a way to do update through adb, but I do not know.
Also I forgot, you can install rom from internal storage using CWM Manager app.
You can use the phone's internal memory to store the ROM to be flashed. Don't really need to put it on the microSD card. Make sure you are rooted and have clockwork installed.

I'm already rooted and have CWM Manager 3.0 installed.
I also did a backup yesterday (I will do a new backup before flashing), but since the backup is on the internal memory, can I restore to the original stock rom if I don't like the ROCKET ROM for some reason?
Or will the internal memory be wiped clean if I flash the ROCKET ROM to my Galaxy Note?
Many thanks for the help!
That's fine, and you don't need to worry about internal storage being wiped. Your 16GB (or 32GB) shows up in the system as SD card. If you add a physical microSD card that will be listed as external SD. A bit confusing I know, but that 16/32GB is partitioned separately from the phones main memory (~2GB). When you flash a ROM its only the 2GB partition that gets overwritten, nothing happens to your SD card and external SD card memory.

GingerDX v24 memory card problem.

Hey guys,
I just went through the process
of installing the gingerDX rom on my x8 with Stock kernal and baseband *****15. (i have CWM)
It seems to work fine, however i then noticed that it wouldnt pick up my memory
card at all, as in i cant mount my memory card but when i remove my memory card
it says "SD card removed please inserted a new one" which still doesnt work
when i reinsert it (i have also tried a new memory card)
I have already reinstalled the ROM done the full factory reset also.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Any chance you messed around with your SD card previous to installing the ROM?
Since you obviously managed to flash the ROM off of your SD card it seems as ClockworkMod was actually able to pick up the card.
What brand/class? There are a some rare cases where Gingerbread dislikes certain SDs or where the card was improperly partitioned/formatted.

Strange Sd card problem

Whenever i Install an gingerbread or cm7 Rom 2.3.7 on my x8,
after it the sd card in the phone is protected against writing, only reading.
The phone dont see the SD card anymore , and on my pc it see the card in my cardreader but i cant copy and paste things from it.
When i directly connect the phone with the sd card in it to my pc via usb, the pc dont see the sd card also.
Then when i flash back to the original Rom, the SD card is back normal like writing and reading and my phone sees the card.
Also i can Copy and paste like normal.
When i flash to froyo pro 24 (2.2.9 android) the phone also see the card like normal.
Looks to me something in 2.3 android versions mess with my SD card and set it on read only...
Does someone know what this could be?
Thnx in advance,
Henk
what sd card do you have? did you try format it?
It is the standard 4gb card that was in the box from the x8.
I install the roms via this sdcard.
I also formatted it but that did not solve the problem.
there is no ''lock''on the card, and after i flash it back to the original stock rom with flashtool it shows the card with no write or read protection.
In android 1.6 ,2.1 and 2.2 till version 2.2.9 i dont have the sd card issues.
I checked mini cm shakira,
herodroid
gx stock
prime hd and 2 other roms based on android 2.3.
Some i reinstalled and full wiped after the installation but that made no difference.
(offcourse i always full wipe/factory before installing the Roms )
In''storage settings it always say:
-total space
unavailable
-Available space
unavailable
-mount Sd card
Insert a sd card for mounting
-erase Sd card
erases all data on the phone Sd card such as music and photos.
(This is the only option that is highlighted and usable, and it erases only files when i tested it, it dont format the card)
I also tried to unlock the read only protection to place the mini sd card in the cardreader but i can't find an option to unlock that protection.
It only shows the files on the card but i cant copy and paste something.
(Both in windows7 and windows xp)
Some of them are on Stock kernel and the mini cm7 on an naa kernel.
(problem with the naa kernel was that i could not update the fix after flashing the rom in xrecovery,
since right after the flash from my sd card to mm7 my sdcard was on read only and write protected........had to reinstall the stock version by flashtool again and install xrecovery again and busybox, rooting, to start after with the flashing of custom roms again.
All of them did something with the sd card that it is read only when i place it in my sd card reader on pc ,and its not visible on the phone.
With some roms i can access the sd card via cwm or xrecovery to flash an rom zip but sometimes it says it cant mount''e'',
which is my sd card.
After i flashed my phone back to stock rom via flashtool, the sd card is visible again on the phone and not read or write protected.
Also on froyo pro 24(android 2.2) i dont have this sd card problem.
Could it be that there is some kind of driver for my sd card so that my phone reconize the sd card?
I really don't know what this issue could be and im stucked on 2.2 now.
you're using 2nd ext partition?
if yes, trying to solve it and boot via cwm and format it using partition sdcard (advance > partition sdcard) you need to backup your data first
if not using 2nd ext partition, try format using this http://hard-disk-low-level-format-tool.software.informer.com/ but i'm not test it yet
maybe u must check and repair your sdcard
1. try with another sdcard
2. make sure if your sdcard format is FAT
or
3. backup your sdcard data to your pc, then format it!
it must be work
Your idea doesnt work

Maybe the ROM doesnt have the necessary drivers. Any idea on how to install them?
Go to following directory via a root explorer app:
Root/system /bin
Find this file:
Fsck_msdos
Delete & Replace with froyopro's disk checker.(same file in froyopro rom)
Yes,this is the file which scan & fix ur sdcard For errors in startup.
This must help u.

Please help! Internal SD card broken!

I was using the SP2 by Topogigi and I've just flashed the "progmaq-default-cm-10-20121105" through NVflash. After that, my internal SD card cannot be detected anymore(broken?)!!! Subsequently I flashed "ROM_OptiICS-v0.4_LGP990_CWM-v6_v28G-based_NVflash" then flashed NVflash version of V20M, but the problem remains! Who can help?
or it's time to buy another phone? :crying: I've been using this phone for more than one year and I really don't want to change it if the problem is actually solvable.
flash another NVFlash rom like stefan goodbye rom v20.r..

Try to install your country specific stock rom from below link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041
It happened to me today. I just installed a stock rom and when the message of broken sdcard appeared, I just formatted the card. Everything on now.
had this problem as well. The Problem for me was that most NVFlash scripts used don't create a filesystem on the internal SD Card. Since the size of the internal SD card is changed when applying a new layout it is "broken"(read: unmountable) if you don't do anything about it.
Find out which memory block represents your Internal SD Card (on GB it was /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 but I'm not sure right now if its the same on ICS) open a terminal on the device or through adb shell and use
Code:
mkdosfs -F 32 /dev/block/mmcblk0pX
BEWARE: This will format your internal SD Card, all contents will be lost (which, when your cards file system is broken doesn't really matter I guess)
Thank all of you Finally I flashed Stefan's stock ics through NVflash and the internal SD card works again.
