[Q] Wifi auto-connect issues on cm7-apocalypse-final? - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every time I try to turn on Wifi, I have to go Settings > Wireless & network > Wifi Settings > Turn On, because the Wifi button in the status bar doesn't not auto connect, even though it turns on (it just keeps searching).
Any ideas to fix this?

I have this same issue on cm 7.2 democracy and I notice that it does take a longer time to coonect thru the power control widget or the status bar. What I do is I wait for about 30 seconds and it connects.

That's quite the same with what happens to me. Sometime it takes long, sometimes it doesn't connect all.
I hope somebody knows how to fix this.

Possible work around for WiFi connection cycling from Boot and sleep....

For those having the constant cycling of the wifi after coming out of sleep or reboot, try this workaround.
Boot or wakeup Nook.
Enable wifi (any method)
Go to Google maps
(don't worry if the map isn't showing yet)
sweep to an area of the map you haven't been before
zoom in several times.....
wait up to 10 seconds....
Hey look the wifi connected and is stable.....
turn off maps...
I have been using this workaround for three weeks now and it works every time and I don't know why this works, but it seems that having an app drawing data seems to break the wifi out of its cycle loop.

and this statusbar hack...

Happened to me once. I just turned off wifi, then turned it back on.
I also set wifi not to turn off with the screen. I turn it off manually.
And something I noticed in the last few days is that the wireless is really prone to this problem if you use the advanced settings to toggle wireless off when the screen blanks. I currently have tasker set up to turn off wireless when the screen is off and that doesn't give me any problems. I've been doing this for weeks on the recent cm7 nightlies without a problem

You should've just put that in the title, that you have Nookie Foryo 0.6.8 running Brian's status bar hack.
But thanks for the suggestion. Will give it a go.
There is an app in the market called waketimer that does this also.

I have the wifi cycling issues coming out of sleep with my Froyo Nookie 0.6.8 too.
The work around I found was just to hold the power button until the shutdown menu appears. Do nothing and in about 15-30 seconds I see the wifi connect on the status bar, then I cancel the shutdown menu.
After autonooter3, I'm having the same issue for the first time ever on this device, on rare occasion the wifi won't startup. I downloaded/installed a free app called "Auto WiFi Toggle" and I haven't see the issue surface since.
Could any of you folks let me know if this little app may have solved the problem, or is it just sporatic luck.

Wi-Fi sleep fix

Alright, I know some have had an issue with their Wi-Fi sleeping when the screen turns off. There is an easy fix to this issue...
From the home screen press menu the go to settings, from there go to wireless settings and press menu, go to advanced, you will see Wi-Fi sleep policy, change to Never.
Now you will stay connected to Wi-Fi when your screen turns off.

Great find m8. *thumbs up*
Vote for a Sticky.
I so wish that was the fix I was looking for. My Wifi goes in and out with the screen off, and sometimes even on, DESPITE being Never Sleep. Only since update to 2.2. 1.6 worked fine all the time.

Weird problem with the WIFI connection

I keep losing the WIFI connection after I stop using the phone. If I close the screen of the phone and I came back after a couple of minutes, I see I am not connected anymore to the network.
Sometimes, the phones reconnects after a couple of seconds and sometimes not even after 10 minutes; it's only saying "connecting".
This an odd behaviour, because the previous phones that I've had didn't display this behaviour, of disconecting when I closed the screen.
It's even odder because I flashed a couple of ROMs and the problem doesn't go away.
Any solutions?
P.S. I hope you undertand what've said.
The WiFi automatically turns off when the screen turns off.
Just go the WiFi settings, press the menu button and go in "advanced".
Then change "Wifi Sleep Policy".
But I don't know why it stays on "Connecting". This only happens to me when the signal is bad or the network makes you use a proxy like with WiFi hotspots.

Hahahaha
I didn't have this problem at the previous phones becaue that option was always to not turn off the wifi when phone goes to sleep.
Thank you Chris.

[Q] wifi off while screen is off

Hello xda community,
I have a small problem.
Everytime i turn the screen off my p880 is disconnecting With WiFi. When screen is off, i cant get WhatsApp or facebook notifications because there is no wifi. When i turn screen on again, it connects with wifi automatically, and after 3-5 seconds i get all notifications which i should have get when screen was off.
I have tested this on a lot of wifi 'servers'. Everywhere the same Problem.
My p880 [gsm] is only rooted, nothing flashed or something.
So how can i solve This Problem? Do i have to flash kdz files or what can i do?
Thx for your help

Under the Wi-Fi Settings, make sure that 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep' is ticked, just like on every Android device I've ever seen.
If you can't find the settings: On the wifi settings page, press menu button and select the menu.

[Q] Wifi/3G not connected whilst phone is in 'sleep'

Okay. I noticed today that when pressed the power button to wake my phone from sleep the wifi or 3g (depending on where i was and what I was connected to, ie home or away) icon was not showing and thus indicating that it wasn't connected. Hmm, I thought it was odd, maybe it was a display error. But I then noticed that my emails and gmails all came through a few seconds after I unlocked the phone (and the connection icon appeared) and that they had all been sent whilst the phone was asleep. So, it seems to me that the phone is disconnecting from any data source when it goes into sleep mode. Now, I am right in thinking that the whole point of push notifications or setting your email to sync every 5 minutes is that the phone will remain connected even whilst asleep, and then wake up (briefly even) when it picks up an email?
I had no power saver on, no smart sync, wifi set to never sleep. Is this normal? It's pretty important that I get my emails as and when they sent to me. Any advice would be great. I am wondering if it's a bug, and whether I need to take to the phone back to exchange for another one?
Info: not rooted, stock rom software no. 1.28.61.7, kernal 3.4.10-gddcfb8c [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT, carrier EE (UK).
Cheers
you're sure power saver in the top menu wasn't on? because that's what it does, turns off wifi and data when the screen is off for an expended period.
maybe cycle it on and off a couple of times and see if the problem persists...

No, isn't normal.
So, can you upgrade to the latest firmware and, maybe, do a full wipe?
Did you install some app for battery?
And check that your power saver isn't on...
Check under power, setting that sleep mode is off. That on by default on mine. It turns data off after extended screen of time and doesn't require the power save to be activated.

Hmm, no additional battery apps, power saving toggled and definitely off (I purposefully turned it off because of it's data management policy), and sleep mode set to off.
So, I'm right in thinking that you/others actually get notifications then? and wifi/3g is working fine? Looks like it's a return and hope that the next one works (I only got the phone 7days ago). My software update says no updates available, though this is likely to be EE fault. If I can get the shop to exchange I might just do that. Ho hum, another 3 hours setting the thing up again then...
It seems to be a Wifi switching itself off problem...

So, a quick update in case anyone else is having this problem.
I reset the phone to see if it would make a difference and it kind of has. Now I have noticed that if I am using mobile data it's fine. Things are pushed, notifications come through. But if I use Wifi it's a different matter.
it seems that with Wifi on and connected then it works for around 15 minutes when the phone is sleeping (I have done a few tests). After this it seems to shut wifi down and hence no notifications. So it would seem to me that although Power Saving is set to OFF, and Sleep mode (ie no data in sleep) is set to OFF, the phone is still disconnecting from WIfi regardless of the settings. Which is a bit frustrating as I don't want to be connected to the mobile network all the time, especially at home, but still want to know if I receive emails.
Anyone else experienced this Wifi switching itself off issue (and then switching itself on as soon as you manually wake the phone?)? I have to decide whether to return the phone for a replacement or not. If this is a wide ranging issue it might not be worth it - though I'd have thought a simply thing, like keeping wifi on at all times wouldn't be hard to make sure it worked.
there are a few apps available on the play store such as "keep wifi alive" which might do the trick.

Okay, now I feel a bit of Doughnut! I think I've found out what was causing this. So, even though I had Power Saver OFF, Smartsync OFF, Sleep Mode (disconnect data whilst sleep) OFF, I hadn't had a proper look in the Wifi settings, and under Advanced I found:
Advanced>Keep Wifi on during Sleep. This hadn't been set to Always and was set to 'Only when plugged in'. So, changed to 'Always' and now it seems to work (and that would explain why I got emails through the night when charging).
So, apart from feeling a little red-faced for not exploring every single menu available, I am happy it (seems) sorted. If anyone has wifi dropping whilst phone is sleeping it seems there are four steps:
SmartSync = OFF [in Mail app]
Power Saver = OFF [in status bar and Power Settings]
Sleep Mode = OFF [in Power Settings]
Keep Wifi on during Sleep = Always [in Wifi>Advanced Settings]
Hopefully this'll help anyone else who has been having a bit of prolonged blond moment with the phone settings. {retreats to corner}

I have similar problem. Even when I have everything OFF as you suggest, I get disconnected a second after screen goes off. When I turn phone back on, I can see that wifi is on, but all aps are off and wont connect again. I have to turn wifi off and on and applications like skype go again online. I have this problem at home and also at work on corporate network. I have even tried apps that should keep wifi on, but with no change.
Interesting is that after the phone goes to sleep mode, I can see that speed of wifi is changing on phone. The phone actualy stays connected to wifi, but doesn't send or receive data.
The router at home is TP-Link 1043ND with DD-WRT (flashed to last firmware to see if it fixes this problem). I'm not sure what brand and type are corporate APs, but could be some cisco or similar.
Any advice what else I could try?
