Hi so yesterday i bought a G1 off craigslist for only $100 and guess it was too good to be true.. i came home and tried putting my sim card into it and it wouldn't read the sim card. It says no sim card in the phone. I also tried a few other people's sim cards and same thing. Any help please?
It might just be the phone, but did the seller tell you if anything was wrong with the phone at all?
est b4 u buy, only advise: grab a loaded hunting rifle and track down the **** meat that sold you the fone and put the barrel in his mouth and make him either cash u back or fix the phone
Well they did say that the battery exploded a few months ago , so the battery slot is kinda messy.
Hello,
Some days are better than others...
I managed to break several of the small metal pins in the sim reader, don't ask me how but I did it =(
I unmounted the phone and it's really just a small circuit board linked to the motherboard with a single ribbon
I have googled for where to find this spare part but no chance so far
Would you know where I could find this part and help me revive my Nexus S ?
Thanks for your help
Thanks for deleting my useless post : just found out a link in the post below !
Sorry =(
Did you find a solution ? My sim card reader (or sim card tray) is broken too and I can't find the replacement part to buy...
Couldn't you guys just do a warranty claim? It shouldn't break that easily unless you were messing with it.
I can't claim warranty since it's "customer induced damage" : needed to insert my sim card into an Ipad. Not willing to lose my micro sim adapter, I put it in the Nexus S without a sim in an tore the pins when taking it out
Moreover, I live in Europe and Samsung has after-sales per region, if not country. they would'nt accept an US purchased handset anyway.
Didn't find any trace of this spare part on any other site but globaldirectpart and it's still showing as "Coming soon"....
I am in Brazil and the phone hasn't arrived in here so Samsung Brasil don't touch it.... despite the fact that they are going to say that this is not covered by warranty.
I did not find anywhere else too...
How about insurance then? But I'm assuming you don't have that either or can't.
Good luck to finding the part though. Globaldirectpart seems to have a tendency of inflating price.

Don't have any insurance for my phones and it wouldn't work either cos I damaged the phone myself =)
I don't really mind the price since it would cost me about 50 euros including shipping due to the exchange rate between $ and €. Just missing my phone a lot and tired of waiting =)

here goes the replacement part right here but they are out of stock for now

Thanks but we've known that for weeks =)
The best part is the "Coming soon" !!!
Yep! We still waiting for the replacement part to be available... I read about a guy that replaced it with a Galaxy S part... but I did not figure out how.
I called a few suppliers in Asia but no luck so far
it's killing me to have my Nexus S in a drawer for a 10 bucks spare part =(
Yes, me too... that's why I love Apple and my iPhone... Samsung sucks... If I find it anywhere I will post it. I will try to find some more information about replacing it with Galaxy S part.
Do you have any link about this guy using the Galaxy S tray ?
update
Anyone have an update on this? I just broke one of the pins inside the sim tray as well....I am unable to find the parts anywhere online. This is driving me nuts....I'll even pay to repair it!
How did you break yours? I can see the op breaking his with an empty micro sim adapter, but if this is breaking from normal usage, that's not good..
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Not yet. I've read that it is possible to replace it with the Galaxy S sim tray. I've bought one and I am waiting it to arrive. I should have it in one week.
It seems that this sim tray is not good at all...
Bad News! The Galaxy S connector is different from the Nexus S one. Look at the picture:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I believe that the guy who changed it, changed only the sim part, keeping the "sim board" the same... I don't know how to do it, I will try to find out, if anyone know, please help me.
if you read the post carefully, the guy did say sim tray, you can use most sim tray, as long as the pins are position 3+3 at each sides, but you must know how to solder/desolder.
Do you know how do I do it ? I know how to solder/desolder, but I don't know exactly what should I do.
Here is a picture of the Galaxy S Sim Tray. Should I desolder this points marked by the red arrow (and off course in the oposite side) and sold it to the Nexus S board ? Is the sim tray just fixed by this solded points ?
Does anyone know of a dual SIM that fits in and works with GT-I9000 ???
PS : it's dangerous ? could it break my phone ?

Never heard of it before, where did you found that info?
There are several, but the one I'm most acquainted with it's the Simore one.
Not exactly cheap but certainly does the job, no hassles except cutting the SIM cards.
There's really no risk to it. At worst there may be some bad results in case you don't do the cuts well.
I got a 28th gen magicsim cut off a reputable seller on ebay. Had no problems on this phone or my htc desire. Only £19.99 including shipping too. Give me a shout if you want pointing in the right direction.
Would just like to add concerning Rhousman's reply that while the MagicSIM stuff is all in all a cheaper, more interesting solution, it is not guaranteed to work whereas the Simore dual-SIM adapter and similar will 99% be compatible with whatever SIM cards your throw in there.
The advantage of stuff like MagicSIM is that you can dump the information of several cards (like up to 16) into one common SIM, but you have to be able to read and decrypt the information from your original SIMs. From personal experience with a handful of SIMs, I was only able to decrypt one.
Success rate will depend what kind of SIMs are used in your country.
Completely disagree with cmdr001 i use magicsim on all sorts of phones and SIM's (my brother owns a phone shop and sometimes customers want this function). Probably got about 16 of them by now and never had issues with any sims or with the product itself.
Also your description of what magicsim does is strange. I think you're getting it confused with another product?
The story is that my SIM/SD-CARD board went due to water damage some 8 months or so ago.
I sent it to a distributor that supports HTC products but they said the N1 was not a product on their list.
I am thinking rather than having this brick that can't read SIM or SD-Cards, I would prefer it working and give it to my child. I know both the mic and phone listening points work.
So I am wondering if I can tell the HTC distributors to replace the SIM/SD-CARD board on my N1 with an HTC Desire one (which they support) at my own risk if it does not work? I know the phones have similarities. But is this board one of them?
In the meanwhile I am getting myself ready for a DIY by looking at ifixit.com.
edit - that must be some of the worst threat title work

I have a question for anyone on the forum who has experience repairing HTC HD7 handsets.
I recently bought a HTC HD7 on ebay with a "storage card error," message thinking I could easily repair it re-seating or replacing the SD card and doing a hard reset. By swapping out parts from another HTC HD7 I had, I was able to diagnose the problem as a faulty SD card reader. The SPL bootloader would read "SD SANDISK 15193MB" when the working reader was connected, and "SD NONE" when the defective reader was connected using the same card. The SIM card reader worked in both cases.
I ordered a SIM/SD reader assembly replacement from an ebay seller, I installed it, and it acted just as the defective reader I already had... SIM works, SD card doesn't. I got a replacement from the same seller, and it acts exactly the same.
Just wondering if I'm overlooking something, or if it's possible I got two SIM/SD reader assemblies where the SD card reader is the defective component on both.
The reader was sold as for the HTC HD7 T9292 (mine is the T-Mobile US version.) There is a slight difference in the labeling. The replacements had extra text "myd" on them, and had a number 1045 on them instead of the original 1041.
have you tested the sd? all that you have written sounds like a defective sd, have you tried another sandisk on it? even a 2GB would do... also do you have a nokia E series to format and recovery the microsd? I use a E63 to recover the miscrosd used on wp, and test them on windows...

Your bootloader version needs to be 5.xx or higher

I have tested it with a couple different SD cards. As I said, it works with my other SIM/SD reader assembly that I swapped out from another working HD7, it just doesn't work with the replacement part ones I ordered.

Can you explain this? I'm using the latest deepshining ROM on this phone, so the bootloader has never been above version 3.1.2250. I'm willing to go stock WP7.8 with the version 5.xx bootloader if you think it will help the situation, but I did get the SD card to work under HSPL 3.1.2250 and a swapped-out SIM/SD reader assembly. At this point I'm just considering buying a horrible condition HD7 to swap out the SIM/SD reader assembly, since the replacement part ones I ordered don't seem to work.
The bootloader thing is BS, I have had 4 different bootloader on both of my devices: 1.x, 3.x, 4.x and 5.x; , I stayed with the 3.x, for the custom roms...
Now, if you have tested the reader from another HD7 and works fine, then the part you bought is damaged...
From where you bought that part?
You must buy again because the "replacement" is damaged (DOA)...
Regards

The problem is, I bought one, found it not to be working, and asked the seller for a replacement, which they sent for free. When I found the second one not to be working, I began to assume the problem was with me... that I was overlooking some logical thing that was keeping the part from working correctly. While I understand it's possible I may have received two defective parts, I hate to ask the seller for a third one, when it's possible I really don't know what I'm doing
This was the item
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151015786511
Anyway, I ordered a cracked-screen HD7 for cheap which I'm going to scrap for parts. Hopefully that one will work.
have you tested the replacements on the working phone? the good one? I assume: YES.
If the the answer is that, you knock me out! Just my 2 cents: I have the T-Mobile HD7, but that bastard can't work with 850 and 900 MHz GSM networks, only 1900 and (possibly) 1800MHz, it keeps resetting or freezing!!!
I thought that it was the microSD, but no it wasn't, so it's the radio card(the shielded one)
Some time you receive a rotten egg
like what happened to me...
Hope you figure out the solution... Regards.
