Hi all
Using HTC Desire HD (rooted).
I have tried all applications that are on google play (ex market) that support smb and cifs, but could not connect to my NAS that is wired on my LAN. Every smb connection to NAS results as java.lang.nullPointerException....
I can connect to NAS from every computer from my LAN (Win, Linux, Mac), and all is working as expected ...
Can someone pls help me?
Thnx in advance
kind regards
anyone?

I'm looking for a way to monitor my webcam from my phone. This webcam is USB connected to my PC. Currently I have Windows Media Encoder running and it works perfectly. From work I can open windows media player and point it to http://"IP ADDY":"port" and it works. Now how am I going to get this on my phone?
I do have the port forwarded in my router. Not that much of a newb.
good question ive been wanting to know this for a while myslef.
I don't believe the G1 will stream a Windows Media stream (heck it won't play a WMV file). You'll have to stream using a different format. If I remember correctly (and I might not), Orb offers webcam streaming that can be used with the Android Orb app.
try IP cam viewer, it might be compatible with your camera

goto market and search 'webcam' - you'll see 'IP cam viewer' by Robert Chou. It works with many many commercial webcams and the dev is the best at responding to questions and requests.
It seems Andromote is the only way of streaming mp3 playlists from my PC to my Hero.
I have set up media sharing on my PC with both foobar2000 and WMP11, and and a laptop with WMP11. My PC and laptop can see each other's media servers, but I can't find them using Andromote?
Any thing I can try to figure out what's going wrong?
Hi I wonder if its possible to stream music from my nas via smb and vpn? Also have a ftp server on it. I know some software that can do this on pc so it should not be impossible

I think you cannot STREAM using FTP, FTP is for File Transfer. There is already an App for that. download ES File Explorer
or give this a try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756158
Most NAS devices use Linux, and so try to find out more details about it.
In fact, the QNAP ones even come with Twonkyserver, and if yours runs linux, it might be possible to run it on yours too.
I have been wondering what kind of setup for home networking and media access people use, as they have been trying to build one of my own and I would interested in other ideas on how to improve it or what alternatives people are using.
This is what I came up so far:
Router: Linksys WRT320N
WiFi, Local Network
DynDNS to have fixed address for dynamic IP
Central Storage / Media server: QNAP 219p
runs Samba/NFS shares,
UPnP server
Download station (http/torrent)
controlled through web interface
bonus: low power consumption
Media Player: TV + WD TV Live Box.
WD TV has DLNA, UPnP connectivity and can access network shares.
WD can also be flashed for custom firmware WDLXTV, that has a few extra options like streaming apple trailers, Revision 5, etc right to your TV.
Media Player: Ubuntu PC + notebook/Windows Notebook.
automount several shares from QNAP
runs XBMC to access QNAP UPnP for media streaming
Mobile: Desire HD
Qmobile to stream my QNAP media (wifi or 3g) - it is developed by QNAP themselved, but they still have a lot of room for improvement.
PCFileSync - I have setup a special share on QNAP, that syncs with my Android device with PCFileSync. The app itself is launched by Tasker whenever the phone connects to my home SSID. Unfortunatelly it does not autokill, once I leave my network, as Kill does not work on Froyo. (I am hoping for PCFileSync tasker plugin)
The phone can see the WD TV DLNA service and I can stream any video from the phone right to my WD TV as long as the HTC media player can play it (this is somewhat limiting to mp4 I guess)
Tasker to check location, turn wifi on/off and connect me to my home server
Astro file manager to access samba shares
TwonkyMedia Server to create another UPnP server from my phone, but desires DLNA now took over the Twonky functions.
Andromote to control UPnP device like WD TV Live - not very reliable for now, cannot really build playlist etc.
TODO list:
Better remote control WD TV Live from Android. Andromote more or less works on a good day, but I am looking for a more reliable alternative. WDLXTV has a Webinterface, so that maybe one way of doing it.
OpenVPN service running on my router. I have a vague idea this should be possible by flashing a custom firmware to the router, but I did not have the courage a time to start fiddling with it. But a lot of media streaming like UPnP work only on local network, so to get it running truly mobile, I guess needs to be done.
X10/Insteon Home Automation - still exploring what kind of solution to choose. X10 with Heyu linux libraries should run on QNAP as it runs linux itself, but I cannot find the CM11E module on sale anywhere and the newer CM15Pro does not seem to work with linux. And I do not really want to set up another home server. Any tips or suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks for you tips and suggestions.

If available you can install Plex Server ( not the client!) On your Mac and the client on your tablet. Should work that way.

Mxplayer might work too
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Serviio or XBMC on the computer, BubbleUPNP + MXPlayer on the tablet/phone. XBMC has builds for Mac, but it might be a bit overkill if you just want streaming, Serviio is written in Java, but you need to name your files more carefully for Serviio to find the correct names on tmdb/tvdb databases (FileBot is a great help for this).

For me BS Player has the best performance and it can stream for network shares directly, just share the folder on your mac and bs player should see them on your LAN. Don't forget to install the codec pack too.
i have bs player installed and shared a folder on mac, but its not showing on bs player
do i need to add ip address or anything, how do i do that?

Maybe you need to use the same username and password that you use on your macbook, I don't have access to an Apple computer to test unfortunatly, mabe there is something special you need to do for samba shares to work like in Windows.
