Hi,
Unfortunatelly I started playing with my I9000 without reading enough and bricked my phone completely (?). If anyone can help please do so.
Description:
1. I tried to flash with Odin new firmware but after flasing and rebooting got message "unable to update media ...." (or something like that) When powering on I got only welcoem screen with phone name
2. I wanted to repeat flashing but Odin could not start reflashing (I still could go into Download mode)
3. I found at xda forum [STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader,
but I didn't notice that it was for Captivate (I thought it is just another name for I9000,now I don't know why)
4. I reflashed my i9000 and after reflashing got only At&t screen turning on and off, without possibility to enter into download mode.
Actually I'm stuck with this situation I feel really stupid, but by mistake I did what I did.
Is there any chance to help ?

according to some users, you might get lucky, and might be able to recover
let your phone stay on on that loop, wait until it turns itself off
then try the 3 button combo again
if all else fail, contact samsung tech support, which will simply send you back to your cell phone place
I'll try but I'm not very optimistic
Waiting doesn't help - I tiried all possible 3 or 2 button configurations unsuccesfully.
Anyone has any other idea if antyhing can be done with the issue ?
The exact same thing happened to me. There is nothing you can do except to bring it back to Samsung. I brought mine back and they have to replace the whole motherboard

I told them my phone cannot boot. Can they help to reflash the FW and see if it helps. They did and said phone still cannot boot after reflashing. Hence they have to change the motherboard. I asked and they say it's under warranty...
The shop where I had bought my I9000 sent it to Samsung - I will see what they do with it.
I have flashed a vibrant with a i9000S software but the radio did not work quite well. Since the two have different keys, now i cant get it to boot mode. i was able to get into recovery mode via ADB but all i can do is use vol to go up or down and not select an option. the device wont even get out of recovery mode.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I did the exact same thing and couldnt get it to go past the AT&T logo i took mine to the samsung authorised repair centre and after 3 days and 49 dollars they fixed it. I dont know how they did it because i couldnt get USB to reconginise or download mode or anything just stuck on white screen but they managed to get it up and running.
So even though it cost 49 dollars to fix it via software method it is better then spending 800 on a new phone or 300 for a new chip which they originaly qouted me. So there is hope with proffessional services
now, the magic usb plug is avaliable in ebay, it can turn your bricked phone into download mode in a few seconds. really good!!!

I am from INDIA, few months back I got a Samsung Captivate , Till now i tried FIREFLY and CM7 ROMs . The first time flash i did it with ODIN i guess i did it with a wrong firmware ,So was stuck with AT&T screen boot loop issue. Searching the forums and found JIG may help and so made a JIG (as i can't get one here) . and recovered my phone and flashed stock and then FIREFLY and 2 weeks back i flashed CM7 for getting Gingerbread and not likeing the UI of the ROM tried to switch back to stock and then customize on my own.
So When i tried flashing Stock the installation was success the screen stuck few moments on AT&T logo and i thought it would go off, But as i was very eager to get my phone online again i pulled of the battery to restart manually (Which i dont think was nice idea ) Now the screen remains black even i use the JIG to get into download mode. But the phone heats UP when i plug it for charging on computer or directly to switch

I have the same issue. I was tryint to load Cognition and it just gets stuck on the ATT screen but I haven't tried a jig yet. I was wondering if I can replace the files on the phone with good files that aren't corrupted and see if it boots up because droid explorere can still pick up the phone and so does Odin but when I do a master reset nothing happens.
@rajasekhar - Have you tried: Removing all parts (battery, sim, sd) let it sit for a few min (my preference is around 10 min to insure no residual power is left in the system) then hold the jig in place and putting the battery back in? Keeping the jig in place, so that as soon as the device gets power it is immediately seeing the jig, before it can try any other processes.
A bit difficult to do with hand made jigs I know. If you still getting nothing then your in for the worst and the phone need a JTAG or service center visit.
Tho it sounds a little odd that it could boot up to seeing the AT&T logo, but does not respond to the jig. Might even be a hardware problem.
@i3oots - Since you say your still getting PC response your safe to try and reflash it or just pick something different altogether. Tho you might wanna let ODIN settle and just sit there doing nothing for a few min, w/o then w/ the phone plugged in. Or learn about Heimdall and go that route.
Would I be able to flash it even though it get's stuck on the ATT screen? It won't go into download mode. I'll look on the forums how to flash it too. I'm a newb at this which is why I bricked it but everyone has to start somewhere lol.

You have probably Hard Bricked your phone. A JIG will not work to recover the phone. If the phone has any life at all, then the JIG will work. Else, u hard bricked it...you should never remove the usb cable when flashing bootloaders or odin or anything!
the only solution is to get a JTAG which can recover hard bricks OR you can go to a warranty store (don't know about india) and make up a sob story and have them replace it..

Does your computer recognize the phone? If odin is open, does the box turn yellow when you connect your phone? Make sure you have the right drivers. I think cm7 and captivate drivers are different. Keep trying with the jig. Just because you can't see anything on the screen doesn't mean the phone is dead.

If your phone is booting up far enough to send out USB info for ODIN and other PC programs to see it, then your still in a workable condition. This also means you can still get into download mode, but since things arn't working properly it will be harder. Depending on which bootloaders your phone has will direct which methods you'll have to try out to get into download mode.
AFTER you've had a chance to look around the forum and self-educate on the different ways of getting into download mode. If your still having problems give us a lil more info of what you were running before the flash and to which version of Cog you were trying to flash.
Did anything worked for you, if not only a jtag can help you looks like u hard bricked the phone.

Went for a samsung service centre they said they wont handle other country products of samsung. Just yesterday went to the local Cell phone Repair store , He said like he would try using a Ctool box they have for installin onto the rom directly. So i thought why not Give a shot to it ...
That store guy raised another question in me . Yesterday after giving it in the morning he said to call in the evening . I did so and he said the Phone is booting on the Ctool but it is sometimes throwing error . I dint get his intention in saying so . have to go to him today

I thought I was bricked also ...HARD BRICKED......no buttons no nothing ...tried odin on, phone plugged in, and hold down volume up and down and reinstall batt......nothing worked.......but this... it worked for me........ok first of all remember this will be a bit tricky because you will have to keep the volume keys pressed the whole time till you have download mode......should also have full batt......take out the sim and any flash cards you may have in the phone and the batt.....set the phone down and watch a couple hours of tv or try to brick your buddies phone so he can feel your pain...lol something.....ok now after your tv show has gone off turn on your computer and start up odin one click to stock.... put just the batt in the phone.....if your friend is still there you should try this with 100% batt.... use his phone to charge your batt.....any way put the batt in the phone....plug the usb cable into your computer......now for the tricky part .......press down the volume up and down now and do not let them go till the end of this and you should have download mode.......now plug in the usb to your phone IF YOU HAPPEN TO GET DL MODE HERE THEN GO AHEAD AND LET GO OF THE VOLUME BUTTONS AND FLASH YOUR PHONE ....if not... KEEP THE BUTTONS PRESSED.......now take the batt out of the phone.....keep them pressed......unplug your usb cable......keep them pressed.... restart odin...... keep them pressed....plug your usb cable back in.......keep them pressed... re-install the batt.....you should get download mode.......remember you have to keep them pressed... JUST... the volume up and down pressed through the whole process nothing else....This worked for me and I was dead bricked no nothing from any of the keys no nothing..... I DIDNT INVENT THIS METHOD I READ IT ON HERE SOMEWHERE AND CANT FIND IT AGAIN......It did work for me when nothing else did.....so if the person that posted it reads this THANK YOU...... ................................................. If you just wanna know a bit about the process ask this guy. He is pretty much the only person in the US (I know not all to useful to a person in India) that does JTAG for the cappy.
I can tell you this much, it requires a special device called a Riff box and it sends boot info directly to the chip on the main/mother board that is used for the booting process.
Somewhere I've seen a site that listed info of ppl around the world that will JTAG, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Hope it helps I wish I could find the original post again to thank the guy that told me how to do it. I had sent that phone back to att and the promptly sent it back and told me the water dammage sticker in the bat compartment was missing and they wanted to charge me 409 bucks for the phone ....long story short it was there when I sent it and I told them to go pound sand up their ass because I wasnt paying them that much and ended up paying 125 bucks for a paper weight.So that is when I decided to have it jtaged but figured I would give it one more shot before mailing it off. That was when I found the post from that person and low and behold it worked........................... I hate to say this but I may have got the last two instructions backward you may have to put the batt in before plugging in the usb cable.......Like I said I cat find the original post

Forgot to mention
I Missed to explain my flashing procedure i have done this time . Like I never tried flash a boot file along and so was reading some threads about boot loader variations between FROYO and GINGERBREAD so i tried flashing ablong with boot loader and then I got the stock gingerbread file i put the boot loader SBL in heimdall Firstboot loader path .And Boom the first reboot got stuck and i removed the battery and then again when i tried to restart the phone is dead
Thinking this might have where the whole thing went wrong and made the cell dead .
[Q]Galaxy Ace Hard Brick by flashing s5830i ROM on s5830.
so my Questions are:
- Will Jig USB work on it?
- what will Samsung Service Center cost/charge?? As mobile was import from other country & its warranty ended 3 months ago also.
- A shop does offer JTag service & its listed on http://www.jtagbox.com/category/jtag-dealers/ how much should i pay them for it??
How it got Bricked?
- by mistake flashed s5830i ROM Retribution beta 4 on s5830
- when selected Restart after Installation Completed, cell phone never turned back On again.

I did the same thing to my first phone...flashing a rom while i was tried..didnt see the i...duh.. luckily I got a replacement for free from koodo cause i was within 14 days. Not sure if it can be fixed by the service center or the cost but it is definitely hard bricked. Sorry.
Sadly to say, it is hard brick. I did the same on my phone once, flashed with S5830i and that was it, i tried Odin method, jib USB but it never even turned on. Luckily my warranty was still on course and the phone center never made it to turn on again, so they replaced the motherboard for a new one and it worked. I never tried the riff jtag but i've heard is the only method to bring a phone to life after hard brick. Good luck

Just go to service center act all nooby and tell them I was using the phone and suddenly it switched off and did not switch on again
They will never be able to figure out it was rooted or anything

i got it fixed, got it JTag install for Rs1000 in Lahore, Pakistan.
my warranty ended few months ago.
Help! I installed the wrong custom rom on my phone, I installed the s5830i icedroid rom on my s5830, curiously thinking it might go into a boot loop at worst but I was horribly wrong. As soon as I pressed reboot now on cwm my phone blacked out and never lighted on again. I can get it in download mode, it shows in Odin but it gets stuck in setup connection. Is there a software or something to revive the phone, I can't hand it in to samsung cause I purchased it off ebay and they want a receipt which the original owner doesn't have, or should I try a jig. What do you think guys? This phone is nearly brand new and don't want it going to waste.

i think buddy you should use usb jig
Usb jig wont help... Nothing will help the only solution to this problem is jtagging....
Well samsung took my phone in luckily under warrenty so I should receive my phone back soon

I have managed to delete the whole OS without backup and custom recovery. I also deleted the single launcher I had on my previous device. Tell me your biggest blooper you spent hours fixing.
When I was 11 yo, I saw "fastboot mode started" after a badly flashed ROM, I've decided to reflash the whole phone, which ended up in a fully bricked NAND Flash, being the partition table corrupted.

I messed up real bad with my first Moto G. This was the time when Kikat 4.4.4 OTA came out and I should have checked the forums before updating anything(from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4) and needless to say, I had hard bricked my phone due to OTAs reacting violently with unlocked bootloaders. What's worst that my bootloader was unlocked I knew there was no way I was getting a replacement device but somehow I had fooled the warranty centre, because they couldn't boot to fastboot mode to check warranty status and in fact second they couldn't boot it at all so I got a freaking replacement device.

I think the worst I've done is forget to move a zip to my card before a reflash on a phone, meaning that I did a full wipe and RSD to a specific firmware then didn't have the ROM version that I needed for it. Led to yet another RSD session back to stock, getting the zip to the SD, then RSD again, then flashing the ROM.
Not too bad really, just time consuming.
My biggest mistake was buying a Samsung phone.

Don't worry. We all reach that point where we just give up on Samsung phones, because let's face it, Samsung is only worth it when you buy NOT low budget phones.

I told a guy I could update his rooted Kindle Fire HD. Ended up formatting the whole thing wiping the current rom, the backup and the zip I was about to flash. Tried for days and even rang in sick to work to get it working. In the end I ended up buying him a new iPad mini. Next day I sideloaded a rom on the damn thing!
Truth be told, I've still got it and it's a damn awesome little tablet.

hehe, what a story, 4 years ago, when i was 13,5 years old. It was the first time a had an android(s7562) phone, as i had only symbian(n97) (i had some experiences with symbian as i had flashed it with JAF with some better CFWs, curruntly using a CFW made by Omar_Bazaraa).
Then i started learning android with a symbian'ish background(how to install qt? where's pips,sdl?...hhhh).
I did some foolish things, the worst thing i did is that is downgraded it to GB's cm7 (WHILE CM DOESN'T EXIST TO OUR PHONE AT ALL!, I TRIED A FOOLISH WAY TO PORT IT!).
Well, this caused it to no longer boot in recovery, so i stuck in B.L until i reflashed agin.

Trying to unscrew a screw in order to open the phone. The screw was stucked though and I accidently destroyed the display because it was right under it.
Considering it was my first and only phone, I had to spent lots of time without an phone afterwards

The biggest mistake with an android phone i´ve ever made was flashing something to a device from a laptop and forgot to plug in the external power suplly. Exacly in the moment i started flashing a system img the battery from the laptop was down to 10% and it shut off itself. After that the phone was never again able to get a fastboot connection. Luckily twrp was already flashed on the device and so i could use it for more then one year xD
