well the phone should tell you. what i noticed with my atrix hd (the unlocked bell version) is that it will take a little while the first time to pick up tmobile's network. but if it takes more than 5 mins or so then that should be a warning that it isn't unlocked. also maybe a little more info would help like if you checked "about phone" then "status" after it's been on for a little while. that should tell if it's even seeing the network.

Don't you have to setup the APN for your new carrier?

i know that when i reflashed to stock my sim card wasn't being detected until i updated my phone over wi-fi, then it detected it again. also check in the lock screen if it says no sim card detected at the bottom

[Q] Can I use D4 on gsm network?

I use unlocked D3 but this device is 512MB ram also there is no official ICS(no flash reader, no camcorder). If I can use D4 on gsm network, I'll upgrade!
from my DROID3 using xda app-developers app
Yes you can, but currently only with the leaked ICS firmwares. The stock gingerbread firmware does not allow it. Supposedly the official ICS firmware is due in Q3 2012
I made a thread here with instructions on how to do it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766479
Will this work if the droid 4 has a bad ESN?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Should be, the esn is usually used to activate cdma, for gsm you only have to activate a sim card and put it in...

Just take one w/o contract - and that should be enough. No unlock codes was required for me.

Almost the answer I was looking for.
So could someone confirm this:
Bad esn doesn't affect calling via a SIMcard?
I know it's a very old thread, but worth trying..
ESN's and IMEI numbers are used for GSM phones(AT&T, T-Mobile and now Verizon also). MEID numbers are used with CDMA phones(Verizon,Sprint) and just because the phone has ics or jb doesn't mean it's unlocked. You still have to install a different sim card and put in an unlock code which you can get from Verizon if you are with them or pay for it online somewhere. Once the new sim card is installed into phone and the unlock code is entered, the phone will state that your device has been unlocked. Unlocking phones is mainly for overseas use outside of the US. I have much experience with this as I served in the U.S. military for 10 years and I took my old phone over with me. Upon arrival in the new country, you set up cell service with a GSM provider, install their sim card and viola! Hope I could clear this up for you guys! Not trying to sound mean, just informative.
EDIT: Bad ESN's or MEID's can be a bad thing but some can be changed or flashed over with new one's from third party service providers like PagePlus Cellular, etc.

without sim inside, if i press power button the phone say "no sim card, emergency call"
with sim inside, on the screen apear "touch the android to begin", see foto 2. after try to sign in we are in foto 3 situation
So your sim dosent have a data plan then? If this is the case you will need to borrow someone elses just to sign in initally or you need to use adb to bypass the sign in
Sent from my HTC MyTouch 4G Slide using xda premium
lots of work trying to bypass to get into wifi... can't we just install a rom that doesn't go through that procedure?
Sure, thats a great idea, just be sure to root you phone first and then you can start flashing custom roms
Sent from my HTC MyTouch 4G Slide using xda premium
wifi not work, so i can't sign in. but i tried with a sim card from an internet modem, data sim card. i can't sign in, too. what rom can i write on it?
Like i said you need to either 1) find someone who has a simcard with data that works with the carrier the phone is meant to be on (unless phone is sim unlocked than any would work) or 2) use adb to bypass lock screen and turn wifi on.
Once all this is done you can root your phone and then put on one of many custom roms that allow you to bypass startup just by pressing next
Sent from my HTC MyTouch 4G Slide using xda premium
im making a guide for rooting that will cover installing adb and fastboot, you could check it out once im finished ill have the google bypass method in there, youll just need wifi.
Moving to Q&A.
Thank you,

Bell? Taco Bell?
Galaxy S3 and Z both use the same SIM card size. Did you remember to use the SIM card tray on the Z? Also, what makes you think the Z IMEI number is not supported?

I am on the Bell network and it works perfectly but doesn't have LTE only HSPA+. When you figure out the SIM card insert issue, you have to manually put in the APN settings from Bell. Once that is done reboot the phone and there now you have a XZ working on Bell.

[Q] No 4G LTE after SIM error

Hey guys,
I work at Sprint and my technicians and myself cannot figure this out. So I thought I would reach out to you guys!
I had 4G flawlessly on my phone for the first few weeks I had it. One day I got a SIM error that read something like this, "No SIM Card: 4G LTE will not work as SIM/UICC is reinserted". I popped out the little SIM card, wiped it off, and the phone read it and the error went away. Since then I have not had a single connection to 4G LTE.
All of our demo phones are on 4G lte as well as my girlfriends phone at home. I am constantly in 3G or 1X. Any advice would be great
Things I have already tried....
1. Updated profile/prl
2. Reprovisioned phone using ##72786#
3. Toggled settings using *#*#4636#*#*
4. Wiped and installed a new ROM
5. Played around with SIM card slot and rebooting phone
I am going to try a new UICC sim if we have one around the store...if that doesn't work im out of ideas!
I have no suggestions, but I have had the same exact problem the past couple of weeks. I got the error, but I didn't even pop the SIM card out. I just put the phone in airplane mode like I usually did when I got the error. When I took it out of airplane mode, my 4g was gone and it has not come back. I have checked all settings and I can't come up with anything. I also RUU'd back to stock just to make sure. Still no sign of 4g.
Let me know if replacing your sim does the trick, because this has been driving me crazy.
By the way, I know it is the phone and not just sprint messing with the towers or something, because my wife's evo 4g lte is on 4g all the time.

I read somewhere that your SIM ID and your UICC ID have to match, don't know if it's true, but go to settings - about - phone identity to check it out

The phone is rooted. I don't think there are any other radios out for this device yet though. Thanks for your reply though
I'm a Sprint Tech and do not have an answer currently for you guys as I have been receiving this error as well and only just found this thread. Will try to research tomorrow and see if I can find an answer. I only received this message once as of yesterday and it went away seconds later. Tonight it reappeared and is sticking. Under app info it shows this is the Phone app that is sending out this notification. There is a possibility if you force close the app and then disable notifications for it that this error may go away; however, I'm not sure what other notifications we would consequently loose. Current corporate PRL is 55015 and I am running Viper 1.0.3 with stock kernel. I am wondering if this has to do with refreshing your PRL because I did not notice it until I requested it from Updates two days ago even though the actual PRL version number did not change.

Already ran RUU. No dice. Took it to a Sprint store and they replaced the SIM card. Still no dice. I'm starting to think it's the radio itself.

yea that sh!t didnt work at all. this seems really stupid to me that our phone is having this issue what could be causing this why would the sim card mess it up?
Ok so the consensus is, this seems really stupid too but its the only thing I can figure, the SIM is loose. If you eject your HTC One Micro Sim and place a small piece of scotch tape on the reverse side of the connector, this gives the card just enough volume, when reinserted to consistently maintain contact with the reader as the SIM tray is simply too big and is allowing the phone to believe there is actually no SIM card inserted when the connection is detected as broken. Suppose this also explains the inconsistencies in various user experiences since we all have different handling habits. Any one else want to wager to guess why this problem is so intermittent?
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
my friend who works at bb hooked me up with another sim. im taking it to sprint tomorrow and see if they can do anything. my friend said he could swap for a new htc one as well. i would have to pay 30 bones though.

[Q] C6603 not having 4g option (UK)

Hi,
Hoping someone can shed some light on this odd problem I have. I'm on EE in the UK which is at moment our only 4g provider. I smashed my old S3 LTE screen so my girlfriend (Who is on 02) upgraded early to an xperia z, which we were assured is 4g compatible. We had to unlock the phone to work on my network of course.
However, after unlocking I don't have the option to change to 4G in the network menu.
I've checked the following:
The phone is the C6603 model, which I double checked supported the bands and frequencies used by EE
I receive 4g in my area (Used to with old phone)
I checked with 02 that the phone was 4G compatible
However I'm guessing it's been turned off in the software that 03 loaded to customize the phone. I can't for the life of me find any info on the internet on how this is done or reversed, and I'm a little hesitant to flash the ROM as I would be murdered should I brick the thing.
Any ideas? Anything appreciated.
I flashed the Spanish 4.2.2 ftf file onto my UK 3 Z.
That gives me the option to use LTE networks. You might have to do something similar to get yours to pick up a LTE signal.
Did you say the phone was from O2?
Its also a piece of piss to flash ftf files. You don't even have to root or unlock the bootloader.

So better to do what warface suggest.
