Addiction

Damn you XDA. I find myself here several times a day, looking for goodies and news about my favourite phone (LG Revolution) the best freakin phone ever. I have you on my phone now, with a paid app. I just can't get away from you. I may have to take up drinking to pull myself away.
I like this site, because everyone seems knowledgeable. Everyone is nice, when you have an issue, they walk you through it, rather than talk down to you.
Thanks to you all who run this sweet operation. I click "Thanks" every chance I get. Thank you moders, without you our products would just flat out suck. I like the fact, because of groups like ours here, phone makers are more open to letting us open up their devices, and take out what we hate, and put in what we love.

The best app on my phone is XDA lol whether I'm at work or on the tube or wherever I'll check out the forums on a regular basis, some great people on here especially all the helpful devs.

i remember when i didnt have ord.... my girlfriends phone was stock, my phone was stock, i didnt do hardware modifications, ah the memories.

I concur entirely with every post in the thread. There are constantly two or three different XDA tabs open on my browser, so I can switch between and find even more awesome things to do with my phone.
I look forward to being full on ORD soon!

Welcome !

Youl usually will be flamed when:
- posting questions in development and not in Q&A
- starting another thread that's already been posted, discussed and answered 20+ times. Obviously not searching.
- not following directions then bashing the dev for your mistake.
- asking/bugging devs for ETA's
- posting fanboy threads bashing the device in that device forum.
Most of these are general written xda rules. Welcome to the forum. Xda will be your best friend.

LOLOLOL at member friendliness. Mod's and Dev's are usually pretty friendly unless you bug the crap out of them. And you won't get ban hammered unless you go against the forum rules.
You should be fine as long as don't do anything too crazy.

I'm a librarian working at a university, and I'm tired of people (friends, students, general public) thinking that anyone working in a library is a librarian. I don't stamp books, and I don't stop cataloguing work, thank you!
End of rant. Apart from that, I do like my job quite a lot.

Wait, you say you're a librarian but you then say you're tired of people thinking you're a librarian? I'm confused. You could take a leaf out of the Unseen university's librarian's book and turn into an orangutan* then you'd just have people mistaking you for a monkey, but you'd be able to rip their arms off so they'd soon learn.
*I can't believe the iPad doesn't know the word "orangutan" but then, the Librarian does prefer bananas to apples. Oook.

Something's wrong with Off Topic.
Be it double standards, unfair bans, post deletions... whatever...
All members who feel they have something constructive to contribute are welcome.
Let's try and solve these issues once and for all.
This thread started with it's main focus on two incidents that took place yesterday.
As I have repeatedly stated, those incidents are just a symptom of the disease.
Perhaps Off Topic is just a tumor on the face of XDA that needs to be excised.
Perhaps it's a place for people to cool down and fraternize.
But the members posting in OT have felt that something's been going wrong for the post few months.
Maybe that wrongness is an erroneous perception on our part, or maybe there actually is something wrong. We've all been trying to discuss our feelings about that on this thread.
Trying to wash all the dirty laundry once and for all, to resolve all the issues people have had here so that we can go back to our meme-posting ways in peace.
Please feel free to comment on us users too. Like the title says... this is a discussion, and I'd love to hear your side of the story too.

Today's incident isn't the only time users have had issue with this moderator, and the only reason I abandoned the PM I was writing and made this thread was because I felt other members should take part i this discussion as well.

I believe because mods (I'm obviously generalizing here, there are many that don't) think of themselves as a separate group from the rest of "us" and because of their "kinship" they show leniency towards each other.

Banning for use of the word ***** is just stupid anyhow. If you want to say it's a swear word, add it to the filter. Otherwise, if it isn't being used in an abusive or insulting way, let it be.

That's a pretty half-assed avoidance of the subject, plus, a moderator response to a report should be more mature, and at least attempt to use proper grammar. This looks like a 12 year old wrote it, I would expect a higher level of maturity from a mod.

A certain Smod (we all know who it was) made jRi0T68 change his sig because it had asshole in it, a word which isn't censored even today.

Unless something went on behind the scenes, I'm pretty sure cfb mentioned it (actually as an example of the double standards), and Jeremy changed it before any mod took action.

I was wondering the other day and thought, maybe start a thread and ask other users about it. How would you characterize an XDA Stereotype? I'm not thinking about your average Android user or Flashaholic, no, specifically the caricaturized XDA forum member.
Side note: I know, stereotyping can be insulting, so if you feel offended by this I may ask to close it.

I'm not offended. I can say when my friends see me reading xda forums/portals or watching xda developer TV on YouTube, I do get called "Nerdy" or more Commonly "Techy".
The most common stereotype I would say is that most people think I can fix anything electronic. I am the "local tech rep" for my friends and family. Lol.
