Atrix HD Utility 1.00 - Motorola Atrix HD

This is a utility made by mattlgroff. I simply ported it to work with the AT&T Atrix HD. It takes place of RSD Lite, which is good because many people have problems with RSD, you can use it to root your device, and also install OTA Root-Keeper App.
Bell version has not been tested so IF you use this and it is successful let me know. Should not be any problems with it, but would like to know for sure.
Thanks to mattlgroff for the original Utility.
Thanks to the firmware team for the FXZ files.
Thanks to Dan Rosenberg for the root.
Thanks to Voodoo for the OTA Root-Keeper App.
Thanks to ATGAdmin for also porting this lol.

Bell Version (still untested)

Also you are using this at your own risk, I accept no responsibility for any damage you do to your device while using this Utility.
If you have any problems though, do not hesitate to PM me!
*Please remember to have your phone charged to 80% plus when flashing. Read the directions as you flash.*

Which utility? See if you can push it into fastboot and try to reflash, possibly re download to make sure everything flashed correctly!

That error tells me one thing: The fastboot files in that utility were not meant for your phone's carrier / or system version.

AT&T Atrix HD. Trying to use this utility.

When you use RSD, do you flash to 115 or 114?

Yeah this explains it. You need to run the latest AT&T FXZ for the 144 update. The secure version changes from 115 to 144 and this utility is 115. Hoover is working on a 144 one now...
You can run RSD Lite and 144 from here in the meantime.

You can't downgrade to 959 by flashing in fastboot, that will never work. You're going to need to reflash 890 and stay there unless an sbf comes out.
I recommend:
moto-fastboot -w
then hold vol up and down, then hit power. Select AP Fastboot in the menu that comes up. Then start RSDlite (at least 5.4.4) and using the ~.xml.zip 890 that came out a few days ago.
ohh ok..but since the update that will be pushed out is 890 ill be ok with future updates right?
yep, this was the same errors that i got when i tried to downgrade. you need to flash 890 xml

Yes, 890 is the future/present "stock".
Verizon/Moto have nearly got this locked firmware/secure network thing down to a science. I have never seen a device that absolutely had to have a NAND flash just to downgrade. Crazy.
Yeah. But let's look at the bright side, at least we can learn from this stuff and STILL show them we are better.
I wonder who is the genius that came up with the idea of a locked bootloader on an open source phone

These are files that can be used to truly factory restore your phone. If you had a custom rom installed, this would put you back to stock.
You use Motorola's RSD Lite program to flash to your phone while it is in AP Fastboot mode.
This will work on locked bootloaders because they are signed files from Motorola meant for flashing in this way.
EDIT: As Pzyduck says above, these are official firmware not leaks
Don't flash AT&T on Bell or vice versa, you may get trapped because of secure versions.
(btw. I know, it's codenamed qinara, and not dinara, but meh, too lazy to fix it )

On 2 accounts we wouldn't be able to do this.
1) The phone will only take signed images for system in AP Fastboot. There are sig checks on flashing and on boot (we can assume this, we can test more obviously since we have FXZ backups).
I didn't want to test flashing a rooted system dd'd out before because we had no FXZ's to test. Now that we have them it might be worth it to try it out. Worst case use these FXZ.
Rooted system.img: you can get the entire partitions here which includes it: http://crackflasher.com/dev/mattlgroff/MB886.ATT.en.US/AtrixHdPartitions.zip
Be extra careful flashing things you do not have backups for...
2) The system.img.ext4 file inside of these are not only compressed, but appear to be encrypted as well.

If you got 4.0.3 we need a copy of your OS before you upgrade. 4.0.3 has vulnerabilities that we need to get root. Sorry I don't know the procedure, but I am sure some dev will be more than willing to tell you.

yeah, that's why i'm holding out... battery life sucks on the 4.0.3. it barely gets me 8-9 hours with moderate use. i've noticed there are huge drops in the battery level every now and then. i guess i'll just deal with it until we get the root thing sorted out.

How to get your BELL ATRIX HD onto At&t Jellybean (4.1.1) - Unlocked bootloader ONLY!

How to get your BELL ATRIX HD onto At&t Jellybean (4.1.1) - Unlocked bootloader ONLY!
I would like to start saying that I’m not responsible for whatever happens to your phone. Thanks to MATTLGROFF who figure out this way of flashing this jellybean leak on my phone.
Having that said THIS IS ONLY FOR BELL ATRIX HD USERS THAT HAVE THEIR BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED. Please read thru and ask any questions before attempting
OK here we go:
1. I assume you’re in stock BELL ICS ROM (77.55.18.MB886.BellMobility.en.CA) … it doesn’t matter if you’re rooted or not. Make sure you have the motorola drivers installed.
2. Enable debugging mode on your phone (settings>development options> enable USB debugging)
3. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER. To do this open command prompt and type “adb reboot-bootloader” and check....
a. It should say: "Device is UNLOCKED. Status Code:1"
4. Now double check you’re unlocked.
5. Make sure you have a charged battery (more than 60%) and boot into fastboot. (if you're not already here)
6. Now download the stock ICS zip for At&t.
a. Unzip it
b. Make sure you have the fastboot files in the same folder/path as your fxz files.
c. Flash the boot.img from the at&t zip.
i. Hold the shift key down and right click on the unzipped folder. Now in the dropdown menu click “open command prompt here”
ii. Now type “fastboot flash boot boot.img”
d. Flash the system.img
i. "Fastboot flash system system.img”
ii. you should be in Stock att ICS rom now.
7. Now download the file for the stock at&t Jellybean zip. ( you will be able to go back to ICS --I have gone back to stock 4.0.4 Bell ROM-- bc you’re only flashing boot and system images)
8. Now start back at step 6 but with the jelly bean leak ---- Or you can try just going to settings and checking for updates! (haven't tried this yet - don't know if it will flash something we don't want it to UPDATE: I guess it doesn't work)
9. You should be on AT&T Jellybean now - and you probably(thanks soulja) lost root...

You might want to just clarify that "adb reboot-bootloader" puts the device into fastboot. Took me a few minutes to figure that out.

...probably! not "prolly"!
OK, so I think I followed the directions properly, it appears SafeStrap is gone, and I now get new boot animations, a "thumping" Motorola logo and then an AT&T Rethink Possible. But it seems to be stuck after it plays that, with the AT&T logo and "Rethink Possible" message. Help!
UPDATE: After much flailing about, I got it into Recovery mode (could only get there by adb reboot recovery, the vol up/down + pwr only gets me a white texted menu which included "factory" but didn't do anything".) Will see if this works.
UPDATE 2: YES! After the factory reset, I let it boot up again. I was about to give up and try going back to ICS, but then it went past the Rethink Possible logo to a configure phone screen.
UPDATE 3: What... OK so it thinks it's an AT&T phone now, that's OK. It also shows it connected to 4G which it never has (always E, H or H++) But it's still on 4.0.4 ICS even though I did load the JB rom. But I just checked updates and it's got 4.1.1!!
UPDATE 4: Update (98.4.20.en.US) downloaded. Hitting install now...
UPDATE 5: CRAP. After reboot "The software update failed!" I might try reflashing the file from 7.7.1Q-144_MB886_MR1-22_SIGNED_CFC
UPDATE 6: No joy. :/ Any tried flashing Blur_Version.77.12.22.MB886.ATT.en.US.zip? After the above procedure, is my phone now "really" an AT&T phone?
UPDATE 7: I followed the thread about fixing failed update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050416, and then got the OTA update. THIS TIME IT WORKS!!! I did lose root though. Oh well. I tried motofail2go again, but I couldn't get the "bug report" vibrate to happen.

First step is actually to get Motorola drivers installed on your PC, as well as adb tools. Sorry I don't have a link handy. Then from PC do the "adb reboot-bootloader".

First step is actually to get Motorola drivers installed on your PC, as well as adb tools. Sorry I don't have a link handy. Then from PC do the "adb reboot-bootloader".

The title of this threads says "Unlocked bootloader ONLY!" You haven't unlocked it yet. Please go read up on how to do that first.

what unlocked changes is, you can replace the kernel... but the RSDLite can replace it too, i dont quite get it.

Help!

YOu need to do a factory reset! Sorry forgot to include that in the steps! My Bad!

YESSS!!! you figured it out!

Yeah 4G is the same as H+, that's just how At&t symbolizes it
UPDATE 4: Update (98.4.20.en.US) downloaded. Hitting install now...
UPDATE 5: CRAP. After reboot "The software update failed!" I might try reflashing the file from 7.7.1Q-144_MB886_MR1-22_SIGNED_CFC

I guess it won't work huh?... we were lucky if it did!
UPDATE 6: No joy. :/ Any tried flashing Blur_Version.77.12.22.MB886.ATT.en.US.zip? After the above procedure, is my phone now "really" an AT&T phone?

No it's not really an at&t phone... you can flash back the Bell 4.0.4 ROM (I just did it). Remember it will ONLY WORK IF YOU HAVE AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER!

Ok. SO install the moto drivers first (just google them -Motocast)
Now the fastboot files and put them in the same folder or path of the system and boot.img
Now connect your phone and make sure its in debugging mode
Open command prompt (cmd) in the folder you have the files you want to install. (do this by holding shift and right click on that folder)
Now type adb reboot bootloader IN CMD. You phone should reboot into fastboot! :victory:

Capran you can't install it following this procedure. It won't work or you will brick.
This si only for unlocked bootloader Atrix HDs. There's only a few of them out there (they all seem to be BELL models, but not all Bell models) I think its the ones that shipped with system version: 77.55.17.MB886.BellMobility.en.CA. TheBootloader version is 10.96 i believe... and the locked one is 10.97 I think...

How about the 77.55.18.MB886.BellMobility.en.CA can we flash it to our unlocked Atrix hd? I saw that there's an update to JB 4.1.2. on this version. Thanks
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
I have an unlocked Bell Atrix HD. It was running 77.55.17 and I tried this method of flashing the AT&T software using fastboot and it didn't work. I could flash the boot.img, but when I went to flash the system.img.ext4 it would tell me that I had exceeded the download buffer. So at this point I had flashed the boot.img already and the phone wouldn't boot. I actually couldn't get any system.img files to flash from fastboot, even the Bell one, always the same exceeded the download buffer error. So I downloaded RSD lite and flashed the 77.55.18 Bell firmware to it via RSD lite and I was back in business again. At this point I just said to heck with it with fastboot and then flashed the stock ICS AT&T firmware via RSD lite only having used the modified XML file that is suggested to use. This worked perfectly fine as well. I was then able to root with motofail and use voodoo to backup my root. Then I just let it do the JB update OTA and that worked perfectly fine as well and then restored my root through voodoo and verified I still had root. Everything looks fine. The funny thing is I'm selling this phone, I have a Galaxy Note II now, but I was worried if I sold it with the Bell firmware nobody would want it since it was still ICS. Should be a bonus to someone that its unlocked, and rooted already hopefully.

Glad you worked it out! The first time I did it was from the 77.55.17 version, then I updated to at&t ICS the to JEllybean and now back to Bell ICS (77.55.18) Not sure what happened, but still glad you worked it out!
That's the great thing about the forums we can all work together in solving issues!

Indeed, so glad I didn't brick it, lol. Maybe it was something wrong with the fastboot executables I used, I used the same ones I had downloaded a couple weeks ago to flash the HTC One V's that I got my kids for Christmas and not the ones linked to in the original post. It worked fine for for the One V's, not for the Atrix HD for some reason. Oh well, I just like tinkering with this stuff.

still trying to figure out what exactly FXZ means and whether its a good way to basically fix your phone regardless of what you may have done to it. Will this allow me to change my borked stock rom and rom slot 1 running aosp to just nullify everything and get stock jellybean back onto my bionic? And if so, what are the instructions to do so, (ive never used RSD)
How do I flash this? Does it matter what firmware my phone is on? I know I'm not on the update path. Pretty much I rooted and loaded a Custom ROM for my bros Bionic. But now I want the new JB for his phone ...

Not sure how you guys do it.. And even though this release doesn't benefit me whatsoever (I just happened to come across this thread).. Thank you for all you and your crew (mysteriously) do.

I'm not sure anyone actually knows what "fxz" means.. Flashable XML Zip... Lol.. Maybe..
But, yes, you can use RSDLite (for Windows only) - make sure you have your moto drivers installed on your computer - extract the zip close to C:\ with no spaces in your path - point RSD to the .xml file in the extracted folder - boot in to fastboot mode (power + vol. down probably, if like my moto) - connect USB and make sure your phone is recognized - and hit go..
Or you can flash those files with moto-fastboot (some with just fastboot).. Make a .bat file or .sh script.. See mine here for an example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36834775&postcount=108 - WARNING NOTE: If you try to use my files for the A2, you MUST first cross check the partitions and file names in my .bat and the .xml from the FXZ package - and edit the .bat as necessary for your device.
Letting RSD run the xml will wipe/flash everything, usually including bootloader - back to stock ota jb - in theory... YOU WILL ALSO LOOSE ROOT! (so, hope you have a root method for JB).. Or it could possibly brick your phone if it's not the correct firmware/region, or if trying to downgrade.. See my batch file that flashes system.img only for borked systems - but, yea, this could all be pointless, or for emergency situations only - until you have a way to re-gain root.
Check out the Atrix 2 forum.. We have a lot of experience with the FXZs..

Yes it will. I did the same thing. I initially failed on Step 5. I had to extract the zip file and modify the XML removing the fb_mode_set and fb_mode_clear lines (See http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/1107-fix-unknown-fastboot-command-oem-phone-connected/).
yep, it worked for me, too. too bad we lost root. I'll keep my fingers crossed for an exploit to be discovered.

My question is this, If I bricked my phone tring to go back to ICS after JB update could I use the 4.1.2 file with RSD light to fix phone to JB? or is this only to flash from ICS to JB if you had some thing wrong with ICS install and JB would not take OTA? Thanks for all the work getting these files up though!
I get "Failed flashing process. 5/24 oem fb_mode_set -> Phone returned FAIL"
Any ideas?

Firmware Team is dedicated to releasing full official FXZ packages from Motorola. This is far from just a ROM. This completely reflashes the device to a pristine factory state.
No Internal Memory
I edited the lines as directed and flashed the update with RSD Lite and the phone works like it is supposed to, but now I can't access the internal memory. I tried to format it like the phone suggested and then it wouldn't recognize any of the memory cards - I think it erased e: drive. So I reflashed it and now I don't get the message to format it, but it won't show up in Windows... my 32GB external SD card shows up, but not the internal memory.
It looks like I don't have permission to access the internal memory. Any suggestions on how to do this with no root?
Thanks.

I think in a different thread someone mentioned that after a couple different boots it may show back up?
another phone, another dilemma. I don't know exactly what happened. The events that led me here are too long to describe and I don't want to bore anybody. I'm stuck at the Encryption unsuccessful loop and I still have no idea how to get out of it. Any help to get me out of this and back to working again would be extremely appreciated.

4.1.2 flash failure after CM 10.1.3
After finally getting my Bionic 4.1.2 rooted I was anxious to install a custom rom. I chose CM 10....
It blackscreened on me. So I decided to RSD back to 4.1.2 and got the "flash failure". I'm completely stuck....unable to flash anything. I need HELP.
I flashed my bionic to get 3g with pageplus. Will this FXZ file return my radio back to the factory 4g LTE state?
