hi all......I flashed my stock captivate to helly bean and my signal is dropping constantly and since I stay in India ....is there any way to get proper signals ?......please help me out ....if I need to change modem please recommend me one ......I was on vibrant before and used kb5 modem which had never run into any sort of problem ........now I'm on i9000xxjvt now ...thanks for helping
Happened to me too.
I initially flashed KG3, but right now I'm using the one that comes with LANIGHT 8.0 (totally recommend that rom btw) it's KC1 I think it works a bit better (might be just my impression).

I flashed 3 different modems and now I'm getting good signals but .......when I'm calling some one there are saying my voice is not at all clear .....this happens when someone calls to me also but I can hear properly .......I initially taught rom problem I updated to hellybeans latest one and same problem .......its killing me now I'm on my gingerbread stock kk4 modem .......should I Odin back to stock or flash another rom?
If your rom is jellybean, ics, cm, miui, or similar then u need to use i9000 modems for those. See this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16843698
These modems specifically... http://soggycashew.weebly.com/cm7miui--ics-modems.html

had the same problems.
somehow after several flashes my modem starts working on 1800 MHz band only.
flashed kk4 which enabled 900 MHz band but have me voice glitches...
then I flashed ugk3 modem and finally both 900 and 1800 MHz bands are working now with nice voice quality.
also i do recommend LaNight ROM too

Im using Darkys rom running on the 1900 band everything works fine but was wondering if it would be better to flash to the JL2 modem and if id see a difference?
Other question is it possible to get the SamsungLM app from the stock rom and install it on Darkys rom? If yes how would I go.about doing that?

I and several others flash the JL2 modem. You then need to go into the service menu and enable 850mhz. Being stuck in 1900 means that if you're in an area where 1900 is weak (or non-existent) and 850 is strong, you won't have reception.
Ok thanks will flash JL2 modem.
And now is there a way to.go.in the JL2 file and get some of the stock apps to port on darkys rom. Im really missing SamsungIM and the bell nav app.

Doesn't 3 have shocking reception? Here in australia they are a joke. The only way I countered this weakness was to install jpe modem. Now signals a bit better than jpy but battery on standby is exceptional.

Yes i heard very shocking. And the best for 3g as they own most of 3g but its not that fast. How do i check jpy? And move to jpe . I.am a noob lol

i'm with 3 in aus as well, i try to flash jpe and i don't see it get better, it's pretty much same as jpy.... is this 3 fault? or we have to try other modem like the stock jp3? any idea?
If you are using Telstra or 850mhz band / i9000T try the UGJL2 modem from here

I am using a samsung captivate running aokp build 31 semaphore kernel. I cannot seem to get data connection at all. I go into settings, more, mobile networks, and when I click network operators, it just searches for a network forever. I have tried several roms and still cannot get service on any of them.
Is there something I'm missing that isn't getting me any connection? If so, what can I do to fix this problem?

Well I changed the kernel from glitch to semaphore to see if that would do anything but it still didn't work. I'm new to all of this so I don't know if kernel is the same thing as modem.
Kernel is different than the modem the modem is what controls the cell signal part of the phone there is a website that has a map and it has pins on it that tell you what modems work best in what areas you will have to Google it because I don't remember the website off hand and you have to be on a computer for the site to work right.

thanks i found the website. but if i flashed a different modem and my service still doesn't work what could be causing the problem then? And is ice cream sandwich a froyo or gingerbread rom? because i basically only use ice cream sandwich and i want to make sure i dont flash a froyo modem for a gingerbread rom.
Just flashed a modem from that map. thank you so much. I got my data back and at my house where i get no connection, i have full bars. Thanks so much. Now last thing, i can flash a rom over it and it will stay correct?

ICS is basically Android 4.0 gingerbread is 2.3 and froyo is 2.2. You are gonna want a modem that has ics in the name of it I think the one I'm using is cm7-ics -jl3 or something along those lines.

yeah i got cm7-ics-UGKG3. Data works great. Will the modem affect the battery life as well, because i was getting terrible battery life with any rom, so if that affects battery life, then that could have been the reason it was so bad. I was just in a bad modem. And also, does it affect the performance such as smootness, or is that the kernel and roms job?
Also, when i flashed semaphore kernel and was using that. I tried to install a rom or anything, but it said there was an error and it wouldn't let me flash anything. Is that normal for a custom kernel to do that? this was the first time i tried a custom kernel normally i just use the one that comes with the rom. I had to restore one of my old roms because CWM wouldn't let me flash anything new.

It will affect battery life but won't help with smoothness different kernels and roms help I over clock mine to 1300 mhz instead of stock 1000 that seems to help but the captivate period has bad battery life so I got the extended battery for 13 bucks and I don't even look at the battery any more.

Okay thanks. And if you flash a rom over a custom kernel such as AOKP with icy glitch kernel over semaphore will the icy glitch kernel replace the semaphore kernel then you would have to reflash semaphore or will semaphore stay?

I think the stock one is JK4 for JB. But for jamaica, I'd suggest looking at the modems your carrier is on, those would probably be the best.
Ok after doing some research i found out that the network I'm on uses the 900mhz frequency.. which modem uses 900mhz as default?

A modem with 850mhz unlocked would probably do great but what I think would be best is to find the base of your carrier's modem.

Well, JK4 is actually UGJK4. So let's say you have JK3 (UGJK3) and it works great, you know that the newer modem, JK4, will work well.
But now that I'm thinking about it, did your phone come with GB? If so, it's quite hard to us to know which modem is came with. Modems are by area so (almost) every carrier uses different one. There's a modem thread in the Dev section (stickied), you might have to try a few different one.

When i got the phone it was running Froyo which I later updated to GB.. my brother's Cappy has the UCKK4 and he's still running GB.. we got the phone the same time and both updated the same time so I'm assuming that is what I had before I upgraded to JB.. I'm on JK3 modem but i can't seem to flash JK4 or any other modem.. it always ends with an error...

U can use Odin3 v1.83 (the regular Odin) to flash a modem as well. Just pull the modem.bin out of the cwm zip of the modem u want, get into download mode, put the modem.bin in the PHONE tab/slot in Odin and flash.
Get the Odin here if u don't have it already... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33577757

No need to give up, you can flash modems after modems without any problem. It just a bit time consuming.
To be safe, backup your efs folder so that if your IMEI is unknown again, you can use the backup.

From what i know of the Captivate specs...the gsm 900mhz frequency that it can operate on is just the 2g/edge network. U said u saw the H before on GB rom (custom rom or leaked firmware, i'm guessing?). That letter H can be changed to read whatever letter u want. Just saying.
So in reality the problem may not be the modems (although some modems will work better than others for sure), it may just be the network service that your provider has in your area... It may just be low/bad cell signal.
What other frequencies are used by your provider ? Compare that with the frequency band specs of the Captivate and you will get a better answer on the quality of service you should expect. Maybe your provider has a coverage map that you could compare to as well.

Hey there,
Take a look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870460
Because you're in Croatia, XDJV1 might be a good choice for you.
If not, JW4, JVU, ZSJBG (or something along the lines, the actual name escapes my memory, but it begins with ZS) are all good modems- the last one especially, because that (according to others) has really good wifi and connectivity as well as good battery.
EDIT: ZSJPG
Its safe to flash the modem zips through recovery, and you can flash as many as you like to try.
Cheers,
Soryuu
