I'm running cm10 on my rooted, unlocked nexus 7. I'd like to make the jump to 4.2, but I'm not sure if it's the right time yet. I want something I can just flash in twrp without having to revert to stock or screw up my recovery and backups. Is there something like this yet?
It looks like there are a couple of prospects on the Galaxy nexus, but not the nexus 7?

Dont try that!
There is no direct way to try out Galaxy R ROMs, and not safe to try either.
If you want to try out development, you can try to port its ROMs with some help, but that isnt advisable either unless you have experience.
Cheers

If you're talking about the stock rom, most of Samsung specific stuff like touchwiz launcher (including icons), media like ring tones, camera shutter sounds, notification sounds, widgets are available as installable or flashable files (you can search around the forum).
That's what some ROMs in our forum have used, and hence the Samsung look and feel name.
So, that main reason to port, is now easily managed on any rom by installing those stuff, while maintaining the speed, stability and all features of the base lg stock/cm rom
