[DEV] GOOGLE EARS.apk - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Ok so this is a GoogleEars.apk upload, working (i hope lmao) for the htc vivid on 4.0.3 ported from jelly bean.
Place GoogleEars.apk in /system/app, and libvorbisencoder.so in /system/lib.
MAKE SURE TO PUT THE LIB IN THE LIB FOLDER.. without the lib, the widget won't work. btw if any of you want to know what google ears is, i believe it is like soundhound, but by google. lol

GOOGLE EARS:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38311939/New folder/GoogleEars.apk
LIB:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38311939/New folder/libvorbisencoder.so

Maybe a stupid question, but what is Google Ears?

I have an old copy of the apk that doesn't need the lib file and it works fine?
I however noticed that if the song ain't for sale on Google play... It won't find the song...

Maybe I should give it a try lol.

OK, what is shazam? Before this gets out of control, I'll do a google search (which only turned up this thread when searching for "google ears").
OK, got it. in a nutshell: "Song recognizer." How hard would it have been to put that into the OP?

Lol @gene. Yea - Ears, like Shazam, will listen to a song and tell you its title and artist.
@xx - Here's a flashable that installs these two items and sets permissions properly. http://www.mediafire.com/?krd396p8jop7xpu
@mods - Should this maybe be in Themes/Apps, rather than Dev?

I don't recall seeing the mention of soundhound in the OP, but there it is. Guess I'm getting sloppy in my old age. Sorry about that.
As for making an installable zip, just zip it up with the directory structure intact and add a installer binary (I use the one included in the CM builds as it is usually complete and up-to-date) and script a directory as so:
Code:
META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary
META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
The script is pretty straight forward:
Code:
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p29", "/system");
package_extract_dir("system", "/system");
set_perm(0, 0, 0644, "/system/app/GoogleEars.apk");
set_perm(0, 0, 0644, "/system/lib/libvorbisencoder.so");

Thread belongs in themes and apps

Fixed - Call Log Mod **FIXED for EB13** Thanks K0nane

Modded the LogProvider to exclude Mms and SMS.

thank you...
DUDE!
That is very nice!!!
Will this work witht he DK17 release? If not, could you post up what you edited in the file orjust do it for us? Thanks!
Would like this change, didn't work on Quantum 1.5 sadly.
Doesn't seem like anything is wrong, anything I need to worry about from the install?
Thanks in advance.
Actually, it sort of worked. It hid sms/mms from all logged days except today (which is when I installed 1.5).
So presumably something in Quantum 1.5's modifications throws this off.
Well I had to wait for a few texts to come in and when they did they weren't in the call log. Another pet peeve erased for me, thanx ;-)

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you flash an apk file? Clockwork only sees zips and it fails with App Installer.

I assumed it was supposed to be named .zip (apks are renamed zips), flashed usin Viper rom v2.4 and still have sms in my logs. Bummer too, since this mod would be sweet
My friend's been really b*tching about this on his AT&T Captivate. Any chance this would work on his phone? Also, it's an .apk file? Do you install or rename .zip and flash via Recovery?
To the people talking about the file extension, it is .apk for a reason because it is a system app. You need to either insert it into a signed .zip with the proper structure (system/app) or use adb to push it to the system/app directory and then reboot.

This rocks! Thanks Mammon88! I used Root Explorer from the market and renamed the original .apk with .apk.bak, pasted yours in, and rebooted. Using DK17.
Just curious - what change did you make to the original .apk? I'm thinking of trying to tweak it some more but have not done any programming for, oh, many years. I'd like to retain the functionality of the View By Received/Sent messages without forcing people to see them (maybe by adding a "View by: All Calls" option). Right now your .apk doesn't seem to display messages at all, which is a relief! But, y'know, android is all about choice!
Thanks again! Great work on your ROMs, too.
Using a Captivate
I used Root Explorer to push the new apk into my system/app dir, it looked like everything worked but upon reboot the text message logs were still there. Any idea? I followed the process here: http://simply-android.com/discussion/159/howto-replace-or-restore-apps-using-root-explorer/p1

I would think you could just download a rom open it up with winrar and copy it out and post it with credits and permission of coarse, just to be safe
Well the reason i mentioned the 3 files, is that sensorcalibutil_yamaha was the only file that's flashed in this fix. Hence why it might not work? Again, i know nothing of fixes and development on Android, but from a programming perspective, i would say they're dependent files...
Who knows... If anyone feels like taking the time to re-create this fix with the files listed, it just may work. =\

(Request) Put a build.prop into CWM-flashable *.zip .......PLEASE

I've got a phone that may or may not be totally frakked due to careless build.prop modding and have been asked to try and recover it without wiping, OS flashing, or any other methods that could potentially lead to a wipe. ADB is a no-go, but I've got CWM access. I've never needed to make a CWM-flashable *.zip before, so I never learned how. I'm crunched for time and could really just use a break. Could somebody please put this build.prop into a CWM-flashable *.zip for me?

PS: The scripts assert was enabled in the CWM and it worked, I have tried changing the build.prop you put in you zip for the build.prop in the backup I made.

Jelly Bean stuff

Since LG won't release ICS, why not skip ahead a bit and start adding Jelly Bean stuff to GB. Attached are some of the things you can use right away. You must have root.
If you don't follow these instructions properly, it's not my fault if you screw something up. Best to make a nandroid backup before you proceed, mmkay?
Boot animation:
Copy to /system/media, permissions 0644. Might look a little weird since it's 640x640, but you can't have everything on the first day JB's released
Play Store:
Install, done. Or, copy to /system/app, permissions 0644.
It's for US, so not all of the changes will be here. Most notably, you can't buy movies out of US yet (the option will not be there).
Fonts:
Extract the fonts, copy to /system/fonts, permissions 0644, rename to DroidSans.ttf (rename the original to DroidSans.ttf.bak or something) or symlink it to DroidSans.ttf. Do the same for the bold and italic fonts.
Added both Roboto and RobotoCondensed, as well as some more. You can only use Roboto or RobotoCondensed at any one time, you can't have your cake and eat it too
Wallpapers:
Extract them, paste them somewhere, open in gallery, set as wallpaper.
Now, doublecheck your permissions. Failure to set permissions correctly may result in bootloops.
After all that, reboot to enjoy.
PS. All of the zips are not flashable zips, don't even try flashing them.
