i restarted my rooted htc salsa and the phone showed a low internal memory warning. I restated it again and it still showed the same warning and also, my superuser , link2sd , titanium backup , play store icons are not there. What do I do?
You need to elaborate more. You rooted your device and restarted it and got a low memory warning xcan mean anything. What rom is it? I assume stock. How did you root it? What else have you done ie have you done a recovery. Unlocked it etc. Post up Everything up you Have done in what order you did it.
I can help you far more with this info.

Thanks for the reply. I am a complete noob , so bear with me . I unlocked bootloader through the info provided at htcdev.com and then followed the tutorial on xda on how to root with s-on. I am using the stock rom and have installed CWM recovery. I have around 60 applications installed and whenever I reboot , my phone takes a lot of time to 'show' all the applications . but, today ,when I rebooted , my phone stopped showing play store, superuser,link2sd etc icons and also showed that the memory is too low ,even though I have linked all the apps to sd . Why is this happening?

ok im assuming you haven't made and ext3 partition on your sd card.
have you linked the apps via link2sd? if so which ones. sounds to me like the whole lots just crashed. have you backed anything up? im assuming you may have by using titanium backup.
if Google play and superuser have gone then its a system fault unless you moved them to the sd card in which case your sd card has gone corrupt. what internal setup are you using.
internal memory, what is it and how have or are you using it and what with.
sd card setup. similar to previous question but if using it with link2sd, how?

Yes I'd linked the apps via link2sd. all the user apps and some of the system apps , including PlayStore . Yes , I backed up using Titanium Backup :silly:
And I partitioned my card using CWM recovery v5.0.2.6 .. I don't know what ext it has made.
And I don't understand what you mean by internal setup and the last two points. Please bear with me , I'm a complete beginner .

lol you moved a system app to the sd card. your sd card has failed and removed the apps you moved across. recovery won't make and ext partition, you have to.
biggest no no is moving system apps to the sd or linking them.
example of my setup.
i use a mixture of different roms to suit my needs. currently CM7/my own depending on what im doing.
my sd card has a ext3 partition of 1gb on there. when we flash our roms we use various data2sd scripts, most work across the roms range some don't. this creates a stable non movable area without the need to link the apps to the sd thus creating a 1.15gb internal memory area.y
also means no moving of apps required as the internal memory is so large now.
what you have done is a common error, i did it when i first started on the salsa so don't be disheartened lol.
you can do a few things to correct this error.
backup you data and reset the rom in recovery mode, this will only clear the things that have been done now inc majority of root. you can try and reflash the root file giving back superuser again. not 100% this will work mind.
to get playstore back you can flash a package called gapps. listed in this area, check android development or use search.
most users now flash another rom, these always include superuser and most root applications required and have the ability to give increased internal memory.
check out these threads, these will give the basics to what you require.

just remember, never move a system app or link it to the sd card!
Thanks man ! I reset my phone and will start afresh ...

Right now I'm using CM 6.1.1 on my Nexus One. When I flashed CM for the first time I wiped my SD card right after I installed the ROM, so I really don't remember too much about what happened to my apps or anything like that. So, my question is, if I want to install CM 7, can I just wipe my phone with ROM manager right before installing it, and then not wipe my SD card afterwards? Will the apps, pictures, ect., that is on my SD card right now magically appear untouched on CM 7? I guess I'm just not sure how the SD card contents will be affected when flashing ROMs, and I'm not sure if after you flash a new ROM, the ROM can use all of the stuff that's on your SD card just like the ROM you had before did.. Does that kinda make sense? I feel dumb for asking all this. Also, when I save a backup of my ROM, the backup will just be a copy of all of my phone's internal memory and the operating system, right? And when I wipe my phone and install a new ROM, the new ROM just replaces all of my phone's old contents? So if I ever flashed my original ROM again, it'd bring back all of my phone's contents, system memory, operating system, apps installed on the phone, ect?
Thanks for taking the time to read my long, poorly written batch of questions Help would be very very appreciated!
SD card isn't touched when flashing ROMs.
You can restore your backup and it'll be all like it was.
If you use DT A2SD - things start being more complicated.

Yes, you can leave your SD contents as is, they won't be touched.

Pictures, Music, Videos etc that are stored on the SD card will remain untouched by flashing a new ROM, however apps are a different story. Basically you've got two main types of Apps on SD cards. The first is froyos implementation which is basically used to free up space on the phone memory but will not survive a wipe or flashing a new ROM. The alternative is Dark Tremors A2SD which uses a dedicated partition on your SD card (Created through recovery) to store apps by tricking the system into thinking the folder on your SD card is actually on internal memory. Once a new ROM is installed over the current (Which obviously must use DT A2SD also) these apps should be available again with their settings etc remaining.
I guess I'm just not sure how the SD card contents will be affected when flashing ROMs, and I'm not sure if after you flash a new ROM, the ROM can use all of the stuff that's on your SD card just like the ROM you had before did

Again, all data/media remains but apps require A2SD or its variants.

When you backup/nandroid you take a screenshot of sorts of your system. By default I think most recovery images save the boot, system, data and cache partitions when a backup is being made. Certain recoveries offer to backup other partitions such as sd-ext (Where A2SD stores the apps). Backups are designated by folders with a time stamp, I personally rename these to reflect the contents e.g. MM.v.20 tells me this is MicroMods v.20 of his GB ROM. Obviously yours will differ but I find this keeps things organised. Basically think of nandroid as the Android equivalent of Acronis true image or Norton Ghost for the PC. It lets you create any number of backups which will restore your device to the exact state at the moment of backup.
And when I wipe my phone and install a new ROM, the new ROM just replaces all of my phone's old contents?
Click to collapse
A newly flashed ROM will basically restore your device to factory settings but on the new ROM. Once you've signed in to your Google account certain settings and content will be automatically downloaded e.g. Calendar appointments, Contacts. Other settings will not be restored e.g. Display brightness, alarms.
So if I ever flashed my original ROM again, it'd bring back all of my phone's contents, system memory, operating system, apps installed on the phone, ect?
Click to collapse
Nope, again it would return to the factory settings. However you can restore nandroid backups you have made of your original ROM which would return the system exactly to its previous state.
Basically if you're on a stock ROM it won't have A2SD. If you wish to use A2SD from now on then find a ROM which uses it, partition your SD card appropriately (Plenty of guides around) and you'll have minimal problems moving from ROM to ROM. As for Nandroid you'll find that most ROM devs recommend wiping all data from the phone (Not SD card) before flashing their ROM. Otherwise files or settings from other ROMs can cause some undesired effects on your current one.
Good luck and get reading the Nexus wiki, it's very helpful for these types of questions
Note: For some reason I vaguely remember someone noting that Froyos A2SD can be used to move apps to another ROM or at least the base app itself (If not the individual setup/settings) but I can't seem to find any info after a quick Google and it never interested me enough to look into it further. Perhaps someone can clear this up?

I dont think thats true.. suppose it's formatted during a wipe.. titanium backup serves the purpose like a charm.. (with all the settings for the apps and the resumes for the games)

I have a similar question to the OP. I use a 1GB EXT through DT's A2SD. If I wanted to flash a new ROM would the following be my step-checklist?
1 - Nand backup (just in case)
2 - Backup apps with Titanium
3 - wipe system data & cache
4 - flash new rom
5 - restore apps?
I'm just wondering what the procedure is to keep the apps in A2SD on a new flash without re-setting up.

yeah that would be fine..
btw 1: if you upgrading a cm nightly, you need not wipe system n cache..
2: if you do a titanium backup before, then you can finish all the steps in the recovery in one go..
n I dint quite get what you are asking. but from what I know, apps 2 sd folder (ie android.secure) is erased in a wipe.. that isnt changing

shreyas - thanks for your help.
I understand the A2SD (EXT) partition onthe sd will be wiped, but I'm assuming I would have to do nothing to get the new rom to see the ext and use it?
That's really my question. Would recovering my apps from Titanium push them back on the A2SD location or would I need to install A2SD again?
i don't think so..
I suppose that the pro version must support the direct a2sd.. but give it a try.. if it dosent work then you have do manually..

I highly recommend using CMW for making the partition. I've had some problems making them through my PC. With CMW you just set the amount of size you want it and wait till its done.
Then install S2E.
yea its better to make it by cwm and its very easy....
but make sure you have the backup of you sdcard before partitioning...
Hey ! I just googled about partitioning sd card and found that CWM may brick your phone.. is it true ?

If your phone is rooted, follow these steps -
1) Download root explorer or file manager app from market.
2) Open the app
3) Go to system/app
4) Delete the following files
swype.apk
thinkdroid.apk or thinkfree.apk if you dont use thinkfree office(something like that, i dont remember the exact name)
youtube.apk
fmradio.apk and fmradio.odex
voicesearch.apk
voicerecorder.apk and voicerecorder.odex
etc..
Delete these files only if you dont use all these apps. Don't blame me later on.

Apps disappearing from EXT4 partition
Hi everyone. Since I see that at least part of this thread seems to be talking about Link2SD, I wondered whether anyone might be able to offer some insight into the problem I am experiencing.
Before that however, let me explain that I started off with an 8GB micro SD card with a 500MB EXT4 partition. I had been fast running out of space in the internal phone memory, and my SD drive itself was also filling up fast. When I installed Link2SD I managed to regain a considerable amount of free space on the internal memory.
The problem is though that once I had linked the majority of my apps to the EXT4 partition and backed up the device in that condition with CWM, once I rebooted the system all the apps that were linked had disappeared. However there are still some 244MB of files on the EXT4 partition that Link2SD says are in use, and I cannot delete them.
I then purchased a 16GB micro SD card from Samsung, and tried to restore the CWM backup to that card....my apps were missing apart from the few that remained on the FAT32 partition and in the phone memory....I should mention that this also happened before I installed the CM7.1 ROM.
Now things have really become problematic. I decided to remove quite a few apps, then download the latest version of Link2SD from the apps Market. But although there is now plenty of space on all partitions I keep getting the 'insufficient storage available' message, and I cannot install anything. I also did a CWM restore on the original 8GB SD card with the same result. This is why I cannot lay the blame fully on Link2SD, as there has to be a glitch somewhere in my installation.
FreeSpace [Root] shows the following on the 8GB based system:
Cache free space 20.7MB
Data free 16.6MB
Ext free 265.0MB
SD-card free 959.1MB
System free 48.2MB
So what gives? I really don't understand what's going on. I am running the latest CM7.1-RC1 Cooper-Grif ROM build number GWK74, with Kernel version 2.6.35.7-CL-562111 [email protected]#1 with all updates necessary. This is costing me more time than I can afford to lose on this, and I really need to find a solution once and for all, preferable without having to reinstall everything again from scratch, which is what I intend doing once the official Cyanogen Mod becomes available finally.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the long post.

Make partition in cwm yet easy but...it will format your sd...on minitool is better if u have lots of thing on your sd...
regards,
•ƒγяύs ργяσ™•
I got some problems doing this. This is what I did:
I had many apps installed and moved to SD (8gb class 4), so I made a backup of the SD content.
I formatted it, and created 2 partitions (6.8gb and 515mb) using Minitool Partition Wizard. Both are primary and FAT32 (if I create the 2nd partition as EXT2 the phone says SD is damaged).
Moved my backup content again to the 6.8gb partition and rebooted the phone.
Looks like everything is right but Link2SD says "second partition not found".
What IM doing wrong?
Would Link2SD detect that 2nd partition if I flash my phone and I start installing apps now that my SD has 2 partitions?
IMHO from what I've experience, Link2sd does not accept fat partitions. I had the same problem.
Are you looking for the correct type of partition?
Start Link2sd>menu>More>recreate mount scripts and choose FAT32/FAT16

Are you linking the apk, dex and lib files or just installing (moving) apps to sd? You should create link to free up your internal space.
Take it from my experience. I used stocklite for almost 5 months with link2sd. Linked all apps except for those with widgets or that i needed at boot left on internal. 80 apps, 50 mb free on internal.
If you change to cyanogenmod you won't have more internal space, same space, different rom. When you do the required wipes with cwm (which you should to install cyano roms) it will format and erase the partition. You'll still have your partitioned sd card, but all info in that partition will be gone.

I installed Cyno Mod 7 ROM and it works just fine and i have partitioned again and everything is fine now..but i backuped my stocklite and i dont have the original ROM which i used even before rooting how to get that 'the real one which i had when i bought the phone?' if i have that one ..i can change it to anytime when i want..
Carrier specific roms are harder to find than free roms. Go to sammobile and check if they have the rom that came with your phone.
The stock roms are all installed through your computer with odin and your phone in download mode.

Hey guys,
I recently rooted my s3 mini to JB 4.1.2 by faria and i was wondering why i cant install any more apps as my ram is used up by all my apps. is there a way to clear/wipe all this data and start from scratch installations or any way i can move this huge game files in android/obb to another location in my sdcard to save space for app installations on my phone memory.
also, i have tried directory bind,app2sd, lind2sd and gl to sd(root) none of them seems to be installing or working for me as i still face the prob with installation of the same app.
kindly help.

Drop this script into /data, chmod it to 777, and run it through SManager (thank everybody in this thread, not me).

Everything from ur last post was tried except for the downloading of the busy box. it wont even allow me to download it. it says insufficient storage. i cant proceed from there. i got the rest of it. i ran a chmod to 777 and instlled smanager . any help ?
Had the same error.
Simply wipe dalvik-cache and everything will work fine.
Cheers.
I used titanium backup and wiped dalvik cache. Still no use. Same error. Is there any way I can install busy box in linux.

Remove a LOT of your apps. That should fix the storage problem until you get the script into /data.
you could

try changing default install location. possible with normal device options, dont remember where. or else use app2sd to change it.
although i have the same error, when trying to install anything on extsdcard (with enough room on it), with faria rom v5.1.
with leatherface v2 i didnt have the problem if i remember correct.
update:
i still have the problem too.
wiped dalvik, factory reset multiple times, cleaned odin files, although faria rom is also using odex?
phone works fine, but i only have 4,5gb max internal (fused internal and sdcard).
and i cant install anything to external. i selected the options *install to: autoselect by android, internal, or external.
i tried it with more then one app, like rom toolbox pro.
i also noticed that chaning it it one app, correctly alters it in another.
i asked this in q&a, and i read what i can searching the whole forum. still i wuold really like to know:
-is 4,5 gb max combined/fused is normal for s3 mini +faria rom)?
-is it normal to have .obb partition completely empty, even having installed multipple apps?
its 402mb, totally free.
And i have other partitions also 402 mb, totally free.
-/cache partitions remains at 14mb, whatever happends, even after changing usage of cache heavier and lighter.
-cant install anything on extsdcard.
-/mnt/sdcard shows in that directory, with root explorer, as linked to sdcard0.
same in root:/sdcard (not sdcard0!) linked to -> sdcard0
but it has no apps in it. and only some folders.
?i dont know if i am correct in assuming that "->" symbol in root explorer means: linked to.

thx for yuor reply.
no that is not what i mean exactly.
i do use link2sd now, to use my extsd 2nd partition. but it gives an error: installl_failed_insufficent storage.
even when i put it on auto.
when pressing create link, i get: i/o error.
what do you have selected to auto move to 2nd partition?
my primary question, has to do with the fused internal+sdcard phone memory (so not extsdcard), of faria firmware.
Phone sees the fused internal as,... internal memory.
and the phone sees my extsdcard as external sdcard.
i presumed the reason for this is to be able to install apps on ext sd too, by default. (so without link2sd or others).
because the problem as i see it is:
now i have less phone storage.
i still cannot install to external sd card.
i would really like to know
- what should be the benefits of this fused memory? why did faria do this?
- beacause now i have less or same memory, and no benefits.
-what i have to change in system mount, or fuse, to get back original non-fused.
- And/Or, how i can enable extsdcard to install to it too.
thanks
Have you tried with an ext4 partition on your external sd, for link2sd? I've read somewhere that it worked.
Otherwise Directorybind do work. I've binded the whole Android folder without any problems at all :good:
hey

hi,
actually i do also had a the same problem with my cell phone as of yours... so i just wanna know if we had comeout with those problem.... please suggest me a solution too if you had solved those problem.
please do help...
found a solution (maybe?)
I personally had the same problem right after flashing a new rom on my i9100. I read through the script amd it was quite literally just unmounting and mounting the sd card again. I wasn't sure how it could possibly be a simple matter of mounting the sd card but it worked so I'm okay with that.
If you're on 4.1.2 then you can probably manually unmount and mount the sd card by going into system settings, storage and scroll down to sd card for unmount. It'll take a short while to unmount and another to mount again and check for errors. Not sure if you have to do this will ever boot but it beats not ever installing anything, right?

if u used lucky patcher remove previous patches and stuff like that
I just have a quick question. I have a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit T599n and running Beanstalk 4.4+ rom. I am having a few issues with the rom after a few month, such as random reboots, issues with PC connection (Phone only runs in Charge only mode, and phone does not pop up the option to use charge only, camera, or media mass storage modes when I connect to PC) and also no longer connects to Kies.
My question is, if I re-flash the SAME version of the rom that I have installed (I have the most recent version) over the current version I have installed, will I lose my apps and settings? Just want to know what to prepare for if I reflash. Should I do that and get to keep my apps and settings? Or is a factory reset necessary to fix my errors?
Do a factory reset that should do it .. if not it might be hardware problem.
EDIT: You can use Titanium Backup if you have root acess to backup all your apps.

Excellent, thank you.
One other question, I had a problem with this last time I did a factory reset. I have my SD card partitioned to install my apps on there (Phone only came with 1GB internal, and would only hold a couple apps) so my SD card is 32GB, with 8GB partitioned to install my apps on. I remember having trouble with them last time I tried to flash a new rom and ended up having to reinstall Beanstalk from scratch and completely wipe the app partition as well.
Ok soo if i understood , you rom that you gona flash on your 32 gb sd card and flash from that also you can get app link2sd i think its called which let you transfer apps to sd card, correct me if i am wrong.
Code:
I already have it set up that way. I have the rom installed, I have the 2nd partition on my SD card, and have the apps linked to it with Link2SD. But, I last time I tried backing up roms that were installed on that partition, I have a bounty of issues. When I went to reinstall the apps, the files were still on that 2nd partition, there were dormant files left over everywhere, so when I'd try to restore the apps from backup, I got a plethora of errors and the rom began crashing. Just wondering if there's any way to backup and use roms that are installed on that 2nd partition using Link2SD?

I see, well since you have only 1 gb of internal storage for use i dont think i can help you with that.. because backup itself take a lot of space and not sure if you can make it to backup on your 2nd partition.
Or you can try transfer your backup files to your PC/laptop and delete everything then ty doing it and transfer back to phone after.
