OK after doing a little net viewing I started to notice that the bad image quality is really just on Facebook when using chrome browser, otherwise every other site is just fine including video, however wallpapers do seem to have way to much noise in then.

Update completely ruined image quality. Gray wallpapers have HORRIBLE dithering (I think that's what it's called..)
Can't even use Gray gradients anymore. I'm pissed.

Pictures on 4.2 are definitely better for me, better contrast and more saturated colors.

i'm with the op here. my first reaction when the installation was finished when seeing the standard 4.1 background was that it looks really really compressed with a lot of artefacts in the dark parts. but when looking at hi-def pictures in chrome it looks fine. I think they put the standard backgrounds in low quality by mistake.

Because I don't have that problem. My OB stock gallery was fine...
yup that is a common problem with most android phones, not just ours.
HTC modded their gallery app to overcome this problem.
That's not a problem first of all because this way the images load a lot faster and don't lag because of the 3d effect. The gallery doesn't make them blury just resizes them, who would need it at 5 mpx?also you could always try another gallery app.

Don't believe your camera result by viewing via your phone screen. 5MP jpeg sized into your 800x480 4" screen, of course it will look nice.
professional studio photographer usually using macbook (which is using IPS panel), to direct preview photos instead of their SLR's built in LCD.

He also said viewing at pc better than viewing OB.
I think you will find NO mac book even the pro series has IPS display.
No profesional will use them in studio if choice is given, they are mainly on location solution.
Saying that the p970 screen gives good colour acuracy compared to my CALIBRATED IPS screen. This was the main reason for me buying it as I can't stand the i-junk.
And coming to the point.
Yes the gallery doesn't show properly the pics, but shows them reasonably and provided you do not zoom does the job. My main gripe with yhe galery though is the structure and controls. Too slow and controls are just dumb.
If 100% zoom is required there are plenty of programs in the market that will do it nicely.
QuickPic is indeed fast ,options are easy to sortout. I like functionality instead off visual candy

I simply couldnt stand how poor the picture quality was on my new bionic, so i started exploring ways to make them batter. And im happy to report, I did! I got an application from the market called camera zoom fx, and i promise you, the picture quality is like day and night, so it IS NOT, a hardware issue, its definitely a software issue. you can even change the location it saves the pics to so they save to the camera roll in your gallery just like the stock blur camera app, and you can set it as your default camera. below i have to example pictures i took under low lighting with the flash on. See for yourselves, but since this application has now been rought to everyones attention, i hope we dont have to hear about how ****ty our camera is in all the threads anymore... this is proof the camera isnt bad, the software it uses is... If you have any questions on how to setup the app or anything else, post here or PM me...
A $5 fix
But yes, this is a good app, and definitely proves that it isn't a hardware limitation.

That's kind of why I'm afraid of touching any camera but the blur one...because often times the camcorder doesn't make use of the noise canceling mics, doesn't do HD quality, and doesn't work with the FFC.
So the camcorder doesn't work on this all, either? Wish I would have known this before the refund period ended

Not very stable but I'd rather have great pictures instead of blurry **** quality. I don't have a doubt that the Bionic will gain some attention of the developer and they'll be able to fix the camera sometimes FC..
I spent the first two weeks on trying to get this camera to take a decent picture in low light and the results were never that great. Took one photo with Camera360 and it was a night and day difference.

I notice on the nexus device camera you have to hard press and hold the camera button and wait until the dialer lock into place. its a twisting dialer that goes from left to right from 9pm to 12. There is a green light at 12 o clock. You have to let go of the shutter button when the dialer hit 12 o clock. Simply just slightly tapping the camera shutter button cause the screen to get a lil out of focus but it produces a clear shot also.....try it out.
for better color reproduction in day light use -1 in the iso/ white balance /exposure setting
In low light use these settings. Turn on flash....change the iso/white balance to -2. pics should use way less light and get better pics

in day light hold down the camera shutter button. The dialer should start at 9 oclock. as you hold down on the shutter button the dialer moves to 12 olock when it reaches 12 oclock the dialer turn green. release the camera shutter button at 12 oclock....
The big circle is the dialer
I noticed that i get a better color reproduction with -1 in the camera ios/white balance setting....
In low light use these settings. Turn on flash....change the iso/white balance to -2. pics should use way less light and get better pics
Dialer is the Focus Circle !
kinda confusing when you refer dialer as focus circle. By holding the shutter button you're forcing focus to stay locked on.. Just like on any regular camera(PNS,DSLR) Phone Shooters come with continuous auto-focusing which is kinda annoying... always preferred single focus over continuous but then again single focus would be terrible with video..
Nice find :good::good::good::good:
I always do this when taking pics. Even on the s3 I would hold the shutter button til focus locked in instead of just tapping it then focus isn't 100%

so you're saying that exposure compensation menu also controls ISO? like 2 in 1? because ISO it's the other thing which weirdly cannot be adjusted manually as well as metering.
I think Galaxy S line (2-3 and 4) have those for manual adjustment. I can live without ISO adjustment no problem.. anything above 400 looks terrible anyway. But Google Or LG had to put Metering mode for a proper exposure...At least N4 got HDR mode as workaround

Photo sphere (360 thing you mentioned from nexus 4) is nexus ONLY. If you want that, buy a nexus. Theres probably an app or would be one day that replicates it.
Coming from a galaxy s 2 I'd say the panorama mode on the XZ absolutely dominates the S2. Can't comment on the successors to the s2 though.

Its a software smartie, with making a few adjustments, you should be able to run it on not only z, but any phone with android and gravity sensors.
And i had s 2 lte which is a lot different than s2. Its a 1.5 dual core. Z kicks its ass in every aspect, but panaramic mode sucks.
Just the fact that u cant stop when u want is annoying enough, let alone the speed problem...

I see, so it seems that it has been ported around indeed. For a long time every cm dev and his dog have been forever repeating themselves that it is nexus only site to sources or proprietary. I guess something has changed since then, my bad.
I really can't understand what is happening with you and your device to be having such a bad experience with the camera though. My one is far simpler smoother and faster than any phone I've seen using it (Motorola milestone 2, desire HD, s2, EVO 3d and most recently iPhone 5)
My camera did go all crappy in the first week and I had to clear the app data to get it working properly again, maybe it's worth a shot?

Please note this is not my work and I am just bringing it to the Nexus 6P communities attention if other users would like to try. All work and credit is thanks to @S0bes. If you use please thanks him in his thread.

Your welcome
Awesome!
Can someone share their experience when it comes to the performance of this app vs the stock one?
I really love the new camera but the software/app does seem quite slow especially if you take several HDR photos in a row.
I'd like to know if the Moto X app is any more competent.
Seems faster, if you don't use hdr in Google camera.
But, pictures aren't as good, and are half the size of Google camera.
Stick with Google for best results.
Awesome!!!!

I went straight to the camera version that you mentioned and it's working great. Agree with others about the Gallery being very nice!
I had an X Pure for a week and what I miss most is the exposure compensation slider thing. I find the 6P blows out highlights very easily. So if I focus on a dark area to compensate it lightens everything up but in doing so goes overboard and the bright areas are over brightened. It's basically spot metering but doing it to an extreme in my opinion. If the Motorola camera app worked I would be able to dial it down a bit to my liking but it's not available on the version of the camera that works.
